Synopsis#
U.A. Sports Festival Arc#
Shihai first appears at the opening ceremony for the U.A. Sports Festival. He takes the field with his fellow classmates in Class 1-B.[1] Shihai is able to qualify for the Cavalry Battle after taking thirtieth place in the Obstacle Race.[2] For this event, Shihai teams up with classmates Neito Monoma, Sen Kaibara, and Kosei Tsuburaba.[3] Team Monoma loses their points to Team Bakugo, therefore not advancing to the tournament.[4]
Forest Training Camp Arc#
When Class 1-B arrives at the training camp, their homeroom teacher Vlad King explains that they will be extending their Quirks and that the more they use their Quirks, the stronger they will be by breaking their limits. When Class 1-B witnesses Class 1-A's training, Itsuka asks Shota how they can observe everyone, and he explains that is the reason the Wild, Wild Pussycats are around.[5]
Later that night, Class 1-B acts as the scaring group during the test of courage. However, the fun is interrupted when the Vanguard Action Squad of the League of Villains rampage through the forest in search of Katsuki Bakugo. It is later revealed during the aftermath that Shihai was among the 15 students that were in critical condition thanks to Mustard's Gas.[6]
Shie Hassaikai Arc#
Neito Monoma reveals that all of Class 1-B has passed the Provisional Hero License Exam, including Shihai.[7]
Joint Training Arc#
Shihai and the rest of Class 1-B arrive at the Joint Training Battle with Neito loudly claiming that the momentum is now moving to their side. Upon selecting teams, Shihai is paired up with Itsuka, Kinoko, and Manga for the Round 2.[8][9]
As the second round starts, Fumikage and Shihai discuss the similarities of their Quirks, expressing their mutual understanding of the darkness and declaring a fated battle between themselves. The battle begins as Team 2-A sends Dark Shadow to ambush Team 2-B, Shihai takes advantage by hijacking the dark entity and uses it to counterattack against Fumikage. Momo tries to capture Shihai once he flees from Dark Shadow's body and fuses with the shadows of a nearby pipe. However, it is revealed that Shihai's declaration towards 1-A was all a ruse as he immediately switches to hiding within the shadows and attempts to drag Yuga Aoyama away from his team.[10]
Despite this, Fumikage manages to save Yuga from Shihai's clutches using his newfound technique from his mentor Hawks. Momo then tells Yuga to shoot out his Navel Buffet☆Laser, which forces the scheming hero to escape from the shadows. Toru tries to capture him but Kinoko's interference with Momo's plan allows Shihai to blend in with some dark-colored mushrooms.[11]
Thanks to Kinoko's plan, Shihai manages to catch Fumikage off guard by swiftly dragging Yuga towards his team's cage through the dark-colored mushrooms. He later meets up with Kinoko, in which she compliments him on his success, and suggests that they take the initiative to attack the 1-A team together, since that they have kept their locations hidden thus far. Shihai questions Kinoko's conclusion, as he notices Fumikage heading straight for them. Fumikage proceeds to attack the two with Black Abyss: Sabbath, which scatters both Shihai and Kinoko. Shihai attempts to find somewhere to hide, but Fumikage traps him with his cloak. Despite this, Kinoko and Itsuka's intervention allows his team to win the match.[12]
Later on, Shihai and Fumikage are shown to have bonded with each other. Both chuunibyous express interest in Izuku's new Blackwhip technique, wondering what to name it during the aftermath of Round 5.[13] Shihai and his classmates are present when Vlad King announces that Hitoshi Shinso will be joining the Hero Department next year. In the evening, Class 1-B visits Class 1-A's dormitories for socializing and dinner. Shihai shows a bit of jealousy when he watches Kinoko, who actually wanted "private" pictures of Hawks, engage in a conversation with Fumikage.[14]
Endeavor Agency Arc#
With the Hero Public Safety Commission's demand of all the students heroes participate in practical field training, Shihai and Kinoko are working together.[15]
Paranormal Liberation War Arc#
The months go by until it's late March. The Hero Public Safety Commission had uncovered the plans of Tomura Shigaraki and his organization, the Paranormal Liberation Front. They organize a large force of heroes to take the villain organization down. While a team of heroes raid the Jaku General Hospital, where the Nomu are created, another team does the same at Gunga Mountain Villa, the Front's main headquarters.
Shihai is a member of the Villa Backup Team along with some of his classmates and Class 1-A students. Their mission is to provide support to the heroes who raid the Gunga Mountain Villa and prevent villains from escaping.[16][17] Despite the successful surprise attack in the villa, the plan is ultimately falling apart when Gigantomachia has started to move after Tomura has awakened in the Jaku General Hospital.
After picking up the League of Villains from the villa, Gigantomachia started to streak across the landscape in order to reach Tomura, scraping and decimating many of the heroes who get in his way. With the Villa Raid team still occupied at the villa dealing with the Paranormal Liberation Front, Momo received final words from Midnight and rallies everyone in Class 1-A and 1-B to prepare themselves to fight the rampaging behemoth and the League of Villains coming their way.[18]
As Gigantomachia comes into their direction, Momo plans a trap for the heroes to setup before the behemoth arrives to their location. She gives each of her classmates a capsule full of anesthesia that is potent enough to knock the giant unconscious when they throw it into the mouth. Once the traps are set, the students detonate explosives deep in the mushy ground formed by Juzo Honenuki, halting the giant into sinking down. The students attack the giant and the villains, but none of them are strong enough to take the beast head-on.
Dabi incenerates the surrounding forest area that blocks Shihai from using the shadows in the flames, and other students from getting closer, but Mina Ashido successfully runs through the flames thanks to coating her body with Acidman which nullifies the flames. She loses her capsule and was about to be crushed when Eijiro Kirishima pushed her aside to save her life. Once Eijiro manages to climb his way up to Gigantomachia, Shihai and the U.A. students fire cannons created by Momo to distract the behemoth long enough to allow Eijiro to throw the anesthesia capsule into the mouth successfully. The rest of the heroes from the Villa arrive to assist the students.[19]
However, things turn for the worse when Gigantomachia still managed to move on his own and grinds the heroes to dust, but Majestic rescues the students by using his Magic to levitate the students out of the way before he was killed. Gigantomachia has successfully broke free and rampages toward Jaku City to reach Tomura, as the students watch in horror of the situation growing even more worse than ever.[20]
Final War Arc#
In the month that followed, and in the aftermath of the Paranormal Liberation War, All For One has escaped from Tartarus and proceeds to break into several more maximum security prisons, liberating the inmates. Due to the chaos inflicted by Gigantomachia and the mass breakout of prisoners, the whole country entered a state of total chaos and anarchy. In addition, many heroes resigned and called it quits because of the massive criticism of their work, and the destruction spreading unchecked. With the Heroes' numbers dwindling rapidly, those that remain prepare themselves for the Final War against the army of villains led by All For One.
While many teams are assigned to take on groups of Villains that are warped to various areas all over Japan, Shihai is part of the team dedicated to protecting the civilians in the Underground Evacuation System between U.A. and Shiketsu High School. Everything goes relatively well as the moving segments are being shifted between the two schools, however, some of the moving segments suddenly stop, as a result of some of All For One's spies jamming the system. With the blocks compromised and the sleeper agents apprehended, the civilians are evacuated out of the underground and quickly escorted out of danger. Shihai is among several of his 1-B classmates in helping complete this evacuation.[21]
Sometime later, after gaining control of "Kurogiri", Shota arrives at the U.A. Evacuation Center with the intention of recruiting the Heroes assigned to the evacuation and protection of the civilians, alongside any other active Heroes, to provide reinforcements for the final battles of the war. Shihai is among the Heroes warped to Mt. Fuji to assist in Izuku's fight against "All For One".[22] Shihai and some of his 1B classmates have also been teleported to the battlefield so they can help Izuku defeat "All For One". With all the Heroes assembled, they declare "We are here!"[23] "All For One" retaliates by haphazardly unleashing all of his Quirks at the Heroes, but the Heroes counter each attack to carve a path for Izuku straight to Tomura. He manages to get in close and smashes him right through his chest.[24] Eventually, Izuku manages to defeat Tomura once and for all, just before Tomura succumbs to his injuries and dies as his body disintegrates into ashes.[25]
One week after the end of the Final War, the restoration efforts that were stalled after the Jaku Hospital Raid have picked back up at a breakneck pace, as Heroes from around the world arrived to provide support and resources in rescue and rebuilding Japan. A few weeks later, Shihai recovers from his injuries after the end of the war and returns to the partially rebuilt U.A.[26]
Weeks later, it is now June, and the third-year students at U.A. High are finally having their graduation after the end of the Final War. Shihai attends the U.A. High Graduation along with the rest of his classmates. She watches the Third years receive their diplomas. Present Mic, who is MC-ing the event, apologizes for the delayed graduation, and shouts for excitement and the third years enthusiastically join in, while the former second years watching are start to get the jist of it, and the former first years watch speechless.
Mawata Fuwa comes to the stage to give the students a farewell speech. After Mawata Fuwa gives the farewell address as the students' representative, Present Mic calls on the graduates' representative, Mirio. He starts off his speech with a sincere statement thanking everyone for being in attendance, befuddling them all for not starting off with a gag, but reminds everyone they lost so much and gained nothing, and that a Heroes fight is to bring a negative situation back to square one. He concludes that a world without smiles and humor has no bright future, that they seek a positive world where people can live their lives in good cheer, and that is the finish line they're racing toward. He snaps, using his Quirk to blast of into the air, shouting to his underclassmen just as Bibimi Kenranzaki unleashes her giant robot on the cheering crowd.[27]
Epilogue Arc#
Eight years after the Final War, Shihai has become a Pro Hero and entered a relationship with Kinoko. Toru Hagakure later informs Class 1-A of the latter, surprised Mina Ashido.[28]
