History#
Prior to joining the Meta Liberation Army, Geten was a part of the Himura family, a long-running and prestigious family that maintained their wealth and pride by creating branch families between distant relatives. The family faced their downfall upon the rise of Meta Abilities, as they did not want to dilute their bloodline through marrying ability users, especially heteromorphs. As a result of isolating themselves, the family inevitably began to shrink and wane, with the status they once held fading into history. The head of the family began selling off their children into marriages, causing the remaining Himura families to be scattered, with Geten being one of them.[1]
In his youth, Geten didn't attend school and instead focused his efforts on strengthening his power to control ice by himself and becoming a skilled user. Re-Destro helped Geten hone his Meta Ability and offered him his patronage, leading to Geten becoming a sworn and loyal member of the Meta Liberation Army. One time, when the Grand Commander accidentally burned himself, Geten's ability evolved and suddenly allowed him to control the temperature of ice.[2]
In anticipation of the coming conflict against the League of Villains, Re-Destro assigned Geten to deal with the League's most troublesome Meta Ability, Dabi's long-ranged flames. Re-Destro claims Geten is the keystone of the entire Army and entrusts him to protect their cause.[3]
Synopsis#
Meta Liberation Army Arc#
Just prior to Re-Destro declaring war on the League of Villains, Geten attends a meeting along with the top brass of the organization.[4] They manage to capture Giran and use him as bait to lead the League of Villains into Deika City.
Geten is tasked with dealing with the League's only wide-range fighter, Dabi. He conceals his presence and tries to crush Dabi with a pair of giant ice gauntlets. The wielder of blue flames is able to evade the attack and appears unimpressed by his opponent's ice.[5] The hooded warrior asks Dabi why he didn't release his flames at the start of the war, suggesting something is wrong with his Meta Ability. Dabi soon counters with a flame attack that melts Geten's ice.
The ice warrior propels himself into the air and collects all the ice in the area to form a giant floating mass of ice. He tells Dabi that he has spent his entire life honing his Quirk, and Dabi's flames cannot even melt them at all. The elements collide, splitting the battlefield.[6]
Dabi's flames prove extremely hot and melt away the giant mass of ice. However, Geten uses what's left to freeze the water around them to create more weapons. Dozens of Twice clones flood the area and the ice warrior counter attacks with a massive ice wave that erupts from the underground water lines, devastating numerous city blocks and singlehandedly eliminating the army Twice had created.
Geten claims that in a liberated future, social status will be determined by the strength of someone's Meta Ability. Dabi is annoyed by the statement and tells his opponent to just die already. The ice warrior claims it will be Dabi who dies on this day because he's figured out a weakness - Dabi's flames burn himself if he uses them for prolonged periods of time.[7]
Geten and Dabi's battle continues, and both of them become worn out from the fight. Suddenly, a giant monster invades Deika City, seemingly to aid the League of Villains. Skeptic warns Re-Destro of its appearance but this doesn't stop Geten's concern.[8] Worried for the supreme commander, Geten abandons his bout with Dabi and tries to overwhelm the monster with ice, only to be effortlessly slapped aside by the beast.[3]
Later, after Re-Destro and Tomura's fight is over, Geten is seen standing on stage with the other newly-appointed lieutenants of the League of Villains and Meta Liberation Army's united force, the Paranormal Liberation Front, as Re-Destro announces this new alliance to the rest of the old Army.[9]
Paranormal Liberation War Arc#
Once two months have passed, Geten is assigned as a commander for the "Vanguard Action Guerrilla Warfare Regiment: Violet" team along with Dabi.[10] Geten is stationed at the Gunga Mountain Villa and runs to defend the villa from the heroes' storm.[11]
The heroes quickly take the initiative, defeating many members of the Paranormal Liberation Front who try to stop them. Geten uses his powers to create a massive ice wall in an attempt to disrupt the Heroes' siege, blowing away Mt. Lady while she is in her giant form in the process, and declaring he won't let them interfere with Re-Destro anymore. Inadvertently, his attack allows Fumikage to rescue the Hawks from Dabi.
Geten reorganizes the defence forces of the villa, yelling to his allies that he has disrupted the heroes' siege and that they want them to rush into a fight, so they need to create an opening and focus on a single objective.[12] However, Mt. Lady immediately retaliates against the ice warrior's attack using a barrage of barrage of clubbing blows to smash her way through the large chunks of ice, using a club created by Cementoss with his Quirk.[13]
The situation changes when Tomura wakes up and orders Gigantomachia to meet him bringing the League. Geten comes back floating on a chunk of ice, attacking the heroes who try to stop Gigantomachia, while wondering what's going on and how the current situation is a total mess. While on the chunk of ice Geten is seen to have made a weapon with his ice before being attacked by a wave of cement that was caused by the Pro Hero, Cementoss.[14]
The battle between the heroes and the Paranormal Liberation Front continues until it ends with an ambiguous result: most of the Paranormal Liberation Front has been arrested, however Tomura Shigaraki had managed to escape along with a few allies, in addition to the enormous destruction generated and the countless dead between heroes and civilians.
Geten had been busy fighting Cementoss during that time and their fight ended in a draw, with Cementoss being skewered with icicles and Geten embedded in concrete. Cementoss had been sent to the hospital to be treated for his injuries and Geten was soon apprehended and arrested.[15]
Final War Arc#
Geten was eventually locked up in a holding facility, neighbor to Mr. Compress. They learn that despite many of their forces' capture, All For One had managed to escape Tartarus, breaking into several more maximum security prisons and liberated the inmates, which attributed to Japan entering a state of chaos. After about a month of preparation, the Heroes and Villains enter an all-out Final War to determine the fate of Japan.
Sometime during the events of the War, Geten speaks with Mr. Compress in order to pass the time by explaining to him about his family bloodline, the Himuras. He explains about their elitist, prejudiced ways and their intentions to keep the bloodline pure, causing Compress to remark about what Spinner would say hearing about them.
Geten continued to explain how there were branch families established, and this resulted in many marriages between these distant relatives, however this resulted in the clan dwindling overtime. By the time the head of the family started selling off the children into marriages, it led to the remaining families scattering with Geten being one of them until Re-Destro recruited him. He states how Meta Abilities grow more complex with each generation, with new powers lying dormant in the user's body, while people's hearts never managed to evolve, wondering what changes they will witness. He concludes asking Compress if he heard anything from the Police or Heroes, since there's nothing left to do but kill time until the War is over.[1]
