Luminescence was the unnamed Meta Ability used by the Luminescent Baby, until it was stolen from them by All For One.
Description#
Luminescence allowed the user to emit a bright light from their body, giving the user a form of bioluminescence.
This Quirk was activated back when the baby was a newborn and likely became stronger as they grew up. It is unknown whether the Quirk was constantly active or whether it could be switched on and off at will.
All For One stole this Quirk before killing them, showing the ability off to his brother while boasting about it. During the Final War, by the time the rewinding All For One reverted into a young boy, he utilized the ability once more during his final battle against All Might.[1] Additionally, he was shown to be able to turn the Quirk on and off at will.
While there's no specified distinction in the manga, the anime depicts the baby emitting a pure white light from their body, while All For One's whole body is shown glowing a duller, orange-yellow, which was the same color as the moon on the day he stole the Quirk.
Trivia#
- This Meta Ability is the first registered Quirk in the series' recorded history and led to the recognition of superpowers.
- Despite this, it wasn't actually the first to be manifested, as the Shigarakis' mother possessed Spearlike Bones over two years prior, with many others all around the world, including reportedly fifty in India, existed before Luminescence's registration.[2]
