Synopsis#

Forest Training Camp Arc#

Shota Aizawa brings his students to the Beast's Forest in order to train under the Wild, Wild Pussycats. When the students arrive, Mandalay and Pixie-Bob try to introduce themselves as half of the Pussycat's team, but are interrupted by one of the students: Izuku Midoriya, who is a fan that recognizes the Pussycats and excitedly explains their history, much to their shock at his knowledge.

Izuku mentions how long they've been active and this irritates Pixie-Bob, who grabs his face and states that she's eighteen years old at heart. Mandalay explains that Class 1-A is still far away from the base camp and will have to travel there through the Beast's Forest. She tells them they have three hours to fight their way to the forest, and if they don't make it in time, then they won't receive any lunch.

The students try to run back onto their bus, but Pixie-Bob jumps in front of them and uses her Quirk to push them off of the mountaintop and into the forest. Mandalay asks Shota if he's sure the students can handle the training schedule he's laid out for them. Shota replies that the students must work hard to get a full semester's worth of lessons into the summer. They will receive permits to use their Quirks, provisional hero licenses and, most importantly, learn to defend themselves. Mandalay, Shota, and Kota leave Pixie-Bob to test the students.[9]

Almost eight hours later, Class 1-A finally makes their way to the base camp. Battered and bruised, the students are confused on how it took them nearly eight hours to complete a three-hour journey. Mandalay taunts them and says she meant it would take the Pussycat's three hours. Pixie-Bob admits she's still impressed and takes a special liking to Izuku, Shoto, Tenya, and Katsuki for their skills. Shota asks if Pixie-Bob has always been like this and Mandalay states that it's gotten worse and that she's at the age to take a mate. Izuku asks who Kota is and Mandalay replies that he is her cousin. She tells Kota to introduce himself, but he punches Izuku in the crotch and storms off instead.

Mandalay and Pixie-Bob serve the students dinner, as she ask Kota to help her with some vegetables and eventually posts him on top of the wall between the male and female hot springs after Shota tells her tells that one of the boys will try to look at the girls while they're naked. After Kota falls from the aforementioned wall, Izuku brings him to the cabin's office. Mandalay thanks Izuku for saving Kota, and commends his skills for being fast enough to catch him. She explains that Kota simply fainted from the wall and that he will be alright. Izuku questions Kota's views on heroes, unable to understand why he hates them so much.

Pixie-Bob enters the room and tells Izuku that Kota's parents sacrificed themselves protecting citizens. Mandalay explains that Kota sees their sacrifice as them abandoning him for their hero work. She admits that Kota doesn't like the Pussycats either because they're pro heroes and that he may feel like he's only around them because he has nowhere else to go.[1]

The next day, the full Wild, Wild Pussycats team unites to train both Class 1-A and Class 1-B. Mandalay and her teammates all explain their Quirks and how it will help train all forty students at once. Mandalay says her Quirk is Telepathy, allowing her to give advice to every student throughout the camp.[10]

The evening of the following day, Class 1-A, and Class 1-B participate in a test a courage in the forest. During which, Mandalay and the Pussycats notice the mountainside start to burn. Suddenly, Pixie-Bob is attacked by two members of the League of Villains.[11]

Mandalay uses her telepathy to instruct everyone to avoid the villains and return to base camp. She tells the students close to her to return as well and prepares to fight Spinner and Magne with Tiger.[12] In the ensuing battle, Mandalay manages to avoid Spinner's giant sword and tries to strike back after distracting him with her Quirk. She misses and then Magne uses her Quirk to magnetize Mandalay towards her. Tiger saves her from Magne's attack. Once she's free, Mandalay informs Tiger that she cannot contact Ragdoll.[13]

Mandalay continues to fight in close quarters with Spinner. She's forced to evade several quick attacks from his giant blade until Izuku returns and breaks it with a powerful dropkick. He informs her that he was able to secure Kota's safety and that he has a message from Shota. Mandalay uses her Quirk to relay Shota's message to all of the students in Class 1-A and 1-B. Shota grants them permission to fight back against the villains in order to protect themselves.[14]

Mandalay tells Izuku to return to base camp, but he refuses, replying that he still has something to do. He rushes off, but not before telling Mandalay that one of the villains targets is a student named "Kacchan." Spinner stops Magne from attacking Izuku and they argue over Stain's principles. Mandalay knocks Spinner down with a punch while he's distracted. Mandalay relays Izuku's warning to the students and asks that Kacchan should try to avoid combat and stay in a group.[15]

Later, Tiger and Mandalay manage to overpower the villains, but they are soon interrupted by Kurogiri, who arrives and rescues the two villains.[16]

Hideout Raid Arc#

The villain Vanguard Action Squad escapes the forest after achieving their goal of kidnapping Katsuki, but Mandalay and Tiger discover that their partner Ragdoll has also been kidnapped.[17] Because she has to take care of her nephew Kota, Mandalay cannot participate in the rescue operation with her partner Tiger.[18]

The rescue operation ends successfully. Katsuki is rescued and All For One, the leader of the Villains League, is arrested and sent to prison. Ragdoll is also rescued, but she can no longer be a hero because All For One had stolen her Quirk. Mandalay and her companions try to comfort a disconsolate Ragdoll.[19]

Pro Hero Arc#

When the Pussycats visited U.A. High School, Shino and her team do their introductions again before giving the Class 1-A students chocolates she made. Shino watches Kota and Izuku talk before she points out to the new shoes Kota has, which look exactly like Izuku's shoes. This leaves Kota embarrassed after Izuku point out the match and Shino giggles at the sight.

AsRikido gives out tea, he asks why the Pussycats have decided to pay them a visit. They reply that they came to celebrate Ragdoll's reinstatement to provide support for the Pussycats, at least as a secretary, due the loss of her Quirk, as they informed that All For One cannot transfer the Quirk he stole back to its original user or to another person. Momo wonders why the Pussycats would rejoin at this time; Mandalay states that the Hero Billboard Chart JP will be broadcasted and that they are 411th on the billboard chart. Eijiro assumes that the Pussycats have returned so that they can rank higher, to which Ragdoll refutes and replies that they have returned due to their high approval ratings meaning that there are many fans who want to see them back in action.[20]

Paranormal Liberation War Arc#

Next year, by the end of March, thanks to the police investigations, and the information leaked by Hawks, who was acting as a spy, the Hero Public Safety Commission organize the Heroes and the Police Force to take down the Paranormal Liberation Front. The Pussycats participates with other heroes in a meeting where Detective Naomasa informs them about Dr. Kyudai Garaki, the current board chairman of Jaku General Hospital, is an ally of Tomura Shigaraki and the creator of the Nomu, and that there is a section of the hospital that only he can access.[21][22]

The Pussycats are part of the team of heroes lead by Endeavor in charge of raiding on Jaku General Hospital. Mandalay, thanks to her Quirk, takes charge in evacuating the patients, visitors, and hospital staff from the building, while another group is in charge of arresting the Doctor. The situation gets complicated when he releases a horde of Nomu to escape to his secret laboratory and plans to awaken Tomura from his stasis, but Mandalay and her group succeeded in escorting the hospital before the fighting formally starts.[23]

Regardless, the heroes manage to defeat all the creatures, storm the laboratory, and arrest the Doctor before he could fully awaken Tomura.[24] It seemed that the mission had successfully ended, but at that moment Tomura awakens and uses his Decay. The Decay spreads through the hospital, completely disintegrating it and killing several heroes who were trying to flee. However the destruction does not stop but continues to spread.

While escaping, Mandalay watches as her teammate Pixie-Bob uses her Quirk Earth Flow to try and hold the decay back, but it isn't effective and the decay spreads to the city.[25]

U.A. Traitor Arc#

In the aftermath of the Paranormal Liberation War, All For One has escaped from Tartarus, and proceeded to break into several more maximum security prisons, liberating the inmates. Due to the chaos inflicted by Gigantomachia and the mass breakout of prisoners, the whole country entered a state of total chaos and anarchy. In addition, many heroes resigned and called it quits because of the massive criticism of their work, and the destruction spreading unchecked. Mandalay and the Wild, Wild Pussycats are one of the few heroes remaining and does her best to stop the villains and apprehend them as much as she can.

In the month that followed since the War, Mandalay and the Wild, Wild Pussycats were also training Class 1-A to continue improving their Quirks while Izuku had gone rogue after he left U.A.[26]

Final War Arc#

With Tomura's completion approaching, those that remain develop a plan to defeat All For One and his army of villains in the all-or-nothing battle of the Final War. Knowing that All For One is keeping tabs on the Heroes through Search, his mole Yuga Aoyama and his family are utilized in order to lure him out of hiding. Their next step of the plan is to make use of Kurogiri's Warp Gate to allow them to warp themselves into the fight, to catch All For One off guard, as well as warp the villains to locations all over Japan, separating them.[27]

The Heroes successfully warp all the Villains all over Japan, with Tomura being warped to the now floating U.A. Fortress, designed to contain and defeat him. Mandalay is positioned there as support to use her Quirk to keep in contact with the fighters and help coordinate. Unfortunately, their plan starts to fall apart when Izuku doesn't show up, due to being pulled into another Warp Gate at the last moment, followed by Tomura's left hand suddenly transforming into a monstrous blob of fingers.

Everyone soon realizes the the grotesque swarm of fingers is simply "growth" from the body, making his body trying to adapt to his ever-evolving Quirks, the form leading to the next step of their superhuman society: Doctor Kyudai Garaki's Quirk Singularity. Mandalay is able to get in contact with Izuku, informing Shota, who tells him he'll have to make it to them on his own, as they can not activate Warp Gate as it will undo the Erasure used on Tomura, which will result in the immediate death of them all.[28]

During the battle, Katsuki ends up being beaten to near death and the Heroes are overwhelmed by Tomura's strength. Shota asks for Izuku's status from Mandalay, but she tells him she is unable to reach him, as the electromagnetic waves are messing with their transmissions.[29] She also ends up noticing that an unknown party has started to hack into U.A.'s defense systems.[30]

Fortunately, Mandalay receives word that Izuku has finally arrived at U.A., and makes a a telepathic call to all of the heroes, telling them that they'll need to lift the electromagnetic barrier, so they need two seconds to keep Tomura busy. After Tomura morphs his body in his absolute defense form, Mirio was able to distract Tomura long enough for Izuku to prepare himself as the electric force field barrier was shut down and slingshots himself right into Tomura's face,[31] successfully shutting the barrier again once he's entered.[32]

Now inside of the electric barrier, Izuku unleashed an onslaught of catastrophic damage to Tomura using his new Quirk: Gearshift and overwhelms Tomura with a barrage of Quirks in his arsenal until he successfully destroyed Tomura's absolute defense form. Despite receiving all the damage, Tomura refused to yield the fight and his body undergoes another transformation.[33]

However, the worse has come when a freed Kurogiri uses his Warp Gate to teleport himself and Present Mic right behind Neito, Manual, and Shota. He opens a second Warp Gate which ejects Twice Doubles conjured by Himiko who unleashed Sad Man's Parade all over them, swarming them with infinite Doubles. Despite Shota and Manual's best efforts, they are overwhelmed and the Twice Doubles dogpile on Neito, causing him to shut his eyes and undoing Erasure. As a result, Tomura unleashes a massive explosion, destroying most of the U.A. Fortress. With the power line busted and the electromagnetic barrier barely standing, Mandalay then reports in that someone has hacked into their system and they have lost control of the flight system, causing the fortress to fall to the ground.

She warns everyone that with Erasure undone, Tomura has access to his Quirks now, and if he manages to escape and U.A. falls, everyone is doomed.[34] She proceeds to escort the students out of the electricity facility to safety, as they spot the swarm of Twice Doubles. As U.A. continues to fall, they are saved when it suddenly stops, with Mandalay reporting that it feels like the air has become a trampoline. This is thanks to Gentle intervening with his Quirk.[35]

La Brava successfully restores the flight system, but the Twice Doubles prove to be too much trouble for the Heroes on the observation deck. Mandalay attempts to assist as she and the other students spot both Shota and Present Mic being knocked off the structure by the Doubles, but before they could plummet to their deaths, "Kurogiri" suddenly reappears beneath them, as he opens a Warp Gate, and teleports all three of them away. Denki is surprised that he saved them, but Mandalay notes this also got rid of Erasure for good, which could only help Tomura, so with Shota now missing and his Erasure gone, Mandalay grimly tells everyone telepathically that all they can do now is believe in Izuku to finish the fight.[36]

As she coordinates with the Heroes and the students to fend off against the endless swarm of Twice Doubles, they do so long enough for Himiko to be defeated, allowing the swarm to vanish into thin air.[37] Due to the excessive damage inflicted during the fighting, U.A. can no longer maintain its altitude and was forced to make an emergency crash landing at the nearby coastal city. Mandalay proceeds to help escort the injured students and Heroes to safety, including an unconscious Neito on a stretcher.[38]

Epilogue Arc#

Eight years later, Shino has become the legal guardian of Eri in addition to Kota. One day when Eri is visting U.A., she brings a gift to Shota from Shino, thanking him for teaching Kota.[39]
