The Story of How We All Became Heroes is the one hundred and forty-second episode of the My Hero Academia anime and the fourth episode of the seventh season.

Summary#

After Yuga hears his class' proposal that he can be their trump card in getting the jump on the Villains, Present Mic reminds the students that they're still the victims of a serious crime brought on by their classmate, and ask if they can still trust the boy. Tenya says it's all in the past now and he and the others take some responsibility for not understanding his feelings, so they prefer to reach out and help Yuga so they came become equals once more, same as they did when Izuku left U.A. to fight the other Villains alone.

As the students cheer for their regretful friend to take their offer, Naomasa tries to get them to settle down and sort this situation out rationally, only for Eraser Head to interrupt through a video call from his hospital room. He tells Naomasa that he'll take responsibility as his homeroom teacher for Yuga's actions, and that he has no intention of expelling the student due to him sharing the same sentiment as his peers. Eraser Head then proposes a plan to lure out All For One, though not before asking Naomasa to cover the Aoyamas' ears so it can't be compromised by All For One through them.

After relaying the plan to the students, faculty, and police, with a stipulation that they don't discuss the details with anyone else, the Aoyomas are taken into custody, and the students return to the dorms so they can further train for their side of the operation. Izuku and Tenya make their way to the Development Studio in order get their costumes fixed up, and are greeted with the familiar sight of the studio door blasting open and Mei landing on top of Izuku, though the boy is too tired to get super flustered about it. The students then find out that Mei is entirely unaware of the resulting chaos unleashed after the war, in part due to her heavy focus on the massive upgrades to the U.A. Barrier that Power Loader and the entire support course is handling.

Izuku shows Mei his damaged Mid-Gauntlets, and asks if she can put a rush on fixing them. She denies his request, as they're so damaged that she would essentially be remaking them from scratch, and there isn't enough "Condenium" on hand to repair its compression mechanism. When Tenya asks about repairing the armor on his costume, she also rejects his request due to a lack of costume documents to work off of.

Mei then turns back to helping upgrade the U.A. Barrier, by constantly supplying new design elements to boost the efficiency of evacuation. Izuku calls her work amazing, but Mei kindly brushes it off and says it's just the Support Course's way of heroics: working hard to invent ways to keep the Heroes and everyone safe. After suddenly throwing Izuku a makeshift hybrid of the Mid-Gauntlets and his Air Force Gloves, and Tenya a different set of armor, she tells them to tell the other Hero course students that they're going to win this.

After the two get their gear fixed, they meet up with the rest of the class outside for a briefing on their end of Eraser Head's strategy by Mt. Lady. She splits the students into teams of three, led by Izuku, Shoto, and Katsuki, and sends them to put a rush on fishing out the remnants of the Paranormal Liberation Front while the other Heroes do the same on evacuating more civilians.

At Central Hospital, Yuga is being tested for potential traps implanted into him via All For One, as All Might and Hawks inform the police, Star and Stripe's pilot crew, and Ragdoll, on the details related to their side of the operation. All Might stresses the importance of keeping Tomura and All For One separated during their fight by at least 10 kilometers, so the Heroes can properly deal with their immense strength and prevent the two from communicating through their shared consciousness or Radio Waves.

In order to achieve this, and prevent the other Villains like Dabi from interfering, All Might says they need to lure out the Villains' and split their forces up so they can be taken down effectively. While an optimistic strategy, All Might says that these conditions are very much possible, as long as Yuga agrees to cooperate with them in regards to their plan. Naomasa has his doubts considering the boy's current state and affiliation, but All Might has faith in Yuga, as well as Eraser Head to try and get through to his student on the matter.

Yuga's test comes back negative for anything alarming inside his body, and Eraser Head realizes if All For One gave the same treatment that he did Lady Nagant to all of his "associates", then he wouldn't need to use fear tactics to get Yuga to do what he orders him to. The teacher asks him what he's afraid of, and Yuga says All For One, as well as not being able to shine and support his classmates' pleas as a result of it, and would prefer crawling somewhere and dying alone instead of potentially disappointing them.

Eraser Head states that it's unlikely he'll be able to stay at U.A. when all of this is over, so all he can do now is fight for what's right. While using him in their plan to track down All For One may be unethical, as long as he's Yuga's teacher, he won't let the boy turn his back on them and promises to protect him and his classmates if he chooses to go with them.

Yuga, with some of his resolve regained, silently accepts, then asks what a criminal like him can do all by himself against the Villains. With a subtle smile, Eraser Head tells him that while his role in their move against the Villains is a daunting one, the teachers, his friends, and the other Heroes will walk alongside him without a second thought.

As the sun begins to set, two students call to their classmate in a tree: Hitoshi, who is hanging upside down by his Binding Cloth and wearing a proper Hero costume.
