This article is about the former Class 1-B student. For the Nighteye Agency sidekick known as Centipeder, see Juzo Moashi.
Juzo Honenuki, also known as Mudman, was a student in Class 1-B at U.A. High School, where he was one of the two who got in through official recommendations.[3]
Eight years after the Final War, Juzo has graduated from U.A. High School and has become the No. 14 Hero.[4][5]
Appearance#
Juzo is a pale-skinned young man with angular eyes, mid-length spiked hair of a beige color, a flat nose, and small eyebrows. His most unusual feature is his teeth, which sit outside his skin. He has no discernible lips, giving him a skull-like appearance, though this is not related to his Quirk in any readily apparent way. According to Kohei Horikoshi, he has the appearance of a good-looking guy.[1]
His Hero Costume consist of a dark bodysuit with a set of armor over the top and a mask that covers the face. His helmet is rounder and elliptical, tinted black with white lines on the visor and orange with black lines supporting the sides, some tufts of hair around the back of his head and his chin are still visible. Juzo's helmet also has a retractable snorkel, which he uses for swimming under softened surfaces.
His chest plate comprises three pieces, held on by two thick metal straps over his shoulders and a red jewel-shaped scale supported between them. He wears orange with small yellow accented vambraces and plates over his thighs, calves, and upper arms. He also sports a pair of elevated, green, and orange boots with pipe-like shafts, white gloves on his hands, and white kneepads.
Eight years later after the Final War, Juzo's face has grown sharper and more mature. His current hero costume has the same core elements but sports a more mechanical chest plate and a sleeker helmet design. His hair also doesn't protrude from the back, though its unclear whether it's due to the helmet's design or Juzo cutting his hair shorter.
Personality#
Juzo hates losing; however, like the rest of his class, he does not feel bad about letting others receive what they deserve, as shown when he lets his classmates continue at the Sports Festival.
Juzo is also shown to have a calm, understanding demeanor when dealing with his classmates' antics, notably during the Joint Training Battle. Juzo notably cares about his friends' well-being, mentioning that he would satisfy them due to his mistake during Round 3 of his battle against Team 3-A. He is constantly being praised for his "soft and flexible thinking" by Sen Kaibara.
Juzo has admitted he must be more stubborn to win battle in unfavorable conditions. When Tenya unveiled "Recipro Turbo", Juzo realized he was at a grave disadvantage and decided to retreat, showing his excellent judgment towards fight or flight.
Juzo does not put up with Neito Monoma's complaining about Class A and implores his classmates to tell them directly, which he does.
Abilities#
Overall Abilities: Juzo is a recommended student, implying that he possesses a very high level of skill. Mashirao Ojiro noted that Juzo has excellent reflexes, allowing him to counter Shoto Todoroki's "Heaven-Piercing Ice Wall" before the attack could completely encase Juzo's team in ice.Juzo has an excellent grasp of his Quirk, Softening, allowing him to easily manipulate the surrounding environment to his advantage by restricting enemy movement and controlling the flow of battle. Juzo can use his Quirk effectively against opponents who rely on solid footing during combat, such as Tenya and Mashirao Ojiro.By softening the ground and diving into it, Juzo can swim through the softened material, allowing him to move rapidly across the battlefield undetected or escape from enemies who are too overwhelming to confront directly. He can also use this technique to sneak up on opponents. While submerged beneath the ground, Juzo can continue to breathe thanks to the oxygen helmet incorporated into his equipment, allowing him to remain underground for extended periods without needing to surface.Combined with his excellent reflexes, Juzo can effectively counter enemy attacks that rely on solid substances, turning them into harmless goo before they can affect him.During round three of the Joint Training Battle, Juzo immobilized the opposing team of Class 1-A, but when Tenya activated his new technique, "Recipro Turbo", Juzo decided to retreat, knowing he could not win a drawn-out fight against opponents that had an advantage over him.
Keen Intellect: As one of the recommended students that got into U.A. High School, Juzo demonstrates a high level of flexibility and intelligence. This skill was seen during the Joint Training, where Juzo could analyze his teammates' flaws and create a disadvantage for his enemies using his keen observation. By using knowledge of the different fighting styles and Quirks of people, Juzo could correctly discern the opposing team's strategy. Noticing Shoto's habit of starting a fight with ice attacks, Juzo was able to use the generated ice to his advantage and trap Shoto's team in the softened ice.[3]
- Bilingualism: Juzo speaks both Japanese and English competently as he can hold a conversation in English with his classmate Pony Tsunotori.[6]
Quirk#
Softening: Juzo's Quirk allows him to soften any non-living thing he touches. For example, he can soften the ground to make it similar to quicksand, hindering movements and mobility. If Juzo makes contact again, he can undo the effect. He is also capable of swimming through softened material.
