ArticleSource revision

The Day Of is the eleventh episode of the My Hero Academia: Vigilantes anime.

Summary#

Koichi and Kazuho meet up with Makoto at the Marukane Department Store, with the boy posing as Pop☆Step's manager, in order to kick off their first day of planning for the store's outdoor event known as Narufest. Makoto then introduces the pair to Miu and Yu, twins that make up the idol duo Feathers. After Kazuho nervously greets the girls and introduces herself by her stage name, Makoto tells the four to relax while the other performers make their way to the meeting room.

The twins then take the time to cruelly gossip under their breath about Pop dressing in street clothes to their first meeting, which the girl nervously shrinks up at due to her already potent performance anxiety. Shortly after, the East Naruhata High Dance Squad walks in and greets Makoto. The manager notes that the group didn't fill out their paperwork in regard to costuming, with the squad captain explaining that their star power lies solely in the heart, technique, and strength of their dancing, and any fancy outfits will hamper their flexible moves.

As Makoto thinks it over, she hears the next performing group arguing outside: the Mad Hatters. Their leader is whining about how his rock band is selling out and performing below their level by doing a gig like this, with his grievances being caught by the dance squad captain as he enters the meeting room.

As the girl prepares to curse out the band for disrespecting their event, both she and the leader stop dead in their tracks upon getting a proper look at one another, and a mutual infatuation immediately sparks. The band leader instantly calms down, and the squad captain changes her mind about not having pretty costumes, which Makoto excitedly takes note of.

With everyone arrived and seated, Makoto goes over the stage plan with everyone. While the Mad Hatters and the Dance Squad are easy to place around, the young woman's main concern is how Feathers and Pop☆Step's work will be balanced. The manager suggests putting Pop in the center with the twins surrounding, but the duo complains, on the grounds that they didn't sign up to be the street idol's backup dancers and the fact that she's a mediocre singer. Makoto agrees on their stance on Pop's vocals, which bewilders the young Vigilante, but the college student still wants to make use of her superior stage presence and her natural draw of large crowds.

She decides to put a pin in it for the time being and gives all the lead performers their assignments for the next week. Pop is assigned with practicing the song on her own, and Feathers is assigned for dance and stage movement training under the squad captain, with the week afterward being spent on examining the polishing the results. After dismissing the performers and leaving to deal with the stage setup, Makoto tells the group to give it their all and make the most of their work, as they're the stars of the show.

Back at the Penthouse, Kazuho is sent the score and instrumentals to her cellphone. Koichi is glad she's pumped to start practicing and is rooting for her to take center stage, and the girl says she's forced to aim for it as otherwise she'd be Leaping on the side and sticking out in a bad way. The young man says she's free to use his place as much as she wants to get her routine down.

A few days later, a colossal moth larva-like Villain is crawling up a tower, before it is taken down in one shot by Captain Celebrity. As the civilians cheer for the Hero's work, the man takes a moment to spread the word about Narufest, with some aid by Ichimoku, Jube, and his entourage tossing flyers around.

Eventually, the training week passes, though Miu unfortunately tripped and sprained her ankle during her training with the dance squad. While the girl's injury will heal before the show, she'd be unable to do any strenuous movement onstage. The captain apologizes for her negligence in training Feathers, but Makoto tells her that it's her responsibility to keep the talent safe and says that pushing everyone to challenge themselves caused problems in the end.

With one of their leads compromised, Makoto debates on either putting Pop☆Step in the center while the Feathers girls sing and stay still on the side, or cut Miu from the show entirely and make a duet with the remaining girls. The injured girl begins to tear up from the prospect of being benched for the event, but Kazuho steps up and suggests putting Miu in the center to keep her on the team.

Makoto is on board with the idea, and plans on keeping Miu at the center, with Yu doubling up on stage movement to cover for her sister, and Pop leaping from behind to cover everyone during transitions, and keep the audience occupied. Feathers accepts the alternate setup, and Kazuho says they'd be left with a tone-deaf performer who can't even jump if she was the one who got hurt. The young idol wants all three of them to focus on what they're best at onstage, which makes Miu tear up.

As the Dance Squad leader begins to discuss the reworked choreography, the lead musician of the Mad Hatters walks in and gawks at her, especially her newly cut short hair. While the man wants to keep quiet and prevent any distractions, Koichi pipes up and points out the girl's shorter hair and accidentally insults her by noting the volume and the fact that he couldn't recognize her at first. The captain sulks and the other performers leer at Koichi, with the college student totally lost on what he said to upset her.

Later in the night, Kuin opens a storage garage, while handling and mulling over a flier for Narufest. Focusing on the advertised surprise appearance of several Pro Heroes, Kuin proclaims that she wants to spice things up with a sudden encounter with a Villain. She then tosses a flier to the mucus-coated pavement in front of a restrained Teruo, who has somehow been transformed in a gigantic, muscular eel monster that only whispers Pop☆Step's name. The Villain marvels at his "excitement" for the event, and tells Teruo to go make Pop proud.

A week later, the day of the event arrives, and the daytime show of Narufest ends with a solo performed by the Enka singer Harusaburo Nanboku. Present Mic strolls on stage and tells the audience to stick around, highlighting the guest appearances of his fellow Heroes and the nighttime stage show with Pop's group, now going under the group name FeatherHATS.

Miu notifies the green room about the schedule shift and tells everyone that they have a half hour before they need to go onstage. Pop's stage fright starts flaring up again, and Koichi's attempts to give her some encouragement backfires as Miu punches the young man for giving the idol another generic compliment. The Dance Squad captain, now in full makeup and costume, then chimes in to calm everyone's nerves. Koichi once again kills the mood and angers the performers with his "compliment" to the captain, by saying anyone can look great in the right clothes.

The R-Rated Hero Midnight then walks in to "compliment" the group in getting their "youthly hormones" out by squabbling. Koichi is surprised to see the Hero and comments on her sexiness, which earns him a punch in the arm by Pop. Makoto approaches the Hero and apologizes for the lack of separate green rooms for regular staff and Heroes, but Midnight doesn't mind since the atmosphere reminds of being backstage at a school festival. Present Mic then walks in and loudly greets Midnight, with the woman telling him to knock it off while addressing him by his real name.

She then asks the other Hero if he told Eraser Head about the festival, since every Hero present during that mass Instant Villain outbreak was asked to attend Narufest. Of the handful, Endeavor declined due to thinking the event's dumb, Ingenium's schedule was too full, and according to Naomasa, All Might is unable to attend. Present Mic relays that Eraser Head said he might make an appearance, but Midnight writes it off as a definite "no".

Out in the streets, the underground Hero loosely promises to show up to the event over the phone. The man isn't too thrilled to attend, since he's not into self-promotion, and believes it more worthwhile to crowdfund donations for urban renewal than hold a large-scale show. Eraser Head then sarcastically hopes a Villain shows up, so he'd have a legitimate reason to cancel, and soon smiles and springs into action immediately when he hears a man scream that a Villain is in the area.

The perpetrator is the newly mutated Teruo, aimlessly stumbling through the streets and crying out for Pop☆Step. Eraser Head notes that he doesn't appear accustomed to moving in his body and guesses that Teruo has a Transformation Quirk or is another Instant Villain. The man quickly maneuvers around the Villain and binds Teruo with his Capturing Weapon before using his Erasure on the monster. Teruo's body doesn't change whatsoever, which makes Eraser Head rule out his form as some type of conditional ability.

The gigantic, rampaging Teruo then slips out of his bindings thanks to the mucus coating his skin, and the Hero is unable to land any solid blows on him for the same reason. Eraser Head then changes his approach and wraps his scarf around several lampposts, quickly ensnaring the Villain once more with a makeshift net. Teruo then looks up at the Marukane Department Store and cries out for Pop; Kuin, watching from above, says that her test subject has to work hard to grab his favorite idol's attention.

Teruo then breaks out of his net and expels an ocean of bio-electricity, thanks to his Eel Quirk now being upgraded to the more powerful Electric Eel. Eraser Head can't fight him off since it's too bright to see, and steps back as the electricity causes a city-wide blackout. With Naruhata now shrouded in darkness, Kuin congratulates the boy's work and looks at the store's roof, itching to send out her worker bees to raid Narufest.

However, she then gets a call from her boss, advising her against it as to not draw too much attention to themselves and risk a premature end to their operation. Kuin reluctantly follows her superior's orders and cancels her attack on the festival, but whines about how much she hates being lectured.

Suddenly, Knuckleduster crawls out the darkness and stands face-to-face with Kuin, saying he doesn't blame her since she's at the age where someone like her hates being negged by grownups. The Vigilante says he wants to cut to the chase and make their confrontation quick, but Kuin tells him to buzz off and leave her alone.

Knuckleduster responds by pulling out his Taser Knuckle, a large knuckle stun, and tells Tamao Oguro that he's going home with him and her mother. The part-time Villain nonchalantly says she has no idea what he's talking about and that he's got the wrong girl, which makes Knuckleduster yell out that he's talking to his daughter and not the "Bee User".

Kuin then drops the act and cackles, as Knuckleduster dives in for a right hook with his new weapon. The Villain easily dodges his attack and the subsequent ones, noting his sluggish speed and wondering if the older man brought that weapon and is pulling his punches to minimize the damage he could inflict on his child.

Knuckleduster than attacks Kuin with his left hand, forcing her to jump back as her cheek's sliced by his brass knuckles. She angrily wonders what's the point in extra weaponry if he's still going to use his main weapon on her. The Vigilante maniacally says that he doesn't plan on using the stun gun, as its increased voltage and amperage could easily ravage her body and stop her heart if Kuin gets too close.

Enraged, the Villain sends out a swarm of her bees, which doesn't faze Knuckleduster since he knows their abdomens are vials full of Trigger, and the fastest way to defeat a colony of bees is to take out their queen. The insects then charge into Knuckleduster and start violently detonating, revealing them to be Kuin's specialized Bomb Bees, whose syringes are redesigned with fuses and filled with explosive chemicals.

The man easily crawls out of the smoke, saying that the first bee was strong enough to resemble an actual bomb and the others were basically light fireworks, figuring out that producing those bees takes some kind of toll on Kuin's body and prolonged creation weakens their abilities over time.

With no more cards to play, the Villain jumps off the railing and runs off into the night, saying the Vigilante can't hit what he can't catch. Knuckleduster comments that its fine by him to play tag with her, as he gives chase and swings out his grappling hook, coasting across the blackened city in pursuit of the Villain and wondering just how far she can run from him.
