Synopsis#
Quirk Apprehension Test Arc#
Fumikage Tokoyami passes the U.A. Entrance Exam after scoring forty-seven villain points and ten rescue points. His efforts were enough to place him ninth overall in the exam. He attends the first day of school in Class 1-A. Their homeroom teacher, Shota Aizawa, immediately brings the class to the training field for a Quirk Apprehension Test and claims that whoever comes in last will be expelled.[1]
Following the fitness test, Shota reveals the placements and Fumikage managed to score fifth place in the class. Shota then reveals that he was lying about expelling the last place student to make sure the students did their best.[2]
Battle Trial Arc#
The next day, Fumikage and Class 1-A enter their first Basic Hero Training class with All Might. They meet him at training ground beta after changing into their hero costumes. He splits them up into teams of two and has them simulate a hero versus villain situation. Fumikage ends up paired with Tsuyu Asui on Team H.[3]
Class 1-A returns to class after combat training and Fumikage decides to sit on a desk. He overhears everyone greet Izuku as he returns, and says they're noisy. Then Tenya runs over to Fumikage and yells at him to get off the desk. Fumikage silently refuses and simply replies that Tenya is also noisy.[4]
U.S.J. Arc#
During the next day of class, Shota announces to the class that they will partake in rescue training at an outside facility. Class 1-A takes a bus to the Unforeseen Simulation Joint, where they meet the Space Hero: Thirteen. Thirteen explains she developed the U.S.J. with the focus on training future heroes on using their Quirks to help others. Suddenly during Thirteen's speech, real villains invade the facility through a warp gate.[5]
Shota fends off the villains on his own and leaves Thirteen to evacuate with the class. They prepare to escape, but they are cut off by the villain Kurogiri. Katsuki and Eijiro attack him, but end up dealing no damage. Kurogiri responds by warping the class to the various areas around the facility. Fumikage is transported to the Squall Zone along with Koji Koda where they are surrounded by villains.[6]
Koji uses himself as a distraction to lure villains out where Fumikage can defeat them with his Quirk. He mentions that they're dwindling the criminals numbers, albeit very slowly.[7] They are both eventually rescued by Present Mic after Tenya gets reinforcements from the school. Outside the facility, Fumikage and Koji talk with Denki and Eijiro. Fumikage isn't surprised to learn that everyone else faced low-level thugs as well. Afterward, Detective Tsukauchi takes Class 1-A back to U.A. High.[8]
U.A. Sports Festival Arc#
Two days after the attack on the U.S.J., Fumikage and his classmates return to school discuss the attack. Fumikage mentions that All Might's strength is a thing of wonder. After Shota Aizawa returns to class, the class gets lectured about the importance of the upcoming U.A. Sports Festival. After class, Fumikage admits he's excited about the festival because the student's only get a few chances at it. Fumikage is also amongst those who are freaked out when Ochaco Uraraka gets overly excited and demands the class chant that they will do their best in the festival.[9]
At the end of the day, Class 1-A's exit gets blocked by a crowd of students from other classes. Katsuki confronts and insults the crowd, making enemies out of everyone else before leaving. Eijiro tries to get Katsuki to defend the class, but he replies that the crowd of students are irrelevant and it's only important that he defeats them. Fumikage agrees with Katsuki's statement.
For the next two weeks before the festival, Fumikage trains at the Replica City District. He uses stadium lights to improve Dark Shadow's endurance. When the day of the U.A. Sports Festival arrives, Fumikage changes into his P.E. clothes and prepares with his class in their designated waiting room. Like the rest of his peers, Fumikage takes notice when Shoto Todoroki challenges Izuku Midoriya.[10]
Chief referee of the Sports Festival: Midnight announces the preliminaries will be an Obstacle Race four kilometers around the stadium, which immediately begins after the rules are explained. Fumikage eventually reaches the first obstacle: a blockade of Villain-bots from the entrance exam, including several giant Zero-Point Villains.[11]
Katsuki is one of the first to clear the obstacle by rocketing over the giant robots using his Quirk. Fumikage and Hanta Sero follow close behind using Quirks of their own.[12] Fumikage crosses the finish line in seventh place, qualifying him to participate in the Cavalry Battle.[13]
Izuku Midoriya convinces Fumikage to join his team for the Cavalry Battle. The former explains that Fumikage's role will only be to defend the team with his Quirk. Impressed with Izuku's strategy, Fumikage reveals his Quirks weakness and comments that Izuku has chosen the perfect role for him since his Dark Shadow's offensive ability is lessened in the sunlight.
The second round of the festival begins, and along with Ochaco Uraraka and Mei Hatsume, it's up to Fumikage to help Izuku protect their ten million points.[14]
As soon as the round begins, Team Tetsutetsu attacks and traps Team Midoriya using Juzo Honenuki's Quirk. Thanks to gadgets Mei provided the team with, Fumikage and company are able to escape by flying through the air. Kyoka Jiro tries to attack their blind spot, but Dark Shadow repels it. Izuku comments on Fumikage's powerful Quirk and how perfectly it suits the team just before they land safely using Ochaco's power.
They are given few seconds of safety, as Team Mineta immobilizes them momentarily using one of Minoru's spheres. Then Team Tetsutetsu joins the fray and charges for Fumikage's party.
Outnumbered, Fumikage reminds Izuku that it is unwise to get trapped between two teams. Izuku breaks one of the hover soles used to maneuver through the air in order to escape and Katsuki confronts them in mid-air. He nearly blasts Izuku, but Fumikage is able to block the explosion using Dark Shadow. They are forced to land, and are almost instantly confronted by Team Todoroki.[15]
Fumikage believed this confrontation wouldn't happen until later in the contest and comments that Shoto must have it out for Izuku. Various teams close in on them, but Team Todoroki's Denki Kaminari shocks them all using his Indiscriminate Shock technique. Fumikage is able to defend the team from the electricity using Dark Shadow, but Team Todoroki continues to pursue them. Dark Shadow tries to strike Shoto, but Momo Yaoyorozu creates a strong enough shield to block it's attack. Izuku comments that Momo's Quirk is too powerful, but Fumikage replies that Denki is the one to fear and if there were any more sunlight Dark Shadow could have been destroyed by his attack.
Izuku invokes a strategy that keeps Team Todoroki at bay for the latter half of the games, but their points are ultimately stolen after Tenya uses his Recipro Burst technique. Fumikage stares at Team Todoroki, alarmed by Tenya's lightning speed, and suggests to Izuku that their team try for other points. Izuku refuses and with encouragement from Ochaco, they decide to charge at Team Todoroki to reclaim their points. Izuku is able to grab one of their headbands, but it turns out not to be the one worth ten million points.[16]
Without enough points to move onto the next round, Team Midoriya makes one final attempt. Fumikage sends Dark Shadow to attack, but Denki repels him with electricity. Katsuki arrives on the scene, but time runs out just as everyone is about to clash.
Izuku tries to apologize for the loss, but Fumikage interjects. He reveals that he tried for the ten million points, but was unable to grab it. Instead, thanks to Izuku's attack, Dark Shadow was able to steal the headband around Shoto's head. The headband is worth is enough to place Team Midoriya in fourth, allowing them to advance to the finals.[17]
Midnight announces the finals will be a One on One Fighting Tournament and everyone draws lots to see who they will face in the first bracket. Fumikage matches up with Momo, and he promises her to give it his all. Before the tournament begins, participants are given the option to participate in recreational games. Fumikage refuses and uses the opportunity to recharge Dark Shadow while resting high on a tree branch.[18]
Fumikage faces Momo in the sixth contest in the first bracket of the tournament. As soon as their duel begins, Fumikage summons Dark Shadow and focuses his attacks on Momo's conjured shield until he pushes her out of bounds, ending the match quickly.[19] After his match, Fumikage sits next to Ochaco and Tenya before the match between Izuku and Shoto begins. After Ochaco's defeat at the hands of Katsuki, Fumikage told her not to lament over her loss, and take inspiration from Izuku's match.[20]
Once the second round begins, Fumikage faces Mina for his next match. Fumikage easily defeats Mina by pushing her out of bounds and moves on to the semi-finals.[21]
Fumikage's third opponent is Katsuki, whose explosions put him at a disadvantage. He is forced completely on the defensive because of the light generated from Katsuki's Quirk, but manages to keep him at bay for a while. He mulls over Katsuki's brutality and admits he has underestimated his opponent. After Katsuki blasts dark shadow in mid air, Fumikage orders dark shadow to grab him.
However, Katsuki evades and gets behind Fumikage before activating his stun grenade technique. This move engulfs the arena in light and allows Katsuki to capitalize and pin Fumikage down by his face. Fumikage asks if Katsuki knew his weakness all along, to which Katsuki replies he figured out by attacking relentlessly. Katsuki admits it was an unfair matchup, but declares that Fumikage is finished, and so Fumikage surrenders.[22]
Once Katsuki defeats Shoto in the finals, the Sports Festival concludes and Fumikage is awarded third place along with Tenya. Fumikage takes the podium, sharing it with a very angry Katsuki, who had to be restrained after the final match. Fumikage comments that he's acting like a feral animal ready to bite everyone's head off.
All Might arrives to hand out the awards, and gives Fumikage the bronze medal first. He advises Fumikage to train harder so that he can face different opponents without relying so heavily on his Quirk. Fumikage thanks the number one hero and promises to do so. In the aftermath of the festival, Fumikage and the rest of Class 1-A are granted the next two days off from school to recover.[23]
Vs. Hero Killer Arc#
Once class resumes at U.A., Fumikage joins his class in learning about Hero Informatics. Shota reveals the Pro-Hero draft results, with Fumikage receiving 360 offers from pros. Midnight joins the class to help the students choose their hero names. Fumikage chooses the moniker Jet-Black Hero: "Tsukuyomi".[24] The students are given personalized lists of hero agencies they are to choose from. When the internship week arrives, Fumikage is at the train station with his class.[25]
Fumikage decides to go to intern under Hawks, one of the top ten heroes of Japan. However, his experience was not what he expected. He can barely keep up with Hawks, who essentially resolves everything by himself. One of Hawks' sidekicks tells Fumikage that their role is essentially to perform the cleanup work after a job. Being relegated to this role caused Fumikage to start asking why Hawks chose him.
At Hawks' office, Fumikage asks him why he invited him. Hawks initially jokes that it is because they are both birds, but then explains that it was only 20% for that reason, and 50% because he wanted to talk to someone from Class 1-A about the League of Villains. Hawks tells Fumikage that he figured he would pick someone from 1-A who could be able to keep up with him, so he picked Fumikage from the top three. Fumikage says that while he filled Hawks in on the U.S.J. Incident, frustration boiled up inside him, and he left the workplace training without having learned anything.[26]
Once the week concludes, Fumikage returns to U.A.[27] Fumikage takes part in the rescue training race during Basic Hero Training. Afterwards in the boys locker room, he tells Eijiro he can compensate for his lack of speed by improving other skills.[28]
Final Exams Arc#
One week before final exams, Shota reminds Class 1-A to study for their written and practical components before ending class. Denki and Mina admit they haven't studied at all because of the events that have taken place throughout the term. Fumikage agrees and admits he hasn't studied much either, resulting in his fairly low midterm grade (14/20). When Katsuki storms out of class, later on, Fumikage notes that animosity and impatience are getting to him.
A week passes and Class 1-A finishes the written section of the finals. They change into their hero costumes and join their teaches at the practical exam area. There, Principal Nezu announces the practical portion will involve pairs of students facing off against one teacher. Fumikage is paired with Tsuyu against Ectoplasm.[29] Before the first match begins, Fumikage and Tsuyu agree to talk over strategies. They are both surprised to hear when Rikido and Eijiro are defeated.[30]
Their test follows immediately afterward at the second arena. They begin at the middle of the labyrinth and decide their best course of action would be to head towards the escape gate even though they know Ectoplasm will be waiting there. The match begins and Ectoplasm spawns several clones to surround the duo and warns them the teachers will do their best to defeat the students.[31] Fumikage immediately uses Dark Shadow to toss Tsuyu to the level above. Once she lands, Tsuyu does the same for him using her tongue.[32]
Meanwhile, in the monitoring room, Izuku and Ochaco comment on their excellent synergy and question how Ectoplasm is a poor matchup for the examinees. Recovery Girl replies that Ectoplasm's ability to spawn clones unexpectedly can exploit Fumikage's weakness at close range. While Fumikage and Tsuyu make their escape, Ectoplasm's clones cut them off.
Fumikage attacks with Dark Shadow and defeats a few clones, but is nearly overwhelmed. Thankfully he has Tsuyu to support him and they escape to higher floors. They work together to defeat about twenty-eight clones and reach the final section of the building where they can see the escape gate and Ectoplasm's real body. Ectoplasm commends them for making it past his clones and spawns a giant one to stop them using his Giant Bite Detention technique.
Fumikage yells for Tsuyu to avoid it, but they are both trapped outside the clones body. Ectoplasm tells them only he can release his clones and asks what they plan to do now. Fumikage praises Ectoplasm's all-powerful Quirk and Dark Shadow appears and claims that he is the same. Fumikage orders him to escape through the gate, but Dark Shadow is no match for Ectoplasm in a hand to hand fight.
While Dark Shadow fights with Ectoplasm to escape, Tsuyu reveals she swallowed the handcuffs given to them prior to the practical. She gives it to Dark Shadow without Ectoplasm noticing and they clash one final time. Although Dark Shadow is defeated, Ectoplasm's leg is cuffed in the exchange. The duo pass the exam[33] and Ectoplasm congratulates them on a wonderfully clever plan. Fumikage thanks him and Dark Shadow decides to claim all the credit.[34]
Following the conclusion of the exams, Class 1-A returns to their homeroom class as scheduled. Shota informs the class that they have all passed the written exam and everyone will attend training camp over the summer. Fumikage's peers decide its a good idea to go shopping at the Kiyashi Ward Shopping Mall to buy necessities for the camp. When they first arrive, Izuku begins muttering and Fumikage advises him to stop because he's scaring the children.[35]
My Hero Academia: Two Heroes#
At some point Fumikage arrives on I-Island along with Mezo. On the night of the I-Island preview, Fumikage and Mezo our hanging out in the streets in the Business Area. Unbeknownst to them, the villain Wolfram and his group storm the main building, taking over the island's security system. Because of this, a curfew announcement is made, so both students rush back to their hotel room.
Fortunately, several of his classmates were on the scene and managed to defeat the villains, putting an end to I-Island Incident. Fumikage hangs out with the rest of his class after the I-Island Expo opens up.[36]
Forest Training Camp Arc#
A day prior to summer break, Izuku invites Fumikage and all the boys of Class 1-A to the pool for endurance training. They hold races between the students and Fumikage loses of the race to Katsuki. They are all kicked out of the area when Shota arrives.[37]
Summer break begins and Class 1-A rides a bus to a forest reserve belonging to the hero team: The Wild, Wild Pussycats. Pixie-Bob and Mandalay introduce themselves and challenge the students to reach base camp past the forest in three hours. When most of Fumikage's peers refuse, he and his classmates are forcibly thrown into Beast's Forest by Pixie-Bob's Quirk. The students are attacked by dirt monsters created by Pixie-Bob.[38] Fumikage and Mashirao knock one of the beasts over, giving Yuga an opening to destroy it.[39]
Class 1-A doesn't arrive at base camp for several more hours. Well over their time limit, Class 1-A arrives at the base camp exhausted and battered. Mandalay reveals the time limit was the expectancy for actual heroes, not the students. The Pussycats serve the student's dinner and the students bathe in the hot springs afterward.[40]
Quirk training begins the next morning. Fumikage sits in a cave trying to control Dark Shadow while is engrossed in darkness. Later that day, the students are tasked with cooking curry for themselves. Fumikage and Hanta ask Katsuki to light their wood oven, but he ends up destroying with an explosion on accident.[41]
During training the next day, Fumikage exits his cave and overhears Izuku talking to Shota about All Might. He comments "revelry in the dark" and then says it again that night when he's paired up with Mezo for the test of courage. Ochaco is slightly intimidated because of his strange choice in phrasing. Class 1-A students traverse the forest while Class 1-B students try and scare them in the dark. Their fun event is interrupted by the arrival of the League of Villains' Vanguard Action Squad.[42]
Fumikage and Mezo stay on alert after receiving a message from Mandalay saying that villains are attacking. The duo is suddenly ambushed by Moonfish, who slices off one of Mezo's Dupli-Arms with his Blade-Tooth Quirk. Seeing Mezo in pain causes Fumikage to become filled with anger and grief. These powerful emotions strengthen Dark Shadow in the darkness and Fumikage's Quirk explodes into a berserk raging beast.
Dark Shadow goes berserk and attacks any noise indiscriminately. Izuku eventually happens upon Dark Shadow and the beast attacks him. Mezo saves Izuku and explains the situation. Trapped inside Dark Shadow's darkness, Fumikage pleads with his friends to go save the other students instead of him. Dark Shadow attacks them but they're able to dodge. Mezo says he can give Izuku an opening if he wants to save Katsuki from the villains. Izuku decides to save both Fumikage and Katsuki by leading Dark Shadow toward their fight. Mezo uses Dupli-Arms to create sounds and bait Dark Shadow through the forest while running for dear life. Fortunately, they lead Dark Shadow right to Katsuki and Shoto's fight with Moonfish. [43]
Dark Shadow instantly crushes Moonfish under its giant claw. Mezo pleads with Katsuki and Shoto to create light with their Quirks. Shoto prepares to use his fire but Katsuki tells him to wait. Moonfish tries to attack Dark Shadow so it doesn't steal his prey. Dark Shadow completely annihilates Moonfish in an instant by snapping his teeth and throwing him through dozens of trees to defeat him. Before Dark Shadow continues to rampage, Katsuki and Shoto use their Quirks to tame it with light.
Fumikage thanks his friends for saving him and then apologizes to everyone for allowing Dark Shadow to take control. Mezo says they can deal with that later, because that's what Fumikage would say if the roles were reversed. Izuku tells Fumikage the villains are after Katsuki and the group decides to form the Bakugo Escort Squad to protect their classmate. The team encounters Ochaco and Tsuyu on their way to base camp and the girls notice that Katsuki is missing. This causes everyone to realize that Mr. Compress has taken Katsuki and Fumikage. [44]
Izuku, Mezo, and Shoto track down Mr. Compress to the Vanguard Action Squad's meeting point.[45] They battle for possession of Katsuki and Fumikage. Mezo manages to get Fumikage back and Mr. Compress frees Fumikage from his marble prison. However, Dabi manages to capture Katsuki and the villains drag him through a Warp-Gate to complete their mission.[46]
Fifteen minutes after the Vanguard Action Squad's attack, the training camp ends and Fumikage returns home. Two days later, Fumikage along with Class 1-A, visit Izuku who is in a hospital near the training camp. Fumikage apologizes to Izuku for causing him trouble during the Vanguard Action Squad's attack, although Izuku rebuffs Fumikage's claim and admits that it is his fault. Fumikage listens to Eijiro reveal that Momo met with All Might and the Police to tell them that she planted a transmitter on one of the villains. Eijiro believes the students should rescue Katsuki but Tenya argues against it.[47]
Hideout Raid Arc#
The majority of Class 1-A is against the idea of attempting to save Katsuki themselves and agree with Tenya. Yuga suggests that they leave Katsuki's rescue to the Pro Heroes since they have been prevented from partaking in combat. Fumikage agrees with Yuga and does not say anything else regarding the matter since he was part of the reason the students were defeated. The doctor arrives and asks the class to leave the room so that he can talk to Izuku privately. Fumikage leaves the room.[48]
Fumikage watches the broadcast of the battle between All Might and All For One on his computer. He is one of many to cheer for All Might's victory.[49]
Provisional Hero License Exam Arc#
Following the intense villain attacks toward U.A. students, the rescue of Katsuki and the retirement of All Might, Nezu orders the construction of a series of buildings to transform U.A. into a boarding school in order to protect the students. Shota meets with his students outside of their new residence. He states they must start preparing to get provisional hero licenses like they had planned to during the training camp.
Before allowing Class 1-A students to go in, Shota scolds them all for disobeying the rules, allowing five students to rescue Katsuki and did nothing to stop them. He further says he would have expelled everyone but Katsuki, Toru and Kyoka (due to them being captured and hospitalized, respectively) from the school, if it weren't for All Might's sudden retirement and asked them to stick to the rules from now on.
Afterwards, the class explores their new dorm. Later that night, after everyone moved in and decorated their respective bedrooms, the girls suggest a room showcasing competition. He refuses to participate in the room contest, but after the girls force him to, it is shown that his room is incredibly dark and yells at the others to leave.[50]
The following day, Fumikage, along with the rest of 1-A, are told by Shota that their next goal is to obtain their provisional licenses. To ensure success, they will develop their own ultimate moves, along with the guidance of Midnight, Ectoplasm, and Cementoss in Gym Gamma.[51] Four days after beginning their training, Fumikage develops his ultimate move called Abyssal Black Body by covering the top half of his body with Dark Shadow. This move helps Fumikage to compensate for his weakness at close range and provide physical defense. Midnight tells him the name may be too difficult to say and he promises to work on it.[52]
Fumikage continues to train with the rest of his classmates following up to the day of the Provisional Hero License Exam. Outside of the National Dagobah Arena, 1-A meets with students from Shiketsu High School and Ketsubutsu Academy High School. The exam participants all gather to hear the rules of the exam from Yokumiru Mera from the Hero Public Safety Commission.
The students find out they will be tested on speed, with only the first 100 out of 1540 passing the first test being able to move on to the next. Each student has six red balls, and three targets to attach to their body where they are visible to others. The students must hit other students' targets - once a student has all of their targets hit, they are out, and whoever attached the third ball claims the defeat. Participants need to eliminate two students to move on to the next phase of the exam.
The room in which the students are in unfolds to reveal the arena, in which there are varying environments to battle in. Fumikage moves with the rest of 1-A, minus Katsuki and Shoto, as Izuku realizes that all of the other schools know of Class 1-A's abilities thanks to the Sports Festival.[53]
As Izuku predicts, the rest of the schools all attack U.A. at once, however, Class 1-A is able to defend themselves thanks to their ultimate moves. Despite students from Ketsubutsu trying to still hit 1-A, they are able to block all incoming attacks.[54] Using his ultimate move Black Abyss, which Izuku notices the smooth name change, Fumikage attempts to hit one of the students from Ketsubutsu, Tatami Nakagame, with his attack Piercing Twilight Claws, however, she is able to use her Quirk to evade his attack. Yo Shindo notices the improvement of 1-A since the Sports Festival and uses his Quirk he use his Ultimate Move Tremoring Earth to break up the ground beneath 1-A and split them up.[55]
Due to this attack, like the other students of the Class 1-A, Fumikage gets scattered, and have to defend himself from the attacks of the rest of the students while looks for his classmates. Thanks to Yuga, who shoots his navel laser upwards, all the remaining 1-A students make their way towards him and Tenya. They manage to defeat other students and all of 1-A successfully passes the first phase of the exams.[56]
The second phase of the exam begins and the students are expected to rescue H.U.C employees who will act as victims.[57] Fumikage performs the rescues until Gang Orca and his Sidekicks arrive, who act as villains in that test. Fumikage, Mina and Mashirao arrive where the fake villains are, and Mashirao informing Izuku that they were at the waterfront while Tsuyu and most of Class 1-A are in a nearby town continuing rescue operations.[58]
Fumikage use his Quirks to attack and knock down some goons until the end of the exam is announced, and the provisional hero license exam is officially closed. The results of the Provisional Hero License Exam are presented on the screen, and Fumikage is one of the students who passes the exam, receiving his provisional license.[59]
Shie Hassaikai Arc#
Next day to the Provisional Hero License Exam, Shota tells to Class 1-A the Hero Internships, hero activities done off campus, saying that it is a more formalized version of the Field Training they did with pro heroes before.
Three days later, Shota Aizawa introduces Class 1-A to the people who will teach them about Hero Internships; the third-year students who rank among the top of all U.A. students known as The Big 3: Mirio Togata, Tamaki Amajiki and Nejire Hado.[60]
The personalities of the three students leave Class 1-A confused, who get even more confused when Mirio Togata challenges them all to a fight. At Gym Gamma, Mirio tells Class 1-A to attack him whenever and wherever they want. Fumikage, like the rest of his classmates, attacks him, but thanks to his Quirk Permeation, Mirio easily defeats all students of Class 1-A.
As Class 1-A recovers, Mirio states that the reason he wanted to fight Class 1-A is to show the experience he gained from the Hero Internships; Mirio was able to transform his Quirk and reach the top. Class 1-A start seeing that Hero Internships are different from the Field Training they went through.[61]
Following Mirio's advice, Fumikage then recounts his Internship with Hawks, who had invited him again. Hawks notices the improvement in Fumikage's techniques, as do his sidekicks. During one evening after work, Hawks takes Fumikage on a flight.
At that moment, he tells him part of the reason why he chose him: Last time he said that 20% is because both are birds and 50% because he wanted to talk to someone from Class 1-A about the League of Villains. Now Hawks tells him that the remaining 30% of why he invited him was because he thought that Fumikage was wasting a lot of his potential. Hawks tells him that he should be able to move much more freely as a bird with wings, and that he need not be confined to the ground. With the help of Hawks, Fumikage devises a new move named, "Black Fallen Angel".[26]
U.A. School Festival Arc#
Later in the classroom, Shota Aizawa announces that U.A. High School will be having a school festival and tells Class 1-A to pick out a program to perform at the festival. The entire Class 1-A decides that it school festival program will be a live performance and dance with party space.[62] Class 1-A students are divided into three groups, Band team, staging team and dance team.
Kyoka is convinced by her classmates to do the music theme for the U.A. School Festival. After this, they decide who will be the members of the musical band; Katsuki Bakugo plays the drums, Momo Yaoyorozu plays the piano, and Kyoka herself will be playing the bass and be the vocalist, and requires guitarists. Denki Kaminari and Minoru try out; the former being able to perform well while the latter is unable to reach the guitar strings. Fumikage Tokoyami picks up the guitar left by Minoru and starts playing a heart rending sound, impressing his fellow classmates. Fumikage states that he needed to overcome his difficulty of the F chord first which is why he did not speak up and tells a crestfallen Minoru that he will be glad to take the position as guitarist.
With the band now formed and the rest of the classmates divided between the dance team and the stage team, the students of class 1-A dedicate themselves to practicing for the big performance.[63] One day, while playing the guitar together with Denki, Denki's fingers are aching from playing too much, Fumikage asks if they should stop, but he insists on continuing, cheerfully telling tells him that they must to give their best for Jiro, seeing as she loves music so much. This is when Fumikage realizes how an amazing guy Denki is, as he thinks of his friends from the bottom of his heart.[64]
Until the festival, the Band team constantly practices the music, and on the appointed day, the performance of class 1-A ends up being a huge success.[65] Once their performance is over, Tokoyami enjoys the festival with his classmates.[66]
Pro Hero Arc#
At Class 1-A's dormitory, Fumikage sneezes which Denki believes that he has been mentioned in a conversation and assumes that a fan mentioned him. Ochaco believes that Fumikage would have a lot of fans because he interned under the Number 3 Hero Hawks; Fumikage replies that it's too early for him to have any fans. Later, they receive a visit from the Pussycats, who came to celebrate their returns after a long hiatus.[67]
Days later, at the U.A. dorms, Fumikage and his classmates watch a television report of a Nomu attack in the city, watching Endeavor being overwhelmed by High-End. He even comments on how panic had been unleashed among civilians, worsening the situation.[68] After Endeavor defeats High End stands up victorious, Shoto collapses to his knees, relieved his father is still alive. Fumikage along with his classmates approaches him to console him.[69]
Joint Training Arc#
When Class 1-A and Class 1-B face off as part of a training exercising, Fumikage is placed in a team with Yuga Aoyama, and Toru Hagakure and lead by Momo Yaoyorozu, to compete against Class 1-B team formed by Kinoko Komori, Shihai Kuroiro, Manga Fukidashi and lead Itsuka Kendo, in the second round of match-ups.[70]
The second team from each class is prompted to take the field immediately following round one. Shihai confronts Fumikage and claims their both alike. Fumikage recalls Shihai's Black Quirk ability. Shihai claims that he and Fumikage are fated to clash. They both walk away sharing statements from their fondness to darkness.
Upon the beginning of the second match, he uses Dark Shadow to scout out their opponents with Yuga commenting on the increase in range that Fumikage can send out Dark Shadow after his internship. However, Dark Shadow gets hijacked thanks to Shihai's Quirk and attacks Fumikage. Shihai exits Dark Shadow and evades two nets created by Momo. He merges with the shadows between the pipes and boldly states he will defeat Fumikage. Fumikage accepts the challenge and states he will face Shihai head-on, using a new technique he learned from his internships with Hawks: Black Fallen Angel.[71]
Shihai moves through the shadows and his enemies are surprised he's bold enough to attack again. Class 1-A believes Shihai will target Fumikage because of his dialogue. Instead, Shihai sneakily takes Yuga away after diverting his rivals attention. Shihai believes no one on the other team is fast enough to pursue him through the narrow stage. However, Fumikage flies to Shihai and easily catches up to him with Black Fallen Angel.
Dark Shadow carries Fumikage and acts as his wings while his cape is wrapped around them both. Fumikage soars past Shihai and rescues Yuga from him. Momo tells Yuga to use his Navel Buffet☆Laser while Fumikage flies them around. This warps the shape of the shadows and takes away all Shihai's hiding spots.
Toru goes to capture Shihai and Momo claims that even the most unique circumstances are within her expectations. Shihai notices Itsuka's plan stays one step ahead. Kinoko uses her Quirk to cover everything in Mushrooms,[26] Meanwhile, Manga quickly uses his Quirk to spawns giant text that separates Momo from her team.[72]
Shihai moves through the shadows of the mushrooms and takes Yuga again. Fumikage tries to pursue but Manga knocks him down with text bullets. He recovers and is shocked to find Invisible Girl covered in mushrooms. Fumikage mulls over the desperate situation. Class 1-B has cut off Momo from the group, concealed themselves, and put their team in the perfect position to choke the life from Class 1-A's squad.
Fumikage knows they must find Shihai, Manga, and Kinoko if his team has any chance at winning. He hears a cannon shot and notices Yaoyorozu's Lucky Bag flying over the wall created by Manga. He deduces that Momo has thrown them objects that will help them counteract the Quirks of Class 1-B. Fumikage grabs Toru and flies up to the bag. Inside he finds ethanol to get rid of the mushrooms and infrared goggles.
On the ground, Shihai returns to tell Kinoko that he has successfully put Yuga in jail. Kinoko compliments him on his success, and suggests that they take the initiative to attack the 1-A team together, since that they have kept their locations hidden thus far. Shihai questions Kinoko's conclusion, as he notices Fumikage flying full speed at them. With the help of some infrared goggles that were in Momo's bag, Fumikage locates Kinoko and Shihai and attacks them with Abyssal Black Body Sabbath. Before they can recover, Fumikage traps Shihai in his cape and Dark Shadow wraps up Kinoko.
Fumikage prepares to take them to jail but suddenly, he begins to cough due to a fungus that Kinoko has caused to grow within his windpipe. In the viewing area, Neito comments that Fumikage should have knocked Kinoko unconscious, because while she is not a strong fighter, her Quirk is still to be feared. Despite their efforts, both Toru and Momo end up being captured. With all of the members of Class 1-A now subdued, they are taken to their prison, granting Class 1-B their first victory in the Joint Training Battle.[73]
With the match over, Kinoko tries to comfort Fumikage by offering him a throat lozenge to help the pain caused by her mushrooms growing in his throat but he refuses her pity. When the third match is about to start, in which Shoto Todoroki participates, Fumikage stops Shoto to informs him that they both carry the weight of representing the No. 1 and No. 2 heroes, who they have both trained under. Fumikage believes he failed and puts his trust in Shoto to represent their masters well after they fought valiantly in the recent battle.[74]
After this, Fumikage remains watching the other games and celebrates with his classmates their victory of the Joint Training Battle.[75] Despite their victory over Class 1-B, there are no hard feelings, and both classes hanging out together after the exercise, happily socializing in the common area.
Kinoko turns out to be a fan of Hawks and asks Fumikage for some pictures of him.[76]
My Hero Academia: Heroes: Rising#
During fall, the Hero Public Safety Commission devises the Hero Work Recommendation Project, to help to train the new generation of Heroes due All Might retirement. Weeks go by, and shortly after winter begins, after the Hero Interview Training, Class 1-A is sent to Nabu Island, a remote place in southern Japan. The Pro Heroes who protected the island are about to retire, so the students will take care of the place, performing duties as real heroes acting like their own "Hero Office", until the arrival of new Pro Heroes.
Because Nabu Island is quite isolated from the rest of the country, and therefore far from any villain activity, there has been no notable incident since the last thirty years. For this reason, their work on the island basically involve mostly minor deeds. Fumikage works alongside several of his classmates on the beach as lifesavers. He and Hanta prohibit tourists from entering the rocky area as it is too dangerous. He also uses his Black Fallen Angel to patrol from the skies and inform his classmates of any incident.
The next day, Fumikage returns to his duties on the beach, along with Mashirao, Tsuyu, and Mezo. But that day Nine and his gang attack the island, and the four students confront his henchman Chimera. While Tsuyu is tasked with evacuating all the beach goers, Mashirao, Mezo, and Fumikage fight Chimera. he saves Mashirao from the rocks Chimera throws at him, and attempts to attack with Dark Shadow, but the villain punches the living shadow back, much to the Fumikage shock.
Chimera proves being to much for the students, and since everyone's cellphones aren't working, Mashirao tells Fumikage to head back to headquarters to request for backup while he tries to face the villain the best he can. Although reluctant, Fumikage obeys. He quickly arrives at the Hero's Office, where they meet their classmates, confused that the phone service is dead, and that one of the island's residents had notified them of the villain's attacks at the shopping district.
Fumikage reports to them that an attack is also taking place on the beach, and that they need help. Tenya quickly organize the class to face this crisis. He splits the Class into groups in order to deal with the separate threats: Fumikage, alongside Tenya, Shoto, Sato and Hanta will fight the villain at the beach as Ochaco and Koda assist with the evacuation of the beach goers.
Fumikage returns to the beach with reinforcements just as Chimera had already defeated Mashirao, and is about to do the same with Mezo. Once there, they fight Chimera, but despite outnumbering him, the villain is superior to the students. Chimera continues to fight the students for several minutes until he sees a flare in the sky. This was a signal from his allies that he must retreat. Chimera obeys the order and withdraw, leaving the students too tired to chase him.
At night, the Class 1-A members regroup at a factory where the rest of the island citizens are currently staying at due to the villain attack. Later, all the students have a meeting where they discover that the objective of the villain leader, Nine, is to steal the Cell Activation Quirk from a boy called Katsuma. With this information, they devise a plan to approach them in front and keep civilians safe. The plan is to lure the villains to the furthest corner of the island where ancient castle ruins are. The heroes will engage the villains using the terrain to their advantage and spit the villains apart, so each member has to face several students alone.
The next morning, Nine and his gang arrive at the entrance to the island. When the students see the villains approaching, they put their plan into action. Yuga Aoyama and Momo Yaoyorozu start attacking them from afar with their respective Quirks at full power. While Nine blocks the attack with his Air Wall Quirk, Slice and Chimera breaks away from the blast, unaware that they are falling right into Class 1-A trap. The ground under Slice's feet collapses and she falls into an underground cave where Fumikage Tokoyami and Mina Ashido prepare to face her.
Fumikage engages close combat with Slice in his Black Abyss, with Mina providing support using her Acid Quirk. Despite using the darkness to his advantage, Fumikage proves to be unmatched for Slice and her swift combat agility. Fumikage makes an opening for Mina to destroy much of Slice's hair using her acid. Despite losing much of her hair, the villain still has enough to fight back, and fire multiple barrages of sharp needles at Fumikage and Mina, knocking back the former and seriously injuring the latter.
Seeing his wounded classmate enrage Fumikage, and his Dark Shadow Quirk intensifies to become massively monstrous and viciously attacks Slice. The villain attempts to shoot her hair needles at the ceiling to allow more light to enter, but she is defeated by Fumikage after Dark Shadow grabbed her. However, the cavern collapsed on top of them. The sunlight from the sky nullifies Dark Shadow as Fumikage uses his body to shield the wounded Mina while the cavern buries all of them under piles of boulders.
While all three are buried, Izuku and Katsuki manage to defeat Nine, saving the island and its inhabitants in the process. Soon, a military force and a large number of heroes arrive on Nabu Island, rescuing the civilians and medically treating Class 1-A. Hawks himself rescues Fumikage and Mina from the pile of rocks. The villains are arrested, and Class 1-A continues to stay on Nabu Island to help repair the damage done by Nine and his villains until the Public Safety Commission suspends the program and orders them to be sent home.
With the island being repaired by the military and the heroes, Class 1-A boards a ferry to return to the U.A. High School.[77]
Endeavor Agency Arc#
Class 1-A participates in a Hero Interview Training taught by Mt. Lady. The heroine congratulates Fumikage for the good vibes he generates with his phrases about darkness.[78] Days later, the Hero Work Recommendation Project takes place, and Class 1-A students stay on Nabu Island before returning.[77]
On the night of Christmas Eve, the whole class celebrates Christmas along with Shota and Eri at Heights Alliance. Then, the class holds a surprise gift exchange, with Fumikage bringing a massive sword that ends up going to Eri, despite the sword being bigger than her, much to Mashirao's shock.[79]
Due the increase of the villain activity, The Madam President demand all the students heroes for all academies to undergo practical field training. Fumikage returns to Hawks' Hero Agency, although Hawks himself cannot take care of him since he is working as a spy for the Commission inside the Paranormal Liberation Front. Therefore, Fumikage undertakes the Work-Studies with the sidekicks of the No. 2 Hero.[80]
My Hero Academia: World Heroes' Mission#
Flect Turn, the leader of the Anti-Quirk cult Humarise, has detonated a Trigger Bomb in a major city, killing thousands and destroying the entire infrastructure. In response to the act of terrorism, the World Heroes Association mobilizes the largest anti-terror joint task force to storm all the branches that the cult has spread around the world.
Fumikage travels with his master Hawks to the United States, to join the American Task Force, which has the mission of assaulting the base that Humarise has in New York City. Despite the defense of the cultists stationed there, the heroes succeed in raiding the place, and many of them are arrested. However, the main targets, which are the Trigger Bombs, are nowhere to be found. Since the same goes with the assaults of other Task Forces in other countries, the director of the WHA orders everyone to be on standby.
Days later, Flect Turn broadcasts worldwide that in less than two hours his organization will set off multiple Trigger Bombs in the twenty-five cities around the world where its branches used to be. The inhabitants of the threatened cities soon panic, causing numerous accidents. Fumikage follows his mentor Hawks, who orders him to leave the evacuation to the American team while they focus their efforts on locating the bombs as they fly above the city.
During the search they are informed that Izuku, Katsuki, and Shoto have the key to deactivate all the bombs, and they go to the main headquarters of Humarise to do it.
The heroes find the Trigger Bomb, having to fight Humarise's agents stationed there to get hold of it. Hawks succeeds and uses the feathers of his Fierce Wing Quirk to transport the device as far away from the city as possible. Fumikage prevents the flying members of Humarise from reaching the bomb, however he informs Hawks that he has been notified that another bomb has been found, much to the latter's surprise.
The heroes keep fighting until the countdown ends, but none of the bombs go off. With relief, Fumikage comes to the conclusion that Izuku's group has succeeded in their mission to defuse the Trigger Bombs, saving the lives of millions of people. With the crisis averted, Fumikage leaves the country and returns to U.A.[81]
Paranormal Liberation War Arc#
The Winter break ends and the students return to U.A. to show their progress.[82] Despite Hawks' absence, Fumikage shows off his general improvements in a training exercise against the Villain Bots, easily dispatching a large number of them with Black Abyss.[83]
The months go by until it's late March. Thanks to Hawks, the Hero Public Safety Commission has found out the plans of the Paranormal Liberation Front and its allies. With this information the Commission organized a large force of Pro Heroes, divided in several teams to take down the villain organization.
One of the teams has the mission of storming the main headquarters of the Paranormal Liberation Front and arrest all its members. Fumikage and Denki are the only Class 1-A students who are in the front line, with the rest of their classmates at their rear to catch any villain who slips past the front line, or participating in the evacuation of a city near another Liberation Front's hideout.[84][85]
Denki is initially very afraid of his situation, but Fumikage tries to cheer him up by telling him that, when they were practicing together with the guitar for the School Festival, he found him amazing. Denki misinterprets as trivializing their current situation. Fumikage tries to explain himself but he is interrupted when Cementoss uses his Quirk to tear open the Paranormal Liberation Front's mansion.
Then Midnight talks to Denki and her words help cheer him up and focus. Fumikage watches with satisfaction as his classmate manages to stop a powerful electric attack from the villains.[64] Thank to this, the Paranormal Liberation Front is caught off guard by the surprise attack, which allows the heroes to take the initiative and defeat many of their soldiers. The heroes also sealed all the external secret entrances to a giant sanctuary beneath the mansion, leaving the interior ones only.[86]
Fat Gum and Suneater ask Fumikage to join them in sealing one of these entrances, defeating the villains who try to stop them. When they reach the entrance, Tsukuyomi uses his new Ultimate Move Ragnarök, unleashing Dark Shadow at full power. Fukimage floods the tunnel with Dark Shadow's berserker state and the liberation soldiers inside flee.
Re-Destro steps out of the crowd and uses his Stress Quirk to block Dark Shadow, but his prosthetic legs cannot bear the impact and break. Re-Destro gets blasted through the rear wall of the tunnel towards the underground sanctuary. Fumikage recalls Dark Shadow and he tells him downstairs is a true monster. Fumikage thinks he is referring the man who withstood their attack but Dark Shadow corrects him by saying that it's actually another being.
Fat Gum realizes that Dark Shadow is referring to Gigantomachia, and assures him that Gigantomachia won't move unless directly ordered by his master, Tomura Shigaraki. After tucking Fumikage into his belly to keep him protected, Fat Gum reveals to him that they got this intel directly from Hawks, prompting Fumikage to recall his training under Hawks. Thanks to the Winged Hero's tutelage, Fumikage has become stronger and improved on his strengths. Fumikage hopes that Hawks can see how much he's grown during this mission.[87]
As Fat Gum transports Fumikage away from the battlefield, he also picks up Denki, Juzo, and Kinoko. When they are about to leave the place, Fumikage notices a blast of fire coming out of the mansion, fleetingly seeing Hawks in trouble.[88]. Seeing him, Fumikage wants to come back to help. Fat Gum tries to stop him, but Fumikage manages to jump out of his body and fly back. Denki yells to ask what he is doing and Fumikage responds by saying that Hawks is on the top floor in the building and he could be in trouble.
Fumikage's fears come true, as Hawks is about to be killed by Dabi when he reaches them. Dark Shadow quickly covers Hawks with Fumikage's cloak while informing him that there is nothing left of his wings. Dabi faces Fumikage and points to Twice's corpse, revealing that Hawks killed him, which shocks Fumikage. Then, Dabi rhetorically asks Fumikage why he is saving Hawks when his hands are dirtier than those of villains. Fumikage simply replies that he had come there because he is concerned about his mentor, only for Dabi to call him thoughtless before attacking him.
Fumikage barely dodges the attack because the area was too cramped, and his right leg ends up getting burnt. Fumikage can't fight back due Dark Shadow's weakness towards the flames' light, so his best option is to escape as fast as possible. While Dabi talks to him, a semi-conscious Hawks tells him that Dabi speaks constantly during the fights because he needs to buy himself time until he can use his flames again.
Hawks tells him to escape now before Dabi can attack again. Fumikage obeys but they only manages to reach a lower level. Fumikage checks on Hawks and finds out that he has fallen unconscious, but is still alive. When he prepares to fly off, Dabi re-appears, saying to Fumikage he was holding back when he used his fire earlier.
When Dabi is about to cremate them, a huge wall of ice created by Geten disrupts him, allowing Fumikage to escape with Hawks. As he flies away, a crying Fumikage tells Hawks that he believes in him, despite what Dabi has told him before, saying he's not dirty.[89] They are spotted by Fat Gum, who had returned in his search, and upon seeing the injured Hawks, he yells at Fumikage to inform him that there should be medics in the rear guard before he follows him and Hawks into the woods.[90]
Once there, after the doctors treated Hawks' wounds. Later, on his rampaging path towards Tomura Shigaraki, Gigantomachia passes near the medical camp, causing huge rocks to fall through the area. Using Black Shadow, Fumikage manages to get Hawks and several medics to safety. Fumikage is stunned by the fearsome destructive power of Gigantomachia.[91]
Fumikage is later seen watching Dabi's recording over the news alongside still watching over Hawks, and is shocked at the revelations of Hawks' past as the son of a murderer.[92] After being admitted to Central Hospital, Fumikage is cleared for release, leaving with just a burn scar on his leg.[93][94] Once Fumikage returns to Heights Alliance, he receives a letter from Izuku explaining his origins as being Quirkless and the powers of One For All, which makes him leave U.A. High to safeguard his safety from All For One.[95]
Dark Hero Arc#
A few days after Izuku left U.A., Fumikage joins a meeting with Class 1-A. Fumikage heads to the lodge to discuss the situation between Izuku and One For All, explaining that he's tried to contact Hawks after he was released from the hospital, but the hero refuses to answer back his calls. Alongside Shoto and Katsuki not receiving answers from their mentors either, they all deduce Izuku is now working with Endeavor and his team, as well as All Might. A few days later, impatient with their response, Class 1-A pushed forward using Endeavor's U.A. Alumni status to confront him and get him to reveal the truth.
Once Principal Nezu gives Class 1-A permission to bring back Izuku to U.A, Fumikage joins with Class 1-A to search for Izuku while at the same time, apprehending any prison escapees along the way. After a month of trailing in Izuku's whereabouts, Class 1-A finally arrived on the scene to defeat the villain Dictator. When Izuku refuses to yield, he demands everyone to get out of his way, which means they'll have to fight.[96]
Wanting to stop Izuku, Fumikage attacks him with Dark Shadow to restrain him, forcing Izuku to be restricted in a machine designed to put him to sleep created by Momo. Izuku destroys it with his head and tries to free himself, but Mezo and Denki press on to restrain him with Fumikage also helping to keep Izuku pinned down, using his new Ultimate Move: Womb, to trap him. He reminds Izuku that the idea of using Dark Shadow's offensive power for defensive purposes came during their team up during the Cavalry Battle at the Sports Festival.[97]
Inside the Ragnarok and insulation tape, Denki prepares to blast electricity into the contained Izuku, as they try to get him to listen to reason. Begging them to stop, Izuku manages to break free from their restraints, blasting away from the building. Izuku continues to fight and flee from his classmates until Tenya catches up thanks to the efforts of the classmates working together to push him forward, including Fumikage.[98]
Fumikage flies on over to regroup with everyone and listens to Katsuki apologizing to Izuku before he collapses from the shock and exhaustion. Once Izuku is safely secured, Fumikage escorts him back to a heavily fortified U.A .High where Class 1-A is confronted by angry protesting civilians.[99] They are aware that Tomura is after Izuku and fear them being in danger, leading Ochaco to give a pleading speech toward the crowd on why he needs their help and deserves to stay and rest, with the civilians eventually agreeing.[100]
Izuku is escorted inside, where he and the other boys of the class quickly strip him of his dirty clothes, washing him vigorously and then dumping him in the bathtub before joining in. Katsuki berates them all for doing a poor job at cleaning, leading Fumikage to comment that even despite his apology he still hasn't changed, though Katsuki notes that he still considers everyone his rivals. After finishing the bath, Fumikage tries to ask Izuku and then later All Might to get Hawks to answer his messages, before Izuku finally passes out from exhaustion.
Thinking about how the evacuees are still nervous, Kyoka drags her former bandmates, including Fumikage, together, stating that just like the last time there were other people that regarded them with apprehension, they need to do something to reassure them and bring smiles to their faces, just like they did at the Culture Festival. Class 1-A comes back together, as they declare they won't just bring the world back to how it was, but to make it a better place than before, and do it all together.[101]
Star and Stripe Arc#
Days later, Class 1-A learn that during this time, Tomura had fought American No. 1 Hero, Star and Stripe, and while she was killed during the battle with Tomura successfully stealing her Quirk, New Order, thanks to her actions, the Quirk acted like a virus within his body, destroying several of his Quirks and delaying his procedure by about a week.
All Might informs all this to the class, telling them that this is now their perfect time to prepare for the inevitable all-out war. The class reveals over the past month they had been training with the Wild, Wild Pussycats in order to keep up with Izuku in the incoming conflict, and are now about to head out to continue their training.[102]
U.A. Traitor Arc#
The class proceed to train amongst themselves in the courtyards outside. Shortly after this, Fumikage alongside the rest of the class discover the news that Izuku has captured the Aoyamas and revealing Yuga to be the traitor who isolated the class at the U.S.J. and revealed the location of their training camp. Once the Aoyamas are restrained, he and the rest of the class refuse to back down from the news despite Nezu's request, all in stunned and tears of Yuga's betrayal. He listens to Yuga's desperation that drove him to despair and then Izuku pleading to let Yuga help them, leading the class to realize Yuga may be the only one able to deceive All For One.[103]
Shota then appears on a tablet screen, taking full responsibility and reveals that he has an idea. He listened to Shota's plan after the Aoyama Family's ears have been covered. Naomasa then has the Aoyama Family escorted back to their HQ, telling everyone not to say a word to anyone else about the plan while he and the rest of the class look on sullenly.
Back at Heights Alliance, Fumikage takes a breather, before getting ready to gear back up, as he and everyone, with fire and rage in their eyes over the betrayal, prepares to bring All For One down once and for all.[104] He joins up with their "Search Squad" to head out to hunt down the villains.[105]
Later that night, Fumikage and his classmates return to Heights Alliance for a break after coming up with nothing from their search. All Might, Naomasa, and Nezu then arrive, informing them all about their secret finalized plans for the upcoming Second War.[106] They call in Hitoshi Shinso, revealing their plan to get him to brainwash the Aoyamas so that they can communicate with All For One without him detecting any ill intent. The class cheers on Hitoshi for his growth, including their teacher after learning he trained him.[107]
The next day, Nezu announces to the civilians that Tomura will make his big move in 4 days, with Class 1-A moving outside of the U.A. barrier to began prioritizing their safety. He says his goodbyes before moving out of Heights Alliance and into its upgraded makeshift fortress called "Troy".[106]
My Hero Academia: You're Next#
During Class 1-A's Quirk training, in preparation to hunt down Tomura and the remaining members of the Paranormal Liberation Front, Class-A swarm in to see Izuku's notebook about his analysis about them. However, Katsuki takes offense by what was written about him, and causes a ruckus. All Might walks up to the class and says it's time to move out, as the students take off in an armored van to track down the Villains.[108]
Throughout the month, Fumikage is a member of Team 1 of Class 1-A, consisting of Katsuki, Mina, Eijiro, Koji, and Rikido, to apprehend all the Jailbreakers who escaped from Tartarus and other maximum-security prisons across the country. The team rendezvous with Teams 1 and 2 for a break from combat, taking the chance to motivate each other, relax, and complain about the Villains. However, they're suddenly attacked by a group of rogue Villains intent on stealing one of the Heroes' armored trucks. The U.A. students, expecting the attack, fight back and defeat them. The Villains are handed over to the police as All Might informs the students of new Villain sightings, and they split into three groups, following up on the reports.[109]
Later, he and his team defeated four Jailbreaker villains and took them to the nearest police station. Team 2 contacts Team 1 and 3 at a police station, who've also apprehended more villains and escapees. Hawks, via the Counter-Force, give the teams their next assignment: apprehend a Tartarus escapee, Ginji Kurau, who has been spotted nearby.
Fumikage and Team 1 heads over to apprehend Ginji before the other team does, but team 3, led by Izuku, is the first to encounter the Jailbreaker, discovering that he is holding a woman named Anna Scervino. Izuku faces Ginji but the fight is interrupted first by Giulio Gandini, who tries to kill Anna, and then by the arrival of the Gollini Family, a mafia organization consisting of Bruno, Kamile, Deborah Gollini, Paulo, Simon, Ugo, Gil, and their masked leader, Valdo Gollini.
They take Anna, whom Deborah hypnotizes, and then Valdo undoes his mask, revealing that he has the appearance of prime All Might. After brutally defeating Ginji, he uses his Alchemy Quirk to create a microphone and several cameras and drones, hacking into every communication network. He announces to the country that he has come to "save Japan" from their despair caused by the war and vows that he will use his strength and power to promote justice and become the next Symbol of Peace in honor of All Might’s god-like powers.
Izuku calls him out with disgust over using violence and putting innocent civilians in danger, taiting All Might's legacy. Hearing his words, Valdo decides to prove Izuku wrong by using his powers. He touches the hypnotized Anna, and his powers tremendously increase as he uses his Quirk to transform their floating ship into a massive fortress, consuming everything in its path in an ocean of light.
Teams 1, 2, and 3 witness the rapid expansion of the transformation. The transformation light consumes Teams 2 and 3. In a panic, Team 2 tries to flee from the city in their truck, but the light is too fast and catches up with them, consuming Team 1 into the Fortress of All Might.
Fumikage and his teammates regain consciousness and, along with his classmates, end up in different areas of the fortress, but they cannot communicate. To their surprise, they ended up in a night amusement park with a castle in the back end. Katsuki decides the team heads to the outside world to find a way around the fortress.
They enter a castle in the amusement park and charge right in, where they encounter Valdo, now calling himself Dark Might and dressed in very flashy masquerade costume. The villain welcomes them to the Symbol of Paradise, which is what he calls his flying fortress, and explains that people admired All Might for his great power, and that he has decided to test them to prove they are worthy of joining his organization once he becomes All Might's successor as the new Symbol of Peace.
Speaking for his teammates, Katsuki refuses to accept the villain's proposal, claiming that, except for his physical appearance, he bears no resemblance to the real All Might. Outraged, Dark Might, who wants to test them to see if any are All Might's successors, sends them to an underground dungeon where Simon is waiting for them. He uses his Monster Summon Quirk to conjure multiple monsters, forcing them to fight their way out while Simon watches them on several screens, eagerly waiting to see who is going to survive the battle.
Fumikage and his team manage to find Simon by brute forcing their way through, and Katsuki defeats him by pulling the pin on his Grenadier Bracers, unleashing a large explosion at point-blank range. After being defeated, Dark Might throws Simon into an abyss as punishment for his failure. The villain then praises their efforts, but they will die in his fortress and summon more monsters to eliminate Team 2 completely.
However, Fumikage and Team 1 blow their way out of the dungeon and into a town after defeating Dark Might's puppet monsters, encountering the rest of the Class A teams and the kidnapped civilians as well as Giulio. On behalf of his team, Katsuki declares that they're not going to let anyone die while they're still going to be Heroes, vowing to crush the Villains and the fake All Might.
During the absence of team 1, Giulio told to their classmates he was a butler who worked for Anna's family, since thanks to his Neutralization Quirk he could keep Anna's under control. Her Quirk, Overmodification, allows her to greatly enhance the Quirk factors of some compatible individuals. However, her quirk was becoming more uncontrollable and dangerous as time went by.
The situation worsened after the Gollini kidnapped her and began abusing her power, which would put many lives in danger if they were not stopped. Unfortunately, Giulio explains that he had lost his right arm during Gollini's attack, so he could no longer use his Quirk, so his only option was to kill Anna before it was too late, just as Anna herself had made him promise before her kidnapping. The members of teams 2 and 3 manage to convince Giulio to try to save Anna without having to kill her and, shortly after their arrival, team 1 also agrees to help Giulio and defeat the fake All Might.
Meanwhile, after the students had managed to defeat several of his subordinates, Dark Might orders to change the course of the flying fortress and head directly to the U.A. Shelter. He then broadcasts to the students that he will become the new Symbol of Peace when he destroys All Might and the last remnants of the Heroes still at the U.A., and he will then be the one they can rely on. Class A organize to prevent this, and while most students round up the civilians and prepare to evacuate the fortress, Fumikage moves towards the palace alongside Izuku, Katsuki, Shoto and Giulio, to bring back Anna and defeat Dark Might.
The five of them pass through a tunnel and arrive at an underground amphitheater, where they are immediately surrounded by dozens of Dark Might golems emerging from the walls. They confront them, but Tsukuyomi tells the others to continue while he stays behind to fend the creatures off. The others agree, and Izuku asks him to be careful before leaving.
Fumikage fights the monsters alone for several minutes, but he is starting to grow exhausted from the battle of attrition, as every time he destroys them, more monsters keep generating to take their place. On the verge of his defeat, the amphitheater's roof suddenly collapses, and someone tells Fumikage that giving up isn't like him. To his surprise, it's Hawks, who had managed to infiltrate the flying fortress along with other heroes to help the students evacuate the citizens and fight Valdo's monsters.
Hero and pupil fight together until the monsters finally stop moving and crumble, indicating that Izuku, Katsuki, Shoto, and Giulio successfully defeated Dark Might, causing the fortress to cease summoning monsters. Meanwhile, Mirio finds and knocks out Kamille, halting the fortress as it falls from the sky.
Although the danger seems to be over, Anna loses control of her Quirk, and Valdo regains consciousness and uses her enhanced properties to turn himself into a colossal monster. Giulio manages to touch Anna, and his own Neutralization Quirk becomes greatly enhanced, allowing him to use it on Anna finally. With Dark Might vulnerable, Izuku, Shoto, and Katsuki defeat him definitively. With the Gollini Family defeated, the U.A. Shelter is safe, and everyone cheers on the Heroes and Class 1-A for their valiant victory. Eijiro and the rest of the class watch as Anna decides to stay with Giulio, now that her Quirk is finally nullified for good.[110]
Final War Arc#
With the number of Heroes rapidly dwindling, those that remain and the Counter Force have come up with a plan to defeat All For One and his army of villains for an all-out-battle in the Final War. The plan is to utilize Hitoshi Shinso's Brainwashing Quirk to get the Aoyamas to speak to All For One without any malicious intent, allowing the Heroes to lure the villains out to a specific location.
Fumikage asks how the Heroes are eventually supposed to deal with the massive amounts of Villains all at once, since they too would have to gather in one location and compromise their element of surprise. All Might and Naomasa states that the Heroes don't need to be there in advance. It turns out they will use Neito Monoma for that purpose, since he can copy Kurogiri's Warp Gate Quirk to teleport themselves onto the battlefield.
On the day the plan is carried out, Fumikage remains with Class 1-A at Troy until Izuku and Yuga successfully lure out All For One and the villains, where they are all teleported onto the battlefield. All Might then activates the "Troy" system trap, encasing the majority of villains into cages, delaying them long enough for them to be pushed into several more Warp Gates by the Heroes and separated.[107]
Fumikage and Kyoka join the team led by Endeavor responsible for dealing with All For One and several miscellaneous villains, ending up at the ruins of the Gunga Mountain Villa, where Hawks is waiting for them.[111] While Endeavor and Hawks deal with All For One himself in the air, Fumikage and the rest of the Heroes remain on the ground to deal with the remaining threats.
However, in the midst of the battle, All For One manages to catch Endeavor off guard, knocking him out of the fight, and is about to obliterate Hawks with his Air Cannon. But just then, Kyoka rides Fumikage in his Black Fallen Angel state and uses her Heartbeat Wall to protect Hawks from the attack.
After Fumikage tries to regain his bearings with Kyoka on his back trying not to fall, All For One recognizes them as the "gnats around One For All", likening them to the "side characters" in the old comics he read, who existed just to show how strong the Demon Lord was. Kyoka then confidently responds that he should save comments like that until he's actually beaten them.[112]
Hawks calls out to Fumikage to leave due to how dangerous it is, who immediately responds back that he was deployed there in the first place to support them in case things went bad. Hawks thinks about how they never expected it to be necessary with Endeavor, but considering how everything's going now, he asks his "hero" to help him.
All For One uses his Mouth Quirk to shoot out an array of mouths from his fingertips and attack Kyoka, until Hawks uses some of his feathers to push her upwards out of the way, before being caught by Fumikage. While beating down All For One's mask, Hawks tells Fumikage he'll back him up. Dark Shadow then asks Kyoka if she's alright, while Fumikage tells her to use her Quirk to crack the mask with her sound waves.
While attacking Hawks with one hand, All For One uses his other to create a massive Quirk combination cannon aimed directly at the 1-A students. He mocks their anxiousness, asking if they're treating this like just another day at school like "deluded extras", blasting the cannon directly at them, despite Hawks' attempts to use his feathers to push it out of the way, leaving him vulnerable for another attack.
All For One continues to mock Hawks and the students uselessness, asking the kids if being around the strong made them believe they were worthy of facing down the Demon Lord. Both students managed to survive the attack and stay in the air, but Kyoka's left Earphone Jack was blown off, severely wounding her.[113] Despite the pain, she angrily responds that all he does is talk about who's weak, strong, and special, while she doesn't care at all, only that he made her friends cry.
Fuelled by her rage against All For One for hurting her friends, Kyoka blasts him with a powerful new Ultimate Move Heartbeat Surround: Legato, and with All For One delayed due to the Quirks within him rebelling, Hawks is given the opportunity to smack a part of his mask, partially destroying it.[114]
Kyoka then jumps off of Fumikage and Dark Shadow, telling them to attack now and catch her later. Realizing Hawks isn't strong enough to finish it off, Fumikage covers his body with Black Abyss and unleashes a "Ragnarök: Fleeting Blow", creating a giant fist that smashes the rest of All For One's mask, destroying it.
Fumikage then catches Kyoka, while Hawks mocks All For One for assuming they were just trying to buy some time. Hawks prepares to go in for the kill, but All For One retaliates, unleashing a hell of Rivet Stabs to attempt to reclaim the broken pieces of his mask. Hawks quickly goes to protect Fumikage and Kyoka from most of the damage, with the three then saved by Endeavor, taking the brunt of the Rivets and losing an arm in the process.[115]
He and Kyoka watched as Endeavor battles All For One, seemingly burning him to a crisp. However, much to his horror, All For One survives using a reverse engineered Quirk-Destroying Drug, rewinding his body back to his prime state, which Fumikage recognizes as being just like Eri's Quirk. Hawks leaves the two students behind as he goes to try and deal with All For One.[116]
Unfortunately, the battle is falling apart when Kurogiri, freed by Spinner, teleports both Dabi from Kamino and Himiko Toga from Okuto Island onto the battlefield. Himiko, who has transformed into Twice, activates and unleashes Sad Man's Parade all over the battlefield, shocking Fumikage and Kyoka.
As the Infinite Doubles swarm and Dabi's Blueflames start to overwhelm the Heroes, the two then reunite with Ochaco and Tsuyu, who also arrived through a Warp Gate. After noticing Kyoka's injury, Ochaco says that all of Japan will be buried unless they stop Himiko, but Fumikage tells them Dabi's flames are too hot, and because there are so many Twice Doubles swarming on them, all they can do is flee for themselves now that their divide and conquer strategy has failed.[117]
Once Fumikage brought his friends to safety, he returns to the sky to find Hawks engaging in close combat with All For One, only to see him seemingly be killed by All For One using a spatial distortion Quirk. Fumikage was distraught to witness his mentor dying, but then suddenly, Hawks' face turns all "glittery" and simply fades away, which leaves Fumikage dumbstruck. It is revealed to be an illusion created by Camie who had just arrived on time with reinforcements from the Hero Course students of Shiketsu High School.
Seiji had just saved Hawks using his Quirk to get him away while he was replaced by his illusionary double. Seiji tells them that they were originally tasked with escorting the civilians evacuated at U.A. through the tunnels, but since they never showed up, they assumed something had gone wrong, so they have arrived to help, as Inasa unleashes a massive Whirlwind to suck up the Twice Double swarm.[118]
With the Shiketsu High School students joining the war, the battle at the Gunga Mountains has become the turning point as the Heroes are now on the offensive, pouring all of their long-ranged attacks directed at All For One. Fumikage takes advantage of this to rush over to Pixie-Bob and get her to cover him up in her Quirk, in preparation for his big play. All For One continues to throw a barrage of attacks at the Heroes, decrying their ignorance over the darkness he brings from his golden era and how they won't risk getting near him or have their Quirk stolen.
But suddenly, All For One feels an ominous presence behind him, and is stunned into silence as he sees the massive "dark shadow" emerge from behind. Now completely immersed in total darkness in his Black Abyss form, Fumikage tells All For One that even darkness comes in a range of shadows, and that they've already devoured the filthy darkness that he brought, as he brings out Dark Shadow's giant monstrous form.
Thanks to the dark clouds blocking the sunlight, the flames dying out by the rain storm, and pilling up his darkness from being covered underground, he has allowed Dark Shadow to achieve its Total Release full power. Fumikage then reveals what All Might said to him, how All For One can't steal Endeavor's Quirk just by touching his flames, which is why he was tasked with supporting them. With his rage and being supported by Hawks, Fumikage uses Dark Shadow boosted by Inasa's Whirlwind to unleash Black Abyss: Light of Baldur, pulverizing All For One down into the ground.[119]
As Fumikage continues his assault, Hawks tells him that even though he's invincible, All For One's on a timer so they just need to keep him down at all costs. Kyoka yells out to the Heroes to cover up Dark Shadow and block out any source of light, with Camie preparing to project an aurora sky with her Quirk to help. Before the heroes could power up Dark Shadow, All For One suddenly releases a massive nuclear explosion that blasts away Dark Shadow, greatly diminishing him once again. All For One states how obnoxious they all are, as Fumikage notices how visibly younger the Villain looks now, due to the Rewind effect. In ensuring chaos, All For One use his Quirks to blast his way out of the battlefield.
Fumikage and the Heroes give chase after him, with Inasa carrying them with his wind, refusing to let him escape. Just then, Gigantomachia suddenly arrives onto the battlefield, with All For One commanding him to finish them. Instead however, Gigantomachia throws a giant mountain boulder directly at his master, infuriating him. On the beast's head, Eijiro calls out to Fumikage, telling him they are here to ensure he doesn't reach Izuku and Tomura, and is accompanied by Hitoshi.[120]
Dark Shadow, Inasa, and now joined by Mt. Lady and Gigantomachia, continue their assault in keeping All For One contained. Fumikage, supported by Hawks, figures that Hitoshi is Brainwashing Gigantomachia, with Hawks responding that it is a gamble they are risking, aware that if All For One is able to attack Machia, the Brainwashing will be undone. Sure enough, All For One is able to land a direct hit, breaking control of the behemoth.
However, despite being freed, to everyone's surprise, Machia asks his master why he left him behind, venting about being betrayed and abandoned after waiting for him for so long, and proceeds to attack him of his own volition. With this turn of events, the four resume their assault on All For One until he vanishes for good.[121]
As Fumikage continued, he starts to show fatigue due to the amount of darkness he's taken to power Dark Shadow. Hawks apologizes to his student that he can only be his wingman since he's limited from his wings, but he responds that his support is all he needs to fuel his Light of Baldur, as everyone keeps pushing their full effort toward All For One.
However, All For One manages to gain the upper hand by unleashing several powerful attacks that gravely neutralize both Mt. Lady and Gigantomachia. His regenerating skeletal remains proceed to unleash a destructive blast of light, that completely destroys Dark Shadow, and eviscerates Fumikage and Hawks, with Hawks attempting to take most of the damage to protect his student.
As the dust settles, All For One stands triumph over the battle. All the Heroes lie battered, broken, bleeding to death, or dead. Fumikage barely survived his onslaught, and his severely wounded body lies unconscious on the ground. All For One attempts to steal Dark Shadow as retribution for all the trouble Fumikage caused him, with a barely conscious Hawks still resisting to protect him, though getting his Quirk stolen in the process. Before the Villain can take it however, Minoru weakly begs All For One not to and to take his instead. He decides not to waste another second and leaves the battlefield.[122]
Fumikage lies unconscious while Hawks stands his ground to defend him against the ocean of Twice Doubles created by Himiko Toga. Luckily, Hawks manages to protect Fumikage long enough for Himiko to be defeated and the Twice Doubles vanish into thin air.[123]
Shortly afterward, a news copter arrives on the ruined battlefield and comes to collect the injured so that can get medical treatment.[124] Fumikage regains consciousness, and together with Hawks, watches through a mobile phone the final battle of the last standing heroes against All For One, who had finally managed to take control of the body and Tomura. He shouts out to Izuku, who was in Mt. Fuji battling All For One to "do your best".[125]
Eventually, thanks to the help and support of his allies, Izuku manages to bash a smash right through Tomura's chest, and succeeds in defeating him just before Tomura succumbs to his injuries and dies as his body disintegrates into ashes.[126]
One week after the end of the Final War, the restoration efforts that were stalled after the Jaku Hospital Raid have picked back up at a breakneck pace, as Heroes from around the world arrived to provide support and resources in rescue and rebuilding Japan. Once he has recovered sufficiently from his injuries, Fumikage returns to the partially rebuilt U.A.[127]
Epilogue Arc#
Later, in June, Fumikage attends the U.A. High Graduation along with the rest of his classmates. He watches the Third years receive their diplomas from Principal Nezu, including Tamaki, Nejire, and Mirio. Mirio also gives a motivational farewell speech, speaking about the need for a bright future where people can smile.
After graduation, Class 1-A becomes 2-A and moves to a temporary classroom, where Shota informs them that he will remain their homeroom teacher for another year, much to the class's delight. Yuga then enters to say goodbye, having decided to leave U.A. to atone for his crimes, vowing to become a true hero from scratch. To keep everyone else from crying, he shoots his Navel Laser everywhere.
Yuga then reveals that Hitoshi will be taking his place as Class A's newest member. Fumikage and several of his classmates are happy about it. Feeling left out by everyone's excitement over Hitoshi, Yuga shoots his lasers again, asking his former classmates to start planning his farewell party.
After things calmed down, their senior Mawata Fuwa announces that during the next weeks, the second and third-year students will participate in reconstruction and patrol tasks throughout the country under her supervision. The students are surprised when she casually addresses Shota as "Era-sen", and Mawata explains she used to be in his class, and he once expelled everyone to give them a taste of "death," which made them understand why they wanted to become Heroes.
After class, several 2-A students are discussing the arrival of new first years since they are now second years and upperclassmen. While they chat, Ochaco points out Izuku's shaved hair because of surgery. This prompts Rikido to mention Fumikage's new "makeover", in that the feathers on his head are more frazzled. Fumikage says his change in hairstyle doesn't really apply, but he still likes it.[128]
The next day, after the new first-years mobbed Katsuki and Shoto in an excess of admiration and had to be scolded by Tenya, Class 2-A join up with some Heroes in a city on reconstruction duty, assisting Fat Gum, Suneater, and Best Jeanist in demolishing and repairing a section of buildings. As reconstruction treks on, local civilians provide food for the students to eat for lunch, as a thank you for their help and hard work.
At that moment another bus arrives, bringing the first-year students. Their homeroom teacher, Cementoss, explains they insisted on helping with the reconstruction efforts in order to be of use and to make up for their earlier misgivings. They are given minor tasks to assist while class 2-A rest.
Later that night, because they eased up on dormitory requirements, students who wanted to go back home could, Ochaco decides to go home for a bit. Tsuyu had noticed that Ochaco was suffering despite trying to pretend everything was fine, and she tried to contact her, but Ochaco wasn't responding to her text messages. Concerned, Tsuyu decides to tell the rest of the class about what's happening, and immediately everyone goes out to look for her.[129]
Fumikage and the rest of Class A head over to the hillside of former Troy to check on her, only to see that Izuku had come before the class and Ochaco seems to be doing well. While they comfort her, Katsuki asks Izuku about the embers of One For All he just used up. The class freaks out upon learning that Izuku only has embers remaining of One For All, and swarms over him to get the details and scolding him for leaving them in the dark, which the boy quickly agrees to fill them in on.
Later, Class 2-A celebrate their goodbye party for Yuga, with Eri singing for the first time in front of the entire class while Kyoka plays the guitar.[130]
As time passes, Class A becomes Third Year and focuses on their reconstruction efforts while doing Hero work. Finally, it was time for Class A's graduation ceremony, and all Third Year Students from Class A, B, and Support Course are prepared to have their diplomas ready.
Fumikage receives his from Principal Nezu, while Dark Shadow applauds him, barely able to contain his tears of joy. After this, Fumikage listens to Tenya's farewell speech about their hard work, which ends with a bang with an huge explosion caused by Katsuki and Monoma.[131]
In the eight years following her graduation, Fumikage becomes a fully-fledged hero, soaring through the night skies with Dark Shadow. He becomes well-known enough to have its own brand. He sometimes Teams-up with Hitoshi in deep-cover operation, and both are considered amazing mystery men lurking in the darkness. Despite this, Fumikage also finds time to occasionally hang up with Hawks.
In other matters, Izuku is now a teacher at U.A., and due to his loss of One For All, Fumikage and his former classmates funded the creation of a mechanical armor similar to Armored All Might for him. They have to pool a lot of funding from their Hero Work to help making the suit with the aid of Melissa and Mei.
Once the suit was done, All Might delivers the surprise gift for Izuku, who tears up and smiles to be able to be a hero again. When Hawks mentions traffic being backed up because of a landslide on WarStar Road and requesting Heroes who can respond, Izuku puts on his new "Armored Deku" suit and is joined by the rest of his former classmates. As they head to the landside, Fumikage joins the rest of his fellow Heroes of Class A.[131]
At a restaurant, the former students of Class A celebrate Shoto's new Number 2 Hero ranking on the Hero Billboard Chart JP. The classmates discuss amongst themselves the differing nature of the hero rankings nowadays, and joking around about each other's placements and their current statues as Heroes and Sidekicks. Rikido mentions his surprise everyone has been able to get together once again, which Mashirao states is due to the decreasing number of Villains every year. Fumikage remarks on the Heroes both old and new that have continued fighting all this time, thinking that eventually Heroes are headed towards extinction. Suddenly, everyone receives a notification of a criminal's Quirk causing a lot of damage, as the former classmates blast off together.
The incident is quickly resolved, as the criminal is arrested, noting that it was just a "sudden impulse". Eijiro Kirishima claims that none of them are losing their jobs anytime soon witch means the odds of heroes becoming extinct is very slim, while Fumikage admits he has a valid point. The group decide to split up for the night, with all of them going their separate ways.[132]
