Power Stock[1] was a Meta Ability given to Yoichi Shigaraki by All For One, who stole it from an unknown user.
This Meta Ability would fuse with Yoichi's own power, Quirk Bestowal, to become One For All.[2]
Description#
Power Stock has the ability to stockpile power which the user can harness for incredible bursts of power and speed. While the exact way the power is stockpiled is unknown, it is presumably done through training and accumulating strength. According to All For One, it is safe enough for someone with a fragile or weak body to handle it.[2]
All For One gave his seemingly Quirkless brother this ability in his effort to convince him to join his side in his reign of terror, granting him power he never had. However, unbeknownst to both brothers, Yoichi already had a Quirk whose only capability was to be passed on to another.[2] Due to his upbringing, his Quirk Factor was incomplete, and the power provided by Power Stock was enough to fill up what Yoichi's Quirk Bestowal lacked, resulting in them merging together to create One For All.[3]
As a result, Power Stock was able to exceed far beyond its initial capabilities, as every time the Quirk would be transferred to another individual, the stronger it would continue to grow, as said power is cultivated.[4] It reached the point that by the time of the eighth user, All Might, the stockpiled power had grown so tremendous he became the undisputed strongest person in the world; he would use this strength to defeat All For One's forces[5] and later All For One himself, though not without receiving serious injuries in the process.[6][2]
However, by the time of the ninth user, Izuku Midoriya, the power had reached a tipping point, which forced Izuku to train to regulate himself in order to handle the immense power, or else risk injuring himself with the ability's destructive potential.[7] He initially started off only being capable of using 5% of the power,[8] as anything more would seriously damage whichever limb it was released from,[9] but managed to reach a maximum of 45% capacity over time,[10] using the other Quirks that also resided within One For All to reach a safe equivalent of 100%.[11] Eventually, his body would grow durable enough to use 100% of One For All with less injury than before.[12] By using One For All in unison with Gearshift and Fa Jin to create the Ultimate Move named Overdrive, Izuku can push his power even further to 120%.[13]
After Izuku forcibly transferred One For All to Tomura Shigaraki during their final battle, Izuku's tipping point caused the Quirk to be destroyed almost immediately.[14] Additionally, the accumulated power from its previous users proved too much for Tomura's body to endure, and it began to deteriorate, rendering it unable to heal using Super Regeneration and ultimately crumbling after only a single decisive blow.[15]
Trivia#
- Power Stock, Quirk Bestowal, One For All, All For One, Life Force, Fa Jin, Gearshift, Spearlike Bones, and Luminescence are the oldest known Quirks in the series.
- Power Stock is similar in both its name and capabilities to the Quirk known as Power, which also grants the user a great level of strength, though without needing to be stockpiled first.
