Synopsis#
“Next, it’s your turn!”
In a society where heroes and villains continuously battle in the name of peace and chaos, Deku, a U.A. High School student who aspires to be the best hero he can be, confronts the villain who imitates the hero he’s long admired. Can Deku and the rest of U.A. High Class 1-A protect the world by putting an end to Dark Might, the man claiming to be the new Symbol of Peace?
Summary#
Prologue#
In a very dark, confined room, a masked man, stares at a television, re-watching the broadcast of the final battle between the Symbol of Peace: All Might and the leader of the League of Villains: All For One at Kamino in Japan. His walls are framed with many All Might pictures from the "young age" to the "golden age"; in one of his pictures, there is a woman with her father.
The fight concludes with All Might defeating All For One with his most powerful Ultimate Move: United States of Smash, leaving him victoriously standing up as people cheered him on. The masked man also cheers in praise for All Might prevailing against the most evil person on the planet.
The man then sees All Might pointing at the camera screen, declaring "Next, it's your turn". He interprets this message to himself, convinced that it is now his turn to take the mantle of "Symbol of Peace", and he declares that he will take his place and become All Might's successor.
Act 1: Chaos Reigns#
Japan has entered a chaotic state of unrest as a result of the Paranormal Liberation War, between the destruction it caused, the many villains that have broken out of prisons and been wreaking havoc on the streets after All For One's escape from Tartarus, and the significant decrease in heroes after many died or retired in the aftermath. With many civilians no longer trusting the authorities and heroes, they have started to arm themselves with weapons and support items to defend against the amok villains.
While reflecting on the current state of everything, two armed civilians notice a young man with an eyepatch conspicuously drinking coffee in the middle of the danger zone. One of them comments that he's looking for someone, to which his companion replies that he'll hardly find anyone given the current conditions of the country. Suddenly, a siren sounds and a radio reports that a group of villains has appeared in the western district. Upon hearing this, the young man gathers his things and immediately gets on his motorcycle to head to the scene.
In one of the makeshift refugee centers in a town, numerous villains ransack every supply they can get their hands on, with one of the villains using their Quirk to transform into a truck to hijack it. The civilians try to fight back, but their support item weapons are useless against the villains who escape with their supplies.
Deku of the U.A. High School Heroes Course leads Team 3 of Class 1-A, consisting of Uravity, Cellophane, Earphone Jack, Invisible Girl, and Tailman, to intercept the hijacking. Deku attacks the villains and stops their hijacking with Fa Jin combined with Float, Blackwhip, and Danger Sense to disarm and remove the villain who transformed himself into the truck. Team 3 arrives to help apprehend the rest of the villains, and praises Deku for his mastery of One For All. As they take the criminals into custody, Deku spots the eyepatched man from atop a destroyed highway before he drives off somewhere.
Team 3 makes contact with Team 1 and 2 of 1-A at a police station, who've also apprehended more villains and escapees. Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight leads Team 1, consisting of Pinky, Tsukuyomi, Red Riot, Anima, and Sugarman. Shoto is in charge of Team 2 consisting of Ingenium, Creati, Grape Juice, Chargebolt, Froppy, and Tentacole. The teams have been travelling around Japan in an attempt to quell the chaos, defeat any threats, and track down any jailbreakers.
Dynamight boasts that his team has managed to capture one more villain than Deku's team, but is upset to hear that Shoto's team has captured more villains than them. Calling him by his full hero name, Ingenium reminds Dynamight that numbers aren't the important thing, and Cellophane comments on how childish the hero's name is, which bothers Dynamight. The conversation is interrupted when they are informed by Hawks from the command center at U.A. that the villain and jailbreaker Ginji Kurau has been spotted in the West Harbor, so everyone heads to the site.
At the port, Ginji is running away with a woman, Anna Scervino, in his hand. He boasts about having taken Anna from them, as she is the key to making him invincible. The girl protests, saying he lied about freeing her, but Ginji doesn't pay attention to her complaints. Team 3 arrives on the scene to arrest him, but he escapes using his Quirk, Mad Gluttony, to rip through several buildings before they can corner him.
Deku goes on ahead, noticing that Ginji looks different than his profile, as he has extra mouth-like appendages, and also that he has a hostage. After dodging the villain's attacks, he catches up to them both. When Deku tries to grab Anna's hand, she refuses, and just as Deku grazes her, he suddenly sees visions of roses around him, which causes him to temporarily suffer a convulsing pain and falls over, before going back after them.
Ginji crashes into a refugee camp, where he easily defeats the civilians who try to confront him with his mouths. He decides to take another hostage, but Deku appears and tries to restrain Ginji with his Blackwhip. Suddenly, Ginji grows new appendages and becomes more powerful after holding Anna next to him, allowing him to nearly overwhelm Deku.
Deku is taken out of the building, although he continues to hold the villain with Blackwhip. Before Ginji could counter-attack, the eyepatch man, Giulio Gandini, appears and shoots at Ginji from the long distance, causing him to let go of Anna. He rides his motorcycle and his arm transforms into a gun to take another shot, this time at Anna. Despite this, the girl remains still, waiting for the shot.
Giulio shoots at Anna, with Deku unable to save her. Suddenly, a bubble that slows down time appears over Anna, stopping the bullet, followed by a man appearing, commenting how it was a close call. Without knowing who he is and what is happening, Ginji tries to take Anna again, but as he enters the bubble, his movements also slow down.
Giulio shoots at Anna more times, but all the bullets slow down once they enter the bubble. Giulio tries to shoot more again, but Deku restrains him with Blackwhip, demanding an explanation; Giulio grabs a revolver and holds Deku at gunpoint, but Danger Sense doesn't activate, indicating to him he's not a real threat.
The man who created the Delay Spot bubble, Bruno Gollini, collects Anna for himself, just before the rest of Team 3 arrives to assist Deku. However, they suddenly find themselves confronted with a floating ship carrying the Gollini Family Mafia, consisting of Bruno, Kamile, Deborah, Paulo, Simon, Ugo, Gil, and their leader, Valdo. Said leader undoes his mask, revealing that he has the appearance of All Might in his prime, shocking everyone and causing Deku's Danger Sense to go into overdrive.
Upon regaining consciousness, Anna tries to resist after being taken onto the ship, but Deborah uses her Quirk, Day Dream, to subdue her. The fake All Might expresses his concern for Anna and asks her not to leave again. Mind-controlled, Anna thanks him for rescuing her. Deborah mocks Paulo for allowing her to escape, to which he replies that it won't happen again. Kamile then uses his Spatial Excursion Quirk to get Bruno and Anna onto the boat.
Giulio tries to go after them but continues to be held by Deku, whom he orders to let go. The rest of Team 3 wonders what's going on, until Uravity realizes that Ginji has taken advantage of the confusion to escape. The villain causes collateral damage to many buildings and civilians as he runs away. Deku is forced to release Giulio and the team breaks off engaging Ginji to rescue the civilians who were about to be crushed by debris.
While this is happening, Guilio accelerates his motorcycle to the maximum to jump down from a building to the floating boat, shooting as he descends, but Bruno creates a large bubble that slows him down, and Ugo uses his Telekinesis Quirk to throw debris towards him, hurdling him into a building.
Ginji is about to escape when Valdo gets in his way, commenting that he is furious that he tried to take Anna after discovering that he was compatible with her. Ginji charges at him but Valdo easily defeats the empowered Ginji with a single punch, mimicking the same devastating power of All Might when he had One For All.
After crashing through a footbridge, Ginji lands unconscious next to Deku, who is in shock seeing how the All Might impersonator brutalized him, and how his reckless attack endangered everyone around them. Valdo then introduces himself to Deku, assuring him that the villain got what he deserved for betraying him, and that he will be the next Symbol of Peace since he is now like All Might. Looking at him with disgust for his actions and claims, Deku does not understand what he means, so Valdo simply decides to explain his goal.
Using his Alchemy Quirk, Valdo tosses up several coins, creating a microphone and several cameras and drones, hacking into every communication network that are still functioning in the country, with everyone being shocked by his appearance, in particular the real All Might. He announces to the country that he is the new All Might and he has come to "save" Japan from their despair caused by the war, and vowed that he would use his strength and power to promote justice and become the next Symbol of Peace.
Deku calls him out with disgust over using violence and putting innocent civilians in danger, something the real All Might would never do. He tells him that he is not a real hero, and that all he does is taint All Might's legacy. Hearing his words, Valdo decides to prove Deku wrong by using his powers.
Valdo boards the flying ship and touches the hypnotized Anna, which greatly amplifies the power of his Quirk. He then throws hundreds of coins which begin to create a cloud of light that starts to absorb everything and everyone around the ship. Team 3 tries to flee with as many civilians as they can carry, but are helpless after the transformation ocean catches up to them, with Deku consumed as well.
Teams 1 and 2, who just arrived in the area, witness the rapid expansion of the transformation. Shoto tries to block the expansion with his ice from his Half-Cold Half-Hot Quirk, but the light simply phases through and consumes Team 2. Team 1 attempts to flee from the city in their truck, despite Dynamight's protests of running away, but they too are soon caught by the transforming light.
All Might hurries over to the U.A. Headquarters where he meets with Hawks, Best Jeanist, and other heroes, learning of the situation. Completely amazed, they witness through the headquarters' screens how the cloud of light grows larger and begins to take shape, turning into a massive All Might-themed floating fortress which Valdo dubs Symbol of Paradise. Once the fortress is created, it leaves a massive crater in the ground.
All Might is stunned by what he just saw until Hawks informs him that they have been able to identify the group as the Gollini Family Mafia, the most dangerous crime syndicate in Europe that even other heroes outside the country were cautious to approach, realizing that anyone who is a target of them will be in mortal danger.
Act 2: The Fortress of Dark Might#
Once the fortress is complete, the Class 1-A teams regain consciousness and end up in different areas of the fortress. Deku and the rest of Team 3 wake up in a jungle-like environment, though Deku quickly notices that the trees and vegetation aren't real, and that there are no birds or insects, leading him to deduce that Fake All Might's Quirk is, to some extent, similar to Creati's Creation Quirk, as he cannot create non-living matter.
Tailman informs his teammates that there's no signal, so they can't communicate with anyone. Meanwhile, Earphone Jack reports that there's no one else in the area besides them. Deku decides that the first thing they should do is confirm the status of the people who were absorbed before escaping from the place.
Elsewhere, Dynamight and Team 1 are confused when they end up at an amusement park where the rides are working. At the same time, Shoto and Team 2 find themselves walking through a field until they see a European-looking city in the distance, where a huge statue of All Might stands out. With no other options, they decide to check the place out.
Meanwhile, after conjuring a majestic palace for him and the Gollini Family, with Anna in his possession, Valdo makes a personal call to All Might and the Counter-Force at the U.A. Shelter, seeking All Might's blessing to become the next Symbol of Peace. All Might asks Valdo why he is doing this, and Valdo tells him that he only came because when he saw the despair and destruction left behind from the war and after he retired from being a hero, he sought to help those in need, believing only through strength and power can he achieve the peace he wanted, recalling to him on his "You're Next" broadcast.
All Might demands for him to release the civilians that were caught up by his web in the transformation, but Valdo refuses, as he claims he needs the "test subjects" to perfect his ideal future as the new "symbol". All Might reprimands Valdo for taking his ideals and twisting it in such a dark way that would harm the innocents, vehemently expressing his disapproval.
Valdo is initially shocked to hear this but decides to twist this around further and dub himself "Dark Might". All Might further reveals that he has already chosen his successor, and it's those in Class 1-A in the fortress that will be the ones to stop him. Dark Might is excited to meet his successor and ends the call.
Now as Dark Might, he wants to know which student of Class 1-A is All Might's successor and decides to test them to see which one is worthy of being a challenge. Using video cameras to observe all the different biomes in the fortress, he also notices that Giulio is inside as well. He initially intends to ignore him, but Paulo volunteers to dispose of him, to make up for accidentally losing Anna earlier. Dark Might agrees to his request, but warns him that this is his last chance to redeem himself.
Dark Might instructs each of the family to have their Quirks enhanced through Anna, and with each family empowered, they can now begin their next phase. Kamile uses his Quirk, Spatial Excursion, to begin moving the fortress, as it pushes itself forward across cities, consuming everything in their vicinity.
Team 3 walks through the jungle until Deku crashes into a realistically painted wall. They think they've reached a dead end, but Invisible Girl discovers a manhole. However, they can't see the way down, so Deku and Uravity volunteer to investigate. Deku descends first using Float, with Uravity following him using Zero Gravity. Suddenly, once he gets far down enough, his Quirk stops working, forcing him to hold on with his own strength and tells Uravity to return up and ask Cellophane to shoot down Tape, since something is preventing him from using his powers.
Deku deduces someone must be using a Quirk that seems to work like Eraser Head's Erasure Quirk, but before he can understand how, he loses his grip and falls down the deep hole, landing in a snowy, mountainous area, becoming a snowball, then dropping into a lake. On the upper floor, Uravity explains to her teammates what happened, and Cellophane decides to extend his Tape, so they can make it down without using their Quirks, although it will take a while.
Deku emerges from the lake, noticing that he still can't use his Quirks. While getting his bearings, he stumbles upon Giulio, who acts initially hostile toward him for interfering with his mission earlier. Realizing that he can't help him get out, Giulio tells Deku to get lost, but the student wants to know why he tried to kill the girl. Responding that it's none of his business, Giulio pulls out a revolver and neutralizes a Gollini goon who was behind Deku with a shock bullet.
At that precise moment, they are ambushed by several Gollini Family henchmen, who fire at them, forcing them to take cover behind a rock. Giulio asks Deku to do something, but he timidly replies that he can't use his Quirks right now. With Deku powerless, Giulio takes matters into his own hands: he kicks Deku out from behind the rock to use him as bait to get the guns aimed away from him while he makes a diversion.
With the thugs distracted by Deku, Giulio manages to get close to them without them noticing and quickly neutralizes them. Giulio interrogates the henchmen about Anna's whereabouts, but gets no information from them, so he electrocutes them until they are unconscious and walks to his motorcycle to leave the place. Deku helps him lift it and the two decide to leave together.
In the meantime, Shoto and Team 2 stumble upon a town center where they see many bodies of unconscious civilians and rose petals. They see Deborah and Anna with a line of civilians who are under the effects of Deborah's Day Dream, with each civilian touching Anna, before convulsing in pain and lying unconscious. The hero students run to help them, but Deborah notices their presence and uses her Quirk on them, causing the team to fall into a dream-like coma where they desire.
Shoto envisions a happy childhood with his family, playing catch with his siblings Toya, Natsuo, and Fuyumi back in their home, with their parents Enji and Rei watching them all. Tenya envisions himself as a hero alongside his brother Tensei, Denki and Minoru dream of their own harem, Momo dreams of drinking fine tea, Tsuyu is singing in the rain with her family, and Mezo dreams of the little girl he saved in his youth. Deborah decides to let them enjoy their dreams for the moment before checking if they are compatible with Anna's power.
Elsewhere, Dynamight and Team 1 leave the amusement park and head into a building, encountering Dark Might along the way, who shows up in very flashy masquerade costumes. The villain explains that people admired All Might for his great power, and that he has decided to test them to prove they are worthy of joining his organization once he becomes his successor.
Dynamight replies that other than his physical appearance, he bears absolutely no resemblance to All Might, which infuriates Dark Might, who opens a hole under Dynamight and company's feet, sending them to an underground dungeon where Simon is waiting for them. He uses his Quirk, Monster Summon, to conjure multiple creatures. The students start fighting these monsters while Simon watches them on several screens, eagerly waiting to see who is going to survive the battle.
Back with Deku and Giulio, both are riding on the latter's motorcycle. They use a device from one of the henchmen, revealing a hidden passage behind some boulders. As they drive through a tunnel, Giulio confesses that those henchmen were probably after him, as he was after Anna's life. Deku wants to know why he's trying to kill the girl, but is interrupted when they are attacked by missiles.
The two manage to escape the tunnel unscathed, emerging onto a beach where Paulo and a couple of henchmen are waiting for them. Giulio fires at them with his weapon cannon, but the henchmen are able to use their Quirks, so defend themselves and counterattack. This surprises Deku, since the previous thugs they faced only attacked them with firearms.
Paulo asks Giulio why he is trying to kill Anna, and he replies that it is because he had promised her, which makes the Gollini member realize he worked for the Scervino Family. Giulio warns them not to use Anna's Quirk because they don't know how dangerous it is, but Paulo says it's not possible, as Anna is an asset that will allow Dark Might to achieve his ideal. Understanding that he won't be able to convince them otherwise, Giulio resumes the shootout.
Deku realizes that Paulo is the one causing his Quirk not to function using his own Quirk, Erasure Spot, which allows him to conjure a bubble field to disable Quirks, and a smaller bubble for him and his henchmen to use their Quirks. He is able to deduce his weak spot and, together with Giulio, Deku reaches the location to re-activate his Quirk and defeats Paulo with Manchester Smash.
The victory is short-lived, as Dark Might appears on a balcony on one of the walls of the place, accompanied by Kamile. Dark Might notes that Deku can use multiple Quirks, and realizes that he is probably the successor All Might mentioned.
Deku attacks with Full Cowl, but Dark Might effortlessly blocks it and then defeats Deku with his Ultimate Move, Bologna Smash, punching right into Deku's face, sending him flying into the mountain and knocking him unconscious; Giulio quickly rushes over and catches him before he smacks the ground.
Dark Might then conjures monsters from the ground, who grab the defeated Paulo, and the three are lifted up by Kamile. Dark Might admonishes his lackey for failing once again. Paulo is crying in fear and begs his boss for mercy, but Dark Might replies he hopes he comes back to his side in his next life and drops Paulo from an incredibly high point down into a pit he created, where a crushing sound is heard as he falls into it.
After this, Dark Might leaves with Kamile and his creatures, asking Giulio to tell Deku that he can continue challenging him until he finally decides to follow him. As he walks down the corridor, Dark Might notices Deku managed to get a scratch on his face with his attack, which he fixes while angrily noting Deku needs to be strictly re-educated.
While this happening, the rest of Team 3 use Cellophane's Tape to descend the manhole that Deku fell in, and they too end up on the top of a snowy mountain. However, as soon as they set foot on the mountain, the grounds open up below them, that leads them directly into the town center, immediately confronted by Deborah who makes them fall to her Quirk.
Meanwhile, back in the dungeon where Dynamight's team is trapped, a disappointed Simon loses sight of them on his monitors, figuring none of them managed to survive. Suddenly the wall behind him is destroyed, as Dynamight and his team managed to reach him by brute forcing their way through the walls.
An outraged Simon protests that they have broken the rules of the game, but Dynamight silences him by pulling the pin on his Grenadier Bracers, unleashing a large Explosion at point-blank range. After being defeated, Dark Might promptly drops Simon into a pit as well, summoning more monsters to try and eliminate Team 1 himself.
Deku manages to regain consciousness and is being carried by Giulio on his motorcycle as they make their way to the town center, where they witness all the unconscious civilians and hero students lying there. After realizing that Deborah and Dark Might have been using the civilians to see how many are compatible with Anna, Deborah proceeds to hypnotize Deku and Giulio as well.
Under Deborah's Day Dream, Izuku finds himself back in his youth, surrounded by his All Might memorabilia. Suddenly, All Might appears out of nowhere and starts having fun with child Izuku, as they start to play act being heroes. However, Yoichi Shigaraki's Vestige then appears and tells Izuku that what he's experiencing isn't what he really wants. This breaks the illusion, and Izuku, back to his normal self, is suddenly transported onto a street, where he can see his classmates dreaming as well, stuck in a house structure where each room is a student's dream.
Deku finds himself surrounded by the remaining Vestiges of One For All: Toshitsugu Kudo, Bruce Lee, Hikage Shinomori, Daigoro Banjo, En Tayutai, and Nana Shimura. They tell him that everyone affected by Day Dream are interconnected with each other. Before disappearing, they warn him that he needs to wake up from this dream reality.
Deku then spots a small mansion on a hill overlooking an ocean. He sees Giulio, during a time when he wasn't with a prosthetic arm and leg, acting as Anna's butler. He serves her tea by the balcony, and Anna asks Giulio to join her, which he declines as he says he's simply just a butler. Anna pouts but then experiences some kind of pain due to her Quirk, with Giulio calming her down by placing his right hand on her an using his Quirk. He declares he will never leave her side.
Suddenly, Anna goes into a frenzy and begins to strangle him. In reality, Deborah attempts to have one of the bystanders strangle Giulio to death while he is hypnotized, which Deku witnesses as Anna continues to do so in the dream world. Deku calls out to Giulio, who notices that his right arm is real again, which makes him realize that he is in an illusion.
Thanks to his prosthetic eye, he is able to see through Deborah's deception and turns his right robotic arm gun toward her, shooting her in the shoulder. This causes her Quirk to cease functioning, breaking her hold on all the people who were hypnotized by her Day Dream. Wounded, Deborah is unable to understand how he managed to escape her illusion.
Anna regains herself and sees Giulio for the first time. At first, she is happy to see him, but then, Giulio turns his gun arm at her, as she seemingly accepts her fate. Giulio looks pained as he does so but pulls the trigger; however Deku intervenes and diverts his gun into the air, causing him to miss shooting her. Enraged, Giulio asks why he's standing in his way, and Deku replies that he couldn't just stand there and do nothing.
Before Giulio can answer, Kamile appears from the walls and uses his Quirk to take Deborah and Anna with him, fleeing through a door that soon disappears. Giulio angrily berates Deku as a wannabe hypocritical hero who knows nothing of suffering. Deku says he can't let him kill Anna because he looked like he was in pain when doing so. Giulio finally explains everything about Anna, how her Quirk works, and the Gollini Family.
A while ago, Giulio was the butler for the wealthy Scervino Family. He was hired by Anna's father to help with her Quirk, Overmodification, which allows her to greatly enhance the Quirk Factors of anyone she physically touches in any way, but only to certain compatible people, while others who are not compatible will experience intense seizures, which she herself is also victim to. Giulio's Quirk, Neutralization, allows him to temporarily neutralize her Quirk by touching her with his right arm, allowing her to finally receive something resembling a healthy lifestyle, after spending years isolated away.
At first, the effects were only harmless enough for Anna to be free, but as she got older, her Quirk has already reached Quirk Singularity, making Giulio's Neutralization harder to use on her, and soon, his Quirk won't be able to nullify it anymore. Because of her dangerous ability, Anna made Giulio promise to kill her if she ever reaches the point of no return when her Quirk becomes unstable and hurts people; Giulio vows to do that for Anna to end her suffering.
However, sometime after All Might's final battle with All For One, the Gollini Family learned of Anna's Quirk, and attacked the household to kidnap her, killing the entire Scervino family, including Anna's father. Giulio tried to save her, but he was severely wounded after the attack and was helpless as they took her away.
Because of his injuries, his right arm, right eye, and left leg were replaced with robotic prosthetics, and his own Quirk has been rendered unusable since it relies on him using his right arm. Giulio tracked Anna to Japan and wants to fulfill the promise he made to her, but because she used her Quirk on so many people in the fortress, she is going through her Quirk Singularity which will not only destroy everyone in the fortress, but also the entire country and herself included.
Deku and Class 1-A voice their objection that killing Anna will end her suffering, and even if it does, they know that it is not what she and Giulio want. They understand that Giulio went through so much to get Anna back, and they are not going to let her Quirk grow out of control, vowing to save Anna from her Quirk, and Giulio himself.
Dynamight and Team 1 then blow their way out of the dungeon and into the town after defeating Dark Might's puppet monsters, declaring that they're not going to let anyone die while they're still going to be heroes, vowing to crush the villains.
Act 3: The Battle of All Might's Successors#
In his throne room, Dark Might admonishes Deborah for failing him, and although he grants her another chance, since he needs her to keep Anna under control, Dark Might also subtly threatens Deborah by reminding her of what happened to Paulo and Simon for letting him down.
Dark Might reflects on All Might's words. Despite his weakened state, he remains a person with admirable willpower, but now lacks the physical power to pursue his ideals. Thinking of the students of Class 1-A, Dark Might decides that the past must be destroyed by the new to break their spirits. To that end, Dark Might has Kamile change course from gathering cities to the U.A. Shelter, where All Might and most of the heroes and civilians are, so he can destroy them all and become the only one standing in his ambitions of becoming the Symbol of Peace.
The Counter-Force at U.A. notice the fortress' change in direction, and realize it is heading right towards the school. Principal Nezu states that the U.A. Barrier is essential for the fight against Tomura Shigaraki, and that it needs to be protected at all costs. Endeavor, accompanied by Ryukyu, Mirko, and Edgeshot, assures him that they will gather all the heroes possible and build a defense line against the fortress.
Inside the fortress, the U.A. students prepare to evacuate the citizens when Dark Might broadcasts to everyone that he will become the Symbol of Peace when he destroys the last remaining heroes still at the U.A., and then he will create a new era in which he will be the one they can trust.
Upon hearing this, Dynamight orders most of Class 1-A to take action and start evacuating the civilians as quickly as possible, while he, Deku, Shoto, and Tsukuyomi move towards the palace to defeat Dark Might.
As the Symbol of Paradise continues its advance, the Gollini Family watch on monitors as a group of heroes, led by Endeavor, are on the outskirts of the city to stage a counter-attack against the fortress. Sitting on his throne, Dark Might mocks their efforts, while All Might, who is flying overhead in a helicopter, wishes them luck.
Endeavor fires a full blast of his Prominence Burn at maximum fire, but they learn that the fortress repairs itself from any external damages they inflict. Although Endeavor's attack has not had the desired effect, Hawks reports that an ace hero has managed to infiltrate the structure to help the students.
Inside the moving fortress, while Class 1-A are evacuating civilians, the students notice the explosion caused by Endeavor's attack and decide to guide people to the place where it occurred. Lemillion then shows up, as he was able to easily infiltrate the fortress with his Permeation, and helps direct everyone towards a better way out.
While Deku, Dynamight, Shoto, and Tsukuyomi head to face Dark Might, they realize that Giulio is following them with his motorcycle. Dynamight orders him to return to the others, but Giulio refuses, claiming that he is the one who best knows how Anna's Quirk works, so he can use his knowledge to assist them, and also wanting Deku to keep his promise about seeing him smile again.
The students and Giulio arrive at an underground amphitheater where Dark Might's golem monsters start to emerge from everywhere. The five confront them, but Tsukuyomi tells the others to continue while he stays behind to fend the creatures off using Dark Shadow, going into Total Release.
Outside the town, Lemillion guides the citizens to the agreed exit, but he then notices thousands of monsters conjured by the fortress appearing to stop them, so Class 1-A volunteers to cover the civilians and fight the monsters while Lemillion escorts the civilians to safety.
Deku, Dynamight, Shoto, and Giulio reach the front gate of Dark Might's palace, but Ugo and Gil are already waiting for them. Dynamight and Shoto volunteer to stay behind and deal with them while Deku and Giulio move in to extract Anna from the palace. Deku and Giulio jump over the wall with the latter's motorcycle, and before Ugo and Gil can stop them, they start teleporting from one place to another to avoid Dynamight and Shoto's attacks.
Deku and Giulio are greeted by Dark Might, with a entranced Anna at his side, and he taunts them to rescue her. Despite Deku's warnings, Giulio rushes to save Anna, but Bruno walks in and uses Delay Spot to slowdown Giulio's movements, while Deku stays out of range just in time. Bruno walks towards Giulio, pushing him aside as he moves forward so he can very slowly start to fall off his motorcycle.
In order to defeat Bruno, Deku uses his Faux 100 Percent to catapult himself through the bubble. Bruno considers that what he is trying to do is useless, but to his dismayed surprise, he realizes too late that Deku has gained enough speed to not be considerably slowed down by his Quirk, causing him to crash into the villain, knocking him out.
With Bruno defeated, his bubble stops working. As a result, Giulio loses control of his motorcycle and has an accident; although he fortunately escapes unscathed, his vehicle is destroyed. Giulio manages to see Dark Might escaping with Anna to the upper floors of the flying fortress, so he and Deku pursue them.
Meanwhile, Dynamight and Shoto continue dealing with Ugo and Gil. Dynamight attacks them with his Explosion Quirk as Shoto does with his Half-Cold Half-Hot Quirk, but the duo of villains proves to be formidable opponents working together thanks to Ugo's Quirk, Telekinesis, who throws debris at them, while Gil teleports away to avoid being hit by the students' attacks with his Teleportation Quirk.
Elsewhere, the remaining Class 1-A students continue to fight against hordes of Dark Might's golems, but no matter how many of them they defeat, more of these artificial beings appear to replace the defeated ones. Despite everything, they persevere to keep the citizens safe.
Outside the Symbol of Paradise, Lemillion signals to the heroes the civilians' location, so Endeavor unleashes a PLUS ULTRA Prominence Burn and then a Flare Circle to make a hole large enough for civilians to fall through, with all the heroes waiting outside to catch them all and bring them to safety. Despite being nearly tired out, Endeavor resolves to keep doing it as many times as he has to, as the heroes prepare to enter the fortress themselves next.
Deku and Giulio manage to climb to the level where Dark Might fled, reaching a dome that transforms before their eyes into a meadow. Giulio explains that this is due to Dark Might's Quirk, Alchemy, which allows him to create any matter using a catalyst, and used it to resemble All Might. In reality, he is Valdo Gollini, the head of the largest mafia organization in Europe.
When Deku asks him the reason why he changed his face to look like All Might, Dark Might himself appears to answer that question, with Anna next to him sitting on a sofa. Dark Might explains that he did it to succeed All Might and become the new symbol. He then takes off his suit to reveal All Might's Silver Age Costume underneath, and touches Anna to enhance his Quirk to higher levels.
Both Deku and Giulio fight Dark Might and try to save Anna from his control, but the villain gets the upper hand and easily overpowers them in battle, so Deku comes up with a plan to use Smokescreen to temporarily blind Dark Might and attack him to keep him busy long enough for Giulio to save Anna.
As Giulio rushes towards the girl, Deku attacks Dark Might with Detroit Smash, which the villain counters with his own Torino Smash. Just as Giulio is about to reach Anna, Deborah appears and uses her Quirk to make Giulio fall into another dream state again. This momentarily distracts Deku, allowing Dark Might to overpower him and sends Deku to a wall, pinning him down.
Dynamight and Shoto continue their battle against Ugo and Gil, who continue to dodge their attacks with ease and counterattack. The two students eventually realize that Gil can only teleport within their line of sight, so they use their respective Quirks to create a massive conflagration, forcing him to teleport in mid-air along with Ugo, but with his line of sight blocked by the flames, the villains are left defenseless against Dynamight, who blasts them, allowing Shoto to encase them in a large block of ice. With the foes defeated, Shoto and Dynamight head into the palace to help Deku and Giulio.
Back to the main struggle, Deborah instructs the still hypnotized Anna to murder Giulio with a dagger while he is asleep. Trapped between irons created by Dark Might, Deku calls out to Giulio to get him to wake up, but he doesn't budge. Fortunately, when Anna is about to stab him, outside Endeavor managed to create a hole big enough for the heroes to enter the structure. His attack causes the structure to shake, resulting in Anna to stumbling and dropping the dagger.
Giulio's robotic eye, unaffected by Day Dream, recognizes Deborah and his robotic arm nearly shoots her, but it is out of ammo, so she hysterically taunts him. But then, Giulio uses his prosthetic left leg to open a jet booster mechanism, allowing him to fly over and smash into a fearful Deborah, defeating her. This causes Deborah's hold over Anna to drop and she regains consciousness.
Anna tries to go help Giulio but is held back by Dark Might. Dynamight and Shoto soon arrive and free Deku, where the three finally fight against Dark Might together. The villain concludes that the three are truly All Might's successors and touches Anna once more to become powerful enough to change his costume into the "Golden Age", making him rival that of All Might's powers in his prime.
At the same time, Tsukuyomi is seen fighting a losing fight against the fortress' endlessly respawning monsters. Just as he is about to get done in, Hawks appears at the top of the amphitheater and floats down to help him win this fight. The same thing happens to the rest of the students of Class 1-A, on the verge of being defeated in a battle of attrition when several heroes arrive on the battlefield to assist them. Even so, the battle is still far from over, as the creatures merge to transform into even larger monsters and keep fighting.
Meanwhile, Deku, Dynamight, and Shoto team up together to fight Dark Might. The students have trouble dealing with this newfound increase in strength, as Dark Might recites All Might's words of "You're Next", claiming that it was meant to be him and mocks that All Might is a failed Symbol of Peace, enraging the three. The trio goes for an all-out assault on Dark Might and start to overwhelm him with everything they've got.
The three of them tell Dark Might that All Might wasn't just a Symbol of Peace or a hero; he was their hero, and because of All Might, he's inspired them and so many generations of heroes currently present who rise up in All Might's place, and they vow to defend the legacy of what All Might created for them.
Dynamight manages to burn off part of Dark Might's bodysuit, showing Valdo's real and panicking face. Then he and Shoto tell Deku to finish off Dark Might, and he delivers many punches and kicks, using Faux 100% to power up his Ultimate Moves: Detroit, Texas, Wyoming, Carolina, Missouri, California, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, and finishing him off with St. Louis Smash.
Defeated, Valdo recalls back to when he impulsively killed his father, the former head of the Gollini Family, after he told him his vision of All Might as strength triumphing over all was wrong, finally understanding what he meant. With his defeat, his golems begin to fall apart, finally giving victory to the heroes and students. Lemillion locates Kamile, knocking him out, which causes the fortress to start to fall from the sky, and collapse.
With Valdo defeated, Giulio recovers and tries to get to Anna. However, as Anna's Overmodification Quirk has already reached Quirk Singularity due to overuse, it has caused her to lose control of her Quirk. As a result, her powers consume everything in the battlefield, including the defeated Valdo. Her berserk Quirk allows the villain to have even more amplified Quirk powers, turning him into a colossal monster as the fortress reassembles itself.
Shoto and Dynamight fight back against the transformed Dark Might, as Deku tries to get Giulio to Anna, who was encased by thorns when she mutated on herself. Dark Might, unable to get enough from his newfound strength, demands more power from Anna, and his monster form evolves into an even bigger one.
Shoto and Dynamight get swept aside by Anna's Quirk going berserk, and it also renders Deku unconscious. The three are all on the floor away from each other. Dynamight pleads with Deku to wake up since the fight is not over yet.
Giulio manages to break through and holds Anna tightly, and thanks to her Overmodification, his own Neutralization Quirk becomes greatly enhanced, allowing him to use it even though his right hand is missing. Anna recalls a time when the two of them were happy and at peace. Giulio swears that he will always be by her side, no matter what, and then use his Quirk on Anna.
She then calms down, allowing Deku, Dynamight, and Shoto to stand up and fight the monstrous Dark Might. With him vulnerable, the three students attack the villain and unleashed their most powerful moves; Shoto uses Flashfreeze Heatwave, Dynamight unleashes Howitzer Impact with Cluster at their maximum power, and Deku finishes things off with a final smash to deliver the decisive blow, destroying Dark Might and the entire fortress.
Epilogue#
With the Gollini Family defeated, the U.A. Shelter is safe, and everyone cheers on the heroes and Class 1-A for their valiant victory. As Anna regains consciousness, Giulio crumples to the floor. She hugs him and he eventually wakes up.
Giulio tells her that he is revealed to be compatible her Quirk, which overloaded his Neutralization, and because of that it has permanently neutralized her Quirk, rendering her functionally Quirkless. Giulio tells Anna he no longer needs to watch out for her now that she cannot hurt anyone anymore and then tries to leave, but she runs and holds him from behind, saying that she doesn't want him to leave. He told her he would be by her side always, and Giulio turns around and embraces her. The two look into each other's eyes and hug against the sunset as Class 1-A watches them and smiles.
Deku is happy Anna and Giulio are together smiling once more, and remembers what Nana said to him: that even in times of despair and darkness, everyone's desires and dreams will turn into a light that will shine on a new Symbol of Peace that All Might created, and reflects that he is sure the heroes will emerge triumphantly in their war against the villains.
Meanwhile, in a secret cave, All For One sits patiently in hiding as Tomura finally reawakens.
Manga Adaptation#
Volume Next is a special tie-in volume that was released alongside the premiere to audiences in Japan. Just like with the other three movies, this includes concept sketches, interviews and a new chapter, all by Kohei Horikoshi. The chapter, A Piece of Cake, acts as a prequel to the film's events.
A bonus chapter was also released in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 35, 2024 to coincide with the movie, written by Yoco Akiyama, who created similar spotlight chapters for the other films. Titled "Connect to the Day", it also acts as a prequel focusing on Class 1-A hunting down jailbreakers.

Trivia#
- This is the first My Hero Academia movie:
- that doesn't feature the word "Heroes" in its title.
- to not be distributed in North America by Crunchyroll (or its previous incarnation Funimation), with it instead being distributed by Toho International.
- Crunchyroll still produced the English dub like they have for the anime and previous films.
- to feature a post-credits sequence.
- to have a separate opening and ending theme, instead of one general theme song.
- to not be referenced in any way in the main manga, presumably due to the film's development and release taking place near and at the same time as the manga's conclusion respectively.
- The anime would in turn reference the events through altering the setup of the jailbreaker hunt in Episode 142, and cameo appearances by Giulio and Anna. The two also appeared in the Ultra Artworks art book.
- In the initial 2nd Key Visual poster, there was an error where Shoto was using his ice powers on his left instead of his right. This was shortly fixed.
- On July 6th 2024, during Anime Expo, Toho Animation hosted a special event for My Hero Academia where the first 15 minutes were shown to attendees after the interviews with Deku and All Might's Japanese voice actors.
- The film takes place between chapters 342 and 343 (during Episode 143), in-between the U.A. Traitor Arc and Final War Arc.
- Due to this, Yuga Aoyama is the only Class 1-A student absent in this film, having been revealed to be the U.A. Traitor beforehand. He only makes a brief appearance in the movie's opening credits.
