Aquarium is the forty-fifth chapter of My Hero Academia: Team-Up Missions, written and illustrated by Yoco Akiyama.
Summary#
As Class 1-A arrives at Takoba Aquarium, invited by Mirio Togata because Eri wanted to visit one, they enter expecting to see sea animals. However, they are surprised to find no sea animals at all; many guests leave angrily. Izuku Midoriya asks a staff member what happened, and they explain that all the animals have fled the aquarium since the tanks are connected directly to the sea the staff members assume the animals left on their own accord.
Koji Koda offers to help by using his Anivoice Quirk. Mirio suggests that if they are going to investigate out at sea, they'll need mobility and search Quirks. Shoto Todoroki says he can use his Quirk to freeze water and create platforms, and Kyoka Jiro offers her help as well. The three then set out to search for the missing animals.
Meanwhile, Eri asks Mirio if a mission is happening and whether the Police will be involved. He reassures her there's nothing to worry about and encourages her to look at some fish. Minoru Mineta asks what the plan is, considering the animals are gone. The remaining members of Class 1-A decide to disguise themselves as sea animals. Meanwhile, Shoto points out that all the immobile animals are still in the aquarium. Kyoka suggests that maybe they can ask those animals where the others went. Koji tries to use his Quirk, but it doesn't work since he can't connect to the animals. Kyoka speculates that maybe his Quirk is being neutralized, similar to Eraser Head's Quirk, but that's proven wrong as Shoto can use his Quirk with no problem. Shoto notes that the inability to use Koji's Quirk gives them valuable information.
Kyoka senses a school of fish and tells Shoto to use his Quirk. As they run on the ice platform, Koji finds an injured fish. Shoto asks if Koji can treat it, and Koji says, of course, since he would never leave it behind. He explains that his Quirk relies on mutual trust between him and the animals. Shoto asks if Koji can ask the fish what's going on, but Koji replies that the fish is too weak and he is struggling to connect with it.
Suddenly, the water starts acting up, and several sea animals, along with a mysterious squid-like man, emerge. The man, calling himself the Master of the Waves, uses his Quirk to get the injured fish to return to him and declares that, since land-based society refuses to do his bidding, he will dominate all sea life and become the ruler of the waves. He then attacks the trio of students. Meanwhile, all of the Class 1-A students have kept on pretending to be sea animals, and in Mirio's thoughts, they can't fake being the sea animals any longer.
Koji tries to use his Quirk, but it has no effect because of the Master of the Waves. Koji is knocked into the water while Kyoka and Shoto are attacked by sea animals; at the same time, Eri notices the dolphin area and walks over to it. Mirio, Eijiro Kirishima, Izuku, and Minoru chase after her because she can't find out that the animals aren't back. Meanwhile, swarmed, Koji considers hurting the animals to save himself, but cannot bring himself to do it. Instead, he uses his Quirk to get a massive whale that everyone notices to slam down on the Master of the Waves, breaking his control over the animals and defeating him. Kyoka says that even though the whale was under the effects of the Master of the Waves' Quirk, it used its instincts to guide its actions. Kyoka then tells Koji what a caring heart he has. Later, when everyone has returned from the aquarium, Mirio checks on Eri, who is asleep, and notices a drawing of the whale from the aquarium in her thoughts. She says she wants to go again with Mirio, thinking that Eri was humoring them all along.
