Mirio Togata

ArticleSynopsisRelationshipsSource revision

Mirio Togata, also known as the Comedy Hero: Lemillion, was a student in Class 3-B[2] at U.A. High School and was part of The Big 3.

Following the Final War, Mirio graduates from U.A. and becomes a Pro Hero.[5] Eight years later, he has become the No. 1 Hero.[6]

Appearance#

Mirio is a tall young man with a very muscular build and several noticeable scars around his lower arms. His design is unique due to his beady blue eyes, drawn in a simplistic style with no visible sclera, and nose prominently rounder than most others. He has blond hair, the top part of which is arranged in a quiff hairstyle, while the bottom section is worn swept backward.

In his school uniform, Mirio dresses like most of the male students, though he wears a belt with a large, rectangular golden buckle shaped like a carnivorous mouth.

Before becoming a member of the Big 3, Mirio wore long hair tied into a ponytail. It is assumed that he cut it so the support department could use it to manufacture him a hero costume that would work alongside his Quirk.

In his hero costume, Mirio wears a white skin-tight top with the number "1000000" (one million) stamped across his chest in a bold, yellow font. The trimming on the top and shoulder pads are made in a matching fashion. On his waist, two green lines act as a belt, along with some lines of similar appearance on his shoulders, which dip in places to form two V's. Mirio also wears baggy dark blue pants, with the back being white, divided in the middle by the blue, and white knee-high boots with yellow soles. He wears a red cape as well as thick short gloves of matching color. Mirio's costume is then topped off with a white visor with yellow lenses, although he doesn't wear it often as it falls off when he activates his Quirk.

By the time of the Final War, Mirio has made small adjustments to his costume. He has more yellow trimming on the front and his belt has a slight change, along with a pouch on the back. His blue pants only have the white lines on the sides, accompanied by different white knee-high boots with white soles. The gloves are a bit longer and he no longer wears his visor.

Eight years after the Final War, Mirio's hair has grown longer, and has shaved off the sides and styled the rest into a spiraling, comically long pompadour. His current costume has a different dark blue bodysuit, with the upper portion now being decreased to a white chest plate with yellow trimming around it, with his "1000000" stamp pressed on it. His gloves are now white and longer, with an angular pattern at the end, his white boots are now part of his suit, with the soles being yellow and decorated with a track pattern resembling multiple "zeroes", and snaking upward from his calves are white strips that thin out to a "one" design that end at the upper part of his thighs. His belt is still green but slightly resigned with a more intense v-shape, and guards on the sides of his hips and his cape is now of an orange yellow color.

Personality#

Mirio usually comes across as a highly goofy and energetic individual with peculiar habits. Based solely on his personality, many question how Mirio is one of U.A.'s top students. Mirio has a very optimistic attitude and can almost always be found smiling. His character is what led Sir Nighteye to believe that he could be the one to replace All Might as the symbol of peace.[7]

Mirio is known for his odd sense of humor. His jokes range from corny to puerile, occasionally making a fool of himself for others' enjoyment. One such instance was when he stuck his clothed butt through the bushes as a puppet when introducing Class 1-A to Eri.

Mirio does not allow his laid-back nature to cloud his judgment or impede his dreams of becoming a hero. He has proven an extremely hard worker, turning a near-unmasterable ability into one of the world's most powerful Quirks. Mirio is constantly looking for ways to improve his skills and tries to work toward his goals by accumulating different experiences to learn from them.[8]

When he was a small child, Mirio accidentally fell into a river but was saved by a Pro Hero. This event marked his decision to become a hero to save others. Knowing he can't rescue everyone, Mirio chose the hero name "Lemillion" because he aspires to save at least one million people. Despite Mirio's uplifting personality, he can suffer from failure just like everyone else. He has an excellent understanding of hero protocols and can control his emotions proficiently to see the bigger picture.[1]

Lemillion and Deku acted for the greater good when they chose to allow Eri to leave with Overhaul. However, their failure to rescue her tormented them once they discovered the truth. This regret put a damper on Mirio's usually cheerful personality and burdened him with immense guilt, which drove him to promise never to let Eri come to harm again, a promise he would keep no matter what.[9]

Mirio is also extremely brave and, in contrast to his laid-back nature, he is experienced in dealing with dangerous people and is not easily scared. He could talk to Overhaul in his usual, cheerful manner despite knowing about his background as a perilous yakuza member.[1] He also went ahead of the entire combined hero force during the Shie Hassaikai Raid and combated Overhaul, Chronostasis, Deidoro Sakaki, and Shin Nemoto all by himself.[10]

Alongside his bravery, Mirio has shown to be confident in his abilities. He knew he could take on all of Class 1-A to teach them a lesson and was even bold enough to face four of the Shie Hassaikai members alone. Mirio believes in his strength and always shouts "POWER!" after winning a fight.[8][10]

Lemillion repeatedly displays the values of a true hero. He risked his life and even sacrificed his Quirk to protect Eri. Despite knowing how it would negatively affect his career, Mirio allowed his Quirk to be destroyed to inspire Eri and keep his promise never to let her know pain again. Mirio's bravery allowed Eri to awaken and set the path for the heroes to defeat the Yakuza. Lemillion even continued fighting after losing his Quirk and protected Eri from Overhaul. His incredible tenacity caused Shin Nemoto to question whether he was even human.[11]

Despite losing his Quirk and mentor following the raid, Mirio remains steadfast in his hopes of becoming a hero. His cheerful personality has not faded, and Sir Nighteye's final words empower him. He even refused Izuku Midoriya's offer to receive One For All[12] and told Tamaki Amajiki he was in no rush to get his powers back, showing that he was okay with being Quirkless.[13]

Upon regaining his power, Mirio was thrilled to be able to help his allies again and internally thanked Eri for making it possible.

During the Final War, Mirio was selected to face "Tomura Shigaraki" alongside his fellow Big 3 members, Katsuki Bakugo, Best Jeanist, Edgeshot, and Mirko. Here, Mirio clashes against "Tomura's" nihilism, telling him that he must not have any friends, because if he did, he would know there are some things that should never be destroyed. However, when this statement provokes an angry response from Tenko within "Tomura's" soul, Mirio is left shocked and later realizes that Tomura and All For One haven't fully merged due to "Tomura's" instability.

After witnessing Katsuki almost die at the hands of "Tomura", Mirio panicked but remained steadfast in providing his aid, going so far as to moon "Tomura" in order to distract him, giving just enough time for Izuku to appear. When Izuku nearly lost himself to his anger upon seeing a seemingly dead Katsuki, Mirio once again went out of his way to bring Izuku back to his senses, assuring the young man that Best Jeanist and Edgeshot were working to revive Katsuki while also revealing that Tomura wasn't completely gone. Mirio soon left Izuku to take over the ensuing fight and got his fellow Heroes out of harm's way.

During the third years' graduation ceremony following the Final War, Mirio is the one to deliver the closing speech as the graduates' representative. Uncharacteristically, Mirio does not start off his speech with a joke or a gag, but instead seriously addresses the students on how much they lost during the war and gained nothing back, commending the U.A.'s general education, support, and business courses for all coming together to help the Heroes fight. He then says that the three years they all spend at U.A. will go towards their end goal: a world where everyone can smile and cheer together, keeping to Nighteye's parting words that a world with no smiles or humor has no future at all. With his departed mentor in mind, a smiling Mirio reverts back to his comedic self and uses his Quirk to bid a grand farewell to everyone, leaping off the stage in his hero costume as Bibimi Kenranzaki's robot crashes through behind him.

Eight years later, Mirio has become a full-fledged Hero, quickly rising to the top as the No. 1 Hero in the Hero Billboard Chart JP, now known by everyone as the Comedian Hero: Lemillion. In his spare time, he joins Ochaco Uraraka and Tsuyu Asui along with his former Big 3 classmates, Nejire and Fat Gum's Sidekick Tamaki, to assist with Ochaco's Quirk Counselling. With his new title, Lemillion riles up the children he assisting with by jumping into a tree, shaking his butt around and challenging the kids to "hit his peaches" with their Quirks. A nervous kid named Ooshima is then helped by Ochaco, using her Zero Gravity to allow him to hit Lemillion, who is congratulated by the hero and the kids.

Abilities#

Overall Abilities: Mirio is considered U.A. High School's most powerful student. Because of this, he is the leader of the Big Three U.A.'s best students, along with Tamaki Amajiki and Nejire Hado. Mirio, in particular, has earned enormous acclaim due to a combination of extraordinary technique, excellent fighting ability, and a charismatic personality, to the point of being considered a contender for the No. 1 spot among Pro Heroes and, at one point, a potential successor for All Might as a wielder of One For All.[14]

His abilities garnered the attention of All Might's former sidekick, Sir Nighteye, who personally trained Mirio to the elite status the young hero now possesses. His mastery over prediction, inhuman physical abilities, and incredible Quirk render Mirio unrivaled in battle. The phase-shifter used his top-grade abilities to defeat eighteen out of the twenty students of Class 1-A, including some of its elite students (excluding Shoto Todoroki, who felt unworthy of partaking in the match against Mirio due to not having his Provisional Hero License at the time, and Katsuki Bakugo, who was still under house arrest), who have all fought real villains, with a single punch to each student's gut in mere seconds.

During the Shie Hassaikai Raid, Mirio proved his strength on the battlefield against Overhaul and his followers. Mirio endured the guerrilla warfare of Shin Nemoto, as well as the balance inhibition of Deidoro Sakaki, and was able to take them by surprise, defeating the duo with great speed. While recovering from the balance-hindering effects of Deidoro's Quirk, Mirio proceeded to overpower Chronostasis and Overhaul in a two-on-one fight, all while protecting Eri.[10]

Overhaul, acknowledging Mirio's abilities surpassed his own, found himself outmatched to the point where he was forced to have one of the few valuable Quirk-Destroying Bullets used on Mirio, to level the playing field. Even then, Mirio was able to use the power of prediction and incredible brute strength to hold his own against the villain for five uninterrupted minutes while still protecting Eri until Overhaul was successful at immobilizing the de-powered hero, and the Nighteye Squad arrived to assist Mirio.[11]

Six months later, when the Paranormal Liberation War was reaching its climax, Mirio's Quirk was finally restored by Eri, enabling the power-restored hero to make his way to Jaku City and briskly repel four Near High-End Nomus that were approaching Best Jeanist. Admitting he couldn't defeat the quartet of Near High-Ends by himself, Mirio was aided by Nejire, Tenya Ida, and Katsuki to successfully hold off the Nomu tetrad for a prolonged period until an All For One-possessed Tomura Shigaraki opted a retreat. Despite this, however, even after months of being without his Quirk, Mirio still retains remarkable proficiency with his power in combat.

During the Final War, Mirio was selected to act as the bodyguard in the floating U.A. Fortress, using his Quirk to speed throughout the arena and spread information between everyone quickly. He also demonstrated his skills alongside his fellow Big Three members when they managed to hold back the perfected "Tomura Shigaraki" for an extended time, and in the end, he was the only hero of the team to emerge unscathed once Deku finally arrived.

After becoming a Pro Hero, Mirio quickly reached the top of the hero rankings over the years, becoming Japan's No. 1 hero at the mere age of 26.[15]

  • Superior Technique: Mirio's greatest strength is incredible mastery over his near-uncontrollable Quirk, to which he is often considered invincible. Mirio can showcase meticulous precision on when and where in his Quirk, Permeation, should be active while performing swift moves. For those reasons, guarding oneself against his attacks in combat is borderline impossible. Thanks to rigorous training, Mirio was able to master instant transportation through the repelling property of his Quirk, being able to adjust the direction and positioning of his falling body to control the trajectory of his ejection, as well as using prediction based on experience to resurface himself next to targets, allowing him to strike them from any angle. For an outside observer, Mirio gives the illusion that he is somehow teleporting because of his apparent disappearance and reappearance at various spots, which happens almost immediately.[8]
  • Enhanced Strength: Mirio possesses a great deal of physical strength, so much so that it appears supernatural. A single punch to the stomach was enough to incapacitate each of the Class 1-A members and break Overhaul's arm. In the battle against Overhaul, Mirio had the yakuza leader completely outmatched in terms of brute strength.[11]
  • Enhanced Speed: Mirio possesses heightened speed. He took out over half of Class 1-A in about six seconds. This is mostly due to the warping ability of his Quirk, but Mirio showed great footspeed when he caught up to Overhaul and Chronostasis in only a few minutes after entering their hideout.[16]
  • Enhanced Durability: Even without his Quirk's intangibility, Mirio has great resilience. Mirio was able to survive Overhaul's spike attacks with only a few moderate injuries.[11]

Keen Intellect: Despite his carefree and laid-back personality, Mirio is very astute. Thanks to Nighteye's training, Mirio possesses deductive skills that allow him to predict his opponent's movements and fighting ability accurately. When he faced off against Class 1-A, Mirio decided first to defeat the long-distance fighters, knowing they would be the most troublesome, before subduing the remaining students who excel in close-quarters combat. As he and Izuku were on patrol and encountered Overhaul, Mirio successfully avoided suspicion while maintaining his friendly demeanor. He masked Izuku's face so the yakuza leader wouldn't recognize it later on and mislead Overhaul into believing the pair were interning students rather than reveal their connection to the Nighteye agency, as per Overhaul's inquiry about the Hero agency to which the students belonged.

During his brief confrontation with Shin Nemoto, Mirio deduced that the con artist wasn't the type of individual who would be on the front lines of battle, to which Shin admitted. Afterward, while facing Overhaul and Hari, Mirio identified the latter from his actions and knew it was a hazard to be on the receiving end of the hooded yakuza's Chronostasis Quirk. Mirio even cleverly used his cape to obscure Hari's line of fire first and then removed the garment to make it appear that he was still hiding behind it, only to blindside Hari into a false sense of security effectively. Mirio also knows the limits of his abilities, evidenced by his proclamation of being unable to defeat four Near High-End Nomus by himself, hence why he asked for assistance against the Nomu quaternion. While contending with the Near High-Ends, Mirio measured their movements and physical capabilities and surmised their overall abilities were on equal terms with the first High-End, Hood.

Indomitable Will: Mirio's unwavering will, brave heart, and heroic spirit are some of the most remarkable aspects of his character that make him a true hero. Having dealt with many dangerous individuals, Mirio has become impervious to fear and intimidation, allowing him to overcome overwhelming threats and situations with sheer tenacity. After defeating Shin and Deidoro, Mirio explained that he continued to fight because Eri is a kindhearted girl who would rather endure constant pain than see others hurt, inspiring Mirio to push himself even further to save her. After securing Eri and sacrificing his Quirk to save her, Mirio promised to protect the young girl so she wouldn't be sad.

With that promise and determination alone, Mirio's spirit remained steadfast; being a true hero that never faltered, despite his Quirkless state and crippling injuries, Mirio's resolve allowed him to continue fighting against Overhaul with willpower alone. Mirio's die-hard heroism heavily influenced Eri, inspiring her to help others, most prominently demonstrated when she aided Izuku in defeating Overhaul. Mirio's burning spirit also impacted Izuku, who not only saw Mirio as a better hero-at-heart than himself but was moved to the point of considering transferring One For All to the Quirk-deprived Mirio.

Quirk#

Permeation: Mirio's Quirk allows him to become intangible, letting him pass through any tangible matter; he can phase through walls or the ground, as well as let enemy attacks pass through him harmlessly.

While intangible, he experiences a falling sensation because he still has mass. Furthermore, everything passes through him, including light, sound, and air, meaning he can't see, hear, or breathe while his Quirk is active. This aspect of his ability also means that he has to keep at least one foot solid at all times while his Quirk is active, or else he will fall into the ground.[8]

According to the laws of physics, things with mass cannot overlap; if Mirio returns to his solid state while phasing through something, his body will be repelled outward. By adjusting the direction he is facing or the pose he is holding, he can control the direction from which he is repelled.

Initially, he struggled with his Quirk due to the strict limitations and many little steps involved in using it, but he managed to perfect it after training with Sir Nighteye.

Mirio lost his Quirk during his fight against Overhaul, when he was struck by a Quirk-Destroying Bullet fired by Shin Nemoto, who aimed the bullet at Eri so that Mirio would be forced to shield her with his body. By the time of the Paranormal Liberation War, Eri achieved a sufficient handle on her Rewind Quirk, allowing her to restore Mirio's Permeation Quirk.[17]

Ultimate Moves#

  • Blinder Touch Eyeball Crush: A feint, Mirio pretends to poke an opponent in the eye while his arm is intangible, distracting them long enough to deliver an actual blow to their stomach.[8]
  • Phantom Menace: A near-instantaneous combo, Mirio takes full advantage of his Quirk's side effect, in which he is repelled outward upon returning to a solid state while phasing through something. He first phases into a nearby surface then repels out and phases into another nearby surface; he does this consecutively, launching himself at high speeds in and out of his surroundings with all of his brute strength, striking all targets precisely with pin-point accuracy and calculation from all directions.[10]

Stats#

Equipment#

Lemilliosuit: Mirio's Quirk normally forces him to phase out of his clothes, leaving him nude. His hero costume is lined with special fibers produced from his hairs. This allows Mirio's costume to phase with him whenever he activates his Quirk. Its design is based on a hero who saved and inspired Mirio when he was young.

  • Lemilliomet: A visor that is meant to protect Lemillion's face, but it cannot phase with him and is bound to slip off.[18][19]

Quotes#

  • (To Class 1-A) "I used to take my sweet time, just to be safe! I'd hold back until the last second and end up falling anyway. Then my clothes would fall off. But time was one thing I didn't have if I wanted to make it to the top with my quirk · I had to predict · Faster than my surroundings could change · Foresight was essential if I wanted to "trick " time itself!"[21]
  • (To Class 1-A) "I turned my work-study experience into power that's allowing me to reach for the stars! Which is why, even if you're scared, I wholeheartedly recommend it to you, first-years · "[21]
