Erasure Spot

ArticleSource revision

Erasure Spot is the Quirk used by Paulo Gollini.[1]

Description#

Erasure Spot allows the user to create a large dome-shaped wave of energy that deactivates the Quirks of anyone within its range. They are also able to create a smaller bubble within the field which keeps the Quirks of those within active.

When boosted by Overmodification, the range increases dramatically, to the point that it can cover an entire mountain-range area.[2]

Weaknesses#

Erasure Spot's outer dome nullifies Quirks indiscriminately, meaning that even the user's allies will have their Quirks negated should they be caught in it, as seen when Paulo's other henchmen had to rely on firearms.

While useful, this Quirk is easy to bypass should the user's allies be forced outside of the inner field that keeps Quirks active. A fast opponent can also make their way inside, allowing them to activate their Quirk and defeat the user.

Usage#

In battle, Paulo specializes in using his modified Erasure Spot over a wide range area to nullify the Quirks of his enemies, leaving them powerless and eventually drawing them out. The sudden Quirk erasure can take foes by surprise and leave them in disadvantageous positions within the Symbol of Paradise, such as when Izuku Midoriya ended up falling down a manhole tunnel, demonstrating the Quirk's troublesome nature.

He then relies on two of his henchmen (one with a forcefield Quirk and another with an artillery Quirk) to attack his opponents from within his inner field while keeping the Quirks of his enemies nullified. However, this strategy makes it easy to recognize his Quirk's effects and his overreliance on his minions leaves him helpless once they're defeated.

Trivia#

  • The Japanese naming of this Quirk is literally read as "An Ideology".
  • As Izuku makes note of, this Quirk is similar to Eraser Head's Erasure, though without requiring eye-contact to come into effect like his.
  • It is also similar to Neutralization, another Quirk that can temporarily erase the use of someone's Quirk.
  • Erasure Spot could be a nod to the Marvel Comics character Leech, who has the ability to project a field nullifying the powers of anyone within 50 feet of him.
