Day Dream is the Quirk used by Deborah Gollini.[1]
Description#
Day Dream allows the user to make any person they look at fall unconscious or be put into a controllable, hypnotic state for a short period of time. Once they are locked onto a target just by sight alone, the victim's mind will be stuck in a dream-like world where they live out their deepest fantasies and desires, rendering them nearly comatose. The victim's eyes also turn pure white.
The user also seems capable of telepathically seeing the dreams of their victims, as seen when Deborah was able to uncover Giulio Gandini's backstory as Anna Scervino's butler by looking into his fantasy. It also causes the user's eyes to glow red.
Under normal conditions, Deborah is only able to activate her Quirk on one person at a time, but when her Quirk Factor is amplified by Overmodification, she can use it on a near endless amount of people.[2]
Weaknesses#
The Quirk requires Deborah to be able to see her target and can only work on one person at a time. However, if she gets a boost from Overmodification, she can affect large numbers of people at once. The Quirk's effects can be lifted off its victims if Deborah sustains a significant injury in the real world.
The victims of Day Dream are also capable of breaking free from their fantasy if they are made aware of the fact by another person, and become capable of manipulating their body in the real world to a limited extent.
Furthermore, should the person affected by Day Dream contain another person's consciousness within them, these personalities will not be affected by the Quirk and will be able to free the victim from the illusion, as seen when the One For All Vestiges freed Izuku Midoriya from the dream fantasy he was trapped in, which allowed him to move freely through the psychosomatic world.
Her Quirk also doesn't prevent artificial body parts from acting independently in the real world, as Giulio's real body was able to unconsciously attack Deborah once his robotic eye recognized her and activated his prosthetics in response.
Usage#
Deborah primarily uses her Quirk to brainwash and placate her victims, allowing her to keep them under control and prevent them from escaping. Her Quirk allowed her to keep Anna brainwashed so the Gollini Family could continue to make use of her Overmodification. Deborah later used her Quirk on the captives inside the Gollini Family's flying fortress, hoping to use Overmodification to turn the "specimens" into living weapons for them to use, though only a slight few were compatible with Anna's Quirk. Deborah proceeded to use her Quirk on Class 1-A and Giulio to incapacitate them, trapping them all inside their minds as they lived out their deepest desires.

Trivia#
- This Quirk is similar to Brainwashing, as they both allow their users to put targets in a controllable, hypnotic state. However, both use different activation methods, with Day Dream being activated through sight and Brainwashing through conversation. The latter's victims can also seemingly carry out a wider range of commands by comparison.
- Additionally, while Brainwashing's effects will be undone if the victim receives some semblance of pain, Day Dream is undone if the user is injured.
- In both instances, Izuku was able to uniquely break out of the Quirks' influences thanks to the Vestiges of One For All within him.
- The way Deborah's eyes glow red while using Day Dream is similar to how Shota Aizawa's eyes do the same when he uses Erasure.
- This Quirk may be inspired by DC Comics' Black Mercy, a parasitic alien plant that latches itself onto a host and makes them dream of their perfect fantasy world while it feeds off of their life force. Within the DCU, the victim must reject the fantasy world themself in order to escape, and any attempt by outside forces to remove the creature will result in the death of said victim.
