Shinji Nishiya,[3] also known by his hero name, the Arbor Hero: Kamui Woods, is the former No. 4 Pro Hero,[6] a former No. 7 Pro Hero, and member of The Lurkers.
Appearance#
Shinji is a young man with a rather muscular build, standing relatively shorter than other high-ranked Pro Heroes. Underneath his helmet, he has puffy red leaf-like hair, though his face has remained unseen since he has only been shown while wearing his mask. His first hero costume is a dark blue bodysuit that includes a wooden belt, wooden knee pads, and wooden shoes. A small bundle of roses hangs from the left side of his belt.
After he officially became the No. 7 Pro Hero, his costume was slightly modified, and he now has two wooden rings hanging on his shoulders, which have stumps and branches protruding from them.
Eight years after the Final War, Kamui's costume stayed mostly the same, with the main difference being with his helmet. It now possesses several small branches growing out the top portion, with a large bushel of bright, green leaves growing out the back and slumping on to his shoulders.
Personality#
Shinji is a very serious and focused person when it comes to being a hero in his hero duties; however, he easily feels down when someone takes his glory or credit. At the same time, he also appears to be rather emotional, as when he was invited by Edgeshot to be part of The Lurkers, he cried in happiness for two hours.[5]
Abilities#
Overall Abilities: Shinji has grown to be an incredibly strong hero during his career as a hero, earning him the spot at the No. 7 ranked hero on the JP Billboard Charts and became a popular hero. His skills have led some to believe that he will be a standout hero of the next generation.
Quirk#
Arbor: Shinji's Quirk allows him to enlarge and control his wooden body parts into strong tree branches. These branches are excellent for binding. Being made of wood, this Quirk is at a disadvantage against fire.
Ultimate Move#
- Lacquered Chain Prison: Shinji shoots out the wood from one of his arms and surrounds the enemy with it to immobilize them. This move is first used against an unnamed enemy.

Trivia#
- Kamui means "god" or "deity" (in the Ainu language) and Shinrin means "woods", giving Shinji's hero name the meaning "God of the Woods".
- Shinji's surname contains the kanji for "west" and "roof", and his chosen name means "forest, woods" and "child".
- According to Shinji's Volume 10 profile:
- Shinji's civilian clothes are all made of organic material with a wide-rimmed hat completely obscuring his face.
- He had a dark childhood that was later made into a popular documentary.
- He likes nature therapy.[7]
- Shinji's Japanese voice actor, Masamichi Kitada, also voices Juzo Honenuki, Tensei Ida, and young Gran Torino.
- According to Shinji's Ultra Analysis profile:
- Kamui Woods is a relatively new Pro Hero whose strength and by-the-book approach have earned him respect from many, even All Might himself.
- He doesn't let his new popularity go to his head and always remembers to respect his elders, with the public appreciating his modesty.
- His personality is described as "tight-lipped and straitlaced".
- Recovery Girl uses a Pez dispenser with his head on it.[8]
- In the Ultra Analysis fanbook, Shinji was thrilled to hear about this.
- Shinji's second Hero Costume has an inconsistency in the anime, due to the initial upgrade being cut from his Hero Billboard Chart appearance and updated during the Endeavor Agency Arc, so he still wears his old one during World Heroes' Mission despite those events taking place after the arc.
- Prior to the timeskip, Shinji was the highest-ranking hero in Japan who didn't suffer any kind of notable or life-changing injury during the wars against the League of Villains and the Paranormal Liberation Front, unlike his fellow higher-ranking heroes, such as:
- Crust being killed by Tomura Shigaraki's Decay.
- Endeavor losing his right arm and being left unable to walk.
- Hawks getting his wings and back burned up by Dabi, and eventually losing his Quirk to All For One.
- Best Jeanist losing a lung.
- Mirko losing a leg and both of her forearms.
- Edgeshot sacrificing a significant amount of his life force to revive Katsuki.
- Shinji's abilities and mask resemble those of Marvel's Spider-Man, with Shinji's abilities being used for similar purposes as Spider-Man's webs, such as swinging through buildings and restraining enemies.
