History#
When Tsunagu Hakamada was a teen he attended U.A. High School[1] and was close friends with Shinya Kamihara. There they formed the "Textile Arts Association", with Tsunagu as the Club President.[2]
At some point, he ascended to being among the top five Pro Heroes, becoming known as "Best Jeanist".
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes#
Vigilantes Beginnings Arc#
Best Jeanist was in Naruhata when he receives a call for help due to a sudden Instant Villains outbreak that is causing panic in the streets. Best Jeanist and many other heroes who are also in the area, rush to the place of the outbreak and subdue all the Instant Villains in a short space of time.[3]
Sometime later, Best Jeanist attends a meeting at the police station with several of the heroes who had participated in suppressing the outbreak, like Eraser Head, Endeavor, Midnight, Ingenium and many more. Once in the meeting room, Detective Eizo Tanuma informs them that the Instant Villains they had defeated are unwilling civilians who were injected with Trigger by someone.
When the meeting ends, and Best Jeanist is about to leave to return to his duties, the police station is attacked by the Suicide Bomber. Best Jeanist and other heroes prepare to defeat him before he hurts someone, but the villain is quickly defeated by Midnight and Eraser Head. Given that everything has ended well, Best Jeanist leaves.[4]
Vs. Queen Bee Arc#
The Marukane Department Store decides to hold an event about the Naruhata neighborhood, and they wanted appearances from hero involved in the recent outbreaks of villains. Best Jeanist is one of those who accepts the invitation.[5] Except for a sudden blackout, the event proceeds without incident.
Sky Egg Arc#
Best Jeanist accepts Makoto Tsukauchi's invitation to participate in the farewell show dedicated to Captain Celebrity at the Tokyo Sky Egg on the occasion of his return to the United States.[6] During the event, he uses his Fiber Master Quirk to entertain the audience by decking various heroines with dresses.
However, the event is interrupted when the the Tokyo Sky Egg is attacked by creatures known as Bombers sent by the villain, Number 6. The villain wants to kill Captain Celebrity, and for this he planned the attack carefully. He orders one of his bombers to self-destruct to seriously damage the building, forcing Captain Celebrity to hold it to prevent its collapse, but leaving him defenseless against the attack of the creatures.[7]. He also makes another creature cut off communications with the outside.
In one of the rooms of the Sky Egg, the heroes and show staff discuss the situation. Best Jeanist deduces that everything that is happening is the result of a meticulous plan that seeks to seal them all in the building. He decides that the best option is for the show staff and a group of heroes to look after the civilians without telling them the truth about what is happening to avoid panic. Meanwhile, another group will go outside to face the creatures.[8]
Thanks to Koichi Haimawari protecting Captain Celebrity, the heroes manage to arrive in time to help. With the help of Edgeshot, Best Jeanist manages to capture the last bomber with his Fiber Master Quirk. After this, he asks Ingenium if what he requested had arrived, and then he is informed of the arrival of a truck transporting carbon fiber cables made for suspension bridges. Best Jeanist descends to the ground and uses his Quirk to manipulate the cables and secure the structure, preventing the Tokyo Sky Egg dome from falling.
In the distance, Number 6 sees that his plan is about to fail because of the heroes so, in retaliation, he orders the last Bomber to self-destruct. The Bomber frees itself form the fibers and explodes causing the building to begin to crumble.[9] Fortunately, All Might arrives in time and manages save everybody's life.[10]
Later, while speaking to the media, Best Jeanist praises both All Might and Captain Celebrity for helping save thousands of lives during the terrorist attack.[11]
Naruhata Lockdown Arc#
Best Jeanist is called to apprehend Koichi Haimawari, the vigilante known as The Crawler, by the police following an attack on the police department by an unknown assailant. Teaming up with Edgeshot, the latter distracts The Crawler with his Spiral Spear Hand, forcing him to land on the rooftops. There, Jeanist and Edgeshot recognize him as the unsung hero from the Sky Egg Bombing, and reveals that they are aware that someone is out to get Kazuho Haneyama, so they want to win back his faith in the Pros.
Before Koichi could slip away, Jeanist binds his jacket into a straitjacket using his Fiber Master Quirk. The Crawler attempts to slide away and jump off the building, but Jeanist prevents him from falling with a web of threads using his Ultimate Move, Catching Cradle, while Edgeshot uses his Fishhook Snag to catch him. Koichi's restrains loosened up, and he uses this opportunity to slip out and escape.
Best Jeanist and Edgeshot are surprised at Koichi's skills, and the former admits that they have underestimated Koichi's sheer resolve. Edgeshot follows up that capturing a desparate opponent will be a challenge, as this means they won't be able to prioritize their well being. Best Jeanist agrees, but clarifies that, as Pro Heroes, excuses are beneath them, so they set out to capture The Crawler.[12]
As nighttime came, Number 6 cuts off all power in Naruhata by shooting an electromagnetic pulse into the sky.[13] Best Jeanist, Edgeshot, and Ingenium soon make it to Koichi and Eraser Head's location. Using a make-shift string phone, Best Jeanist reassures the public, and the heroes are met with cheers.[14]
At Naruhata Station, the Heroes gather intel on how dire the situation is, learning that the blackout extends for kilometers and the roads and railways are suspended. They notice the similarities to the Sky Egg incident, and prioritize making contact outside Naruhata, with Jeanist heading out to deal with the civilians' needs.
Koichi walks in and thanks the heroes for their help before attempting an escape, but is restrained by Eraser Head, effectively putting him under arrest. Best Jeanist and Edgeshot ask why he didn't leave when he had the chance, to which Koichi says that he wanted to thank the heroes. Eraser Head offers to watch over Koichi while he head to the hospital to link up with Naomasa, which they agree to.
While patrolling, Best Jeanist sees a civilian crying for help, and reaches out to assist. However, the civilian is actually one of Number 6's Anonymous, and Jeanist is caught off guard as they explode. Like him, the other heroes also fell into similar traps, leaving Koichi alone to deal with Number 6.[15]
During their fight, Number 6 absorbs the bomber cells of the remaining Anonymous, transforming into a gigantic flaming creature, causing great destruction through the streets of Naruhata in his obsession to destroy Koichi.[16] Although he ends up seriously injured, the young vigilante survives long enough not only for Best Jeanits to recover and reunite with Eraser Head, Edgeshot, and Ingenium; but also for a newscopter to broadcast what is happening, which will warn the rest of the heroes of the city. As they battle, the reporter in the newscopter uses a megaphone to inform the citizens to evacuate the area as soon as posible. Number 6 notices the copter and smack it, causing everyone to fall out of it. Koichi tries to jump for it, but realizes he won't make it in time to save them.
Just then, Best Jeanist arrives and immediately uses his Fiber Quirk to control the strands of the reporter's, cameraman's, and pilot's clothing to save their lives, while also grabbing ahold the megaphone with a thread. The Fiber Hero asks the citizens not to lose hope even in this terrible crisis, reminding them -with Edgeshot, Ingenium, and Eraser Head by his side- that the city still has its heroes.[17]
Best Jeanist addresses the concerned Naruhata citizens, reassuring them that aid is on the way. Koichi and Eraser Head keep Number 6 busy while the others try to evacuate the civilians, who keep cheering for Koichi. Suddenly, Number 6 pauses for a few seconds, then lets out a scream of rage before splitting out into smaller versions of himself that begin to explode all throughout the city.[18]
Little by little more heroes arrive to help both protect the citizens and to keep them safe from Number 6's mini bombers. One of the buildings was badly damaged by her suicide attacks and is about to crumble, but Best Jeanist uses the threads of her costume to stop a building from collapsing. People thank Best Jeanist for saving them only to be surprised to see him almost naked when using almost all the textile of his clothes.
In the blink of an eye, All Might arrives and hits all the mini bombers in the air in an instant, being completely destroyed by Endeavor with his Prominence Burn.[19] Best Jeanist and the rest of the Heroes proceed to assist in the cleanup in the aftermath of the Naruhata Lockdown, with Koichi being apprehended and taken to the hospital by Eraser Head.[20] By the next year, Best Jeanist overhears about the news of Koichi's escapades in America as Captain Celebrity's Sidekick, "The Skycrawler".[21]
Synopsis#
U.A. Sports Festival Arc#
Tsunagu watched the U.A. Sports Festival was impressed by the strength and skills that Katsuki Bakugo displayed during the event, but was unhappy with the boys aggressive behavior. After the Sports Festival, he sent Katsuki an offer for an internship.
Vs. Hero Killer Arc#
When Katsuki chooses him for an internship, Best Jeanist introduces himself by admitting he does not like people like Katsuki and acknowledges that Katsuki probably only chose him as a mentor because he is in the top 5. Irritated, Katsuki replies that Best Jeanist was the one who sent the offer to him. Best Jeanist tells him that all of his other recruits were well behaved, unlike him.[22] Although Best Jeanist admits that Katsuki has outstanding talent, he says the young man still needs to be taught how to display himself as a hero.
Irritated by the Pro Heroes lecture, Katsuki approaches Best Jeanist, forcing him to discipline Katsuki by using his Quirk to wrap him in denim threads, restraining him. Best Jeanist says that it's his job to correct people like Katsuki, vowing that by the end of their week together, Best Jeanist's ideology about appearance, speech, emotional control, and personal morals would be woven into Katsuki's very being.[23]
The next day, Best Jeanist tries to teach Katsuki the value of maintaining an elegant outward appearance. He tries lecturing Katsuki about the importance of good behavior and altered Katsuki's appearance to make him look less intimidating by combing his hair into a neat side part, similar to his own. This lead Katsuki to believe that he chose the wrong Hero to intern under. Katsuki's hair returns to its usual messy form shortly after.[24]
At some point during the internship, while Best Jeanist was combing his hair, he asked Katsuki about his hero name. He tells him that all the names he had chosen had been rejected. Best Jeanist tells him that an alias represents what he wants to be and what he ought to be, so he asks him, when he becomes a second-year student and received his Provisional Hero License, to return to him and tell him his name.[25]
After Hero Killer: Stain's defeat is published, Best Jeanist reminds all his sidekicks, including Katsuki, whose Hero costume had been changed by Best Jeanist, getting rid of his mask and Grenadier Bracers and having him wear a pair of smart denim jeans in place of his usual baggy pants, to remain calm and operate as they normally would.[26]
Later on, Best Jeanist takes Katsuki on patrol. He tells Katsuki that Hero patrols dissuade Villains from committing crimes and says there is another reason. He asks Katsuki if he know what this other reason is, to which he answers that it is because they can beat up criminals on sight if they do commit a crime. Best Jeanist says this answer is wrong and that patrols help heroes maintain a strong public image and give civilians peace of mind. To emphasize his point, Best Jeanist waved at a group of school girls, who swooned seeing one of the Top 5 Heroes wave at them. Katsuki ends up getting into a spat with young children, making Best Jeanist comment about Katsuki having too much pride.[27]
Hideout Raid Arc#
Following the abduction of Katsuki Bakugo, Best Jeanist is recruited by Detective Naomasa Tsukauchi. Naomasa enlists Best Jeanist to the Hideout Raid Team, a fighting force tasked with infiltrating the League of Villains hideout in Kamino Ward. Alongside Edgeshot, Endeavor, Gran Torino, Gang Orca, Tiger, Mt. Lady, Kamui Woods and All Might, Best Jeanist attends a strategy meeting to rescue Katsuki Bakugo from the villains. [28]
The Hideout Raid mission commences the next night. Just prior to the mission, Best Jeanist reminds Endeavor that he is an alumni when the latter complains about participating. Best Jeanist shares with everyone that he had Katsuki as an intern and worries that Katsuki's attitude might get him into trouble. Gang Orca is surprised that not even the elegant Fiber Hero could get through to him.[29]
Best Jeanist leads the second squad to the Nomu production factory. Gang Orca and Mt. Lady help him successfully secure all of the Nomu. Best Jeanist restrains the majority of them with denim strings using his Quirk.[30] Mt. Lady complains about the simplicity of their task, but Best Jeanist explains that the difficulty of the task doesn't take away from its importance.
The hideout team is interrupted when a shadowy figure appears from the dark and Best Jeanist quickly restrains the man by tightening the fibers of his clothes. Mt. Lady expresses concern for the man but Best Jeanist states he cannot give the villains any slack. The villain frees himself and aims a large explosion at Best Jeanist and the squad.[31]
Best Jeanist manipulates his allies' clothes and pulls them out of danger. He takes the brunt of the evildoer's blast and lies injured on the ground. The man levitates towards the Fiber Hero and commends his efforts to protect the other heroes. Best Jeanist recognizes the man as the leader of the League of Villains. He knows that this man's strength is comparable to All Might's, but believes that is no excuse not to act. Best Jeanist attacks, but is easily countered and crushed by an air cannon from All For One.[32]
Defeated, Best Jeanist falls unconscious. He's later rescued when All Might, Endeavor, Edgeshot, and Kamui Woods arrive to defeat All For One.[33]
Pro Hero Arc#
The second annual Hero Billboard Chart JP of the year takes place, but Best Jeanist is absent, and the announcer reveals to everyone he is taking a rest from his duties as a Hero for an extended amount of time.
It is also revealed he has climbed from No. 4 to the No. 3 spot due to his participation in the Kamino Ward Hideout Raid.[34]
Meta Liberation Army Arc#
At some point prior to the Revival Celebration, Best Jeanist meets up with Hawks, and discuss about his health. Best Jeanist reveals he had lost a lung during the Kamino Incident, and not even Recovery Girl's help can recover the missing organ. However, this loss does not make him give up his plans of returning to the public eye.
Hawks responds how unfortunate things have turned out before brandishing one of his blade feathers at Best Jeanist.[35] Later, it is revealed that Best Jeanist has gone missing, and that his sidekicks haven't heard from him in some time.[36] Later, Hawks meets Dabi at a secret location where he shows him what appears to be Best Jeanist's corpse. Dabi is a bit suspicious, but allows Hawks to join the Paranormal Liberation Front.[37]
Paranormal Liberation War Arc#
It is revealed that Hawks informed Best Jeanist of his mission from the Hero Public Safety Commission to act as a spy for the League of Villains. In order to gain their trust, Dabi assigned Hawks the task of killing a "big name" Pro Hero to prove his beliefs. Best Jeanist reluctantly agreed to go along with his ruse. Using the procedures at Central Hospital inspired by the Nomu, Best Jeanist was placed into a "death-like state", with his "corpse" taken to Dabi, which they kept around for future uses. When the day of the Paranormal Liberation War came to be, Hawks secretly reclaimed Jeanist's "corpse", returning it back to Central Hospital who revived him.[38]
After recovering, just as the fighting is reaching its zenith, Best Jeanist approaches Jaku City in his plane. Impatient, he asks the pilot if they have arrived yet, because he told her to get him there in five minutes. The pilot retorts that if she were Hawks or Mirko she would have, but this is the best she can do. She also tells him to sit down because it is getting dangerous on the ground and his body hasn't fully healed yet. Best Jeanist reminds the pilot that there are still people whose lives are at stake, so his own safety shouldn't be a priority.[39]
Before jumping out of the plane, Jeanist watches Dabi's pre-recording in which he reveals that he is Endeavor's son, Toya Todoroki, as well as his father's abuse. He also reveals that Hawks murdered Best Jeanist among other infamous actions and secrets.[40] Best Jeanist realizes he was waiting to unveil all of this dirty information when the Heroes couldn't prevent mass destruction and the people's faith was starting to waiver.[41] As Dabi prepares to finish Endeavor off, Jeanist stops the villain in his tracks by wrapping him with a wire, declaring that from now on, he's back on duty.[42]
Using the wires he brought with him, he successfully binds all of the Lieutenants of the Paranormal Liberation Front with his Quirk, including Gigantomachia and an unconscious Tomura. Dabi is in disbelief seeing him alive since he was positive Hawks brought him a dead body, but Best Jeanist declares that Dabi overreached with his ambitions and now he will come apart like inferior denim.
Dabi manages to free himself by burning the wires, facing his brother Shoto. Best Jeanist starts faltering but tries to stand his ground, refusing to allow the No. 1 Hero to fall here, as Tomura woke up and gave Machia an order to break free, causing the Hero to struggle. Some of the Near High-End Nomu decided to intervene and start approaching Best Jeanist's location with an intent to kill him. All of a sudden, Lemillion appears and knocks the Nomu away.[41]
The Nomus quickly recover from the blow, and prepare to attack Best Jeanist again, but this time Tenya, Nejire and Katsuki join Mirio to protect him. After they saved the Hero, Best Jeanist asks the falling Katsuki if he's experienced the world, calling him 'Bakugo', but Katsuki replies that that name was only temporary. He reveals that, starting today, his real hero name is "Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight". Best Jeanist thinks that it's a childish name.
Best Jeanist continues to use all his might to hold Gigantomachia down, but because of his monstrous strength and Best Jeanist still hasn't fully recovered, Gigantomachia is about to break free from Best Jeanist's fibers, but fortunately Endeavor uses every bit of strength to knock the giant back, knocking himself out as a result. Gigantomachia starts losing strength, and Mirio explains that the sedative that the U.A. students force fed into the behemoth earlier is finally working.[43]
With Gigantomachy weakened, Best Jeanist redirects his efforts to retain the League of Villains, a uses his Ultimate Move Blackout Bind to choke the members of the League in his grasp to knock them unconscious.[44] To his surprise, Mr. Compress uses his Quirk to gouge out a section of his own flesh, which gives his arm enough room to quickly escape and compress Tomura and Spinner.
Best Jeanist tries to take control of the fibers on his clothes to slow him down, saying that he has no hope of escaping with wounds that fatal, but Mr. Compress continues to use his Quirk to pop off parts of his body, as well as destroying his clothing. He also compresses Dabi and Skeptic.
Then Mr. Compress frees Tomura and Spinner,[45] asking the latter to wake up Tomura while he tries to buy time so they can escape as Mirio and Best Jeanist's cables charge toward them. Mirio easily defeats Mr. Compress, and between him and Best Jeanist they are about to catch Tomura and Spinner again. At that moment, All For One's consciousness takes possession of Tomura's body, and uses Radio Waves to blow Mirio, the cables, and all the other fighting heroes away, while also calls all the Near High-Ends for help.
The Nomu arrive quickly and proceed to grab "Tomura" and Spinner to make their getaway. Best Jeanist attempts to restrain them with the cables, while Nejire, Tenya and Mirio also trying to stop them, but they fail, and "Tomura" manages to escape along with Spinner and a large number of Near High-End Nomu.[46] Despite the surviving heroes' attempts to stop them, All For One and his allies manage to escape.
For the next two days, the hero society goes into a deep crisis like never seen before. Shortly after escaping the battlefield, All For One attacks several prisons, rescuing his original body from Tartarus and freeing numerous villains. With everything happening, many Heroes cannot withstand criticism and social pressure, so they decide to withdraw and close their agencies, leaving many places with little protection from the growing number of criminal acts.[47][48][49]
On the second day, Best Jeanist decides to accompany Hawks to his home, where his mother Tomie resides, taking him in her car. Hawks is still barely recovered from his injuries, needing a device to communicate with Best Jeanist. Along the way, they talk about how Best Jeanist managed to enter a state of apparent death to trick Dabi into allowing Hawks to enter the Paranormal Liberation Front.
Suddenly, Best Jeanist spots a group of Villains called the Glutton God Gang causing trouble at a marketplace. Best Jeanist steers his car and quickly defeats them. One of the bystanders thank him for apprehending the villains, as Best Jeanist asks him why the police or a local hero hadn't shown up. The bystander explains that the police are too busy with the prison breaks and most of the Pro Heroes have shut down their agencies after all the criticism being lobbed at them.
Best Jeanist ensures him that he will dispatch some of his sidekicks to protect the neighborhood, while he notices the civilians reactions. Among the crowd of civilians who congratulate him and thank him for his help, he sees several people seem upset, even hateful, towards the heroes. He even spots one of them wearing a support gear.
Afterwards, Hawks brings Best Jeanist to his house, wanting to confirm something before showing his face to the public again. He looks for his mother Tomie, only to discover that she had fled, leaving a farewell note, in which she apologizes to him since, as Hawks feared, she was forced to reveal everything she knows about her son Keigo Takami. Best Jeanist tries to console him but he tells him that when he abandoned the name ‘Takami', and admits he feels relieved all of this has come back to him, and now that the Safety Commission has shut down, there is no one else around to give him orders.
He says to Best Jeanist that when people get backed into a corner or are truly free, that is when they show their true nature, and it is because of that he considered Twice to be such a good person due to his desire to help others, and how he wants to be just like that. He comments that even if what Dabi said about the Todoroki Family is true, he deeply believes things are different now. When Best Jeanist asks what he plans on doing next, Hawks answers that he is going to address his origins to help Endeavor, who he definitely knows is in trouble.[50]
Best Jeanist and Hawks go to Central Hospital to talk to Enji Todoroki, waiting outside the room when he is with his family and listening to the conversation between him and his wife Rei about their son Toya, as well as the determination of the entire family to stop him.[51] Both heroes decide to enter the hospital room to speak with Endeavor, and apologizing for having eavesdropped on them, asking to help them in their proposed family outing. Rei kneels down and apologizes for what her son Toya did, which shocks both Best Jeanist and Hawks, who anxiously tells her not to worry about and apologize for eavesdropping them.
Hawks proceeds to inform Endeavor about everything that's happened within the past two days, and the terrible crisis that hero society is going through after All For One/Tomura Shigaraki managed to escape. After telling him his only option is to fight, Hawks and Best Jeanist gleefully respond that they'll be assisting him as a team-up with the top three, so he and his family don't have to take on the burden alone. Endeavor tearfully accepts their proposal and this new resolve to move forward. But before getting down to business, they first have to clear up the whole One For All and Izuku Midoriya thing.
Best Jeanist and Hawks head to the room where Izuku is resting, still unconscious and wounded from his battle against Tomura. Along the way, Best Jeanist sees that Katsuki is being dragged away by his classmates as he yells at Izuku to wake up. Relieved that he is lively as ever despite his injuries, Best Jeanist greets Katsuki, addressing him by his entire hero name. As they prepare to enter Izuku's room, Tenya Ida explains that All Might is with him alone.[52]
Both heroes knock on the door of the room, and Hawks asks All Might to talk to them as they want to know about the connection between Izuku Midoriya and the mysterious "One For All" that Tomura was so desperately trying to take over. All Might accepts his request, and after taking them to a more private area of the hospital, he decides to tell them everything.
Three days later, as people continue to feel uneasy, Endeavor, Hawks, and Best Jeanist put on a press conference to address the public. In addition to confirming and clarifying many of the accusations that Dabi made about Endeavor and Hawks, the three are aware of the lack of trust towards the heroes, especially after Tomura raided numerous prisons to free the villains held there after escaping from the battle.
Best Jeanist adds that due to the significant amount of heroes resigning, it's become harder to protect the public so they have started a plan for help protecting the civilians, in which many of the heroic institutions are going to be used as evacuation shelters for civilians in need.
Many of the reporters protest these measures, but the three assure that, despite the harsh criticism of the heroes, there are still many of them who keep fighting to restore peace.[53]
Dark Hero Arc#
Afterwards, Best Jeanist forms a team with Endeavor, Hawks, All Might, and Izuku Midoriya in order to track down Tomura, All For One, and the remnants of the Paranormal Liberation Front, coming up with a plan to use Izuku as bait to lure them out. While All Might and Deku are handling other villains, Best Jeanist goes with Endeavor and Hawks to cover more ground and deal with rampant criminals.[54]
Some time later, the three defeat and capture some robbers. After turning them over to the police, Endeavor meets with Hawks and Best Jeanist, with the latter assuming that the captured villains are escaped convicts but not affiliated with All For One, which Endeavor confirms. The three are then approached by a mob of protesters, who insult them and accuse them of being responsible for the current situation for letting Tomura get away and releasing the prisoners. Best Jeanist has to use his Fiber Master Quirk to protect himself and his teammates from the objects that are thrown at them with contempt. The protesters continue to deride them as fakes as they drive away.
While driving, Hawks receives a call from Edgeshot informing them that he hasn't made much progress in his investigation investigating the Paranormal Liberation Front. The three agree to give Izuku more space to prevent the press from finding out that he is the one the villains are looking for.
The Heroes proceed to discuss what the villains' have planned next, assuming the Tartarus escapees had received some orders from All For One to capture Izuku. Best Jeanist says that with the heroes falling apart, if he was All For One, he would go on the offensive, but Endeavor doubts All For One is going to do that at the moment, as his main priority is to hijack Tomura's body once the maturation process is complete, so he can take the One For All from Izuku.
Then Hawks admits he doesn't understand the reason of why Tomura's rage is so important to All For One in this process. Best Jeanist says that it takes a strong will to steal a Quirk bearing the will of eight other people, but Hawks replies that after hunting down OFA's successors for decades, All For One should have enough hatred. Best Jeanist believes maybe he doesn't have enough, but Hawks suggests he has none at all, since he is always seen smiling. Endeavor concludes that there may be something's missing in All For One's soul.
Nevertheless, since the villains they have rounded up have no useful intel, they decide they may have to take the fight to the enemy and increase their search, even if it means reducing the number of people keeping peace on the street. Suddenly, Best Jeanist hears a notification that Izuku's GPS signal is gone.
It turns out that Izuku was being attacked by one of All For One's assassins, Lady Nagant, who was Hawk's former mentor.[55] Izuku was outmatched, but he succeeded in defeating her, having a change of heart after witnessing Izuku's true heroism. However, All For One anticipated that Lady Nagant would be defeated, so he rigged a Self-Destruction Quirk inside of her as a failsafe. Thankfully, Hawks flies in on the scene and catches Lady Nagant,[56] while Endeavor follows behind. Before she passed out, Lady Nagant managed to reveal the location of All For One's supposed hideout in Haibori Woods.
The three heroes, along with Izuku and the Lurkers, arrive at the mansion that was the former headquarters of the Creature Rejection Clan, but find it completely empty. The only thing they find is a holographic video where All For One sarcastically taunting Izuku, vowing to break him both body and spirit just as the mansion explodes.[57] Fortunately, everyone is able to escape the trap unscathed, but the explosion destroys any trace of the League.
Some time later, Best Jeanist, Endeavor, Hawks, and the Lurkers meet privately in a warehouse, where they discuss how the search for All For One, Tomura, and their allies becomes more complicated as more heroes quit due to of not being able to withstand the pressure and criticism. Best Jeanist emphasizes that it has reached a point where any hero could snap anytime and it would not come as a shock.
Endeavor adds that the retired heroes are leaking information regarding One For All, and the public are getting close to uncovering the truth about Izuku. At that moment they receive a message that Izuku has defeated another of the All For One agents, but later they discover that he has decided to continue the search alone.[58]
After several days wandering alone, defeating villains and helping civilians, Izuku is found by his classmates and convinced to return to U.A. High School, but when he gets there there is a large group of people protesting, refugees who know that he is the rumored boy Tomura is looking for and reject his entry into the fortified U.A., as they fear that his presence will endanger them all.[59] Best Jeanist tries to calm everyone down, saying it was him who proposed his return, which causes complaints from several protesters, since they are there because they trusted him.
Best Jeanist explains that they wanted to take the fight to the enemy directly so they used Izuku to try and lure them out. Sadly, their search came up dry because they didn't have enough people. He admits Izuku is the villain's target, but he also considers him their best resource in battle and allowing him to grow even more tired will lead to more lives lost, which is why they are relying on this back up plan. He then pleads with the people to let Izuku stay so he can rejoin the battle in peak condition. The refugees, however, refuse to accept, protesting and complaining with even greater hostility towards the heroes and Izuku.
At that moment, Ochaco takes a megaphone to address everyone.[60] Best Jeanist, along with the rest of the heroes and students, listen to Ochaco's speech to the civilians, appealing to everyone to understand Izuku and let him rest in the U.A., reminding them that Izuku has been fighting all by himself for their sake, and now he, as well as the remaining heroes that are still fighting to protect them, needs their support. It works, as the people calm down and allow Izuku to go in.[61][62]
The next day, while Izuku rests, Best Jeanist goes out with Hawks again, while Endeavor flies close to them. While he is driving, the winged hero tells him that thanks to the information obtained from Garaki's interrogation, the confessions of the captured All For One agents, and the research of the Nomus in Central Hospital, they should still have at least a month to make their move and take the fight to All For One. However, thanks to the information received from Stain, they know things have changed, and in fact only have a few days until Tomura is complete.[63]
Star and Stripe Arc#
With this new information, All Might requests immediate aid from the foreign heroes to help fight. American No. 1 Hero, Star and Stripe, quickly accepts and makes her way over to Japan to rendezvous with the Top 3 team.
As Best Jeanist, Hawks, and Endeavor continue travelling to meet up with her, Hawks worries if she'll be alright for leaving so abruptly, and Best Jeanist tries to reassure him. They are suddenly informed by Naomasa that Tomura Shigaraki has come out to intercept her.[64]
This triggers an aerial battle between Star and "Tomura", which ends with Star's death, but not before using her Quirk New Order to deal heavy damage to "Tomura", destroying several of his Quirks and forcing him to flee.[65] Star's fellow pilots arrive in Japan, meeting Endeavor, Best Jeanist, and Hawks and informing them of the battle and Star's death. They try to track down "Tomura", but he was able to go back into hiding.
With the death of Star and Stripe, the rest of the nations preferred not to send help to Japan to keep their homelands protected. The only positive thing about the battle is that, thanks to the data and records obtained by the pilots about "Tomura", he ended so badly injured that he will need another week to recover and complete his body.[66]
U.A. Traitor Arc#
During the week, Yuga Aoyama is discovered to be a spy for All For One,[67] being captured along with his parents by Izuku. When questioning them, it is discovered that they are only agents of All For One because of the fear that he instilled in them.
Despite this, the heroes devise a plan to use Yuga and his parents against All For One,[68][69] in order to ambush him and separate him from Tomura Shigaraki so they can defeat them separately without being able to help each other.[70] When everything is ready, like the rest of the heroes, Best Jeanist is informed of the plan with which to definitively defeat the villains.[71]
My Hero Academia: You're Next#
While Class A carried out missions to combat and apprehend the Jailbreakers and villains running amok, Best Jeanist and other heroes are at U.A. headquarters, from where they directed the students and informed them of the latest incidents. After the students were sent to capture the villain Ginji Kurau, every communication network that are still functioning in the country, including the headquarters' mainframe computer, are hacked and begin broadcasting a group of foreing people on a flying yacht. What most astonishes Best Jeanist and his colleagues is that the leader of this group bears a striking physical resemblance to All Might.
The All Might impersonator begins a speech in which he declares that he is the new All Might and he has come to "save Japan" from their despair caused by the war and vows that he will use his strength and power to promote justice and become the next Symbol of Peace in honor of All Might’s god-like powers. His speech is interrupted by Izuku, who was in the area, who calls the imposter out with disgust over using violence and putting innocent civilians in danger, and that all he does is taint the legacy of the real All Might.
Determined to prove Izuku wrong, All Might impersonator touches a hypnotized woman called Anna Scervino, whose Overmodification quirk greatly enhances his Alchemy Quirk, allowing him to transform their floating ship into a massive fortress, consuming everything in its path, including U.A. students and hundreds of civilians, in an ocean of light. Upon watching this, Best Jeanist comments that it is a Quirk as powerful as All For One's.
At that moment, All Might arrives in the central room to get an update on the situation. Completely amazed, they witness through the headquarters' screens how the cloud of light grows larger and begins to take shape, turning into a massive All Might-themed floating fortress.
He is then informed that the villains have been identified: It is the Gollini Family, a powerful organization, the largest and most dangerous crime syndicate in Europe, consisting of Bruno, Kamile, Deborah, Paulo, Simon, Ugo and Gi, as well as numerous subordinates. They assume the imitator is their leader, Valdo Gollini.
Once the fortress is complete, Valdo makes a personal call to All Might at the U.A. headquarters. On video chat, Valdo seeks All Might's blessing to become the next Symbol of Peace. All Might demands him to release the civilians caught up by his web in the transformation, but Valdo refuses, claiming he needs the "specimens" to perfect his ideal future as the "Symbol." All Might curses Valdo for taking his ideals and twisting them in a dark way that would harm the innocents, vehemently expressing his disapproval. Valdo is initially shocked to hear this but decides to twist it around further and dub himself "Dark Might."
All Might refuses to allow Valdo to hand over the future of their shattered country to a villain and further reveals that he has already chosen his successor, and those in Class 1-A who are in the fortress will be the ones to stop him. Dark Might is excited to meet his successor and ends the call. The Counter Force starts to monitor the fortress which is moving east, consuming everything and everyone in its path.
While the heroes keep track of the fortress’ movement, inside it the students of Class A face the forces of Dark Might, managing to defeat several of his most powerful subordinates and rescue all civilians. As a result, Dark Might concludes that as long as people remember All Might's legacy and continue to be inspired by him, he will never become the new Symbol of Peace. So he must destroy that legacy by annihilating the remnants of the Heroes.
At the U.A. headquarters, trigger alarms when they notice the fortress' change in direction, and realize it is heading right towards the school. Principal Nezu states that the U.A. Barrier is essential for their plan to defeat Tomura Shigaraki and must be protected at all costs.
Best Jeanist and the Heroes head to the outskirts of the city to stage a counterattack against the fortress. Endeavor fires a full blast of his Prominence Burn, but the Heroes learn that the fortress repairs itself from any external damages they inflict, which means they can only stall time for Class 1-A to do their jobs. To help the evacuate the civilians, Mirio had managed to infiltrate the fortress thanks to his Permeation Quirk.
Several minutes later, he signals the Heroes outside of the civilians' location, so Endeavor unleashes Prominence Burn - Maximum Fire and Flare Circle to make a hole large enough for civilians to fall through, with all the Heroes waiting outside to catch and bring them to safety. Best Jeanist uses his Quirk to capture the civilians falling from the fortress.
Once the civilians are safe, Endeavor makes a hole large enough for many Heroes to move inside. Best Jeanist and many other heroes find the Class 1-A battling against the monsters conjured by the fortress. The heroes quickly come to the students' aid, with Best Jeanist lifting several monsters into the air with his Fiber Master Quirk.
Their help changes the tide and it seems they are going to prevail. However, the monsters merge into large, tree-like creatures while more of the regular monsters continue spawning in. The heroes and students keep fighting until the creatures begin to crumble and collapse, indicating that Izuku, Katsuki, and Shoto have successfully defeated Valdo. Meanwhile, Mirio locates and defeats Kamile, causing the fortress to fall from the sky.
When everything seems over, the heroes and students emerge from the ruins to take care of the wounded, but suddenly, the fortress starts to repair itself as Anna’s Quirk goes berserk, causing her to consume everything in the battlefield, including Dark Might. Still affected by Anna's Overmodification, Valdo Gollini regains consciousness and uses her enhanced properties to turn himself into a colossal monster, using the fortress to repair a new body.
While Izuku, Shoto and Katsuki fight back against Dark Might, an ally named Giulio manages to touch her, and thanks to Anna's Overmodification, his own Neutralization Quirk becomes greatly enhanced, allowing him to overcome his limits and then use it on Anna. With Valdo vulnerable, Izuku, Katsuki, and Shoto, attack the Villain and unleash their most powerful moves, defeating him and destroying the entire fortress.
With the Gollini Family defeated, the U.A. Shelter is safe, and everyone cheers on the Heroes and Class 1-A for their valiant victory.[72]
Final War Arc#
Best Jeanist is assigned to the team to directly face Tomura Shigaraki, accompanied by Edgeshot, Mirko, Nejire Hado, Tamaki Amajiki, Katsuki, and Izuku. Days prior to the start of the Final War, the team met up at Troy to discuss their plan of attack. Their plan is to warp Tomura to a floating U.A. High, to keep him contained and minimize his damage potential.
Best Jeanist informs everyone how Tomura's bound to strike at U.A., and they must not allow him to touch the ground, as well as making sure they are all aware in what they seek to protect. The others presume he is talking about the civilians and collateral damage, but Jeanist clarifies he's referring to the issue of Tomura's personality, noting they would prefer to deal with the All For One persona, who seeks to dominate over living subjects, while Tomura simply wants to destroy everything.
With his strength and hatred brewing inside of him, his desire for destruction may direct itself toward the Earth itself, and states that in a world where they emerge victorious, even if they stood their ground and rose back up from dire straits, it will all be for nothing without a foundation to stand on, and reiterates what it is they must protect.[73]
On the day of the operation, with Izuku and Yuga as bait, the heroes manage to lure All For One into a designated area of their trap. All For One uses his Warping Quirk to summon an army of villains, including "Tomura", to the area, but the Heroes anticipated this action, and the remaining Heroes are teleported through several Warp Gates, created by Neito Monoma, who had copied Kurogiri's Quirk.
The Heroes then activate cages hidden beneath the battlefield, holding the villains long enough for Neito to summon several more Warp Gates around the cages,[74][75] allowing the Heroes to shove them all in, splitting up the villains into different parts of the country, separated from each other by hundreds of kilometres.
As planned, "Tomura" is warped alone to a now floating and enclosed U.A. High, where Best Jeanist is awaiting the rest of the hero team. However, an unforeseen event occurred during the struggle, and Katsuki reports to Best Jeanist that Izuku was unintentionally warped to another place.[76] Best Jeanist and other heroes are dismayed by this unforeseen event, but Mirko doesn't seem to care, saying that the only thing they have to do is going toe-to-toe with "Tomura".
Realizing that they are on some kind of floating island, "Tomura" decides to use his Decay on the ground to destroy it, but as soon as he does, a self-defense system activates, detaching the affected area and launching him into the electromagnetic barrier above, where he is electrocuted. Not giving him time to recover, Best Jeanist wraps the immobilized "Tomura" with several metal wires using Fiber Master and toss him back onto the battlefield, while telling Tomura that even with his modified body he can be momentarily stunned by such an electric shock.
"Tomura" breaks free of the bonds, and mocks the heroes saying that even with such a defense system, sooner or later they will run out of ground to stand on. Best Jeanist points out that the detached area has already been replaced, assuring him that they have plenty of material to spare. Best Jeanist claims that this "Coffin in the Sky" built out of the school grounds has been specifically designed to defeat him and that they are there to end the threat he poses.
"Tomura" then decides to destroy the barrier with a shockwave blast, but realizes that he cannot use any of his Quirks, as Neito is stationed on a floating platform outside the barrier and and constantly using Erasure on him, as he touches Shota to constantly reset his time limit on Copy, while having his eyes hydrated by Manual to prevent him from blinking.
Believing they have the upper hand, Mirko pounces on "Tomura", but he takes everyone off-guard by transforming his left arm into a monstrous blob of fingers and slams her.[77]
The heroes are shocked to see the grotesque swarm of fingers spreading further and further throughout the arena, swamping the entire battlefield and the Heroes taking him on. This new attack by 'Tomura' isn't due to a Quirk, as Neito still has the Eraser active. The villain explains that his body is mutating and transforming under the pressure of the Quirk's Singularity Theory, as it adapts to his ever-evolving Quirks.
Despite the blow, Mirko suffered no relevant damage except for the loss of her prosthetic limbs, which she quickly replaced. After She and Katsuki get into an argument over who's in charge, Best Jeanist yells at his teammates to stay focused. As the others fighting inside the Coffin in the Sky try to take control of "Tomura's" new development, Mandalay arrives to warn that they have received a message from Izuku requesting a Warp Gate to his designated battlefield, since he was dragged to Okuto Island by Himiko.
However, Best Jeanist, as well as Edgeshot and Eraser Head, understand that this is not possible. Neito is unable to use two Quirks at once, and if he disables Erasure to use Warp Gate for even a few seconds, "Tomura" will be able to use Decay through each of his endlessly growing wave of fingers, finishing them all. With no other choice, Shota apologizes to his student and him to get where they are on his own. Until then, Best Jeanist claims that they will strive to defeat "Tomura", even without One For All.[78]
The Heroes all push through to fight against and defend themselves against Tomura's fingers, with Best Jeanist telling everyone to keep moving and not let the fingers swallow them up so they can reach the main body. He also mentions that, while the hands are a problem, they have caused "Tomura" to suffer a significant loss of mobility, which they can exploit by maintaining their momentum, so they should focus on attacking the main body.
The Villain, on the other hand, takes his precious time to monologue to the Heroes about how his power and new body will help him further his goal of having everyone under his sole subjugation, creating his own twisted sense of "equalization" where misunderstanding doesn't breed fear and rejection, and likens to the world the Heroes are fighting for.
After "Tomura" pontificates on his intentions on what he plans to do with his power, Katsuki decides to face him head-on, unleashing his Strafe Panzer support item and going on the assault blasting Explosions all over that obliterates the tide of fingers on his way. Best Jeanist looks on in awe at Katsuki's drive, calling out to him by his hero name. Ramming toward "Tomura", Katsuki unleashes his Ultimate Move, Howitzer Impact: Cluster,[79] creating an explosion so powerful that it shakes the entire structure where they are fighting.
Unfortunately, it is not enough and "Tomura" is able to rebuff most of the attack after realizing how it work, breaking Katsuki's right arm. Best Jeanist, Mirko, and Edgeshot rush to rescue him, but "Tomura" mocks them, asking who thought it was smart to try and get up close to him, knocking Dynamight to the side and quickly trouncing them, giving them a taste of his his "All Might-level" power.[80]
"Tomura" continues to assault Katsuki, with the intent of killing him for Izuku, when the Big 3 intervene, with Mirio rescuing Katsuki by throwing him to Best Jeanist for safety. While they fight "Tomura", Best Jeanist takes Katsuki to the side, intending to sow up his arm since they still need his fire power, before he notices the boy tearing up.
Seeing Katsuki's face of near defeat, he reiterates his concern, telling him not to fret over his failure since he fought so well, but "Tomura" has reached a level where his training and combat experience can't do much at this point. Best Jeanist then flinches as he hears Katsuki muttering attack positions under his breath while small sparks of sweat drip off his body, astonished that the boy still has the drive to keep fighting after all that's transpired.[81]
"Tomura" decides to not waste any more time before his new bodily complications worsen and starts walking away from Lemillion and re-focuses on the still downed Katsuki. Best Jeanist prepares to protect him with all his might, while "Tomura" mockingly tells him to not to push himself too hard, as he received a very strong blow and is now struggling to remain conscious. Recalling Best Jeanist's words about having built that place to counteract his powers, "Tomura" declares that they ended up building their own tomb instead.[82]
The Big 3 continue attacking "Tomura" and attempt to put him down for good using a Plasma Cannon created by Tamaki, but it still proves fruitless in halting "Tomura", who strikes back, and Best Jeanist has to use a metal wire to move Tamaki out of the attack range. Tomura taunts them for thinking such an attack would be enough to defeat him, but he falls silent when he notices Katsuki standing up. The boy, with blood gushing out of his head and fighting to stay alert, tells Best Jeanist to take care of the others and advances toward "Tomura".
The hero tries to stop him but Katsuki blasts his way forward to villain, shocking everyone by moving and blasting Tomura at an imperceptible speed, thanks to his Quirk evolving. The villain strikes back, but Best Jeanist is surprised to see that Katsuki was able to see it coming and dodge it. Katsuki bears the excruciating pain as he continues to strategically assault and outmaneuver "Tomura", who becomes further enraged at being unable to put him down so easily.
Unfortunately, this maneuverability doesn't last forever, leaving Katsuki momentarily defenseless, which Tomura takes advantage of. Best Jeanits and the rest of the team try to save Katsuki, but "Tomura" lands a devastating blow on the boy with his transformed right arm and sends him careening into the dirt.
Best Jeanist rushes over to aid his protégé, but recoils in horror when he sees his lifeless body lying on the ground with a hole in his chest.[83] He observes with anguish that Katsuki has no pulse due his heart being ravaged. "Tomura" taunts them about Katsuki's death being their fault, and he asks who is next.[84]
While Mirko and Mirio try to hold "Tomura" off, Best Jeanist sends an array of fibers into Katsuki's chest wound to stitch up the internal injuries and stop the bleeding. An exhausted Edgeshot then approaches them, saying that as the ninja hero, he has crept into so many bodies and is familiar with it all. He tells Best Jeanist that Katsuki has a chance of living, if he uses his Foldabody Quirk to replace the missing chunks of his heart and lungs, while jumpstarting the boy's circulatory and respiratory systems from the inside.
He calls out to Mirko telling her to continue to struggle, and declaring that the heart that stopped is a life they can't afford to lose, using his Quirk to enter Katsuki's body. "Tomura" sees their attempt to revive Katsuki and tells him it's useless. Best Jeanist, who was Edgeshot's classmate and club president back in U.A., tells the man that this plan of his is suicide. Edgeshot accepts his fate, and tells his ally that he'll leave the rest to him, referring to him as "Club President Hakamada".
Edgeshot proceeds to unleash his Ninpo: Thousand Sheet Pierce - Zenith, transforming into an extremely fine thread that is introduced into Katsuki's body to begin resuscitating him.[2]
"Tomura" tells the men that it's futile since the boy's body has been thoroughly destroyed, but Best Jeanist continues to protect Katsuki's body as Edgeshot works to heal him from the inside, all the while "Tomura" acts out in rage and lunges forward to try and stop them. Mirko busts in to stop him, even at the cost of having her right arm bitten off by the bodily mass, with Jeanist using his fibers to wrap up the injury while she continues her assault. Mirko and Mirio keep Tomura busy, but that still proves not enough as Tomura undergoes another transformation.[85]
Now transformed into a more muscular build, where giant fingers shield his legs, torso, and head, "Tomura" decimates Mirko, Tamaki and Nejire Chan before he continues dismissing Mirio and runs to where Dynamight is lying and being operated on, so Best Jeanist and Edgeshot won't keep undoing the thing he just destroyed. Best Jeanist uses his carbon fibers to hold him down, wondering if this new form is the conclusion he's reached. Mirio continues to try and attack but "Tomura" brushes him off like nothing and keeps charging toward Best Jeanist.
Just then, the remaining active Heroes receive a telepathic call from Mandalay, saying that they'll need to lift the electromagnetic barrier, so they need two seconds to hold him down. "Tomura" is right on top of Best Jeanist as the message finishes, and the pro hero pushes himself to his limit to try and restrain him, but realizes that is still way too long.
Thankfully, Mirio is able to distract "Tomura" long enough by mooning him, giving them just enough time to open the barrier, allowing Izuku to finally return to the fight, smacking "Tomura" to the ground.[86] Izuku is initially thrown into shock by seeing everyone's comatose bodies, until Mirio is able to calm him down, giving him the chance to confront "Tomura".[87] The Hero and Villain proceed to duke it out in battle while Mirio helps escort the injured Heroes off the battlefield, with Best Jeanist continuing to protect and mend Katsuki's body.[88]
A series of events on the various battlefronts cause Kurogiri to interfere in the war, the Coffing in the Sky to finally be unable to continue flying and must land, and All For One to fly directly from the battlefield where he was to where Tomura is. Best Jeanist can no longer continue fighting, but fortunately Katsuki recovered after Edgeshot successfully resuscitated him back to life, jumpstarting his heart, allowing Katsuki to blast off and fight All For One in a final battle.[89]
As Katsuki defeats All For One until the villain rewound into nonexistence, Best Jeanist was out of the remainder of the final battle where Shota is gathering an army of heroes to teleport to Mt. Fuji where the final battle between Izuku and Tomura is occurring.[90] As the Heroes assembled before "All For One", the villain unleashes an onslaught of attacks to kill as many heroes as he could, but the Heroes repel every single one of them, protecting Izuku until he comes close and delivers the final Smash right through his chest.[91]
Eventually, Izuku manages to defeat Tomura once and for all before the villain succumbs to his injuries and dies as his body disintegrates into ashes.[92]
Epilogue Arc#
In the weeks following the end of the Final War, Japan's reconstruction efforts proceed at a breakneck pace thanks to the arrival of Heroes from around the world to provide support to the local's, and resources for the country's rescue and rebuilding.[93] After recovering from his injuries, Best Jeanist assists with the reconstruction work.
Several days later, Class A, now in their second year, heads out to the city in costume to assist in demolish and repair a section of buildings, spearheaded by Fat Gum and Best Jeanist, who give them a warm welcome. Several students are quite excited about working with the BMI Hero, who mentions that Suneater is now officially his sidekick. Best Jeanist interrupts them to immediately put the class to work. With plenty of motivation and perfect synergy, the Heroes waste no time in fixing the place up.
Katsuki is among the students, and he takes his work slowly because he hasn't fully recovered from his injuries yet, something Best Jeanist notices, and tells him it would have been better if he had just sat down and rested. Katsuki notices Edgeshot also there, still a tiny thread, but slowly recovering, and the hero confidently says from the outset he intended to seize the day and triumph, making Katsuki smile. [94]
Eight years after the end of the Final War, Best Jeanist continues to be a Hero and remains in the Top 10 in the Hero Billboard Chart as the no. 5 Hero.[95] During that time, Katsuki also became a pro hero, albeit one with a somewhat bad reputation due to his rough and aggressive attitude. Even so, he sometimes hangs out with Best Jeanist and Edgeshot.[96]
