Invisibility is the Quirk used by Toru Hagakure and her parents.
Description#
Invisibility causes the user to unconsciously refract the light that hits them, granting them a completely invisible body.
Because of Invisibility, none of Toru's physical features can be observed through the naked eye, making it hard to detect her presence or read her emotions unless she announces them herself.
This Quirk involves a degree of light manipulation due to its nature, and with training Toru gained the ability to refract light from her prism-like, invisible body through conscious use of that manipulation. In ordinary circumstances, this refracted light is no more deadly than normal light, with its primary function being to blind opponents. But when used on a form of light that can already inflict harm, such as Navel Laser, it will retain its destructive power after being refracted, allowing the attack to be redirected or focused.
Toru's parents are shown to be invisible like her, though it is unknown whether they are capable of the same light manipulating abilities as their daughter.
Weaknesses#
Invisibility does not extend to clothing or objects, meaning that Toru needs to constantly strip off her clothes in order for her Quirk to be useful. However, going fully naked also exposes her skin to the elements and, therefore, her body may be affected by extreme temperatures.
Certain Quirks can also help detect or reveal Toru's presence, such as Mezo Shoji's Dupli-Arms enhancing his sensory capabilities and giving him a better chance of finding her.[1] Another example is Kinoko Komori's Mushroom Quirk that can cover her with fungi and reveal her silhouette.[2]
Invisibility is permanently active and cannot be switched off. However, refracting light from Toru's body can reveal her true appearance, as seen when she redirected Yuga Aoyama's Navel Laser.[3] Toru later realizes during the Final War that Navel Laser had gotten stronger thanks to an Awakening, and the empowered light caused her Quirk to glitch.[4] Her Quirk glitches again during the final battle against "All For One" when she takes a full hit laser blast of his Omni-Factor Unleash to refract it, and a second time in class after Yuga fired a series of laser bullets to try and cheer his class up after he announced his departure from U.A.[5][6]
Her glitching became frequent enough to where she eventually added a specialized, invisible suit to her Hero costume to prevent accidental exposure during work.[7]
Usage#
Invisibility's primary purpose is for stealth. Toru can easily bypass regular, visual detection, making it ideal for ambush attacks, spying missions or just avoiding enemy strikes. However, those advantages only come in handy if she strips herself of any sort of clothing or equipment, which leaves her vulnerable to other senses, like contact with cold surfaces.
Through training, Toru has learned how to use the light manipulation capabilities of her Quirk, being able to refract light inside of her and intensify it, making her capable of blinding people.[8] After her Hero Work-Studies with Yoroi Musha, Toru has strengthened and improved this ability, being able to manipulate Yuga Aoyama's Navel Laser.[9]

Warp Refraction: Toru uses her invisible body as a lens, warping light and blinding those who are nearby.[8]
Warp Refraction: Navel Laser: Toru manipulates the light produced by Yuga's Navel Laser Quirk, spreading the light in all directions, blinding and damaging anything in the vicinity.[10]
