More is the one hundred and seventy-first (Stylized as 170+1) and final episode of the My Hero Academia anime, and the twelfth and final episode of the eighth season.
Summary#
Ochaco suddenly finds herself in the middle of a bright and windy clearing, clad in her Hero Costume, wondering where she is and asserting that she needs to get back to work as soon as possible since she has papers to fill out, among other things. The woman then turns around and is shocked to find Himiko standing in front of her. The Villain softly greets her, and as she prepares to say something else, everything goes black.
Ochaco then wakes up in the middle of the night inside of her Hero office, as she passed out on her desk while filling out paperwork. After rubbing the sleep out of her eyes and sitting back up in her chair, the Hero says that the dream she just had with Himiko is the same one she's been having for a while.
The next day, Uravity is walking to an elementary school where her next Quirk counselling session takes place, accompanied by Froppy, Suneater, Nejire Chan, and Lemillion. Uravity thanks the The Big 3 for joining her on the session and assures them that the kids would be excited to see them. Lemillion isn't sure if the kids will be as thrilled as she claims, with Nejire Chan wondering if her friend's statement is some kind of joke that flew over her head. Suneater is honored that he gets to participate in Uravity's counselling work, with Lemillion adding that everyone at Ryukyu's Agency, like her, is doing some incredible work. Nejire Chan chimes in and says her boss wants the next generation to be prepared, with Suneater agreeing since the Final War taught them all that.
Uravity reminds the group that even though they have read the files on the students they're going to be interacting with, the most important thing to keep in mind is communication. She elaborates and says that someone who might not look troubled on the surface can be carrying a lot of baggage on the inside, so it might be inherently difficult for a child to open up to an adult they've never met before. The woman says patience is key when working in these counselling sessions, and that everyone should trust their judgement in regard to how to interact with the students. The Hero says this round of counselling can last up to a month, though it can shift depending on how their first day goes, and asks everyone to not get overwhelmed by the massive number of children they have to tend to.
Suneater notes the sheer volume of work they have to undertake, though Uravity assures things are manageable, since they have a dedicated support staff backing them, and the people leading their cause are very passionate about them. She adds that Hawks has also been in talks with the Ministry of Education to get funds sent across the country, though these discussions usually end up with Yokumiru Mera commenting that he sounds like a con artist pitching a scam by framing child welfare as a monetary investment.
Regardless of how some tend to go about it, Uravity is glad that, due to her and others' arduous efforts, Quirk education has become much better in recent years. Suneater then asks the woman if she ever has free time for herself these days, prompting her to pause. Before Uravity can answer her colleague, a swarm of children come pouring out to excitedly meet the various Heroes. Lemillion is the first to properly greet the kids, prompting them to happily ask the new No. 1 Hero to "do the thing".
The man obliges and immediately jumps into a nearby tree and uses Permeation to repeatedly phase his butt in and out of the leaves, with both him and the kids declaring that it's time to "harvest the peaches". Lemillion then tells the kids to try and hit his "peaches" with their Quirks, as the students begin to eagerly fire off their Quirks at the Hero to try and land a clean blow. As the game goes on, Uravity notices a nervous-looking boy, Oshima, not participating in Lemillion's challenge. Without saying a word, the Hero gets the boy's attention and offers him her hand while smiling. With the help of her Zero Gravity, she makes Oshima float and get close enough to fire a laser at one of Lemillion's "peaches", allowing him to secure the winning blow.
Pained, Lemillion slowly slides down the tree and claims no one has been able to pull one over on him since a burglar last year. Ochaco slowly lowers the boy safely to the ground before releasing her Quirk. One of the classmates congratulates the boy on the win, as Lemillion crouches to Oshima's height and puts his hand on the boy's shoulder, before the two present their "peaches" to the children and declare them as the "fruits of their labor". Oshima's class all cheer and congratulate him, as he's overcome with joy. Uravity likes how carefree the children are, but remembers that they're here to teach them a sense of duty, and sees Oshima flash her a peace sign, which she happily returns.
Suneater is stunned at the display, which makes Nejire Chan tease him by saying that Uravity sounds like him. Embarrassed, he Manifests a mole claw and says he's going to dig a hole to hide in. Uravity then answers Suneater's earlier question, telling Nejire Chan that she regularly teams up with Froppy and gets to spend tons of time with friends, so she's got plenty of free time.
That night on the train, Ochaco tells Tsuyu that she's been dreaming about Himiko again, which has been happening on and off for about a month. Ochaco was worried she was pushing herself too hard, so she went to the doctor, though the physician couldn't find anything physically wrong with her and asked if it was just a result of stress piling up. Tsuyu doesn't accept the answer and begs Ochaco to get a second opinion, though the other woman assures her that she's fine and rejects the suggestion, especially since the doctor she saw was one Tsuyu personally recommended.
Ochaco wonders if Himiko is trying to tell her something through these dreams and remembers their fight during the Final War, claiming Himiko's blood was what saved her during that battle, and when the Villain died, she figured her blood would have filtered itself out of her system. Looking down at her hand, Ochaco wonders if Himiko is still a part of her after all this time, much like how One For All's embers worked. Tsuyu says that she had better try to remember what her dream was about, with Ochaco agreeing.
Meanwhile, Katsuki is driving down the road with Eijiro and Izuku in his brand new car, complaining about how he has to be Izuku's chauffeur. Izuku says he appreciates the lift, and Eijiro tells Katsuki to lighten up since they're all going to the same place. Katsuki counters that Eijiro is only tagging along because he threatened to use his Hardening to punch holes in the hood of Katsuki's car if he didn't give him a ride, with the other man joking that his friend isn't the type to cave into threats so easily. As Izuku sits in the heavily cushioned backseat, Katsuki asks why Izuku needs a ride in the first place, humoring him if he's that busy. Izuku says it's true to an extent, as the free ride helped a lot since he needed extra time to polish off the Quirk improvement plans for his students.
That reminds Eijiro to ask Izuku if he thinks any of his students would work well with him. Izuku wonders if Eijiro's thinking of getting a Sidekick, to which his friend confirms, as while Fat Gum and Tamaki have helped him, he can't keep relying on them now that he's gone independent. He recalls Fat Gum saying that there are a lot of things he won't learn until he's looking after someone else, and he wants to take advantage of that pretty soon. Eijiro adds that people like Tenya and Momo are doing incredible work on their own since they went solo earlier than he did and thinks they're badass for doing so.
Izuku teases Katsuki by saying he heard the Bombshell Hero had a lot of Sidekicks apply, but all ran from their interviews crying, prompting Katsuki to tell him to shut his face. Eijiro claims that everyone who watched his fight with All For One applied because they thought he was the paragon of everything heroic, Izuku playfully riffing that they realized their mistake when Katsuki started screaming at them. Angered, Katsuki asks the two if they want to eat concrete. After calming down, he claims that he's waiting for an applicant who says that they want to surpass him, and then he'll hire them on the spot. Izuku smiles at that before looking down and noticing Katsuki's signed All Might card on the middle console.
Katsuki then grabs Izuku's attention, asking him if he's staying at U.A. Izuku says that he is, as he got permission to use his suit whenever he wants, so he'll be doing Hero work as a side job like Eraser Head and their former teachers did. He reveals that he's been traveling around to places like elementary schools, care facilities, and parks to share his experiences with other generations to hopefully inspire them. Izuku loves that now he gets to both push kids to excel and help people as an armor-wearing Hero; two different jobs that are of equal importance to him, so his feelings haven't changed. He claims that even if he still had One For All, he's positive he'd still want to become a teacher, and gushes at the fact that he gets to look after his students while simultaneously saving the day once in a while with his old classmates.
Izuku then thanks Katsuki and Eijiro, the latter looking to the former before laughing that he got denied. Izuku is confused, so Eijiro reveals that Katsuki wanted Izuku to join his agency, but the man just shot him down before he could even ask. Izuku apologizes to Katsuki that he can't at the moment, to which Katsuki responds that he heard the speech. Eijiro says that Izuku is dense about these kinds of things, and Katsuki adds that while what he is about to say might not make much sense coming from him, he advises Izuku to start thinking more highly of himself and putting his own needs first, as if he doesn't, he'll miss out on things. Izuku is confused about those words coming from Katsuki, so the blond clarifies that if everyone is special to Izuku, then no one is special to him. Izuku is still perplexed, but is ignored as Eijiro re-asks Izuku's earlier question as to why Katsuki got those "crazy seats".
The three eventually make it to a pub, which is completely packed with every former member of Class A, who came together to celebrate Shoto's recent announcement of becoming the No. 2 Hero. After a toast led by Denki, Shoto thanks his friends for organizing this event, and the other man says he'll take any excuse to cut loose and party. Shoto gets a little downtrodden that this celebration is an "excuse", though Denki quickly clarifies that he and everyone else genuinely wanted to get together and congratulate his friend.
Hanta jokingly says the No. 44 Hero shouldn't be "bullying" the No. 2 Hero, which only makes Denki more flustered as he asks him to nervously drop the ordeal. Tenya comes to Denki's defense, saying that while the billboard rankings still have numerical spots, the criteria and focus on what type of work the leaderboard catalogs have been greatly expanded and subdivided, so to him, a number ranking isn't as coveted as it once was. Momo then says a lot of the bigger factors taking into consideration nowadays, besides Villain and disaster response, are philanthropic work, education, and tackling of societal issues.
Minoru also "agrees" with numbers not mattering, though in truth, he's seething at the fact that he's the No. 108 Hero, being the lowest officially ranked Hero out of his entire class. Mina and Kyoka try to cheer the man up, saying that his placing is still quite respectable even with a three-digit number. Hitoshi, who is currently unranked, says that most of his friends are craving exposure, which he can't personally relate to. Rikido is amazed that everyone's schedules managed to perfectly coordinate for a meeting like this, with Mashirao suggesting that the percentage of Villain-based crime having a continuous annual drop helped a lot with that.
Fumikage says crime is still a constant even with their work, and brings a solemn congratulation to all the Heroes continuing the good fight, both the ones they've studied under and looked up to when they were teenagers, their current generation, which includes their former classmates and peers, and whoever will manage to carry the torch when their time is over with. Fumikage says that Heroes now fight with the hope that in the future, their services are longer necessary. He then grumbles to himself about a recent recommendation by an ad company he worked with to present himself as "more fabulous" to citizens, as Mashirao wonders if his drink is non-alcoholic.
Shoto then takes a seat next to Izuku and agrees with Fumikage's complaint to some extent, as the class begins enjoying the food, drinks, and good company. The new No. 2 Hero says people have been giving him similar feedback lately, though he can't personally understand why, since he doesn't feel like he's acting this way on purpose.
With his tumultuous life now public knowledge, people always tell Shoto that he overcame a difficult fate and that all his current work is about him fulfilling a personal duty. The man had to wade through so much uncertainty to get to his current point, so whenever he hears about his past now, he feels like a small player in a grand story he had no control over, with every outcome inside it related to him coming off his inevitabilities rather than a result of his own choices.
As such, Shoto has had a growing interest in doing things for himself outside of what most on the outside know him for. One of his biggest leaps in that front is him enrolling in a class that teaches people how to make bowls and chopsticks, as he heard soba tastes better if eaten with personally made kitchenware. He made the decision after praying at Toya's altar, during which he came to the realization of how much he loves eating, and he really wants to prove there's more to himself outside of his accomplishments as a Pro Hero.
Katsuki asks Shoto if he's going soft on them, and as the two chat for a little while, Izuku turns after hearing Mina excitedly squeal from another table. Toru just told the other woman that Shihai and Kinoko recently started dating, and as they gush about the blossoming couple, Hanta turns to Denki and Kyoka with similar romantic suspicion and interrogates the two about why the former rented out the building next to the latter for his Hero Office.
Kyoka chuckles and asks Hanta to stop reading so much into things, and Denki explains he rented out that specific building because he was so nervous about going independent all by his lonesome. As the rest of the Heroes keep conversing amongst themselves, Izuku thinks about Shoto's earlier comment about inevitabilities.
At the moment, the man's happier than ever and living a fulfilling life, but he wonders if there's something that's eluding him after all this time. Izuku then turns to Ochaco, who's spending time with Mina and Tsuyu, and his eyes light up and widen as he comes to some sort of realization.
Just then, an emergency alert goes out to all the patrons, stating there's a duo of carjackers running amok on Scrap Street in Minami Ward. All the Heroes immediately prepare to take off, as Hanta jokes that stuff like this is why they can't drink alcohol during these events.
All of the Class A alumni immediately suit up and take off into the night, and in no time flat, Deku, Dynamight, and Ingenium catch up to the carjackers and slow down the stolen van. From behind, Shoto then traps the vehicle and the offenders in a giant platform of ice, as the Villains accept defeat upon seeing the rest of the Heroes on the street below looking up at them confidently.
Shortly after, the Villains are arrested, as Katsuki tells Izuku that he got to the vehicle first; Izuku assures his friend that Tenya was the first to reach. Tenya then begins to take off his suit, as he reminds them that this isn't a competition, and that even in times like this, spontaneous crime is still a problem. Izuku is just glad no one was injured, and watches Ochaco, Tsuyu, and Mina get the van back on the ground.
With the crime swiftly resolved and the hour getting late, the group agrees to call it a night. Shoto says he paid the tab at the restaurant, so everyone is in the clear to head straight home, but Mina grills him for doing so since he was the guest of honor. That problem is also quickly taken care of, as the rest of the group exchanges some cash with Shoto. Katsuki tells Izuku that he can't drive him home, since he has an early meeting with Edgeshot tomorrow morning. Izuku says he's fine getting home by himself, but Denki, Mina, and Eijiro take up the offer in order to check out their former classmate's new car.
The Class A alumni then take off into the night, as Izuku and Katsuki say their goodbyes. The teacher offers his friend to come to U.A. again as a guest for one of Eraser Head's communication theory classes, with Katsuki angrily picking up that their old teacher wants to frame him as a bad example. As Izuku begins to walk home, Katsuki's words about treating everyone as special to the point where no one is rings in his mind, and he suddenly stops.
At the same time, Ochaco says her farewells to Tsuyu at the train station, as she begins to walk home through the city. The woman then thinks about how she didn't get a chance to talk to Izuku at the restaurant since they were seated at different areas, but hopes she can rectify it later on since they both see each other at work sometimes.
She then stops and thinks about the time Izuku told her that she was his Hero back in high school, remembering that after the Final War, the two of them decided to find and heavily focus on the things they wanted and needed to do. They both happily respected each other's choices and smiled about it, and Ochaco thinks it's selfish to think about wanting much more than that.
Ochaco then recalls the time she hid the All Might keychain Izuku gifted her on Christmas from the girls, and the time she openly admitted her crush on Izuku to Himiko during their final battle and settles for wishing they could've talked more at the very least. The woman then turns to see Izuku hailing at and running towards her, making her face glow, and her cheeks turn red.
As Izuku stops and catches his breath, Ochaco suddenly remembers her dream with Himiko and what she said after her greeting. After collecting himself, Izuku tells his friend that while all of his former classmates are special to him, and he thought that would be enough for him as the years go on, he realizes something: he wishes that he could talk to her more, and after the gathering, his feelings towards that want became more intense.
Recalling the full dream, Himiko reaffirms the fact that she had where she did everything she wanted until the end, and since she loves Ochaco so much, she wants her to indulge in whatever she pleases, too, which in this case means loving someone as well. Himiko's vestige then "pushes" Ochaco into Izuku, as the two adults break into a fluster.
Ochaco then realizes that the day she started dreaming about Himiko was the same as when Izuku returned to Hero work, and she started seeing more of him. Izuku then nervously asks if it's alright with her if they start talking more often, and as Ochaco tries to give an answer, she sees Himiko's vestige telling her to go on with it. The woman then tears up and tells Izuku that she feels the same way, as the two raise and softly clasp their hands together.
Himiko's vestige takes her leave and fades out into the surrounding crowd, and as the rest of the former members of Class A make the most of their commute home, Izuku and Ochaco are left to themselves as they begin the next phase of their relationship.
