Slide and Glide

ArticleSource revision

Not to be confused with the similarly-named Glide and Slide, the Quirk wielded by the Three Sturm und Drang Brothers. For the other Quirk named "Flight" used by Christopher Skyline, see Flight.

Slide and Glide is the Quirk used by Koichi Haimawari.

After Koichi goes by the hero name "The Skycrawler", this Quirk is reclassified as Flight.[1]

Description#

Slide and Glide allows the user to project an repulsive/attractive force from their hands and feet. Repulsive energy emits a blue glow [2], while attractive energy emits a green glow.[3]

The user can slide across surfaces by lightly repelling themselves away from any surface. The sliding gives the user great speed, initially allowing the user to travel as fast as a bike,[2] though Koichi has since proven to be able to move at speeds similar to a speeding bus.[4] The Quirk can also be used to go backwards, shift from side to side and to rotate as well.[5]

Koichi has also learned to cling to surfaces by attracting his hands and feet toward a surface instead.[3] He can use this to shimmy up the side of buildings,[6] as well as fully glide off of them as well.

By condensing the energy into a concentrated force on the palms of their hands, the user is capable of shooting out repulsion beams. The effectiveness can range from close up blasts, to light shots from a distance, to quick rapid fire, to even being able to directly pierce through an object.

Slide and Glide is also capable of limited flight, performing a mid-air jump which turns the contact surfaces on the feet into what are similar to rocket thrusters, allowing Koichi to boost into the air at high speed and high altitude. While his belief is that he can only perform two mid-air jumps before having to land, or else he will fall, it has been shown that he is capable of executing multiple mid-air jumps with no repercussion through sheer force of will.[7]

Koichi has reached a point of versatility with his Quirk, where not only does his top speed rival that of Overclock, and his repulsions able to neutralize the effect of detonation blasts, but that he can also project his repulsion force field on any part of his body, including his back.[8] He can even coat his entire body in his Quirk, similar to how Christopher Skyline's Flight Quirk functions, to act like a cast for his damaged body, and grant him light floating.[9]

Weaknesses#

After repeatedly falling headfirst during his childhood, Koichi's control of his Quirk weakened and he needed to contact a surface in at least three places before he could slide across it.[2] It was also capable of levitation through sliding across the air, before Koichi's strict mother had beat it out of him at a young age. Upon rescuing Makoto Tsukauchi he instinctively used it for limited flight,[4] and several years later learned how to execute full flight.

Koichi has stated that this Quirk can make him move far faster than a bike, but doing so is dangerous, as he has no brakes, and his power does not prevent him from taking damage from his Quirk. However, after receiving advice from Tensei Ida, Koichi learns to brake by accelerating in the opposite direction.[5]

The power of Koichi's repulsion beams have the capability of being able to dangerously pierce through anything, even human bodies if he so desired. However, Koichi intentionally holds himself back, specifically when using it against other people, due to Kazuho's concern over the deadly potential of the ability.

Named Ultimate Moves#

Kowtow Evasion: While bowing, Koichi slides backwards. It is first used to avoid Soga Kugisaki's kick.[2]

High-Speed Double Sweep: This technique allows Koichi to shoot down his enemies easily by extending his leg sideways and hooking his opponent's legs, tripping them.[10]

Wall Cling: Activating it by accident at first, Koichi is able to turn the repulsion force emitted from his limbs into an adhesive force, allowing him to stick to walls.[3]

Scrappy Thrust Style: By concentrating on one limb Koichi can fire a repulsion beam out of that limb.[11] He is able to fire consecutive light repulsion beams.[12]

The Crawler's Shooty-Go-Blam: By concentrating his shot he fires a more powerful charged repulsion blast. Koichi first used it in his battle against Octoid.[12][13]

The Crawler's Shooty-Go-Blam-Blam-Blam-Blam-Blam: Koichi fires a continuous burst of repulsion force blasts. Koichi first uses this move while protecting Captain Celebrity from a Bomber.[14]

Slap Style: A variation of the Scrappy Thrust Style for close combat. Koichi dodges and evades the attacks of the opponent, to then counterattack using the Scrappy Thrust. First used against two thugs.[15]

Double Shooty-Go-Blam: Koichi uses both hands to shoot two repulsion force bursts at the same time. First used against two thugs.[15]

Shooty-Go-Kablam: Koichi can concentrate the repulsion force of his palms to shoot a small projectile, but powerful enough to pierce straight through metal cans, or even a person.[16][17]

Extra Oomph: It allows Koichi to get a power boost and increase his own speed briefly. It is first used to outrun Number 6.[18]

Knuckle Style: Koichi projects a force field on his knuckles and weaponizes them.[9]

Trivia#

  • Slide and Glide is the first known Quirk to be renamed in-universe, after becoming "Flight".
  • Despite its similarities in name and function to Captain Celebrity's Flight, the Quirks each have slightly different spellings in Japanese.
