Shoko Haimawari

ArticleSource revision

Shoko Haimawari is the mother of Koichi Haimawari.[1]

Appearance#

Shoko is a tall, fair-skinned, slim middle-aged woman with dark colored eyes, and her hair neck-length and olive-brown, often styled into a bouffant.

She wears a navy-blue blazer with cuffs, and a dark dull brown high-neck top, which she wears with a gold necklace and a body-con matching skirt of her jacket, and dark magenta stockings with black flats.

During Koichi's childhood, her hair was styled into a bob-cut and she wore simpler clothes.

Personality#

Shoko is bossy with her son and is described by Koichi as "the strictest lady you'll ever meet". This is demonstrated by her slapping Koichi with her Quirk and reprimanding him for each mistake he makes. She possesses a domineering nature which she occasionally lets get out of hand, as she yelled at Kazuho Haneyama for her to say what she was thinking, causing her to run off in panic. Despite this, she can be kind and cordial, as she soon develops a good relationship with Makoto Tsukauchi and greets Takeshi Kuroiwa politely. She also held some remorse for causing Kazuho to run off after she yelled at her.

Shoko appears to have a negative and slightly biased view of Heroes, believing that they let themselves get used until their lives fall apart. This seems to originate from her son and his fervent desire to be a Hero, which often caused him to endanger himself when he was younger. Despite her harsh demeanor, Shoko does truly love Koichi and stepped in to stop him from putting himself in danger by chasing after a runaway bus possessed by the Monster Cat, only for Koichi to stand up to her and jump into action. In the end, Shoko acknowledges that she can't keep Koichi grounded and safe forever, and she entrusts Kazuho and Knuckleduster to look after him.

History#

Shoko lived in the countryside where she took to raising her son Koichi. When Koichi was a baby, his Quirk gave him the ability to fly from a very young age. Fearing for her son's safety, Shoko slapped him every time he used his Quirk to float, which eventually forced Koichi to suppress this ability to the point where he never knew he had it.

Synopsis#

Senpai Arc#

One day, Shoko arrives at Koichi's penthouse for a visit, in which she wants to meet Koichi's supposed girlfriend.

In fear of being scolded for lying, Koichi asks Makoto to pose as his girlfriend. However, when Shoko meets Makoto for the first time, she realizes at once that everything is a farce and scolds Koichi by hitting him with her Quirk. Despite this, her and Makoto quickly become friends, as Shoko decides to stay longer to go sightseeing in Tokyo with Koichi and Makoto. She also meets Kazuho and Knuckleduster, with the latter posing as Mister Kuroiwa and stating that he runs a voluntary neighborhood watch service that Koichi has kindly been helping.

When Makoto becomes interested in Kuroiwa's profession, wondering if he once worked as a Hero, Shoko huffs and tells the younger woman to stick to regular people, saying that Heroes let themselves get used until their lives fall apart. She soon recounts how Koichi was always landing in trouble by pretending to be All Might and that playing hero even costed him his high school entrance exam. A guilty Kazuho (who unbeknownst to everyone was the child Koichi saved that day) tries to speak on Koichi's behalf, but Shoko yells at her to speak up, causing the girl to run off.

Shoko spends the next morning with Makoto and her son touring Tokyo, where she soon scolds Koichi for continuing to buy All Might hoodies. However, when they get on the bus that will take them back, Kuin Hachisuka decides to cause another havoc by injecting Trigger to a cat with Quirk. The cat hops on to the bus and morphs into a cat bus with his Monster Cat Quirk, causing the vehicle to go out of control. Everyone in the bus is panicking until Ingenium comes to the rescue as he enters the bus. The driver informs him he cannot stop the bus, which will cause a major accident if it crashes.

Knuckleduster manages to swerve the cat bus in a different direction with a makeshift cat toy. The bus ends up on an express lane, heading to a destroyed overpass and giving a five minute time-limit to the heroes to stop it and save everyone. Team Idaten rescue almost all the passengers, but Kuin gives the cat an extra dose of Trigger as Shoko and Koichi are disembarking, causing it to move away with Makoto still on board.

Koichi, in his vigilante persona as The Crawler, and Ingenium work together to save Makoto before the bus falls through the edge. Koichi enters the bus and rescues Makoto, as it begins to free fall from the expressway. Ingenium uses his Ultimate Move, Rocket Charge, and tells Koichi to jump off the bus as he tries to catch him, but fails. Koichi makes up with his force of will, allowing him to jump in midair. Ingenium has a hold of Makoto as both Quirk users were able to land on the other side of the expressway, safe and sound. As this is happening, Shoko recalls how she'd swat Koichi down whenever he started flying as a baby, and realizes that she can no longer hold him back.

Back to Koichi's penthouse, Shoko states she has enough trust with the people she met and is heading home. Her son tells her to take her time, but she slaps him for saying something he doesn't mean, and entrusts Mr. Kuroiwa to smack him if he steps out of line. She also tells Makoto to join the family, in which she states she'll give thoughtful consideration.
