U.A. High School#
Class 1-A#
While they get along generally speaking, most of Class 1-A has a fairly low opinion of Minoru as a person due to his perverted antics and cowardly nature. The boys and girls alike tend to scold or punish him whenever he does or says something lewd, and this carries over to the rest of the staff. Despite this, Minoru does make a few close friends during his time at U.A., and the class does generally acknowledge his power growth over time.
Izuku Midoriya#
Izuku is a fellow student of Minoru's in Class 1-A, sitting in front of Minoru in class. Minoru has come to admire Izuku for his acts of heroism and for believing in his abilities as a hero, although he is somewhat skeptical at first of Izuku's determination. Minoru's perverse antics usually gross Izuku out, with the most noticeable occurrence being in Save! Rescue Training, where Minoru is forbidden to carry any female rescues due to inquiring about holding their behinds. Despite this, Izuku is not as vocal about it as others are.
The two have become friends, particularly following their battle together against the League of Villains. He was one of the people who went to see Izuku after his loss to Shoto during the U.A. Sports Festival and became frantic along with the others upon hearing that he required surgery, showing that Minoru cares for his wellbeing. They have also been seen talking to each other and hanging out in-between classes on occasion.
He was quite amazed to see that Izuku overcame his drawbacks and improve in the Rescue training race.[1]
It appears he has picked up some of Izuku's habits, as he used his own knowledge of heroes' Quirks to defeat Midnight. Minoru also engaged in commentary with Izuku during the Joint Training Battle.
Like Denki, Minoru has been shown too be slightly jealous of Izuku gaining affection from females. This was first shown when Hanta made the claim that Camie Utsushimi (who was actually Himiko Toga in disguise) was hiding with Izuku while naked, with Minoru specifically screaming and assuming he crossed "several bases" with her at that time.[2] A tamer instance of this happened earlier during their time at I-Expo, when they, along with the other girls in attendance, thought Izuku was romantically involved with Melissa Shield in secret, with Minoru hungrily negging his friend to "stop being greedy" and introduce him and Denki to her.[3] Later on, when Izuku and Ochaco after they share a moment in front of the whole class, Minoru deduced the budding relationship between the two and quickly became jealous.[4]
During the battle between Class 1-A and Deku, Minoru says that he never thought the power of One For All was amazing, but what made Minoru admire Izuku was how he leads everyone to victory despite being scared himself.[5] Upon Izuku's return to U.A., Minoru was the most desperate to comfort him when he broke down into tears, running up to him before being stopped by Tenya and then running up to him later alongside Kota to hug him. Minoru also joined the others in bathing Izuku and agreed with him on forgiving Yuga Aoyama for unwillingly being All For One's mole within U.A. High.
Tsuyu Asui#
Tsuyu is frequently seen together with Minoru, although she constantly punishes him for perverted behavior or insensitive comments. Tsuyu most often hits Minoru with her tongue.
However, the two seem to be on friendly terms, moreso than Minoru's relationships with the other girls. This can largely be attributed to them working together along with Izuku to defeat several villains in U.S.J. Arc and he even earned her praise for his ingenuity. They also worked together during the Cavalry Battle of the U.A. Sports Festival Arc alongside Mezo. Both also went to check on Izuku after his fight with Shoto.
Momo Yaoyorozu#
Minoru is greatly attracted to Momo due to her attractiveness, womanly figure, and her Quirk requiring her to use her skin. As a result, she has been on the receiving end of many of Minoru's perverted ploys. In fact, out of all the girls in Class 1-A, Minoru seems to be by far the most attracted to her.
During the Obstacle Race at the U.A. Sports Festival, Minoru used his Quirk to attach himself to Momo's back, knowing that her speed would help him arrive at the finishing line sooner. Later on, Minoru and Denki tricked Momo and the other girls into wearing cheerleader outfits, that Momo created herself using her Creation Quirk, much to the girl's anger and humiliation.
In return, Momo cannot stand Minoru's perverted behavior and is often seen rebuking him with angered or disgusted looks.
Denki Kaminari#
Due to their shared perverted interest in girls, Denki and Minoru frequently hang out with each other. They both once played a prank on the Class 1-A girls during the U.A. Sports Festival, where they tricked them into wearing cheerleading outfits for their own personal amusement. Together, they tricked Izuku to help persuade Shota Aizawa to give them permission to use the school pool just to see the girls in their bikinis. Although they were both disappointed to find the girls wearing school-issued swimsuits, Minoru was still appreciative that the girls were wearing swimsuits while Denki insisted he get standards. Despite Denki's interest in girls, he still respects the girls' privacy and tells Minoru that he's taking it too far when he reveals his plans to climb the wall to spy on the girls' side of the hot springs. When a peephole to the girls' locker room was discovered Minoru felt it was a blessing while Denki was shocked.
They have also discussed other things, such as potential Ultimate Moves that they might develop. Denki was jealous that Minoru got a higher grade than him at the exams which meant he was more intelligent.[6]
Hanta Sero#
Hanta is often seen chastising Minoru for his perverse actions, though they get along as well. Minoru was also cheering for Hanta during his battle with Shoto in the Sports Festival.
They were paired up in their First Term Final Exam against Midnight and Hanta used his tape to get Minoru away from Midnight's Quirk, leaving Hanta himself susceptible and thus incapacitated. Despite this, Minoru was envious of Hanta, since he was able to use Midnight as a lap pillow while unconscious. However, due to Hanta's actions, Minoru was able to best Midnight and carried Hanta through the exit. Minoru took great pride in hearing Hanta admit that he couldn't have beat Midnight without his help.
Katsuki Bakugo#
Minoru shares a rather negative relationship with Katsuki. Like his other classmates, Minoru is put-off by his loud-mouthed nature and violent behavior, while Katsuki constantly derides Minoru as a coward and a weakling. During the Sports Festival, Minoru condemned Katsuki's relentless attacks on Ochaco, calling him a sadist. Later on, when Katsuki ruins his interviews and gets himself cut due to his abrasive commentary, he calls Katsuki nuts.
In spite of this, Minoru was greatly worried when Katsuki was injured during the Paranormal Liberation War, and upon waking up from his two-day coma, Minoru shouted out in relief, going so far as to hug him with tears flowing down his cheeks.[7] He also aided his classmates in restraining him after he causes a ruckus. However, he was aware that he was upset about Izuku still being unconscious.[8]
Like with Izuku, Minoru is shown to envy when Katsuki receives female attention. Shortly after returning to school as second years, Minoru enviously glared at him and Shoto when the two were bombarded by the new first year students, including many fangirls. Shortly afterwards, Minoru angrily grumbled that bad boys don't deserve chicks.[9]
Kyoka Jiro#
While the two don't interact much, Kyoka despises Minoru's perverted behavior, just as the other girls do. He is often the recipient of her chastising or punishment with her Quirk on a few occasions.
On the other hand, Minoru doesn't seem to pay Kyoka as much attention as the other girls in class 1-A, which she takes offense to, as it is suggested that Minoru doesn't see her as attractive. This was seen during Minoru's attempt to peek in on the girls locker room and he didn't bring up Kyoka while fawning over the other girls, which she noted just after stabbing him in the eye with one of her earphone cables.[1] Minoru also ridiculed her smaller chest size on one occasion, which angered her greatly.[10]
Despite this, Minoru doesn't seem to hate Kyoka, and in spite her punishing him for his behavior, this seems to go both ways. While debating over who should do the lead vocals for the U.A. School Festival, Minoru is shown to be greatly shocked by Kyoka's beautiful singing voice, alongside the rest of the class. Beforehand, he also commented on Kyoka's dress at the I-Island Expo party, although this earned both him and Denki a jab from her earphone cables, despite Denki insisting it was a compliment.
During 1-A's hot pot party, Kyoka is shown teasing Minoru over the upcoming final exams and asks if he's worried over failing them, something the rest of the class jokingly laughed at.[11]
Eight years after Class 1-A all graduate and become Pro Heroes, Minoru shouts at his classmates during a get-together for talking about their high rankings while he's at the very bottom as the No. 108 Hero. Here, Kyoka pokes fun at Minoru, saying that the ranking suits him while Mina tells him to chill.[12]
Mina Ashido#
Minoru finds Mina to be attractive, with her being one of his many targets in the class. Like the rest of the girls in Class 1-A, Mina despises Minoru's perverted attitude towards them and was rightly annoyed when the boy attempted to peek on her and the others through a peephole in the girl's locker room. She was also irritated to find out he was actually smart, when he scored higher than her. [6]
Outside of this, Mina is well-aware of Minoru's naughty personality and has on occasion used this to motivate and or convince him. During the planning stage for the School Festival, Mina convinced a dispirited Minoru (who couldn't reach the guitar strings due to his small size) to take part by promising him a harem part in the performance, this caused Minoru to quickly come around while in joy and Mina later made good on her promise. In My Hero Academia: Heroes: Rising, Mina tricked Minoru into leaving to assist someone with lost luggage after mentioning that the girl sounded really cute over the phone. In the anime, Mina is also shown throwing a few playful teases to annoy Minoru.
During the Joint Training Battle, Mina is teamed with Minoru alongside Ochaco and Izuku. Mina is thankful when Minoru uses Grape Buckler to shield her from Nirengeki Shoda's attack, although quickly becomes angry again when Minoru used the recoil of this attack to bounce right into her chest area. Mina responds by throwing Minoru with her Acid Layback, causing him to bounce around in a combination Ultimate Move: Grape-Pinky Combo Mineta-Bounce. Despite her team later securing victory, it's clear that Mina was still angry at Minoru's scheme and demanded that Vlad King punish him for being “the worst”. Later on while classes 1-A and 1-B socialize in the dorm area, Mina subjects Minoru to the Ludovico Technique as punishment for his actions.
An instance of the two of them being friendly was seen at the end of World Heroes Mission, when the two are shown happily jumping together in the end credits scene. Later, Mina comforts Minoru when he worries about the safety of Midnight.
Faculty#
Eraser Head#
Shota is aware of Minoru's perverted personality, he even does not hesitate to describe him as the "embodiment of lust". Although Shota does not do much to correct this attitude, he does not allow Minoru to cross certain lines of human decency, especially when it comes to peek on girls. Due to his attitude, Minoru is scared of his homeroom teacher when he stops him.
For this reason, Shota usually warns other people about Minoru’s attitude so that they take the necessary measures in this regard, or he generates an aura of intimidation to make sure that Minoru does not do anything perverted.
However, there appears to be mutual respect since Minoru once helped Izuku and Tsuyu rescue Shota from Nomu. Shota also supports him by giving him confidence when he feels overwhelmed by a challenge, as when Minoru was nervous about the Provisional Hero License Exam. Shota encourages him to do his best so that he can pass the exam and further his goal in becoming a Hero. This both scared and encourages the boy to trying his best.[13]
Midnight#
Because of his lecherous tendencies, Minoru was greatly attracted to her beauty. He was seen fawning over when she and Mt. Lady were fighting on a televised interview.
Minoru was forced to fight her in his First Term Final Exam along with Hanta. He was saved from her Quirk by Hanta though was envious, as she allowed Hanta to use her lap as a pillow. Midnight soon pursued him and took a sadistic joy in the act. However, Minoru admitted to being a fan of hers and knew about her Quirk from it. Using ingenious thinking, Minoru was not a victim to her Quirk and left her trapped as he dashed passed her and won the match. The Pro Hero was greatly impressed by his acts and complimented his strategy to best her.
Following the Paranormal Liberation War, Minoru was clearly horrified upon learning of her death, being left in a state of denial after witnessing the horrors of the war.[14]
All Might#
Minoru has expressed great admiration for the Symbol of Peace.
During the U.S.J. Arc, when the villains first attacked U.A. High and they revealed their plan to kill the symbol of peace, he immediately assured his classmates that no one could defeat All Might. Later on, during the fight between Nomu and All Might, Minoru cheered the hero on, confident he could defeat the bio-engineered enemy. While All Might was fighting All for One, Minoru was in tears, cheering the number one hero on and showing how dedicated he is towards the symbol of peace.
Pro Heroes#
Mt. Lady#
Due to his lecherous and naughty personality, originally Minoru chooses Mt. Lady for an internship. Tsuyu immediately accuses him of thinking something perverted when selecting her, although he denies it.[15]
Days later, when Denki asks Minoru about how his experience was with her, Minoru answers while quivering. Whatever he experienced under her gives him nothing but bad memories, and he tells Denki that all women are demons who hide their true personalities.[1] The anime shows that what he experienced was essentially being made into her servant, cleaning up and doing other menial labor around her office while she lazed around.
That bad experience continues to affect him, and now hearing her name terrifies him. When Denki comments that she forms a team with Kamui Woods and Edgeshot, Minoru starts shivering.[16]
When they meet again, he is alarmed to see her and immediately points out that Mt. Lady is the most "showbiz" hero out there. Mt. Lady ignores his protests and encourages him and his class to try their best for the "Hero Interview Training".[17]
Despite his lessened opinions and open lust for her, Minoru would eventually work with her again through joining The Lurkers during the second round of Hero Work-Studies, during which he would assist her and the rest of the team's efforts in Egypt during Mission: Humarise.[18][19] They would later fight on the same team to defend the dormant Gigantomachia from the Paranormal Liberation Front during the Final War.[20]
This continued even after graduating from high school, with Minoru working under her as a Sidekick until he took down a major Villain, after which he went solo.[21]
