Full Cowl, full name One For All: Full Cowl, is an Ultimate Move performed by Deku using the One For All Quirk.
Description#
During his internship with Gran Torino, Deku developed a way to stop relying on One For All as a special move and damaging his body in the process. He learns to spread the power across his body evenly, rather than focusing his Quirk on one section at a time.[1] When Deku activates Full Cowl, red, vein-like lines course throughout his body that coincides with the energy flowing through him. When fully active, his body and eyes start to glow with a green, bio-electric aura.
In addition to reducing the strain caused by One For All, the technique gives Deku a much wider variety of options in combat. Since the power is spread throughout his whole body, he doesn't need to waste time rechanneling the power from one body part to another. Full Cowl gives Deku much greater reflexes, maneuverability, and enhanced strength. His increased mobility allows him to scale buildings with ease and clear large jumps. By studying Gran Torino and Katsuki Bakugo, Deku learned how to propel himself through the air using the same style of movement. This allowed him to locate Tenya Ida in Hosu City by searching throughout the area very quickly.[2] His mobility even allowed him to outpace Hanta Sero during a race, whose Tape Quirk also provides great mobility. His new capabilities left his other classmates in awe.[3]
Deku displays increased reflexes during a sparring match with Gran Torino, where he was able to read and evade his teacher's movements. Before developing Full Cowl, Deku was completely incapable of matching Gran Torino's speed.[4]
Deku began using Full Cowl at 5% of One For All to prevent injuring himself. His overall limit increased to 8% after inventing Full Cowl - Shoot Style and fighting with Katsuki.[5] Deku can freely adjust the percentage of One For All at any time, but going over his limit will cause damage to his body.
Deku has also combined Full Cowl with Tenya's Recipro Burst and Eijiro Kirishima's Hardening Quirk to break through a wall and launch themselves on Shoto Todoroki's ice ramp to fly across the battle field while rescuing Katsuki.[6]
Deku was able to draw out 20% of One For All without breaking any bones during his fight against Overhaul. However, he was only able to maintain 20% for a limited time, as it caused great strain on his body. By training with All Might, Deku learned to draw out between 20% momentarily in order to utilize wind pressure for long-ranged attacks. Later on, Deku managed to increase his limit to 10-15% without any extraneous load on his body.[7]
By the start of the Paranormal Liberation War, Deku improved his limit to 30% with the extraneous usage limit of 45% of his full power.[8]
When he uses it against Tomura during the Final War, Deku's appearance shares a few similarities with using Full Cowl - 100%. While his skin and electric aura stays the same, likely due to his improved handling of the Quirk, this move now shares the 100% form's spiked hair and distorted irises, which are now surrounding by a stream of energy pooling around his sclerae and jagged "energy tears" that shed around his eyeballs.
Variations#
Full Cowl - Shoot Style: Deku's developed method of using Full Cowl. Instead of using his arms, he uses his naturally stronger legs, which hold up better against One For All's power.[9]
Full Cowl - 100%: Deku increases One For All's power levels throughout his body to the maximum, increasing his strength, speed, and raw power to the limit, allowing him to effortlessly defeat large-scale villains such as Overhaul.[10]
