Yuga Aoyama/Relationships

Family#

Unnamed parents#

Yuga appears to have an excellent relationship with his parents. When he was younger, they wanted to ensure that he would not be shunned for being Quirkless. To that end they managed to contact All For One and made a deal with him to give their son a Quirk.

As it turns out, the Quirk that Yuga received was a poor fit for his body, causing his Navel Laser to leak out involuntarily. His parents would then order and gift Yuga with a support belt built specially for him, allowing him to use his Quirk to a better capacity. With their son now having a Quirk and being able to pursue his dream of becoming a Hero, the Aoyama family lived happily until All For One came to collect on his debt.

After this, All For One would have Yuga become his mole within U.A. High School, threatening him and his parents with death should they disobey or lie to him. Upon Izuku returning to U.A., and All For One ordering Yuga to lure him somewhere alone, his parents begged their son to follow the villain's orders in fear for all their lives. Despite this, his parents have expressed great remorse for putting him in jeopardy and at one point begged for their son's forgiveness when they saw how taxing it was on him. In return, Yuga tearfully voiced how he only wanted to keep them safe from All For One.[1]

After their deception was discovered by Izuku and Toru, his parents immediately sought to protect him from the repercussions. They also took full responsibility to his class and the authorities by stating that their son was innocent in all of this.

U.A. High School#

Class 1-A#

While Yuga's classmates don't have an overall negative view of him, several are often put off or even disgusted by his arrogant attitude at times. Regardless, he gets along well with them. At times there are moments when he is encouraged to take action to protect them such as when he intervened to save Fumikage Tokoyami and Katsuki Bakugo from the League of Villains or when he helped in the Provisional Hero License Exam.

They were all greatly shocked and hurt to discover that he was the traitor, refusing to leave his interrogation while wanting answers. Both Eijiro and Denki wanted him to say it was a lie while Mashirao Ojiro and Toru Hagakure questioned Yuga on his audacity to attend classes with and live under the same roof as them. Overcome with guilt, Yuga revealed how he enjoyed the fun times he had with them and how it wounded him to plot against them.[2] Furthermore, he expressed towards his parents that he thought he was finally free when All For One was defeated by All Might and believed that he could become true friends with his classmates, showing how he truly came to care for them.

Yuga becomes further emotional upon seeing that his classmates wish to forgive him. He also reveals that the more faith they have in him, the less belief he has in himself and that he immensely fears making the same mistake all over again. However, through encouragement from their homeroom teacher Shota, Yuga finds the will to confront his greatest fear and later helps Izuku in a sting operation to draw out All For One. Near the end of the Final War, Yuga stands by his classmates during the final battle against All For One, aiding Izuku along with everyone else in finishing the Demon Lord off once and for all.

In the war's aftermath, Yuga shows up at his class one last time as he announces that he is leaving U.A., feeling unworthy of graduating from there due to being ordered to attend the school by All For One and wishing to start his hero education over. His classmates are saddened upon hearing this, with Kyoka saying they could have never split the villains up without him, showing that they have forgiven him. Even so, they respect Yuga's decision in the end and even throw him a farewell party in Heights Alliance, with Eri being the lead singer.

Eight years later, Yuga has achieved his goal, becoming a Pro Hero as he joins his former classmates, including Hitoshi Shinso and Izuku, when they all leap into action.

Mina Ashido#

Yuga seems to interact with her more than with his other classmates. She often teases him about his stomach aches as a result of his Quirk. During the Battle Trial, the two were teamed up together and Mina accidentally dripped her acid on Yuga's cape, burning it, which he dreadfully recalls despite her apologizing. Mina also managed to defeat him with ease during the U.A. Sports Festival. However, she did look apologetic when she saw him dazed from her punching and knocking him out.

A running gag is her interrupting him when he is arrogantly speaking about himself, often making him mad.

She was deeply shocked to discover he and his family were spies for All For One. She was seen crying while he was interrogated for his betrayal.[2]

Ochaco Uraraka#

They are classmates and their first meeting was in the Quirk Apprehension Test. When Izuku has his Quirk restrained by their teacher, Yuga gives Ochaco comforting words by stating he'll be by her side if Izuku is expelled as she is confused and can't recall his name.[3][4]

They are later paired up against Thirteen and their teamwork is a bit rocky. When they were in a bind, Yuga had correctly guessed that Ochaco was thinking of Izuku in their match. He inquired if she had feelings for him, which resulting in her blushing and letting go of the rail she was clinging to. However, this also awakened her combat instincts and allowed her to take down the hero.[5]

Yuga's words caused Ochaco to ponder over her feelings for Izuku and they were shown to stick with her before she realized that he was right about what she felt about Izuku.

She was deeply shocked to discover he and his family were spies for All For One. She was visibly sad and upset upon seeing him being interrogated for his betrayal.[2]

Izuku Midoriya#

The two first met at the entrance exams where Yuga saved Izuku from being attacked by a robot, though he did this for points as he remarked that the latter made good bait and he would most likely not see him again.[6] Izuku later excelled in the exams and became classmates with Yuga. It was shown his opinion hadn't changed, as he remarked on Izuku's lack of skill to Ochaco. However, Izuku surprised him with his powerful Quirk which allowed him to remain in the school.[7][8]

After this, the two had no further interaction that was notable until the Remedial Course Arc. Yuga would act strangely around Izuku who would note that he could never get a good read off the latter.[9]

Izuku is later scared when Yuga spies on him as he slept and left a message (in cheese) to say he knows Izuku's secret, which left Izuku wondering if Yuga is aware of One For All. In training, Izuku is called out to by Yuga and is shown one of his new moves though it causes him severe stomach problems. Seeing him in this state, Izuku took Yuga away to recuperate before he asks him what he meant in his message.

Yuga explained that he is aware of Izuku not being accustomed to his Quirk and reveals that he went through a similar experience and compared his powers leaking out in his childhood out to Izuku's initial lack of control of his own Quirk before they both overcame it. He then tells Izuku that he is not alone in hardships, as it is better to face them together or they won't excel. His words relieve and cause Izuku to smile and thank him for his support. After a few days, Izuku and Yuga became good friends with some of the class noting their frequent interaction.[10]

After the Paranormal Liberation War, he was stunned to discover from Toru Hagakure that Yuga was the traitor who had been aiding All For One. When confronting him, Yuga admitted with great remorse that this was true.[11]

Yuga told Izuku when he discovered he was Quirkless too, that he fell into despair because Izuku used his gifts for heroism while Yuga betrayed his dreams. Izuku reluctantly detained Yuga and his parents after a failed attack and escape. Unlike the rest of the class, Izuku understood that Yuga did what he did to protect his family. He also saw that in spite of being stationed as a spy that he went against his orders by trying to save Katsuki and Fumikage during the Summer Training Camp attack, and bringing up how he did not have any ill intentions towards them. He then demanded that Yuga take his hand, saying that he could still be a hero despite what had happened.[2] Yuga is tearfully moved and taken aback by Izuku's empathy towards him, despite his betrayal.

Yuga would live up to the faith Izuku had in him by aiding him in luring All For One and the rest of the Paranormal Liberation Front out under the pretense of having betrayed him once again by luring him out for All For One to confront.[12]

Tenya Ida#

The two of them have had very little interactions in general. However, during the Provisional Hero License Exam, they came across one another. Yuga was inspired by Tenya's words and his desire to fulfill his ultimate dream, so-much-so that he willingly shot a beacon to draw other contestants near to serve as a distraction while Tenya sneaks up on the other contestants. Yuga openly expresses the impact Tenya's words had on him and also opens up on his desire to be an equal to his classmates, demonstrating the respect Yuga gained for Tenya and how he was willing to open himself up to his classmate.

Tenya was deeply shocked to discover he and his family were spies for All For One. He had a saddened look on his face while Yuga was interrogated for his betrayal.[2] However, he declares that Yuga's actions are all in the past, and as his friend, he must reach his hand out to him if they are to stand as equals, showing that he doesn't hold any grudge towards Yuga.[13]

Toru Hagakure#

While the two have had little interaction, Toru and Yuga appear to get along as friends and fellow classmates. Along with Mina, the two did their work-studies together with Yoroi Musha, and following their return Toru showcases her new light manipulation ability that allows her to redirect Yuga's Navel Laser.

Following the Paranormal Liberation War and Deku's return to U.A., Toru had noticed that Yuga had not smiled even once and left to check on him. After overhearing Yuga with his parents, she is shocked and horrified upon learning that Yuga was the mole within U.A. who had been leaking information to All For One. Upon Izuku's arrival at the scene she hears Yuga admit everything.[11] When the Aoyoma family tries to flee, Yuga fires his Navel Laser in defense, Toru reflects the laser beam away with her body, yelling that so many people have had their lives endangered, and that Yuga had the nerve to sit in the same class and live in the same dorm as them. The light from Yuga's laser also reveals a part of Toru's face, and she is shown angrily crying because of her friend's betrayal. She was still crying during Yuga's interrogation.[2]

Despite this, after learning the full story and hearing Izuku's pleas towards Yuga, Toru gains the desire to forgive him and help redeem himself alongside the rest of her class. She was later happy and relieved to hear that Yuga would be playing a part in their grand plan against the villains.[14]

During the Final War, she came to his aid while he fought Tartarus escapee Kunieda. She shows she forgave him by calling him a hero, as she uses his quirk's attack, to defeat Kunieda.[15]

As a result of her attack, Toru was rendered partially visible and Yuga noticed and looked away after she was embarrassed. Yuga also apologized that he was indirectly the cause of this situation. She soon praised his ability for evolving, but he simply responds they need to burn away the plants to save the Heroes, since they would continue to grow even after their user was defeated. Toru also worried of his internal damage from his plan of adjusting the strength of his light but he says today is his last day as a U.A. student, so he will do whatever it takes.[16] Yuga later gives Toru his tattered jacket to cover her nudity as they continue to clean up all of Kuneida's plants and freeing the Heroes.[17]

Years later, Yuga now works as a Sidekick for Toru Hagakure.[18][19]

Katsuki Bakugo#

While they aren't seen interacting, Yuga requested that Katsuki allow him to be on his team during the U.A. Sports Festival but Katsuki didn't seem to think much of Yuga and didn't remember his name or Quirk.

Like the rest of his classmates, Katsuki was deeply shocked upon learning of Yuga's betrayal and remarked on how it was a small world with him being Quirkless and receiving a Quirk from All For One, comparing him to Izuku in that regard.[2] Nevertheless, Katsuki still expressed anger at Yuga, due to him being the reason he was kidnapped and went on to say that he'd like to give him a few Howitzer Impacts before they would be considered even, only for Hanta and Eijiro to defend their classmate for having suffered in silence.[13]

Shoto Todoroki#

While they aren't seen interacting, Shoto initially didn't seem to think much of Yuga and the latter had nothing ill to think of him.

During the Training Arc, Shoto attempted to use Yuga's attack on Mr. Compress to save Katsuki but failed.

Like the rest of his classmates, Shoto was deeply shocked upon learning of Yuga's betrayal and told the principal that he and the class were not leaving until they got answers.[2] Nevertheless, Shoto stood with the class in thinking Yuga could redeem himself by helping them face All For One.[13]

Faculty#

All Might#

There has not been much interaction between them but Yuga respects All Might for his heroism.

Yuga watched intently as his teacher participated in the Kamino Incident and was happy that he succeeded over All For One.

When his parents were discussing his status as the traitor, Yuga revealed his false hope to be free after seeing the former No. 1 hero defeat the villain.[11]

After Izuku and Toru expose Yuga, All Might reflected on his Yuga's troubles and was sad that it led to this.[2]

Shota Aizawa#

While they do not have much interaction Shota cares for him as his homeroom teacher, just as he does with the rest of his students.

When Yuga's status as a traitor was revealed, Shota apologized to Nezu for not realizing the situation earlier. After seeing the other students continue to show Yuga their willingness to forgive him, Shota told Yuga he has no intention of expelling him, a statement that stunned Yuga with the compassion from both his peers and teacher.[13]

Shota later meets Yuga at Central Hospital in an interrogation room. He consoles his student, saying that he's lucky to have friends that stood up for him like they did. Shota asks Yuga if he's afraid, to which Yuga confirms that he is, saying that he'll never stand on equal terms with his class and is worried about making the same mistake all over again if All For One appears. Yuga also admits to his teacher that he wants nothing more than to be left alone to die like the criminal he is. Shota does not gloss over Yuga's treachery, saying that he can't guarantee he will be able to return to U.A. once the war is over. Regardless, Shota still has no intention of expelling Yuga, telling him that he has to fight because it's all he can do now and remains compassionate by saying that he's still his teacher and that everyone will be there to help and protect him.

Ultimately, Shota helps Yuga fight against the fear All For One instilled within him, and Yuga returns with a frightened yet determined expression. Thanks to this, he's later able to overcome his fear and stand against All For One.[20]

League of Villains#

All For One#

After being contacted by his parents, All For One was responsible for giving Yuga his Quirk. Despite Navel Laser being a poor fit for Yuga's body, and thus being forced to rely on a support belt courtesy of his parents, he was happy with what he had received. However, All For One would return to collect on this debt and in turn, forced Yuga to become his mole within U.A. High School under the threat of death to him and his parents.

Yuga heavily resents All For One for exploiting him and his parents. He confided in his parents that he believed he was free upon witnessing All Might defeat him. However, these hopes were dashed after he broke out of Tartarus.[11]

Yuga and his parents seemingly make another exchange with All For One, whereas Yuga delivers Izuku to him in exchange for him and his parents to be spared and given a high status in his new world. During this, All For One and Yuga seemingly have the amicable bond of an uncle and nephew, despite Yuga's visible fear and guilt. All For One commends Yuga on his speech explaining the villain's ultimate goal, saying how hard it must have been to betray his friends yet again. Yuga apologizes to Izuku, saying that he can't feel anguish anymore, right before turning around and attacking All For One with his Navel Laser, revealing this second "betrayal" to have been a ploy to lure the villain leader out.

After turning on All For One, Yuga admits how terrified he was of standing against him and that he even wet himself, but also says that him and his parents know the villain's true weakness: that he fears people realising that they can still unite together and defeat him. As the heroes are all summoned to the battlefield through Neito Monoma utilizing Kurogiri's Warp Gate, Yuga finally overcomes his fear and tells All For One that today is the day his reign of terror comes to an end.[12]
