Giulio Gandini is a major character from My Hero Academia: You're Next. He is the butler for the wealthy Scervino family.
Appearance#
Giulio is a man of average build with brownish-red hair tied back into a short ponytail, thin greenish-blue eyes, sharp teeth, and a mole under his left eye. After he was attacked by the Gollini Family, he lost his right eye, right arm, and left leg, which were later replaced with corresponding Support Items. His right eye also gained scarring around the socket, which he obscures with an eyepatch.
Fitting to his occupation, Giulio wears a black tailcoat, pants, and dress shoes, a grey vest, a black and gray striped tie, and a white undershirt with the collar popped up. He keeps his right sleeve rolled up and his left pant leg torn in order to keep his prosthetics exposed. His left leg and torso also have an array of belts strapping a pouch and holsters for his ammo and extra firearms.
In the anime, he is seen among the evacuees in U.A.'s residential area, now wearing blue jeans, and a loose-fitting, light blue dress shirt with the right sleeve rolled up just below his elbow.[2]
Eight years after the Final War, Giulio has grown his hair out, with it now reaching past his chin and having a small bun instead of a ponytail. He also wears a black hooded jacket over a white shirt.[3]
Personality#
Giulio is a calm, stern, and "polite" gentleman who has a fierce sense of loyalty to the Scervino Family, especially Anna. He has a cold and abrasive attitude towards new people, while still maintaining his sophisticated demeanor, as seen during his interactions with Izuku Midoriya, where he asked him politely to go die somewhere else or that he could be useful to him as a human shield.
In the past, Giulio was far more polite and happier. Despite being bound to the family's mansion and unable to leave Anna's side, he was still content and grateful towards Anna's father for taking him in and giving him a job and a home. Even after being left for dead by the Gollini Family and losing access to his Quirk, Giulio managed to literally piece himself back together and pursue them to find Anna. With no way to treat her Quirk anymore, Giulio decided to fulfil his promise to kill Anna as a way of saving her from her suffering, despite this course of action clearly paining him. The loss of his home and Anna being taken from him clearly traumatized Giulio, to the point where he could no longer smile.
When it comes to his enemies, Giulio is very brutal and will show no mercy. Despite this, he shows some semblance of reason and doesn't go straight for the kill, instead opting to use non-lethal force to disable his enemies. He is even shown respecting some Gollini henchmen for not wanting to sell out their boss. Even when threatening Izuku with his revolver, the latter's Danger Sense did not react, implying that Giulio had no true intention of harming the young man. While confronting Paulo Gollini and his men, he tried to peacefully demand that Anna be returned to him and was regretful that he had to resort to violence. In combat, Giulio will not back down no matter what, as seen when he fought a heavily empowered Dark Might with him still pushing through the battle even when the mafia boss brutally injured him.
Unlike most people, Giulio has a very dark view of Heroes, believing them to be nothing but hypocrites of their purpose, despite their intentions to do good. He calls out Izuku for sticking his nose where it doesn't belong, shouting that none of the Heroes know just how much Anna is suffering.
Despite his cold attitude, Giulio has a kind and warm heart that opens up from time to time. While he was angry at Izuku for interfering with his mission to kill Anna as he promised her to, he chose not to give up with saving her when Class 1-A reached out to him, recalling their own experiences with nullifying harmful Quirks and reassuring Giulio that he isn't alone in his situation. Later, he chose to join Izuku, Katsuki, and Shoto, in confronting Dark Might, telling Izuku that he could still see him smile. When the conflict ended, he assured Anna that she shouldn't label him as dead just yet upon waking up to her. After finally saving Anna and freeing her from the pain of her Quirk, Giulio announced that he had fulfilled his contract and was no longer needed, yet despite that, was happy when Anna said she still wanted him around and agreed to stay with her.
Abilities#
Overall Abilities: Giulio is an exceptionally talented and dangerous combatant, having trained in the military before becoming the Scervino family's butler. He is capable of contending with some Heroes and Villains in close-quarters combat. To compensate for his missing limbs and crippled Quirk, Giulio has modified his body with high-tech prosthetics that also serve as weapons, such as a prosthetic arm that he can turn into a gun. He is also shown using guerilla tactics to fight, such as playing dead to lure his enemies towards him, or pushing Izuku out from his cover to draw his enemies' fire. His prosthetics can even aid him to escape the effects of certain Quirks, as seen when his cybernetic eye was unaffected by Deborah Gollini's Day Dream Quirk, allowing him to escape her brainwashing and stage a counterattack.
Marksmanship: Despite having to wear an eye patch, Giulio is incredibly skilled with his various firearms, including his prosthetic arm-gun.
Skilled Driver: Giulio has shown to be extremely proficient in driving his motorcycle. He is able to effortlessly maneuver along all types of terrain, be it the ruined cities of Japan or through the numerous artificial environments created by Dark Might's Alchemy. Giulio is also capable of fighting while riding on top of his motorcycle and can effortlessly exercise his gunplay while attacking and defending from his opponents at increased speeds.
Skilled Mechanic: Giulio is a skilled mechanic. After being left maimed following the Gollini Family's attack, he was able to replace his limbs with high-tech prosthetics and is later seen repairing his damaged right arm.
Catering: As the Scervino family's butler and Anna's attendant, Giulio is well suited to caring for the needs of others. He is seen preparing tea for Anna and later brews coffee for himself while taking a rest.
Quirk#
Neutralization: Giulio's Quirk allows him to temporarily nullify someone's Quirk Factor whenever he touches them with his right arm, effectively making them Quirkless for a short period of time. Due to losing his right arm, which stored his own Quirk Factor, he became unable to activate Neutralization. This was reversed after coming under the effects of Anna's Overmodification, allowing his Quirk Factor to spread past his arm and become usable once more, throughout the rest of his body. It also grew to the point where it can neutralize a target's Quirk Factor permanently.
Equipment#
- Cybernetic Eye: Giulio's right eye is able to scan and identify targets. It can also interact with his other prosthetics and activate them if Giulio is unable to manually.
- Prosthetic Arm: Giulio's prosthetic right arm is able to transform into a handgun with a reloadable magazine, his primary method of combat. His wrist also contains a grappling hook below that he can use to reach and save others. His right arm also contains a screen that he can use to control his motorcycle.
- Prosthetic Leg: Giulio's prosthetic left leg seems to contain a "jet booster" type of mechanic installed within its sole. Due to the fact this device only activated while he was unconscious, it's unknown how he typically uses it.
- Sniper Rifle: Giulio used a sniper rifle to shoot at Ginji Kurau from a distance before placing it into a compartment in his motorcycle.
- Revolver: Giulio also wielded a snub-nosed revolver handgun that he loaded with non-lethal shock bullets.
- Motorcycle and Gun Attachments: Giulio's armored motorcycle is his primary method of transportation and is frequently seen fighting while riding it. He's also capable of controlling it remotely, allowing it to do things such as stand itself upright, shed its armor, and drive unmanned in case he's separated from it. The trunk also has room for him to mount his rifle on top of it. The motorcycle was destroyed shortly before he and Izuku confronted Dark Might.
- Tools: Giulio has a number of tools inside the pouch on his belt that he can use to repair his prosthetic limbs if need be.

Trivia#
- Giulio's design may be based off Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist. Both characters wear their hair in ponytails while also having lost their right arm and left leg before having them replaced with mechanical prosthetics that they use as weapons. Both also travel for the sake of their loved ones, Anna for Giulio and Alphonse for Edward, with both of them being determined to fulfill their promises to them.
- This reference is further added to with Giulio's archenemy, Dark Might, possessing his Alchemy Quirk which allows him to transmute the matter of anything he touches, much like Edward and Alphonse can do with their alchemy.
