Synopsis#
U.A. Sports Festival Arc#
Kinoko Komori participates in the U.A. Sports Festival for first-year students. She finishes the Obstacle Race at 34th place.[1] She teams up with Itsuka Kendo, Reiko Yanagi, and Setsuna Tokage for the Cavalry Battle, but they don't get the necessary points to pass the event.[2]
When they are given the opportunity for two members of their team to participate in the tournament, she doesn't object when Itsuka suggests for their team to allow Team Tetsutetsu to participate in the 1 vs. 1 battle in their place, because she considers that they deserve it more.[3]
After this, Kinoko and her classmates watch the competition for the rest of the festival until it ends.
Forest Training Camp Arc#
Kinoko is seen with Yui Kodai, Setsuna, Pony Tsunotori, and Reiko when Neito Monoma decides to taunt Class 1-A in an exaggerated manner.[4] On their school trip, on the second day of the training camp, she listens along with the rest of her class as their homeroom teacher explains that they will be training their Quirks.
When Class 1-B arrives at the training camp, their homeroom teacher explains that they will be extending their Quirks and that the more they use their Quirks, the stronger they will be by breaking their limits. When Class 1-B witnesses Class 1-A's training, Itsuka asks Shota how they can observe everyone, and he explains that is the reason the Wild, Wild Pussycats are around.[5]
Kinoko is placed in critical condition when Mustard and the Vanguard Action Squad attack.[6]
Shie Hassaikai Arc#
After the Provisional Hero License Exam, Class 1-B meets 1-A in the hallways, and Neito takes the opportunity to reveal that all 1-B students have passed the exam.[7]
Joint Training Arc#
Kinoko and the rest of Class 1-B show up for the Joint Training Battle, with Neito loudly claiming that the momentum is now moving to their side. Upon selecting teams, Kinoko is paired up with Itsuka Kendo, Shihai Kuroiro, and Manga Fukidashi to face Class 1-A team consisting of Momo Yaoyorozu, Fumikage Tokoyami, Toru Hagakure, and Yuga Aoyama in Round 2.[8][9]
Before the round begins, Itsuka devises a strategy to defeat Class 1-A. Itsuka's first plan is to use Shihai to attack their rivals with Dark Shadow. If this fails, Itsuka predicts the others will use light. This will be the signal for Plan B. The light gives away Class 1-A's location, giving Manga and Kinoko the opening to barrage Class 1-A with their long-ranged Quirks.
After Shihai failed to capture Yuga, Kinoko started to use her Mushroom Quirk to spawn mushrooms everywhere. Using her spray bottles and Manga's quirk, the mushrooms begin to grow more rapidly. This not only gives Shihai more chances to hide but it also causes serious problems for Momo and her teammates by growing mushrooms all over their bodies. Taking advantage of the situation, Itsuka's team manages to isolate Momo from the rest of her team,[10][11] and Shihai captures Yuga and eliminates him from the match.
While Momo faces Itsuka alone,[12] she manages to create and send to Fumikage and Toru ethanol to get rid of the mushrooms. She also sends infrared goggles for Fumikage. Thanks to this device, Fumikage locates the position of Shihai and Kinoko and strikes them both with Black Abyss: Sabbath before they have time to react.
It seems that Fumikage has defeated the two students, but when he prepares to take them to jail, he starts coughing. Kinoko reveals that she can grow mushrooms inside a person's windpipe, although it's a skill she admits doesn't like to use. Because of this, Fumikage is captured and caged along with Yuga, and they are soon joined by Momo and Toru after they are captured by Itsuka, giving class 1-B the victory of that round.[13]
With the match over, Kinoko apologizes to Fumikage and offers him a throat lozenge to help the pain caused by her mushrooms growing in his throat, but he refuses her pity.[14] After this, Kinoko stays to watch the remaining rounds along with the rest of the students. The Joint Training Battle ends with victory for Class 1-A, and Kinoko cannot hide her displeasure that her class ended up being defeated.[15]
Despite the fierce competition and the result, the exercise ends on good terms between both classes, and later Class 1-B visits Class 1-A's dormitories for socializing and dinner. Kinoko engages in a conversation with Fumikage, asking him for private pictures of Hawks.[16]
Endeavor Agency Arc#
The Hero Public Safety Commission's demand of all the students heroes participate in practical field training. With the start of the second Hero Works-Studies, Kinoko teams up with Shihai.[17]
Paranormal Liberation War Arc#
The months pass until it's late March. The Hero Public Safety Commission had uncovered the plans of Tomura Shigaraki and his organization, the Paranormal Liberation Front, and organize a large force of heroes to take the villains down.[18]
Kinoko participates in raiding the Gunga Mountain Villa from the front lines, alongside several Pro Heroes, her classmate Juzo Honenuki, and Fumikage and Denki from Class 1-A. Kinoko is nervous and worried at the thought of attacking, asking if they really should be there. Kinoko is worried, Midnight explains that the students just be helping a little during the initial assault, after which they can retreat.[19]
Finally, the heroes start the assault on the mansion. Members of the Paranormal Liberation Front are caught off guard due to this surprise attack, but many of them come out to face the heroes.[20] It is in these moments when the students activate their Quirks to help the heroes. Kinoko uses her Mushroom Quirk to grow mushrooms both all over the bodies and in the throats of the foes, defeating a lot of them and giving the advantage to the heroes.[21]
When their assistance is no longer needed. Fat Gum uses his Ultimate Move Fataxi to carry Juzo, Kinoko, Denki, and Fumikage in his body, taking them away from the battlefield.[22] However, when Fumikage sees his mentor Hawks in danger, he jumps out of Fat Gum's body and flies back. Fat Gum ejects Juzo, Kinoko, and Denki from his body and tells them to run the rest of the way before running off to stop Tsukuyomi.[23]
Later, when Gigantomachia woke up, she was with the other students in the rear lines. Shortly after arriving with their classmates, they are informed that Gigantomachia isheading towards their position. Momo Yaoyorozu starts making up the plan to take the giant down.[24] The students each receive a vial of sedative from Momo and attempt to trap Machia and subdue him by throwing a vial into his mouth.
The goal was very difficult to achieve, not only because of Machia's monstrous strength, but also because most of the League of Villains were on Machia's back, among them Dabi. He uses his Blueflame Quirk to create a huge fire with which he kept the students at bay, also prevented Kinoko from using her Quirk, since the flames burned the spores.[25] In the end, Eijiro ends up succeeding in making the giant swallow his vial.
Soon after, several Heroes led by Majestic arrive to take over from the students,[26] but Gigantomachia transforms and bulldozes his way through the heroes, with Majestic using his rings to get the students to safety, leaving the students horrified at the giant's rampage.[27]
Dark Hero Arc#
When Izuku returns to U.A. after going rogue, Kinoko overheard and listened to Ochaco Uraraka's speech toward the civilians alongside her classmates.[28]
Final War Arc#
With the heroes' numbers dwindling rapidly, the remaining heroes prepares themselves for the Final War against the villains led by All For One. Shota Aizawa devises a plan that will lure All For One out into the open using Yuga Aoyama as bait. The plan successfully lures out All For One who summoned an army of villains at his disposal to overwhelm Izuku Midoriya and seize his prize, One For All. However, the Heroes are teleported onto the battlefield and begin to engage the villains in a ferocious battle.
Kinoko is sent to the Gunga Mountain Ruins alongside several other Heroes in order to face against an army of villains, while Endeavor and Hawks face All For One in the sky.[29] Although the heroes have a very good start, the battle is starting to fall apart when All For One regenerates himself after being burned to a crisp using the reversed-engineered Quirk-Destroying Drug, rewinding his body back to his prime. What's even worse is that Kurogiri was freed thanks to Spinner, allowing him to change the course of the war by teleporting both Dabi from Kamino, and Himiko from Okuto Island to the Gunga Mountains. It's also revealed Himiko had transformed into Twice, and as soon as she exited out of the Warp Gate, she unleashed Sad Man's Parade, which swarms all over the battlefield with Twice Doubles, with Kinoko looking on, mortified of how the battle has turned for the worse.[30]
As the Doubles and Dabi's flames prove too much trouble for the Heroes, they all attempt to flee, with Kinoko being carried away by Kamui Woods, lamenting that her mushrooms are ineffective due to the fire.[31] As they are retreating, the Shiketsu High School Hero Course students soon arrive to provide backup. Inasa Yoarashi uses his Whirlwind to suck up all the Twice Doubles and Himiko into the air, giving the Heroes the opportunity to counter-attack against All For One. The villain retaliates by unleashing a massive laser explosion at the battlefield below, obliterating Kinoko and several other heroes out of the way. The Heroes, however, stand their ground, to keep their defense strong and continue attacking, especially now that he's stopped running away.[32]
Kinoko and Kamui Woods regain their bearings, just as Fumikage uses the full power of Dark Shadow to hold All For One down. The Heroes refocus their efforts in taking out the remaining Twice Doubles while they keep All For One down, but the Villain manages to escape the grasp unleashing another massive explosion, and attempts to flee, only to be stopped by a brainwashed Gigantomachia.[33] However, All For One emerges victorious after defeating the rest of the Heroes who pursue him before blasting away from Gunga.[34]
The Heroes who didn't pursue All For One were in conflict with Himiko and her insanely swarming ocean of Twice Doubles from her Sad Man's Legion, which amplify the Twice Doubles to the maximum, consuming everything in its path. Kinoko was swallowed by the ocean until Ochaco manages to defeat Himiko by lifting up the ocean with her newly awakened Quirk until the time was up, allowing the Twice Doubles to vanish into thin air.[35] On the other side of the country, All For One was defeated by Katsuki Bakugo[36], and the Heroes manage to succeed in defeating Tomura Shigaraki just before the villain succumbs to his injuries and dies as his body disintegrates into ashes.[37]
One week after the end of the Final War, the restoration efforts that were stalled after the Jaku Hospital Raid have picked back up at a breakneck pace, as Heroes from around the world arrived to provide support and resources in rescue and rebuilding Japan. A few weeks later, Kinoko recovers from her injuries after the end of the war and returns to the partially rebuilt U.A.[38]
Weeks later, it is now June, and the third-year students at U.A. High are finally having their graduation after the end of the Final War. Kinoko attends the U.A. High Graduation along with the rest of her classmates. She watches the Third years receive their diplomas. Present Mic, who is MC-ing the event, apologizes for the delayed graduation, and shouts for excitement and the third years enthusiastically join in, while the former second years watching are start to get the jist of it, and the former first years watch speechless.
Mawata Fuwa comes to the stage to give the students a farewell speech. After Mawata Fuwa gives the farewell address as the students' representative, Present Mic calls on the graduates' representative, Mirio. He starts off his speech with a sincere statement thanking everyone for being in attendance, befuddling them all for not starting off with a gag, but reminds everyone they lost so much and gained nothing, and that a Heroes fight is to bring a negative situation back to square one. He concludes that a world without smiles and humor has no bright future, that they seek a positive world where people can live their lives in good cheer, and that is the finish line they're racing toward. He thinks for Nighteye to check him out, as he snaps, using his Quirk to blast of into the air, shouting to his underclassmen just as Bibimi Kenranzaki unleashes her giant robot on the cheering crowd.[39]
Epilogue Arc#
Eight years after the Final War, Kinoko has become a Pro Hero and entered a relationship with Shihai. Toru Hagakure eventually informs Class 1-A of the latter, surprising Mina Ashido.[40]
