Dark is the three hundred and eighty-first chapter of Kohei Horikoshi's My Hero Academia.
Summary#
As the Shiketsu High School students join the battle at Gunga, Seiji remarks how All For One killed his father when he broke out of Tartarus and while he would like to kill him in revenge, he knows they can't let themselves give into their hatred and will follow in his father's footsteps to protect. As the rest of the students arrive, they reveal that Deku and Tomura have left the U.A. cage, so they must stop the chaos now at all costs, subduing Himiko and her Twice Doubles, as well as focusing all their ranged attacks on All For One.
Naomasa Tsukauchi calls into Hawks, reporting that the school was already on their way before he made his request for reinforcements, reminding them that whatever happens in Gunga will determine the fate of the war, and All For One cannot be allowed to leave no matter what. All For One thinks to himself how he can only steal a Quirk by touching the user's body directly, and while they only attacked him with two people at first to avoid that risk, now they've become so desperate they're throwing caution to the wind, which he smiles cackling at.
Using several thorns extending from his back, All For One unleashes a massive laser explosion, decimating the battlefield below. Despite this, the Heroes stand their ground, to keep their defense strong and keep attacking, especially now that he's stopped running away. All For One instead monologues asking what makes them think they will emerge this time, that they lost the only one who could face him head on, and how ignorant he believes they are; with none of them being from his golden age, some of them having witnessed All Might's rise to power, and most being born when he reigned supreme.
He continues that he lived in an era when people trembled in fear of something lurking in the darkness, when all were tainted by suspicion, resentment, exploitation, and prejudice; his golden dark age. Inasa then proceeds to fight back with his Whirlwind, retorting that while they knew nothing about who he was, they knew about that period through history class, and that he's decided to root for Endeavor and Shoto, believing hot-blooded passion will always triumph over fear.
As the Heroes continue firing their attacks into his Whirlwind, All For One decides to try to steal some Quirks, unleashing another hell of Rivet Stabs that manage to slice part of Inasa's face. Despite this, he states his Quirk is even stronger on windy days, and that instead of All For One's ancient glory days, he'd rather see a future built by the people he's cheering on. Hawks hears this and thinks back to his words about the progress being grown, and just like One For All, how a network of power has linked the hearts of people together, and Endeavor has done his part with that too.
All For One becomes irritated at the look in their eyes, looking past him and constantly stoking the flames even after the light has gone out. He says it's all for naught since they won't come too close for fear he'll steal their Quirks, only to be stunned into silence as a massive "Dark Shadow" emerges from behind. Seeing Tsukuyomi in this state causes All For One to realize what made him tense up in their initial encounter.
Tsukuyomi says that even darkness comes in a range of shadows, and that they've already devoured the filthy darkness that he brought, revealing Dark Shadow's giant monstrous form. Thanks to the dark clouds blocking the sunlight, the flames dying out by the rain storm, and Pixie-Bob covering him in the Earth to pile up his darkness, Tsukuyomi has allowed Dark Shadow to achieve its Total Release full power, telling him what All Might said, how he can't steal Endeavor's Quirk just by touching his flames, which is why he was tasked with supporting them. Hawks thinks about how he has been able to support him, as Dark Shadow boosted by Inasa's Whirlwind unleashes Black Abyss: Light of Baldur, punching All For One down into the ground with a direct hit.
Chapter Notes#
- Seiji's father is revealed to have been a guard killed by All For One during the Assault on Tartarus.
- The Heroes and the backup of the Shiketsu High students unleash all of their attacks on All For One, who is unable to steal their Quirks unless he directly touches them.
- He unleashes several powerful Quirk combination attacks, but does little to deter their assault.
- After Inasa starts attacking him with his Whirlwind, All For One is caught off guard by the monstrous form of Tsukuyomi using Dark Shadow at its full power, taking advantage of the dark skies and building up darkness in the ground.
- He combines with Inasa's winds to unleash "Light of Baldur", pummelling All For One into the ground.
