Production#
History#
As had been done previously, this season was first confirmed to be in the works at the end of the final episode of season three.[4] It was then officially announced in the 44th issue of the 2018 Weekly Shonen Jump magazine several days later.
Kenji Nagasaki, who had directed the previous three seasons, as well as the first movie, became the "chief director" started with this season, overseeing the production of the entire anime, while continuing directing work on the following movies. Masahiro Mukai took over as the season director in his stead.
On May 26, 2019, the Japanese music label Legendoor announced that Yuki Hayashi had returned to compose the soundtrack for this season.[5] Hayashi would later confirm this himself on social media just one week later.[6]
On June 6, 2019, Funimation announced that it had acquired the season for streaming in North America, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand through its FunimationNow service.[7]
On June 16, 2019, it was announced that the season would premiere on October 12, 2019, marking the first time the anime would begin airing in the Fall anime season, as opposed to Spring.

Trivia#
- This is the first time in which the show did not begin airing in Japan during the spring anime season. While this season retained its timeslot on YTV and NTV, the baseball manga Mix aired in its stead during that time.[9]
- This also marks the first time in which this season aired during the fall.
- This season is tied with Season 7 for the most promotional teasers out of all seasons, with a total of 9 (10 if counting alternative versions).
