History#
Monika Kaniyashiki is a member of the Osaka police force that at one point joined a police operation led by detective Naomasa Tsukauchi, which aimed to dismantle the adulterated Trigger smuggling ring and arrest the members of the criminal organization responsible for introducing the drug into Japan, known as the Villain Factory.[1]
The investigation revealed that the drug reached the streets via the so-called Crab Route, as the Villain Factory infiltrated the food distribution network of Kanidoge, a company specializing in crab food, to smuggle their drug among legitimate products, and arranging for them to be delivered to individual costumers.[2]
In order to catch them in their act of their smuggling process, Monika managed to get hired by the company to work in traveling sales, and she was very good at her job that managed to get people to vacuum up Kanidoge's product. The only reason for complaint from her employers was that sometimes she took off in the middle of her work.[3]
An opportunity to dismantle the Crab Route and obtain important evidence arose when it was discovered that the Villain Factory would take advantage of the Mascot Idol Carnival organized at the Esha SS Mall to conduct a drug deal at the venue, taking advantage that security would be more lax in such event. Monika was registered for the event to perform as Kanidoge idol. Meanwhile, a police force led by Naomasa would be monitoring the venue via security cameras, and given the possibility of needing a hero, they enlisted the services of Fat Gum.[4]

Osaka Incident Arc#
While waiting in the green room for the Mascot Idol Carnival inside the mall, Monika meets Koichi Haimawari and Kazuho, recognizing the latter as Marukane Department Store's idol Pop☆Step despite not wearing her costume. She greets them and then playfully uses her hands to mimic and sound out the clipping of a crab's claws, before contorting her face to resemble the shell of a Heike crab and lowering her voice, which shocked them.
Monika properly introduces herself, explaining that she just showed the two her tagline and is representing Kanidoge at the event as an idol. Koichi and Pop act on the sheepish side to her proper introduction, which only disappoints Monika, blaming it on city folk from Tokyo lacking a sense of humor. She quickly tries another bit by imitating an angry crab, though once again, the audience reception is lukewarm.
Moving on, Monika believes it's only a matter of time till the local idol craze hits, and when that happens, her routine will take the country by storm. Monika wishes Pop the best of luck and goes off to talk to another idols.[4]
Later, Monika meets Koichi and Pop again in the exhibitors of the venue after the latter sings in the idol show. They are both surprised to see her piloting a crab-shaped Mech, and her manager explains that they are industrial elevators being converted into a walking advertisement. Monika insists it's her mascot costume, which leaves both Koichi and Kazuho confused.
A person arrives and tells Monika to head for the stage in preparation for her act. She starts to rush there using her mech, followed by her manager, who yells at her not to run with the machine. Suddenly, she stops and complains of that her stomach is bothering her, joking that maybe it was the company-provided food she ate earlier ain’t sitting right. Her handler begs her not to make jokes like that.In any case, Monika tells him that she'll quickly run to the restroom before her show starts.
It was really just an excuse to go to the restroom where she had hidden her police equipment. While putting it on, she talks to Fat Gum in a friendly way with the ear piece, asking if she will still be able to participate in the Idol Show once they wrap the investigation up as she thinks she's more cut out to be a idol than a cop, with the Hero doubting she's qualified for either. She takes his words as him saying the world isn't ready for a "funny, beautiful, undercover idol", though the man says the only thing accurate about that is her being undercover.
Naomasa then informs her that Kanidoge's already started unloading its farm-to-table products at the mall's service entrance. As soon as she can confirm that there are drugs disguised in food packaging, they'll raid the place, but until then, she’s on her own out there, so he asks her to not take any unnecessary risks. Monika confidently loads her gun and heads towards the shipping site.[1]
Once she makes it to the SS Mall loading dock, Monika reports what she sees to her allies: two Kanidoge trucks full of goods and three workers unloading the food packaging in, with two of them mounted on Kanidoge's Mechs. After confirming the information, Naomasa tells the officer to proceed as planned, as Monika checks her gun and heads towards the two workers using the mechs.
Slipping back into her regular demeanor, Monika merrily greets the staff and them to let her check the merchandise, using as an excuse that the books just weren’t adding up, over in the market. A little surprised by such out of the blue decision, the men ask if they can still continue with their work. Monika assures them they can proceed and simply asks that they let her use the tablet they use for work; she will take care of checking the merchandise herself.
After successfully infiltrating her potential crime scene, Monika sees that there is a batch of products that does not correspond to the company's catalog. While Kanidoge sells a variety of crab-based products, they're all packed in the exact same type of box and are done so tightly due to being refrigerated, so the woman can't guess on her own if any of the boxes contains drugs. She then starts going over the boxes' barcodes with a scanner, before landing on one that makes the device beep several times instead of once.
Monika then checks the tablet, which shows that the package is a "super assortment D". She then sets the box on the ground, noting that the vendor's super assortment boxes are only sold in varieties A - C, meaning this one is a special order for a "V.I.P.".
Thinking that this is where the Trigger is hidden, opens the box but is disappointed to find that it only contains a variety of crabs and several icepacks. She checks the crabs but sees that they are just regular crabs, and there is no false bottom to hide the drug. Then he notices that there are more cooling packets than usual and that some are black and bigger than the others. She takes one of each cooling pack and compares the two before instantly realizing that the drug is hidden in fake icepacks.
Monika is then interrupted by an unmounted worker, asking about the tracking issue, and complaining that the package she tampered with can't be sold now. However, Monika points her gun at him, asking who he is. The man nervously saying he's just a part-timer at the shipping department, but Monika calls out his lie as she knows each and every one of part-timers who work there.
Still pointing her gun at him, Monika immediately informs Naomasa of her findings: a possible suspect, and that the drugs are hidden in fake cooling packs. With a witness at gunpoint, plenty of evidence, and a tablet that contains important information about the smuggling operations, Monika openly declares this case closed.
Having exposed his disguise, the villain Number 6 drops the act and commends Monika for her slick deductive skills, while a large scar appears on his face. The officer orders him not to move or she'll shoot him, but Number 6 uses his Overclock Quirk to snatch her gun and the tablet in a blink of an eye. Shocked by this, Kaniko quickly takes cover and alerts her team of the situation.
Fat Gum and the Police Force burst the loading dock, with Naomasa ordering everyone to stop what they’re doing and get their hands in the hair. The workers obey, but the Number 6 does not. Instead, he drops the gun and uses his Quirk on his right arm to speedily enter a code into the tablet. which causes the Crab Mechs to start moving on their own and rampages the place, attacking Fat Gum.[2]
Fat Gum successfully pushes the mechs back and gets ready to retaliate, but Monika warns him not to do it, because the workers mounted on them are innocent people. Fat Gum then decides to use his strength and his Fat Absorption Quirk to restrain the mechs, allowing Monika to use her Snip Clip Quirk to cut the straps and free the hostages. Once the workers are safe, Fat Gum easily gets rid of the mechs. The hero asks Monika if she won't get in trouble for using her Quirk despite being a police officer, and she replies that she'll write an apology for it later.
Number 6 congratulates them sarcastically before Naomasa gives him a warning shot. Monika warns the detective to be careful, as the villain has an acceleration quirk that gives him extreme speed. Taking into account this information, Naomasa orders him to get on the ground slowly but is interrupted when the damaged mechs approach the shipping trucks and explode, destroying all evidence and giving the villain a chance to escape.
While Monika and the rest are recovering, they hear a commotion in the mall. To her horror, Monika recalls that there is still one Kanidoge's mech totally out of control and causing problems: the one she used. Monika fears that, like the other mechs, her mech could blows up in the middle of the crowd. Fat Gum gets the memo and takes Monika with him to handle the uncontrolled machine, while Naomasa, along with the rest of the police force, goes after the speedster villain.[5]
When they arrive at the place they see that, as they feared, the mech is rampaging the place, with a frightened Pop trapped in the machine. Fat Gum immediately begins to chase it, with Monika riding on his back, but unfortunately the hero is too slow to catch the mech, much to Monika's concern. The two are then blindsided by Koichi sliding past them at top speed towards the mech and clinging on its back, but he is unable to either free Pop or stop the machine.
Upon realizing that they will not be able to reach them in time, Monika asks Fat Gum to throw her to the mecha. Hero screeches to halt and tosses his ally down the corridor, as the woman extends her legs. She dives in and slices off the legs of the mech with her his Ultimate Move Rocket Crab Clip, preventing it from moving forward.
Without its legs, the mech starts spinning on the ground, causing Koichi to lose his grip and fall. Monika immediately orders him to leave as the mech is going to blow up, but he replies that Pop is still in it. Monika asks why on earth she's in the machine, and as they run to save her, Koichi explains that because she was taking so long to return from the bathroom, her manager asked Kazuho to replace her, which makes Monika feel guilty for Pop situation.
Monika quickly cuts Pop out of the device and tells everyone to evacuate as the device starts its sequence of self-destruction. They run as far as possible from the machine before it blows up, but Pop accidentally stumbles and Koichi launches to protect her, still too close to the mech.
Fortunately, Fatgum manages to arrive on time and body slams the mech just as it bursts to pieces, absorbing the shock of the explosion with his Quirk. He contains the explosive energy inside his body long enough for everyone to get away before releasing it in a massive burst at the cost of his protective fat. Although the whole place is wrecked, no one is injured.
With the situation mostly dealt with, Monika and Fat Gum run back to back up Naomasa. Monika’s manager asks her about what's going on but she tells him that he will explain it later, asking him and Koichi and Pop to just hang on a bit. However, when they reunite with the detective, they find that he and the other police officers were seriously injured, having been defeated by Number 6, who escaped with the evidence.
With no other option, Monika, Fat, and the injured Naomasa return to the mall to question Koichi and Kazuho, only to be told by her manager that he let them go because he felt guilty about what happened to them. This leaves Fat Gum and Monika frustrated, since the duo wasn't in any actual trouble and they were key witnesses to their investigation. Realizing his mistake, Monika’s manager hands Naomasa the business card they gave him to get in contact with them.[6]
