Major is the eighth episode of the My Hero Academia: Vigilantes anime.
Summary#
In the middle of the day, a motorcyclist thief is speeding down the road with The Crawler hot on his trail. Leaping close behind the Vigilante is Pop☆Step, who's advising her teammate to forgo the chase and leave it to the police for his personal safety. The college student discards her concerns as he doesn't want the criminal to get away, and he plans to monitor the thief until proper law enforcement shows up to apprehend him.
His heroic grit is immediately tested by the thief kicking away his pursuer with an extended leg, causing the young man to slide out of control and into the path of an oncoming truck.
Just as he's about to get hit, a blonde, chiseled Hero flies in to scoop The Crawler up, and carelessly tosses him on the sidewalk before disabling the rampant motorcyclist with a single uppercut. As Pop lands on the ground to check on her friend, the Hero floats above the two Vigilantes with the perpetrator and vehicle in his arms, vainly laughing aloud and telling The Crawler to leave this type of work to the Pro Heroes.
The young man thanks the Hero for the help and asks what his name is. The crimefighter is appalled that the Vigilante doesn't recognize him and chucks the criminal and the vehicle on the sidewalk in shock. The man introduces himself as Captain Celebrity, a top-ranked Hero from the United States, and non-consensually autographs the student's All Might hoodie so he won't forget his codename from now on.
The Crawler isn't too thrilled that the Hero defiled his clothing item like that, but Captain Celebrity asserts that his signature is worth way more than All Might's merchandise. The Vigilante says it should be on him to discern how much his belongings are worth and if he wants them autographed or not, which prompts the Hero to laugh at the "joke" and calls All Might a boring snoozefest compared to him. Captain Celebrity then carries the Villain and the motorcycle before blasting off into the sky, leaving Pop confused and The Crawler irritated.
Later on, the Naruhata Vigilantes are resting at the Penthouse before catching a news report on Captain Celebrity, which highlights his work and recent announcement that he's decided to shift his operations as a Hero from the United States to Japan. Knuckleduster thinks the report is too sugarcoated and tells Pop about his other nickname: Captain Catastrophe.
He informs his teammates that the unsavory title came from the mountain of scandals and lawsuits he's racked up and presumes that the Hero moved countries to continue working and evade all his legal issues back home. Koichi, who's angrily removing the signature from of his hoodie, tells the two that his bad first impression of him is justified and that he hates guys like him.
In the city, a giant Kaiju-like Villain is tearing up the city under the influence of Trigger, courtesy of another field experiment by Kuin. While she's impressed by the flashy display and wishes him good luck, the part-time Villain says this guy will be immediately recognized and handled by the Heroes due to his Quirk, making her test subject useless for gathering data.
Up on a building, Pop is warning the fleeing civilians of the Instant Villain's path as The Crawler is ushering everyone to safety. He then spots a little girl running in direction of the criminal while her mother is holding her back, as her child screams that "Masahiko" was left behind at home. Captain Celebrity then floats down and greets the student once more before asking him for a rundown on the situation. The Crawler informs him about the problem with the girl, saying that they both have to save the stranded civilian.
Captain Celebrity tells him to hold off on the rescue, as the press and his support staff aren't ready, and the police hasn't issued a proper request for Heroes to deal with the Villain so "technically" he can't do his job yet. The Crawler brushes off the pompous Hero's whining and slides off to save Masahiko.
Just as he leaves, Captain Celebrity receives correspondence from his staff that they're ready. They tell the Hero that the reporters are lined up, they and other local Heroes have received the police order and have identified the civilians that need rescuing. The man flies up in preparation to take on the Instant Villain but says he's missing one last thing: a countdown.
With a quick countdown, accompanied by a personal commentator and a music track playing through his earpiece, Captain Celebrity flashily dukes it out with the rampaging criminal while swiftly saving everyone in need. Meanwhile, The Crawler is shouting for Masahiko while dodging the rubble from the ongoing fight, before screeching to a halt upon hearing a dog barking. He then looks up and sees the animal leashed next to a doghouse with the "civilian's" name printed at the top, revealing that Masahiko is the little girl's puppy.
The Vigilante wastes no time unleashing the dog and coddling it in his arms, narrowly sliding away from the destruction as he carries the pet to safety. The two are about get crushed by the Villain's tail before Captain Celebrity swoops him and carries them to a nearby park, where all the cameras and reporters are waiting while the Hero's staff showers their boss with praise. After once again signing The Crawler's hoodie without asking, the Hero floats in the air and poses for the plethora of eyes and cameras on him.
As evening comes along and Captain Celebrity's staff tends to the victims of the Villain attack, Pop notes how the Hero ended up saving 100 people during that incident. The Crawler is annoyed that he wasn't able to save Masahiko, though Pop is just glad that everyone is safe even if her teammate's self-criticism is only technically true. The young man soon finds a personal bright spot in the event, as the little girl from before rushes over to greet Masahiko before thanking "The Cruller" for saving her dog.
Eavesdropping, Captain Celebrity says he doesn't usually deal with pets and "gives" The Crawler the privilege of taking credit for the dog's rescue. He then asks the young man to get out of his space while wearing his Vigilante costume, as he feels the outfit will ruin his image and get in the way of his branding. The Hero once again flies off as a crowd of young women cheer for him, with the Vigilante reassuring that he still hates him.
On another night, a destroyed building has been evacuated, as it is showing signs of a sudden collapse. The Crawler secretly slides up and into a broken window to check for any straggling civilians and spots a young woman and a large man. As he laments that he can't find a way to carry them both to safer ground, Captain Celebrity once again floats down, this time asking to collaborate on saving the two.
The Hero's idea of shared work involves The Crawler trudging to the open street with the large man on his back while Captain Celebrity princess carries and flirts with the young woman, with the Vigilante complaining that he should've taken the bigger person since he's stronger. The showboating man says it would be bad optics to do that since he looks better with a lady in his arms.
Suddenly, rubble from the building begins to crumble and fall on Koichi, but Captain Celebrity stops it with ease. After catching a chunk of debris, Captain Celebrity flaunts himself for more photos while The Crawler lets down the grateful man, complaining that the Hero is hogging all the credit.
As Pop jumps down to greet her teammate, Captain Celebrity declares that this unstable building needs to be demolished but says that he wants to make the event fun while he takes care of it. He then brings out spotlights and a singing cheerleading squad as he flies around the tower and breaks it down from top to bottom, leaving the civilians and the press in awe.
Pop wonders if it's typical for Heroes in the States to prop themselves up like this but doesn't think it's too farfetched since Japanese Heroes can be good entertainers too. She then starts getting inspired to incorporate elements of this display into her idol work, while The Crawler believes the performance is inappropriate and begrudgingly admits he's envious of it.
The young man then notices that Makoto is one of the cheerleaders and starts getting upset with the idea of Captain Celebrity getting so close to his upperclassman. Pop, once again upset with her friend being drawn to the woman, agrees with him and calls the girls outfits' out for being scandalous. She then funnels her negative attention to their miniskirts and grows embarrassed when Koichi subtly points out that she wears one on her costume.
Makoto notices the two Vigilantes and is about to run over to try and snag an interview with them but is halted by Captain Celebrity beginning to put the moves on her by calling the woman a "fiery leader" and saying "intimate friends" call him by his real name: Christopher Skyline. The playboy then puts his hand on her shoulder and suggests they get to know each other, which Makoto agrees with as she starts making reservations for a lunch meeting.
By an alley, The Crawler is leering at the Hero for getting so handsy with the woman, as Pop looks at her friend exasperatedly. From the shadows, Knuckleduster walks up to them and brings up that Captain Celebrity's "playboy" side has risen again and seemingly hasn't learned his lesson since moving here.
The older man says that nearly every lawsuit filed against him was brought on by beautiful young women who he was secretly involved with, with the biggest one being filed by his estranged wife that nearly ended his career prior to making the trek to Japan. As the three Vigilantes watch the display, the oldest one wonders if he'll ever learn to curb his sleezy behavior.
The next day, Makoto is waiting outside her school to meetup with Christopher, as Koichi and Pop are secretly trailing her. The young man says he's doing this to prevent the Hero from getting his paws on his upperclassman, and Pop suggests that doing nothing is the best solution. Christopher then spots the two stalking "his" lady, and Makoto calls Koichi over upon seeing him.
The two walk up to the woman, with Koichi playing off his and Pop's sneaking around as him randomly running into them on a walk. After announcing to the pair that he and Makoto are going on date, which she clarifies as a business luncheon, Christopher hoists the young woman in her arms and soars off, leaving Koichi frustrated.
As Makoto and Christopher are relaxing in a restaurant at the top floor of a building, the former gets a news alert about a bank robbery being orchestrated by a dolphin-faced gunman. The man says that doesn't matter, since the only thing he's interested in is getting to know the woman better. Makoto then gets a phone call as the man further flirts with her and suggest they move to a more "secluded spot", and Christopher freezes upon hearing his "date" talk to his wife Pamela.
Christopher asks how Makoto got his spouse's phone number, and the woman explains they connected online last week, and states that she's inquiring through her if her husband is messing around with girls since it could function as evidence against him in their lawsuit and asks about the "secluded spot" he brought up with Makoto.
Christopher frantically leaves the premises to deal with the robbery Makoto mentioned. At the bank, Pop and Koichi are corralled with the civilians by the police, with the latter complaining that he doesn't have his Vigilante costume on him so he can assist in the situation. As Pop asks her friend how that would help since the place is already surrounded, Captain Celebrity swoops inside and swiftly knocks out the robber. He then nervously flies away and doesn't stay for the cameras and female attention but stops as he notices Koichi and begs the college student to come with him.
Christopher then flies Koichi back to the restaurant he and Makoto were dining at, while taking several awkward photos with Koichi and the three of them to send to his wife and pass off as photo ops with a fan. Koichi complains about how hostage-like the photos seem and points out that sticking around his male audience isn't Christopher's style. After mulling that over that and the man's reasoning for coming to Japan, Makoto excitedly tells her boss that now is the perfect time to rebrand his image.
Later on, a television report covers Captain Celebrity's supposed rebranding, as it features the man awkwardly floating in front of a flashy flag and a horde of chanting delinquent male middle schoolers, with his cheerleaders dressed similarly. Pop asks if anyone is really buying this, and Knuckleduster replies that foreign Heroes tends to act weird when they enter Japan.
A few days later, Koichi and Pop are doing schoolwork in the Penthouse, before the young man gets a call from his father. He tells his son that his mother is coming to stay with him since she has a class reunion in Tokyo, and that she's already on a train headed to the city. Koichi then rushes around his home and tries to hurriedly clean the place and tells Pop that his mom is an unbelievably strict monster that will find any way to make her son drop out of school and move back to the countryside.
Koichi then says that his mother also hates lying, and he needs to stick to what he's been telling her on the phone when he speaks to her in person: that school is going well, his bosses value him at work, and that he has a girlfriend, which causes his teammate to blush furiously. In an intense fluster, she asks Koichi why he lied to his mother about being in a relationship, with Koichi explaining that he got caught up in the moment and made it up.
Pop then gathers her things before sprinting out of the Penthouse in embarrassment, and Leaps off the railing just as Koichi's mother, Shoko, makes it up the staircase and enters the home. Militantly, the young man greets his mother and prepares some tea from her, as she scouts out the Penthouse for anything damning. The woman declares that her son is leading a proper life like he assured her over the phone but then asks her son about this alleged girlfriend she's been hearing about, which makes Koichi panic since she brought up his fib earlier than he expected.
