Those Who Defend, Those Who Violate is the one hundred and fiftieth episode of the My Hero Academia anime and the twelfth episode of the seventh season.

Summary#

As Deku continues to fly across the sea on a course for the Coffin in the Sky, Yoichi's vestige warns him that he has a feeling that his older brother's Quirks have suddenly grown much more powerful. The boy then notices an array of objects flying towards him on the horizon.

On the floating campus, the heroes are in a desperate situation with Dynamight's apparent demise at the hands of "Tomura". Phantom Thief can't believe what happened, Best Jeanist observes with anguish that Dynamight has no pulse due his heart being ravaged, while Lemillion is enraged at failing to protect him. On the other hand "Tomura" rubs his supposed killing Dynamight in Eraserhead's face, and asks the heroes who of the remaining will offer themselves up to be another "present" for Deku to find once he arrives on the field.

While Best Jeanist sends an array of fibers into Dynamight's chest wound, the Villain uses his arm growth to grab Mirko and rip off her prosthetic arm, as the woman curses herself for not finishing off Tomura back during the raid on Jaku General Hospital.

"Tomura" tells her to not get too discouraged, as she wasn't the only useless Hero on the scene then, and some of her comrades were bound to end up dead in this current battle since the number of Heroes dropped and students were put on the front lines to deal with the Villains. He says that Deku was in his right mind to try and force himself to take down the Villains before they had a chance to prepare, as the Heroes' lack of resources are now catching up to them in this current conflict.

Back at Ground Zero in Kamino Ward, Dabi is back standing with Onima in his clutches, radiating a massive amount of his flames, thanks to him copying Shoto's Phosphor right before he was hit with Great Glacial Aegir and defeated the first time. This also boosted the power of his flames to where his entire body is now burnt dark purple, and several of the Heroes start being lit on fire just from getting too close to him.

After throwing Onima out of his torrent of fire, Dabi calls to Skeptic through a communication device implanted in the Near High-End Nomu's neck. Skeptic, using a series of Feel Good Inc. satellites he hacked with his own private network, tells him that Endeavor is currently fighting All For One in the ruins of the Gunga Mountain Villa. He then uses the program to attack the Coffin in the Sky, causing a plethora of system errors for the generator and the defense systems.

At the Villa Ruins, Endeavor and Hawks are stunned as they see All For One has completely regenerated from the burnt corpse the Flame Hero reduced him to, and additionally has had the previous damage he sustained from his fights with All Might reversed to where he now has the strength and appearance of himself in his prime.

The Quirk-Destroying Drug he used to achieve this was a modified round produced by Kyudai Garaki, who refined the last remaining sample Tomura stole from Overhaul to focus on fully replicating Rewind's effects instead of just targeting someone's Quirk Factor. He stored it, an instructional audio recording, and his newest life support chamber in All For One's temporary cave hideout.

Dr. Garaki hopes his longtime associate use the Drug to help him achieve his dream as a last resort, as once he uses it, the effect will continue until he eventually rewinds out of existence. Through the tape, the Doctor says his heart misses and cherishes what All For One looked and sounded like prior to his first fight with All Might, but contrarily tells the Villain that he hopes his own is filled with nothing but pure hatred.

All For One commends Endeavor for pushing him to the point where he had to bust out his trump card, as he floats down and readjusts to his "new" body. In a flash, All For One lands and maneuvers behind the Heroes, snatches several of their capes and scarves to clothe himself, and grabs one of them by the throat and steals her Quirk before she and the others could begin to process his descent. Hawks swoops in, grabs the woman from the Villain's hold, and lays her down gently.

While All For One's currently the strongest he has been in years, he's well aware that the effects of Rewind will eventually reverse his body into nothingness. He's already passed his dream and legacy onto "Tomura", so the only thing he has left to do is eliminate their threats and reunite with his successor to help realize it.

Hawks asks if his big dream is to steal One For All, which the man debunks and explains that his real ultimate goal is something much more simple. He was inspired by the overpowering, world-conquering villains that appeared in the comic books he used to read as a young boy, and wishes to be someone like that and ruin the futures of everyone living in this current, ever-expanding world.

In the United States, Timothy Agpar is meeting with the President inside the oval office, pleading with him to send out forces to take out "Tomura" while they have the chance. The man rejects the commander's request, on the grounds of the turmoil Timothy caused by sending out the Tiamat missiles to Star and Stripe, and the reports that the Villain has evolved into an undefeatable abomination that is well past susceptible to the threat of humankind. Timothy then figures out that the President is looking to appease "Tomura" instead of fighting, following the approach that several other countries have opted for.

While the President thinks it's the best option to minimize losses and look for another opening to strike in the future, Timothy says the second anyone kneels to "Tomura" is the moment they'll be stripped of everything they have and are fighting for. He then pulls out a picture of a young Star and Stripe, back when she met All Might and David Shield after the former saved her family, and asks if what the woman fought and died for several days prior means anything at this point. Timothy says if children look up to adults as they grow, in this case Star and Stripe to All Might, then the adults should return the favor and support the children, while both parties build a bright future for whoever comes after them.

Back inside the Coffin in the Sky, Edgeshot walks up to Best Jeanist while he's still occupied try to stitch up Dynamight with his fibers, while the last remaining Heroes do their best to keep "Tomura" occupied. The Hero then begins threading his entire body into Dynamight's chest wound and tells Mirko to do everything she can to break out of "Tomura's" grip on her and attack the man, even at the risk of her life.

Edgeshot tells Best Jeanist that Dynamight has a chance of living, if he uses his own body alongside his Zenith move to replace the missing chunks of his heart and lungs, while jumpstarting the boy's circulatory and respiratory systems from the inside. Best Jeanist, who was Edgeshot's classmate and club president back in U.A., tells the man that this plan of his is suicide. Edgeshot accepts his fate, and tells his ally that he'll leave the rest to him before he fully dissolves into Dynamight to begin resuscitating him.

"Tomura" tells the men that it's futile since the boy's body has been thoroughly destroyed. He then thinks about his childhood memories and his unquenchable wish to destroy everything, and starts flying into a violent fit. Mirko breaks free and kicks "Tomura" in the face, before freeing herself from his hold at the cost of her last organic forearm being bitten off by one of the generated mouths. "Tomura" then starts to inexplicably shiver in recoil, as he realizes his last bout with Dynamight has caused him to start feeling genuine fear.

Best Jeanist then tourniquets Mirko's arm with a steel cable, as the woman leaps towards "Tomura", who is about to attack her but Lemillion appears and covers appears "Tomura's" eyes with his hands. The charging Mirko states that people die when it's their time, and after declaring she doesn't want to regret anything when she dies, she smacks "Tomura" with a Luna Rush, which causes the Villain to bleed and seemingly take significant damage for the first time in this arduous fight.

The spirit of Tenko inside "Tomura" begins to lose his mind while thinking of all the bad memories he has of his family and others before All For One took him in, as the Villain begins to detach himself from his masses of stray fingers and mouths and readapts once again.

Since his previous state was chosen in order to respond to his growing thirst for destruct, now it's morphing to help "Tomura" recover from all the damage and mental turmoil he received both from the Heroes and his corroding psychological state. "Tomura" then transforms into a more muscular build, where giant fingers shield his legs, torso, and head, while his left arm bulked up to colossal proportions and has grown heads resembling his deceased family members on its fingers.

Despite being the top-heavier form, "Tomura" is still nimble as ever, and easily knocks out Mirko, Suneater and Nejire Chan before he continues dismissing Lemillion and runs to where Dynamight is lying and being operated on, so Best Jeanist and Edgeshot won't keep undoing the thing he just destroyed.

Best Jeanist uses his carbon fibers to hold him down as Lemillion tries once again to attack but "Tomura" brushes him off like nothing and continues his charge toward Best Jeanist. Feeling powerless to stop him, Lemillion recalls Sir Nighteye's last prophecy that he would one day become a great hero and laments if this is his future he saw for him.

Lemillion and Best Jeanist then receive a telepathic message from Mandalay, informing them that the barrier is going to drop and they need to hold "Tomura" off for two seconds. "Tomura" is right on top of Best Jeanist as the message finishes, and Lemillion is frozen in terror since the situation now falls on him to distract "Tomura".

He struggles to find anything that could grab the Villain's attention for a few moments, as he's too weak to be of interest and all the other combating Heroes are out of commission. Suddenly, the final words of Sir Nighteye pop in his mind, who told him to keep smiling since there needs to be joy and laughter to balance the sorrow, as there's no hope for a bright future in this world without them.

Lemillion then phases through the ground and up into "Tomura"'s face, presenting him with a corny pun and a full view of his posterior. Despite being frightened to near tears, his impromptu stunt works, and "Tomura" stops to try and process the unexpected, crude display in front of him. The Villain then turns behind him to see something at the top of the now-downed barrier: Deku, hanging on to the poles with Blackwhip and confidently staring the man down with a fully charged round of Faux 100 Percent ready to go.

"Tomura" whispers the boy's full name, as Deku slingshots himself down and clotheslines the Villain in the face with a diving front kick, sending his opponent spinning into the air and beginning their delayed, inevitable final battle with one another.

Anime & Manga Differences#

  • When All For One acknowledges comic books as his inspiration for becoming a Villain, a flashback of Captain Hero Volumes are featured in the anime.
  • During the establishing shot of Washington D.C., the anime shows a woman walking through the ruined street. In the manga, it shows a man pinning someone on the ground with their foot in preparation to shoot them in the head with a pistol.
  • In the manga, the President of the United States is depicted as an entirely blacked-out silhouette. In the anime, only his upper face is completely blacked out.
  • In the anime, David is fully shown in the photo of All Might and Star and Stripe formally meeting each other. In the manga, only his shoulder is seen, as the rest of the photo is cut off by the panel border.
  • In the manga, Sir Nighteye's words are recalled up to the very moment Lemillion distracts "Tomura". In the anime, the recollection finishes before Lemillion phases out of the ground.
  • The anime slightly extends both "Tomura" and Lemillion's reaction to the latter's distraction.
  • The anime extends "Tomura" and Deku's reunion on the battlefield, detailing more of "Tomura's" full reaction to the boy's appearance, and depicting the entirety of Deku's opening attack instead of the end of it.
