Prominence Burn, full name Flashfire Fist: Prominence Burn,[1][2] is an Ultimate Move performed by Endeavor and Dabi using the Hellflame and Blueflame Quirks, respectively.
Description#
Prominence Burn appears to be the most powerful technique in Endeavor's arsenal. He uses the full might of his flames to emit a concentrated beam of heat from his body that is used to vaporize his target. Alternatively, Prominence Burn can be used in close quarters by focusing the effect around the user to incinerate anything within a small radius, sacrificing range in exchange for a near inability to dodge the attack.
This move is so powerful that it completely overpowered Hood's Super Regeneration Quirk, with the powerful Nomu only surviving the initial attack by moving its head out of range, allowing it to heal afterwards.[3] However, the Nomu was completely incinerated the second time Endeavor landed the attack, this time at point-blank range.[4]
During the Paranormal Liberation War, Endeavor uses Hell Spider and Prominence Burn at the same time to attack Tomura Shigaraki, but he dodges it.[5] Later, Endeavor uses only Prominence Burn to finish Tomura off, which leaves him completely burned; however, before he can be killed, All For One takes over his body and skewers Endeavor with Rivet Stab to make him stop.[6]
When Endeavor and the other Pro Heroes attempted to infiltrate the Symbol of Paradise during the Gollini Invasion, he uses the move once more, at maximum firepower, to try and blow an entry point into the fortress. Later, he succeeds by switching to a PLUS ULTRA Prominence Burn on the structure and following it up with a Flare Circle.[7]
Endeavor uses this move once more, this time against All For One himself, during the Final War. As a result, All For One's body is left completely charred, but this is quickly undone when he uses the Rewind Drug to restore his body to its former glory.[8]
Endeavor wished to pass down Prominence Burn to his sons Toya and Shoto Todoroki.[9] This goal was only partially fulfilled, as Toya, now known as Dabi, was shown to know the move, but was interrupted by Best Jeanist before he could use it.[1]
Variations#
PLUS ULTRA Prominence Burn: Going beyond his limit and grappling his target, Endeavor unleashes a Prominence Burn that is more powerful than the original, enabling him to put away villains like the High-End Nomu, Hood.[4][10] He uses this move once more in his fight with Tomura Shigaraki before getting stabbed after All For One gains control.[11] He later uses this move again, without the grapple, to damage the Gollini Family's flying fortress, before transitioning into a Flare Circle.[7]
Trivia#
- The name "Prominence Burn" likely comes from the stellar phenomena of solar prominence, a low-energy gas eruption from the Sun's surface that extends kilometers into space.
- Dabi's final attack, where he attempted to condense immense amounts of heat within himself in order to release a cataclysmic explosion of fire, resembles an extreme version of the close-range variant of this move.
