Koichi Haimawari & Team Idaten vs. Monster Cat

ArticleSource revision

Koichi Haimawari & Team Idaten vs. Monster Cat is a rescue operation where The Crawler and Ingenium try to save the passengers from a bus possessed by a cat with a Quirk.

Prologue#

Koichi spends the morning sightseeing several of Tokyo's landmarks along with his mother Shoko and his senpai Makoto Tsukauchi. While they are preparing to return to their home by bus, a cat hops onto the vehicle and gets injected with Trigger by one of Kuin Hachisuka's bees. This powers the cat's Quirk, allowing him to merge with the bus and causing the animalized vehicle to go out of control.

While keeping watch on top of a building, Knuckleduster notices the ruckus the runaway bus is causing. At first he ignores it because a cat can't give him intel on Trigger, but decides to take maneuvers to help whatever Pro Hero tries to stop it after noticing that Koichi is on board. He calls Kazuho Haneyama for assistance, who brings him a feather duster and duct tape on his request to make a cat toy.[1]

Battle#

On the bus, everyone panics as Monster Cat continues driving at full speed, swerving violently as he avoids other vehicles. In one of these instances, Koichi hits the bus window and notices Ingenium coming to the rescue.

The hero rips off the bus door to get inside and evaluates the situation. He is surprised to spot Koichi among the passengers and pretends not to know him, asking the driver if he can do anything to stop the runaway bus. The driver informs him he cannot stop or control the vehicle, to which the Pro Hero notices it would be difficult to stop something so big, fearing that it may crash into the shopping district.

Knuckleduster averts this scenario by using the makeshift cat toy to direct the bus onto the expressway, but the bus is now heading towards an overpass that was destroyed by the Kaiju Villain, leaving just five minutes to evacuate the passengers.

Team Idaten comes on its way with a truck, including their new recruit, Enigma, who uses her Gigantification Quirk to carefully transfer passengers from the uncontrolled bus to the truck. One by one, the passengers are saved until the last ones left to be rescued are Koichi's group, the bus driver and a tour guide.

Unfortunately, everything is being monitored by Kuin, who is not willing to let it end in such a boring way. After Enigma grabbed Koichi and his mother, Kuin gives the cat an extra dose of Trigger, making it enraged again. Monster Cat whips the truck with its tails, causing it to lose control and disabling the team rescue vehicle. The attack also causes the bus driver and tour guide to fall out of the runaway catbus, forcing Ingenium to jump out to save them, but leaving Makoto alone as the only person still on board.

Right as Ingenium goes after the bus to rescue her, he starts to run out of gas.[1] He informs his crew about this, but they can't help because the truck is out of commission due to the cat smacking it into a wall, and they don't have anyone fast enough to reach him to give him grapefruit juice. With no other options, they start asking if there is anyone with a mobility-type Quirk. With Makoto still on the runaway bus, Koichi suits up with a new All Might hoodie, and volunteers to help deliver fuel to Ingenium under his alias as The Crawler, despite Shoko's objections.

The Crawler manages to catches up Tensei and gives him the juice. With an even shorter time to get Makoto off, the two approach Monster Cat from behind, who tries to whip them with its tails. They both manage to dodge the attack, and Ingenium asks The Crawler try to distract the cat from the front while he gets Makoto from behind.

The Crawler overtakes the bus and gets in front of it, attracting the animal's attention to allow Ingenium to rescue Makoto. Unfortunately, the cat mistakes the hood's dangly antennae for another cat toy and gets excited, causing it to pounce at The Crawler to play with the "toy", much to his shock.

To prevent his temporary helper from being crushed, Ingenium is forced to use his Ultimate Move, Recipro Burst, to save The Crawler, kicking the cat bus, making him step back for a few moments before increasing its speed and get away, with Makoto still on board. Worse, having to do this causes his Engine Quirk to overheat, forcing him into a cooldown.

Ingenium begins to think about using his last resort, but fears that if he messes up, he will be totally out of action. His thoughts are interrupted when the Crawler states he’ll save Makoto on his own, despite Ingenium's warnings.

Without thinking, The Crawler starts to accelerate to catch the bus, with the speed accidentally unmasking him. He gets onto the vehicle to save Makoto, declaring he is here; Makoto is shocked to see Koichi truly is "The Cruller". Before they can get to safety, the bus begins to free fall from the the broken overpass.

Refusing to give up, Ingenium uses his Ultimate Move, Rocket Charge, going into hyper acceleration and leaping off of the edge of the freeway, yelling at The Crawler to jump off as he tries to catch him in midair. With Makoto on his back, The Crawler glides up the bus, rocketing up to Ingenium, but he just barely misses Ingenium and begins to plummet towards the ground with Makoto still in his arms.

Refusing to fail, The Crawler holds Makoto in his arms and by sheer force of willpower, he suddenly activates a new power of his Slide and Glide Quirk, allowing him to repel himself off of thin air and temporarily fly.

The Crawler manages to reach Ingenium, who holds Makoto as both Quirk users are able to land on the other side of the broken overpass, Ingenium carrying Makoto the last few meters and The Crawler tumbling due to his inexperience with actual flight. Despite the rough landing, he is okay, and gives a thumbs up to Ingenium and Makoto.[2]

Aftermath#

All the passengers of the bus are rescued and without any damage. Meanwhile, the bus comes crashing down as Kuin leaves the scene with the cat.

Sometime later, surprised by being able to jump in midair, Koichi tries to use his quirk to float, but he is only able to do 30cm. Koichi states he used the power before as a double-jump; and despite Kazuho thinking it was all in his imagination, Koichi states that it seems to be a one-time adrenaline-driven miracle that he cannot replicate again.[2]
