History#

One day, while he was still a rookie hero, Fat Gum ran into a trio of students while on patrol. Sameko, Kameko, and a young Rumi Usagiyama who were on a school trip around Osaka, and they wanted to visit the Tsutenkaku Tower, but they had gotten lost. Fat Gum asked them where they were from, and was pleased to learn that they were from a hero school in Hiroshima, and kindly gave them the correct directions before continuing to patrol the streets, wishing for them to enjoy Osaka.[1]

Hours later, something strange happened inside a parking lot, and from the building dozens of crazy people emerged with their Quirks uncontrolled, rampaging the streets and terrorizing the citizens. Fat Gum, who was nearby, was caught in the chaos, and assisted in the citizen evacuations.[2] He also tried to get in the way of the crazed villains to protect the fleeing people, but the villains were to many and overran him.

Fortunately, All Might had been warned of the crisis and quickly arrived in the area, defeating all the villains in a flash.[3] After this feat and attending many aspects of the clean up, the number 1 hero returned to his hero office. Fat Gum witnessed all of this and though about how big a deal All Might is. Inspired by his feat, Fat Gum decided to eat much more to gain weight, in order to increase the effectiveness of his own Quirk, ordering more boxes of takoyaki from a near food stand.[4]

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes#

Osaka Incident Arc#

Fat Gum is contacted by Detective Naomasa Tsukauchi to assist in a police operation. Investigations had discovered that a criminal organization known as the Villain Factory is going to introduce a large shipment of Trigger into the country, taking advantage of a Mascot Idol festival at the SS Mall in Super Minami, Osaka; and then distributing it camouflaged in food boxes.[5]

The infiltrated agent, Monika Kaniyashiki, manages to find out the drug and the main suspect, a villain known as Number 6. Fat Gum and the police enter the loading dock and order everyone to the freezer, but the villain quickly enters a code on a device that makes the cargo mechs to start rampage the place.[6]

After rescuing the trapped operators with the help of Monika, Fat Gum uses his enormous strength to pulls out the clamps and leaves the mechs deteriorated. However, Number 6 was prepared for that setback. The damaged mechs approach the batch containing Trigger and explode, destroying all evidence. The villain takes advantage of the distraction to run away.[7]

While the Police Force goes after Number 6, Fat Gum decides to take Monika with him to deal with the last remaining Mecha, which is still causing troubles. When they arrive at the place, Monika manages to stop the machine and rescue the person who was trapped in it. However, as happened with the other mechas, the machine starts its sequence of self-destruction. Fat Gum jumps to block the explosion, absorbing all the kinetic energy with his Fat Absorption Quirk. Once everyone is safe, he releases all the energy, getting nobody to be hurt at the cost of his protective fat.

Although there have been no injuries, all the evidence was destroyed, and the villain managed to escape.[8]

Sky Egg Arc#

Several weeks later, after police investigations discovered that Villains Factory's possible base of operations is at Onomura Pharma Corp.., Naomasa contacts Fat Gum to work with Eraser Head and Monika, first to investigate people connected to the company,[9] and later to participate in the police raid on the pharmaceutical company.

The police raid takes place, arresting the suspects and confiscating all possible evidence. They hardly have any problems at first, thanks to Eraser Head and Fat Gum, who defeat the main threats, but when they arrive at the secret laboratory, they meet Number 6, surrounded by creatures known as Bombers. Before they can stop him, Number 6 blows up the labs, fleeing with five Bombers to the Tokyo Sky Egg, with the intention of killing Captain Celebrity.[10]

Fortunately, Fat Gum and the rest of the police operation survive the explosion, and quickly heads to the Tokyo Sky Egg to help.[11] The attack of Number 6 is avoided thanks to the intervention of All Might, and there is no fatalities.[12] Naomasa introduces Fat Gum, Monika and Eraser Head to Toshinori Yagi, which is the true identity of All Might although that is something they do not know.[13]

Synopsis#

Shie Hassaikai Arc#

At some point Fat Gum hired Tamaki Amajiki to work at his Hero Office. One day, the BMI Hero is surprised that Tamaki has brought Eijiro Kirishima to participate in the Work Studies with him at the Fat Gum Agency. Fat Gum remember that Kirishima was one of the best participants in the U.A. Sports Festival, and accepted him.[14]

Walking through Eshuha Market, Fat Gum eats an entire board of takoyaki while on patrol with Tamaki and Eijiro. Suddenly, a group of criminals appears and Fat Gum stops them from running. When one of them escapes, Tamaki stops him from fleeing. Fat Gum then praises Tamaki until he notices the presence of a shooter and tells everyone to get down. Fat Gum then charges towards him.[15] Fat Gum tells his interns not to rush and instructs Tamaki to leave the area with him. When Tamaki reveals his Quirk will not activate, Fat Gum stops and questions the shooter if they have a Quirk eraser.[16]

Intercepting a villain following his fight with Eijiro, Fat Gum teaches him to capture without any victims, discussing the villain's drug afterward. Fat Gum then states that it was an inferior version of the drug he had encountered before. After examining the pieces of a broken bullet, he is surprised to learn of the effects of the drug which was making Quirks unusable. A few days later, Fat Gum attends the meeting regarding Shie Hassaikai in Sir Nighteye's offices.

Inside Sir's offices, Eijiro approaches Fat Gum asking about Shie Hassaikai. Fat Gum mentions he has quite a connection with them. During the meeting, Rock Lock remarks that they cannot talk with students around. Fat Gum states that Eijiro and Tamaki are important witnesses and proceeds to introduce them himself.

When Sir mentions unlicensed goods have become part of Shie Hassaikai, he requested help from heroes familiar with that line of work. Fat Gum mentions that in battle, Tamaki was shot by a drug that erases Quirks and due to Eijiro deflecting a bullet, they were able to examine the contents and found out that it contained human blood and human cells. When asked how it connected to Shie Hassaikai, Fat Gum reveals that there has been some contact between them and an organization selling it.[17]

When Sir reveals he would like everyone to assist in searching multiple locations, Fat Gum accuses Sir of thoroughly tiptoeing about while Eri is probably crying. Sir says that they will not become like All Might and that they should bring their chances of saving her as close to 100% as possible. Shortly afterward, Sir thanks everyone for their cooperation and the meeting ends.[18]

For several days, Fatgum, along with several other heroes, investigate all properties connected to the Shie Hassaikai, trying to find the place where they hold Eri, until he receives a call from Nighteye telling him that he has already found Eri and needs everyone to meet at his agency.

Once there, Sir reveals that Eri is at the base and that they received new information from a Shie Hassaikai member who was purchasing a toy a few days ago. Fat Gum thinks that the person buying the doll was just some enthusiast, but Nighteye replies to him that his behavior was not that of a Fan, and he touches the man's shoulder and uses his Foresight Quirk ability; Nighteye sees the man's future involving Eri.[19]

The next morning at 8:00 AM, in front of the Police Station, Heroes partaking in the rescue operation has been given detailed information about the Shie Hassaikai's headquarters and its members. At this point in time, Fat Gum gives Tamaki a can of swordfish. Finally, at 8:30 AM, the Heroes and Police Force are outside the Shie Hassaikai's Headquarters. When the police finish reading the warrant, Fat Gum is surprised when Rikiya Katsukame crashes through the door and knocks the police officers into the air. Ryukyu's group takes on Rikiya while the others head forward. Fat Gum tells everyone to get inside.[20]

Once inside, Fat Gum apologizes for tracking in dirt and tells those behind him to forget about watching out for suspicious behavior. Upon reaching underground, the group believes it to be a dead end. Mirio Togata discovers a wall blocking the way, which Fat Gum calls a 'cheap trick'.

After Izuku and Kirishima knock down the wall, the floor starts to warp due to Mimic's Mimicry Quirk. Fat Gum asks Shota if he can erase Joi's Quirk, but the floor suddenly opens up, dropping the Heroes and interns into a room with three of the Eight Bullets. Fat Gum prepares to fight until Tamaki stops him.[21] When Toya Setsuno and Yu Hojo draw their weapons, Fat Gum tells them that their blade and bullets will sink right into his body. Tamaki restrains and disarms the three yakuza and tells the others that he can handle them. Fat Gum instructs everyone to get moving because Tamaki surpasses them all in terms of ability.[22]

Making their way through a corridor, Fat Gum overhears Izuku and Eijiro discussing Tamaki. He tells the two that the mark of a true man is to have the ability to completely trust someone who has their back. Suddenly, Shota gets attacked but Fat Gum shoves him out of the way and is forced into another room. Getting up, he is surprised to see that Eijiro is in the room with him. Eijiro tells Fat Gum that he was also trying to protect Shota but once he did, he was swallowed by the enemy's Quirk. As they get up, Fat Gum states that they should brace themselves.

All of a sudden, Kendo Rappa, a member of the Eight Bullets, appears. He starts launching rapid punches at a great speed and strikes them both. Fat Gum counters with a punch of his own, but is surprised that his punch strikes a barrier instead. Fat Gum encourages Eijiro to be unbreakable because if his spirit breaks, then they are done for. He says that eliminating villains is about making them lose the will to fight and asks Eijiro what they will do if their spirits are broken before theirs.[23]

Once again, they were attacked by rapid punches but Fat Gum withstands the attacks and taunts Rappa into a fight to determine who is stronger, Rappa's punches or his own body. Fat Gum absorbs the punches and takes in a lot of energy, which burns away his fat and making his defense weaker. Eijiro appears in front of Rappa and is defeated shortly. With his fat body disintegrated, Fat Gum thanks Eijiro for his work.[24]

Dashing forward, he picks up Eijiro and then tells the yakuza that they are going to lose because they underestimated Eijiro. With his spare hand, he unleashes a powerful blast knocking out Rappa and Tengai.[25]

Fat Gum asks Eijiro if he was conscious, and Eijiro looks at him confusingly as Fat Gum claims he must protect him. Fat Gum thinks back to their first meeting. Suddenly, Rappa stands up claiming it to be a battle to the death. Fat Gum questions about it being a trap, but Rappa denies it. Rappa explains he wants a fight where they kill each other. Praising them, he vows his interest in them both. Walking away, he says that at their next match he will not be as merciful. Fat Gum explains that he is going to be arrested and locked up; there will be no next time. Rappa refuses to listen and replies that if no one is dead, then it is a draw.

Fat Gum moves Eijiro to the first aid room, where he bandages him, managing to stop his bleeding. Seeing that they are opening up to each other even though they are on opposing sides, Fat Gum asks about the reason Kendo is following Overhaul. Kendo explains that he is only around to defeat Overhaul someday, because he has been the only one who has defeated him not once but several times, and always without difficulty.

After hearing his explanation about Kai Chisaki, Fat Gum begins to become concerned and proceeds to ask Rappa about Chisaki's plans. Kendo tells him that Overhaul wants to reinstate the Yakuza, although Kendo doesn't know exactly how.[26]

Neither Fat Gum nor Eijiro can continue participating in the rescue operation due to their injuries, which ends in success thanks to Izuku, who defeats Overhaul and rescues Eri. Fat Gum waits in the room taking care of Eijiro until Centipeder and a group of police arrive where they are, arresting Rappa and Tengai in the process and accompanying him and Eijiro to the ambulances. Once outside he is glad to see that Tamaki is also alive, and cannot contain the emotion when Eijiro regains consciousness.[27]

Fat Gum is sent to the hospital to recover from his injuries.[28]

Remedial Course Arc#

At the beginning of October, Fat Gum attends Nighteye's funeral along with the rest of the people who participated in the Hero Work-Studies. Due to what happened, they are informed that the Hero Work Studies program is postponed for the moment, so Fat Gum says goodbye to Eijiro and Tamaki.[29]

Pro Hero Arc#

Fat Gum, along with Rock Lock, attends as a spectator the Hero Billboard Chart JP. He feels sad after listening to Ryukyu's speech. He also talks to Rock Lock about Hawks' arrogance during the event.[30]

Endeavor Agency Arc#

During the second round of Work-Studies, Fat Gum employees Tamaki and Eijiro once again with the addition of Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu.[31]

My Hero Academia: World Heroes' Mission#

The World Heroes Association invites the Fat Gum Agency to be part of a global operation against Humarise, an anti-Quirk cult that had caused the death of thousands of people by detonating a Trigger Bomb. The entire agency joins the Japan Task Force, which also includes Gang Orca Agency, Cementoss, Present Mic, and many other heroes.

The objective of the mission is to assault all the branches that Humarise has in the world, arrest its members, and seize all the Trigger Bombs that they can find. The Japan Task Force successfully storm the Tokyo branch, but while dozens of cultists are arrested, no Trigger Bomb is found. The same goes with the remaining branches raids, so the WHA Director orders all the teams to stay in their assigned countries.

While they are standby at a hotel, Kyoka informs all the task force members that Izuku has been found guilty of the murder of twelve civilians in Otheon. A few days later, the situation gets worse when Flect Turn, leader of Humarise, broadcasts that they have placed Trigger Bombs in the twenty-five cities and that they will explode in two hours. As expected, panic breaks out in the target cities, one of them being Tokyo, triggering numerous accidents among the terrified population.

The Japan Task Force scrambled to quell the hysteria and locate the bombs. Fat Gum quickly coordinates his trainees to help: he asks Tamaki to extricate the injured while Eijiro and Tetsutetsu secure an evacuation route. As they are helping and searching for the Trigger Bombs, they are reported that Izuku, Katsuki, and Shoto plan to storm Humarise's main headquarters to defuse the bombs.

Gang Orca informs to the entire Task Force that he has found the Trigger Bomb in a moving train, so Fat Gum and Tamaki quickly boarded the carriage to seize the bomb, but the weapon is protected by various agents of Humarise, so Fat Gum and Tamaki have no choice but to confront them. They manage to defeat them, allowing Cementoss to wrap the entire carriage with cement, but when Fat Gum inquires about the situation, he is informed that more Trigger Bombs have been found.

The heroes continue to fight until the countdown finally reaches zero, but fortunately none of the bombs explode, indicating that Izuku's group had managed to stop the detonation. After this, the heroes defeat the last remnants of Humarise, and all the Trigger Bombs is taken into custody by the police. Once the crisis is over, Fat Gum returns to his daily duties.[32]

Paranormal Liberation War Arc#

By the end of March, the Hero Public Safety Commission organizes the Heroes and the Police Force to take down the Paranormal Liberation Front. Fat Gum is part of a large group of pro Heroes whose mission is to storm Gunga Mountain Villa, the main headquarters of the Paranormal Liberation Front. At his side is his disciple Suneater. When Edgeshot comments that all the PLF bases all over the country are surrounded by heroes, Fat Gum can't help but be impressed that the villains' whole activities has been figured out.[33]

After the hero team led by Endeavor start to storm the Jaku General Hospital, the Villa Raid Team begins their assault on the Gunga Mountain Villa.[34] The Paranormal Liberation Front is caught off guard by the surprise attack, which allows the heroes to take the initiative and defeat many of their soldiers. The heroes also sealed all the external secret entrances to a giant sanctuary beneath the mansion, leaving the interior ones only.[35][36]

Fat Gum and Suneater ask Tsukuyomi to joins them in sealing one of these entrances, defeating the villains who try to stop them. When they reach the entrance, Tsukuyomi uses his Dark Shadow to full power, repelling the villains who wanted to go out to fight, including Re-Destro, which gets blasted through the rear wall of the tunnel towards the sanctuary.

Fat Gum congratulates Tsukuyomi for his work, as he has also managed to block the entrance. Dark Shadow informs Tsukuyomi that there is a monster down there. Fat Gum realizes that Dark Shadow is referring to Gigantomachia, and assures him that, according to the information provided by Hawks, Gigantomachia won't move unless directly ordered by his master Tomura Shigaraki.

Using his super move Fataxi, Fat Gum introduces Tsukuyomi into his belly to keep him protected and take him to a safe place. Along the way, Fatgum also picks up Chargebolt, Mudman, and Shemage to transport away from the battlefield.[37]

As they move away, Tsukuyomi notices a blast of fire coming out of the mansion, fleetingly seeing Hawks in troubles.Despite Fat Gum's protest and efforts to stop him, Tsukuyomi managed to jump out of his body and fly back to help Hawks. Inwardly, he comments on how Tsukuyomi was strong enough to break free of his fat, which was something that had never happened before to him. Fat Gum ejects Chargebolt, Shemage, and Mudman from his body and tells them to run the rest of the way before running off to stop Tsukuyomi.[38]

As Fat Gum reaches the battlefield, he sees a gigantic Mt. Lady being blown away by Geten's ice wall, having to jump aside to avoid being crushed.[38] A few minutes later, Fat Gum sees Tsukuyomi flying away, with an injured and unconscious Hawks in his arms. Fat Gum yells at Tsukuyomi to inform him that there should be medics in the rear guard.

Fat Gum continues to fight the Paranormal Liberation Front until Gigantomachia receives an order from Tomura to reunite with him, bringing with him the Lieutenants of the army.[39]The hulking beast emerges from the bunker in which he was trapped, disposing of all the heroes who try to stop him. Likewise, the villains who were with him also come out of the hole. Among them is Re-Destro, who starts to fight Edgeshot and a group of heroes.[40]

Fat Gum and his trainee Suneater briefly assist in the fight before joining Majestic and a handful of heroes who prioritize stopping Gigantomachia. Thanks to the U.A. students being able to hold the giant long enough, they manage to catch up with him, ready to face the behemoth and his allies. Unfortunately, Gigantomachia proclaims that he had enough interruptions and begins to transform.[41] After adopting a more bulkier and armored form, Gigantomachia defeats all the heroes with ease, devastating the area, before continuing on his way towards Tomura.[42]

U.A. Traitor Arc#

In the aftermath of the Paranormal Liberation War, All For One has escaped from Tartarus, and proceeded to break into several more maximum security prisons, liberating the inmates. Due to the chaos inflicted by Gigantomachia and the mass breakout of prisoners, the whole country entered a state of total chaos and anarchy. In addition, many heroes resigned and called it quits because of the massive criticism of their work, and the destruction spreading unchecked. Fat Gum is one of the few heroes remaining and does his best to stop the villains and apprehend them as much as he can.[43]

In the Kansai Region, Nejire, Tamaki, Fat Gum, and Ryukyu have just defeated a villain and rescued some civilians, planning to take them to Shiketsu High School. Ryukyu states that if the number of people keep dwindling, there will be a drop in available information for them, with Fat Gum saying that now there will be no more sneak attacks and raids at each other, with everyone gearing up for the Final War.[44]

Final War Arc#

With Yuga Aoyama revealed to be a mole for All For One, the plan is to utilize Yuga and Izuku to lure All For One and his forces out of hiding into an abandoned city outside, using Hitoshi Shinso's Brainwashing Quirk to deceive All For One. When All For One finally emerges in front of Izuku, thinking that he has already succeeded, All For One uses his Warping Quirk to bring out an army of villains to the area, only to be caught off guard when Fat Gum and the Heroes begin to appear through several Warp Gates, created by Neito Monoma, who had copied Kurogiri's Warp Gate.[45]

Fat Gum is teleported into the area where they've succeeded in luring All For One in the open, and as the fighting begins, All Might springs up the "Troy" system trap, trapping many villains in separate cages, allowing the Heroes to push them into several more Warp Gates, separating them all over Japan. Yuga is one of the Heroes to stay behind in the parking lot to deal with the villains that weren't caught in the traps, put in the care of Fat Gum to be watched over. Fat Gum gives Yuga credit for his taunting words from earlier, which he tries to recover from.[46]

In the middle of the battle, Yuga and Fat Gum are confronted by the Tartarus escapee and serial killer, Kunieda, who notes that there have been no one who has deceived All For One and lived to tell the tale, and he will be no exception. He declares that as All For One's next assassin, he'll show how to get the job done, and asks Yuga if he's ready to be the next target, which he confidently responds to.[47]

Fat Gum leads the assault against the villains who weren't caught by the Troy system, and after defeating the others, all but one of the 32 Heroes are defeated by Kunieda. He uses his plants to consume the entire area, capturing and consuming the Heroes, and using their bodies as fertilizers. Fat Gum and Yuga are caught by Kunieda as plants, spores, and fungus are painfully sprouting out of their bodies. Kunieda mocks that there's no need for light or photosynthesis, since his seedlings only require flesh to thrive, just as the roots begin to consume and overwhelm Fat Gum, rendering his Fat Absorption Quirk useless. He uses his last strength to tell Yuga to show them what he's made of, before he is transformed into a plant as well.

Despite his belt destroyed by Kunieda, Yuga proceeds to release a barrage of Navel Lasers that blast all over the arena, which the one remaining hero, Toru Hagakure, is able to use to release Warp Refraction: Navel Laser, decimating Kunieda with a barrage of light.[48] After he's defeated, Fat Gum and the rest of the Heroes were freed, but their bodies were still rooted by the plants in their flesh, so Yuga and Toru begin to burn away all the roots to fully rescue them.[49]

Shota had managed to regain control of "Kurogiri" and has begun warping himself all around to gather up all the Heroes that can still fight to provide reinforcements for the final battle. Fat Gum, accompanied by many rescued Heroes from Kuneida, are warped to Mt. Fuji to help Izuku in his fight against "All For One". With all the assembled Heroes, together they declare "We are here!"[50]

As Izuku runs toward "All For One", the villain unleashed hordes of Quirk attack all over the battlefield, blasting away every Hero who gets in his way, but they all keep countering against his attacks. Shota then calls out to the Heroes through their comms, telling them to help Izuku carve a straight path to Tomura. "All For One" retaliates by sending a large Rivet Stab structure to crush Izuku, but Eijiro, Mina, and Fat Gum rush in and push it away, with Eijiro and Mina telling him he's got it and to get it done, which he says he will. Eventually, Izuku come into direct contact with the villain and bashes him with a Smash right through his chest.[51] Eventually, Izuku manages to defeat Tomura once and for all before the villain succumbs to his injuries and dies as his body disintegrates into ashes.[52]

One week after the end of the Final War, the restoration efforts that were stalled after the Jaku Hospital Raid have picked back up at a breakneck pace as Heroes from all around the world arrived to provide support and resources in rescue and rebuilding Japan. Fat Gum has recovered from his injuries and continues to do the reconstruction efforts in rebuilding the country.[53] Later, Class A join up with some Heroes in a city on reconstruction duty, assisting Fat Gum, Suneater, and Best Jeanist in demolishing and repairing a section of buildings.[54]
