Momo Yaoyorozu

ArticleSynopsisRelationshipsSource revision

Momo Yaoyorozu, also known as the Everything Hero: Creati, and called Yaomomo by her friends, was the Vice Class Representative of Class 1-A at U.A. High School, where she was one of the two students who got in through official recommendations,[4] training to become a Pro Hero.

Eight years after the Final War, Momo graduated from U.A. alongside her classmates and is the current No. 19 Hero, whilst doing plenty of research and being involved in many global projects.[5][6]

Appearance#

Momo is a tall young woman with a mature, curvaceous physique and a light skin tone. She has long black hair, generally tied into a spiky ponytail that seems to become more flowy and slightly curly at the very bottom, with a large strand hanging on the right side of her face. Her onyx-colored eyes are big yet sharp and paired with short eyebrows usually set in a determined expression.

At U.A, she wears the regular U.A. uniform for female students. It is topped with a gray dress jacket, two teal stripes, two pockets with folds, and two golden buttons. Underneath, she wears a white dress shirt, a red tie with a small, golden button, and a teal pleated skirt. She also wears brown dress shoes and knee-high black socks.

Her Hero Costume consists of a high-collared, sleeveless crimson leotard with white lines at her waist and around her arms, which is open to expose her skin from her neck to just above her navel. She sports calf-length red boots with heels, which dip sharply down in the center, two beige utility belts around her waist, with the back holding her books on composition information, and another thinner one around the top of her chest, below her shoulders. The design choice allows her to create items from as many points in her body as possible, as her Quirk can only be used if her skin is exposed.

During the winter, she wears a long, high-collared red cape over her costume with a ring around her neck and a large red gemstone at her throat.

Eight years after the end of the Final War, Momo has grown taller and wears a shorter, smoother ponytail with two of her large bangs parted on both sides of her face. Her costume has been updated so that her leotard covers her entire torso, with her back being fully open, along with her two utility belts, which are now white with black accents, and white headphones for communication purposes.

Personality#

Momo is a quite prudent and dedicated person who is also very kind, polite, and relatively reserved. Similar to Shoto Todoroki, Momo can sometimes be a bit dense when understanding certain phrases and figures of speech (such as when she took Itsuka Kendo telling her that the two were "put into the same box" by other people ever since their involvement in the commercial during their Internship with Uwabami to be literal). She is a levelheaded natural leader, staying calm in dangerous situations; though she isn't above falling into a panic and can be blunt with her comments about people's mistakes and miscalculations, tending to be very direct. Even so, she does wish to help her peers improve and for them all to become great Heroes, evidenced when she tutored her classmates at her home. Because of her wealthy upbringing, she has a sensible and respectful attitude toward others, often being discouraged by discourteous behavior.

Momo typically takes adverse situations in stride, expressing little concern for losing most of her clothing in battle, as she knows how to construct another set and would have made her costume even more revealing were it not for restrictions on exposed skin in a costume. However, this often makes others think of her as an exhibitionist, although, ironically, she is relatively innocent and sensitive to vulgarity and rude mannerisms, constantly frustrated by sexual advancements from Minoru Mineta and the crude attitude of Katsuki Bakugo. This innocence shows that she has a somewhat casual, natural, and non-lewd view toward nudity, which explains the lack of modesty in her costume.

Momo becomes upbeat and eager when excited about something, particularly spending time with her friends or helping people. Within her aforementioned excitement, she tends to reveal how rich she is accidentally, yet most people understand she doesn't boast out of arrogance or malice, but rather merely begins to get lost in rambling her thoughts. Furthermore, despite her mature mannerisms, she occasionally finds herself roped into silly situations such as cheerleading, although she rarely expresses much enthusiasm.

While initially confident in herself, Momo's pride was crushed after her rapid loss to Fumikage Tokoyami at the U.A. Sports Festival, and the comparisons she made between herself and Shoto, the other recommended student of Class 1-A. This resulted in a loss of confidence in her ability to make quick choices in practical situations, which was further damaged during Uwabami's shallow Internship. Initially thinking the Heroine chose her despite being "an unworthy student", the reality was that the Snake Hero merely chose Momo for her pretty face and proceeded to treat the girl and her fellow intern, Itsuka (who was scouted for the same superficial reason), like assistants and exploit them into filming a commercial with her. Momo tried to find more profound lessons to reassure herself with, though Itsuka commented that she was in denial about the reality of their situation.

Thanks to Shoto's encouragement during their match together in the First Term Final Exams, Momo regained confidence in her quick thinking, learning that people have different skills and can sometimes complement each other; showing further development as a selfless Hero who gets inspiration from others while once again effortlessly taking the role of a leader in her class. Thanks to the reinvigorated confidence in her skills and intelligence, Momo doesn't give up even when weakened and trapped by her opponents, demonstrating a renewed resolve, alongside an increase in her Quirk output, ultimately defeating her enemies. During her battle against Itsuka during the Joint Training Battle, it's revealed that Momo still has doubts about herself and continues to struggle with comparing herself to others, but no longer lets these things interfere with her resolve, remaining confident and capable in the face of others when challenged.

Abilities#

Overall Abilities: Being a recommended student, Momo possesses good combat skills. Her abilities earned her 1st place in the Quirk Apprehension Test, an impressive feat considering that almost all of her classmates had at least one superhuman result, which was cumulative of all eight tests. Momo held her own against Fumikage for a short period during the Sports Festival and did the same against Itsuka in the second match of the Joint Training Battle, though she lost in both instances.

On Nabu Island, Momo and Yuga Aoyama acted as the first line of defense against Nine, Slice, and Chimera, with Yuga unleashing the full power of his Navel Laser, and Momo creating two large cannons, all to barrage the Villain trinity into separating from each other. Soon after, an exhausted Momo helped an equally overtaxed Yuga initiate a surprise attack on Nine from behind, but the undeterred villain used his Air Wall Quirk to trounce the fatigued duo. Her abilities eventually garnered the attention of the Magic Hero: Majestic, allowing Momo to intern under the (now deceased) top-grade Pro Hero, alongside Class 1-B recommended student Setsuna Tokage, and improve her predictive skills and ability to act efficiently.

Genius Intellect: Momo is ranked S-class in intelligence, meaning she can be considered a genius. Her analytical skills are vital, efficiently devising strategies and plans in battle and urgent situations, which she has no trouble putting in motion due to her Quirk's versatility. Academically speaking, Momo is highly efficient, having been ranked 1st place in the midterms of her class,[7] and understanding the composition of anything she wishes to create using her Quirk. The latter is a complicated task for even the simplest materials.

Regardless, Momo commonly uses the objects from her Quirk to provide auxiliary support for her allies and blindside her opponents, making her a very crafty individual and reliable comrade. She makes up for what she lacks in raw strength and destructive power with her ingenuity. When Momo was paired with Shoto against Eraser Head for the First Term Final Exam, Momo realized that the Eraser Hero's Erasure Quirk has a smaller time limit due to the injury he received from Nomu, and capitalized on that small interval to blindside Eraser Head and secure victory for her and Shoto.

During the second round of the Joint Training Battle, Momo demonstrated her ability to anticipate unexpected circumstances; she took notice of the opposing team having a two-fold plan. Shoto even stated that thinking and planning under pressure or in times of crisis is Momo's area of expertise. She also has good judgment, fully aware that once Itsuka took the match to her strong suit, close-quarters combat, Momo wouldn't stand a chance.

Even when overpowered by Itsuka, Momo effectively blindsided the big-fisted heroine by creating a cannon at point-blank range, making it look like she would fire it at the latter. Taking advantage of Itsuka's startled reaction, Momo quickly turned the cannon in another direction and fired her lucky bag over the wall of letters to give extra support to her teammates. Even though Momo assisted her teammates, she was incapacitated by Itsuka, but not before the recommended student managed to tie herself to the latter before losing consciousness.

During the events of the Paranormal Liberation War, Momo devised a plan, which was executed with the help of her peers from both Class A and Class B, to trap and stall the mighty Gigantomachia for a time and successfully deliver an anesthetic into the giant's mouth, which was crucial to his takedown later in the Liberation War.

  • Leadership Skills: Momo is stated to be a natural leader and has shown herself as such. During the Joint Training Battle, Momo was considered the Class A-2's primary strategist and took point on instructing the team. Itsuka even prioritized separating Momo from the rest of her teammates so their coordination would falter. During the Paranormal Liberation War, Momo once again took point in leading her peers, this time from both First Year Hero Course Classes, and rallied them together to face the nigh-unstoppable approaching force.
  • Teaching Ability: Momo is considered a perfect tutor by her peers, holding several study classes for other members of Class 1-A. The results have been noticeable judging by the U.A.'s First Term Final Exam, where none of the low-grade students failed the written exam.[7]
  • Musical Talent: Having undergone etiquette training during childhood, Momo can play the piano and other key-based instruments.

Indomitable Will: Though not as notable or shown quite as often as someone like her classmate Izuku Midoriya, when the situation calls for it, Momo displays exceptional willpower. When facing Gigantomachia alongside the rest of the Trainees in the Paranormal Liberation War, Momo, despite her fears, rallied her fellow U.A. students to face the supposedly unstoppable enemy approaching them. This resolve allowed her anesthetic to be delivered successfully into Machia's system, as Momo and her classmates continued to fight despite setbacks in the initial strategy.

Quirk#

Creation: Momo's Quirk gives her the ability to create any non-living material/object from her exposed skin by transforming the molecular structure of her fat cells. To create something, she needs to understand the molecular structure of what the material/object is made of.

The more Momo eats, the more material she has to work with, so she needs considerable food ingestion for her Quirk to be effective. However, it takes her a longer period and more skin exposure to create larger or more complex objects, to the point where she is occasionally forced to have large objects burst through her costume, leaving it shredded, though she has shown herself to be able to repair it with ease.

The aspect of Momo's Quirk that she constantly burns her fat to create objects is likely the reason for her slim figure. However, this can also be a significant weakness because if she generates too much without replacing her calories, she can become weak and anemic.

As part of her training, Momo consumed large amounts of food whilst using her power to increase her Quirk's efficacy and reduce the time needed to create objects.

Ultimate Moves#

Stats#

Equipment#

Hero Outfit: Momo's hero outfit allows her to expose as much of her skin as possible so that she can use her Creation Quirk much more easily.

  • The Yaoyoleotard: Her leotard makes it easier for Momo to create, as it leaves most of her skin exposed so she can pop out large items.
  • The Yaoyoro-Belt: This equipment is a bit thick in order to prop up her "Yaoyorictionary".
  • The Yaoyorictionary: This equipment is made of lexicon compiling all the constructs and materials that come up to Momo's mind. It also has magnets attached to the cover and inside pages so that it doesn't open or fall.

Trivia#

  • Momo's design in the preliminary stages of the series was relatively similar to her current design. She already had her trademark ponytail, although it was less spiky, and her body overall was slightly slimmer. Her Hero Costume had a few differences though, such as the lack of a torso opening and a sort of partial mask worn around her nose area.
  • According to Momo's Volume 2 profile:
  • Her favorite thing is reading, especially illustrated encyclopedias.
  • Kohei Horikoshi clarifies that Momo can't create living beings, correcting a previous statement that claimed Momo couldn't produce organic material, as creating things such as clothes and an insulation sheet would be impossible without organic matter.
  • Momo's Quirk was originally going to belong to a Pro Hero, but Horikoshi thought that such an overpowered ability would be more interesting if handled by an inexperienced character.
  • According to her Ultra Analysis profile:
  • After becoming friends with Kyoka Jiro, she became a fan of heavy metal music.
  • Her personality described her as an "occasional screwup".
  • Momo's surname contains the kanji for "eight", "one hundred", and "ten thousand", and her first name contains "hundred".
  • Put together, the kanji for Momo's surname is an idiomatic expression that translates to "a great/uncountable number", and it literally means "eight million".
  • Momo was slightly censored by Kyoka's Earphone Jack during the U.S.J. Incident, due to her clothes tearing when she created the insulated sheet for her and Kyoka so Denki could use his Quirk freely without injuring them.
  • Momo's rankings for the Popularity Polls are as following:
  • Ranked 11th in the First Popularity Poll.
  • Ranked 13th in the Second Popularity Poll.
  • Ranked 14th in the Third Popularity Poll.
  • Ranked 7th in the Fourth Popularity Poll.
  • Ranked 10th in the Fifth Popularity Poll.
  • Ranked 12th in the Sixth Popularity Poll.
  • Ranked 14th in the Seventh Popularity Poll.
  • Momo's known U.A. academic data is as follows:
  • Student No. 20 of Class 1-A.
  • Ranked 1st in Quirk Apprehension Test.
  • Ranked 1st in Class 1-A's mid-term grades.[7]
  • Ranked in the Top 16 of the U.A. Sports Festival First-Year Stage.
  • Momo received a total of 108 nominations from Pro Heroes for her U.A. Sports Festival performance, making her the 6th most nominated Class 1-A student.
  • Scored 94 in the Provisional Hero License Exam.
  • This score is the highest of the known ones out of all examinees.
  • Momo is the tallest female student in Class 1-A, measuring at 173 centimeters.
  • In Chapter 124, Momo broke the fourth wall when she pointed out that Mirio Togata only needed three panels to explain the Hero Internship.
  • Momo would have made her costume even more revealing were it not for restrictions on the amount of skin allowed to be shown in a costume.[8]
  • Momo, Minoru Mineta, Mina Ashido, and Tsuyu Asui all share the same costume designer.[9]
  • Momo's favorite tea brand is Makaibari.[10]
  • Momo's English voice actor, Colleen Clinkenbeard, acted as the English voice director for the first six seasons of the anime, the first three movies, and the OVAs.
  • Clinkenbeard also voices one of Katsuki's friends as a child.[11]

Quotes#

  • (To her classmates) "We've got to start at the bottom and work up! And if we don't earnestly cheer each other on... we'll never be top Heroes!"[12]
  • (To Tenya Ida, Izuku Midoriya, Eijiro Kirishima, and Shoto Todoroki) "I trust you, Todoroki, but worse comes to worst, I should be their backup, which is why I'm coming too."[13]
