Float was the Quirk used by Nana Shimura and later inherited by Izuku Midoriya,[1] before forcibly transferring it via blood transference to Tomura Shigaraki.[2]
Description#
Float allows the user to levitate and suspend themselves in mid-air.
With the added enhancement of the stockpiled energy from One For All, Float becomes drastically more powerful, allowing the user to fly at high speeds.[3]
Usage#
During her time, Nana Shimura used it to float in the air alongside Gran Torino, who was considered to be the fastest Hero of his time. Whenever Nana uses Float, in conjunction with her second Quirk, One For All, she would fly into any danger, allowing her to keep up with her friend.
Izuku first unlocked and used the Quirk during the peak of the Paranormal Liberation War when Tomura Shigaraki attempts to kill every Hero currently fighting against him with his Decay, allowing Izuku to drag Tomura in the air, while pulling his allies to safety using Blackwhip.[1]
Izuku later uses this during his second fight with Muscular to stay suspended above him, clear from his attacks.[4] He continues to use this as his primary mode of transportation, traveling through the city to face the next threat.
Izuku is seen using this Quirk again in combination with Fa Jin and his Air Force technique to achieve higher speeds to get to the U.A. Flying Fortress.[5]
Izuku continues to maintain use of the Quirk to keep himself suspended in the air during his battle against Tomura to keep up with his own flight Quirk, as well as to prevent himself from touching the ground.[6]
During his final battle against Tomura, Float was the last Quirk to be forcefully transferred into him to destroy his leaden soul, with Nana executing the task herself while she and Izuku were within Tomura's consciousness, destroying the Quirk in the process.[2]
Trivia#
- Float is very similar to Air Walk, as both allow their users to levitate in the air.
- While powered with stockpiled energy from Fa Jin and Air Force, Float is very similar in function to Christopher Skyline's Flight.
- Nana Shimura's grandson, Tenko, possessed a similar flight-based Quirk that would have allowed him to create rings whose emitted force could propel him through the air. It was stolen from him as an infant by All For One, which then merged with several of his other Quirks to create a powerful repulsion Quirk which let him fly through the air. Tomura would eventually end up using this Quirk himself.[7]
