Synopsis#
History#
At a very young age, Flect Turn manifested a powerful Quirk that reflected anything that touched him. He struggled with this power throughout his life, as he could never be held by his parents, nor receive any form of love or affection since anyone who touched Flect would be hurt by his ability. He was also blinded by his Quirk as it reflected light from his eyes, and needed special eye masks attached to his sockets in order to see.[1] Throughout his childhood, his student years at university, and adulthood, his parents, friends, and even his lover all left him one by one and he was ostracized from society as a result of his Quirk. Flect tried by all means to control his powers, but unfortunately, Reflect is a Quirk that remains permanently active. Due to his inability to control it, Flect fell into deep despair and blamed his Quirk for it, but not even suicide was a possible option for him.
At some point in his life, Flect became aware of the Quirk Singularity Doomsday Theory, and due to the misery his own Quirk caused him, he completely internalized the idea that Quirks would become so powerful and uncontrollable that they would lead to the destruction of mankind. As a result of this theory, Flect Turn developed a great hatred towards Quirks, considering them diseases, and a fervent desire to eradicate them in order to save the human race.
This would lead him to found Humarise, a cult that fanatically believes in the Quirk Doomsday Theory, attracting not only Quirkless people but Quirk users as well. Over time, and despite its bad reputation for being involved in various anti-Quirk incidents, Humarise would gain power and influence, spreading to other countries and building branches in twenty-five cities around the world. Flect even gained followers in places of power, such as Otheon's police chief, which by proxy gave him full control of the Otheon police force.
It is at this time that Flect Turn began to forge his plan to destroy Quirks, and to achieve this, a powerful weapon was necessary. To obtain it, he ordered his followers to kidnap scientists and forced them to develop the Trigger Bomb, a device that releases a large cloud of gas composed of Ideotrigger that would cause all Quirk users who consumed it to lose control of their powers and die because of it, sparing only the Quirkless. Under the threat that their families would be killed if they did not cooperate, the kidnapped scientists did as they were told, and after several years, they built several Trigger Bombs.
Flect Turn's plan was to detonate a Trigger Bomb in a major city in order to gather the top Heroes around the world to the places where Humarise branches are located, then use the remaining Trigger Bombs to eradicate them all. Such a massacre would cause the world's society to collapse and fall into chaos, a time that would be used by Humarise to eradicate the remaining Quirk holders without opposition.
However, one of the kidnapped scientists, Eddie Soul, created a device containing a kill code to disable all the Trigger Bombs. Eddie gave the device to Alan Kay, another kidnapped scientist like him, who hid it in a secret compartment of a briefcase with a MicroSD where he reveals Flect Turn's secrets and how to activate the device. Eddie was executed when Flect Turn learned about the deactivation key, but Alan managed to remain hidden, disguising himself as a devoted follower of Humarise, until he had a chance to escape.[2]
Endeavor Agency Arc#
Flect Turn, under a fake name, proceeds to hire smugglers to travel all over the world in order to steal chemicals needed to create the vast amounts of Ideotrigger for his plan. However, he learns that the most recent shipment from Japan had been disrupted due to being apprehended by a group of heroes. This does not deter him though, declaring that it is fine since they already have the amount they need for the plan, telling his people to prepare for "the salvation of humanity".[3]
My Hero Academia: World Heroes' Mission#
When he has everything ready, Flect Turn sets his plan into motion. He summons his most loyal followers to Humarise's main hidden headquarters in Otheon, where he informs them that the time to eradicate the Quirk disease has come, and activates a Trigger Bomb that his acolytes had planted in a large city, killing several dozen people by enhancing their Quirks so much that they self-destruct. After the tragedy, he publicly announces Humarise's responsibility in the terrorist attack.
As he planned, the World Heroes Association organizes a worldwide operation with heroes from all over the world to storm all the locations of Humarise's branches, and although said raids ended in success, with dozens of cultists arrested, they didn't achieve satisfactory results, unable to find the Trigger Bombs or Flect Turn himself.
Even before the first attack, Flect had ordered the Trigger Bombs to be hidden elsewhere in the cities, and he had remained holed up in Humarise's main headquarters, whose location is unknown to the heroes. As Flect Turn expected, all the hero teams are ordered to stay in their assigned cities.
However, the only thorn in his master plan is that Alan Kay had taken the opportunity to escape, taking with him a briefcase with the deactivation key. Upon being notified of this, Flect ordered his subordinate, Beros, to hunt down Alan and retrieve the briefcase. After several days, Beros finds Alan and attacks him while he is driving a car, causing an accident.
By chance, Rody Soul, a street urchin carrying a briefcase of stolen jewelry, happened to be passing nearby at that very moment. Rody was running from Japanese hero Deku when the accident occurred, and during the confusion, he mistakenly takes Alan's briefcase while Beros takes his. When she realizes she retrieved the wrong case, Beros reports Flect Turn of her mistake. Despite this, he is calm and orders her to continue tracking, reminding her that she must make use of the curse that is her Quirk for their cause, which she accepts without hesitation.
He also takes the appropriate measures to retrieve Alan's briefcase, contacting the Humarise sympathizers who have infiltrated the Otheon police, including the Chief of Police himself, to recover the briefcase that Rody carries with him, using violence if necessary. This results in the police, and later Beros, trying to attack a fleeing Rody, rescued by Deku, before eventually escaping from their sight.
In order to locate them as soon as possible, the chief of police accuses Deku of mass murder, resulting in putting him on the Otheon most wanted list, and that Rody is his accomplice. The police chief has all the law enforcement officers in the country looking for them, informing Flect Turn of each clue and event.
Flect Turn is informed that Rody had contacted the police to return the briefcase, so sends Beros and Rogone to retrieve it and eliminate the witnesses, but Deku rescues him and they both manage to escape again with the briefcase. When the police chief notifies him of the failure of the ambush, Flect asks if he can mobilize the army, to which he replies that he does not have the necessary authority to do so, so Flect orders him to continue the search. All the while, Flect is intrigued regarding Rody's role in all of this.
Days later, the police chief calls Flect again to inform him of a new failure; Deku and Rody, with the help of Deku's classmates, managed to defeat Beros and Sidero and crossed the border into the neighboring country of Klayd, where the Otheon police have no jurisdiction. The police chief apologizes for this, but to his surprise, Flect Turn doesn't care about it, considering that they are too far away to stop him even if they find the truth about the briefcase, as he begins the final phase of his plan to save humanity.
Flect activates all the Trigger Bombs that Humarise hid in the twenty-five cities where the cult's branches used to be. He then makes a public statement on a global scale broadcasting this, revealing that the bombs will blow up in two hours, killing all of them infected with the disease of the Quirks. Flect Turn then proceeds to tell all the viewers, in order to make things fairer and give the heroes the chance to prevent the explosions, in which cities of the world the bombs are located.
Of course, this is nothing more than a charade on Flect Turn's part to ensure that the heroes don't leave the targeted cities even if they know it's a trap set to killing them all. With his statement, he not only gets the heroes to stay in the cities looking for the Trigger Bombs, but also have to spend their time helping and rescuing the terrified citizens, whose panic cause numerous further accidents. In addition, he has several Humarise members nearby to protect the Trigger Bombs to prevent the heroes from removing them once they are discovered.
During this time, Deku, Rody, Shoto Todoroki, and Katsuki Bakugo discover the deactivation key and the MicroSD in Alan's briefcase, as well as learning the truth behind Flect Turn's plans, and the location of Humarise's secret base where the master Trigger Bomb is located. Due to the heroes being unavailable, the four storm the base so they can get to the control system and disable the countdown.
Flect Turn notices them arriving in the airspace with twenty minutes left, ordering all of his subordinates to prepare his defenses. Deku, Katsuki, and Shoto storm the base to fight off the Humarise members attempting to stop them, while Rody secretly lands near the entrance, being captured shortly after by members of Humarise.
While Katsuki and Shoto deal with Humarise warriors the Serpenters and Leviathan, Deku manages to make it to the main hub, about to head towards the control system, until Flect Turn himself appears, sealing the room with them inside and telling him that he cannot allow his plan to bring humanity's salvation be stopped. Deku reproaches that all he does is kill innocent people using an unproven theory as justification, but Flect Turn dismisses his accusations, assuring him that what he is doing is the right thing to do and that he doesn't expect a "Quirk-infected" like him to understand.
Deku activates One For All and attacks him, but is violently deflected by Flect Turn's Quirk. Deku is shocked by this, and Flect tells him that he too is infected with the disease of Quirks. His Reflect brought him nothing but sadness and misery in his life, being a power impossible to control, acting as his proof that the Quirk Doomsday Theory is correct.
Deku tries different strategies to hit Flect Turn, but they all fail. Flect then activates the room's security systems and uses his Arachne support item to deflect an onslaught of laser shots directly to Deku, seriously injuring him. The villain turns on several screens to show him that there are only five minutes left before all the Trigger Bombs explode, as well as the heroes doing their best to defeat Humarise. Flect assures him that their efforts are in vain, but Deku gets up and claims him that he will stop him. The villain simply unleashes another onslaught of laser shots.
As Deku is barely able to stand, Rody suddenly appears to Deuku's surprise, and takes the deactivation key from him. He tells him that in exchange for giving it to Flect Turn he had promised that he would not activate the Trigger Bombs in Otheon. Deku tries to convince him they can still win, but Rody says it's fruitless and just wants to make sure his family is safe.
Flect Turn congratulates Rody for making the right decision, comparing him to his father, Eddie, when he decided to help him create the Trigger Bombs. Rody is upset by this statement, accusing Flect that he kidnapped him and threatened to kill his children to force him to create those weapons, something that Flect does not deny and even claims that it helped him to make the right decision, just as he is doing now.
Rody is about to hand over the deactivation key to Flect Turn, but then suddenly throws it into the air, which leaves the villain off guard for a moment, allowing Deku to attack him, while Rody's bird companion, Pino, reclaims the key with the two heading off to the control system. Enraged for being fooled, Flect repels Deku and reactivates the room's defense systems, managing to seriously injure Rody. Still, he continues to the control room after asking Deku to defeat the villain. Deku keeps Flect Turn at bay at the entrance to the control hub, assuring the villain that he won't let him stop Rody.
Flect Turn and Deku exchange several blows until the villain sees on one of the screens that Rody has lost consciousness from blood loss, before he had the chance to insert the key. Flect claims that there is no salvation for them, mocking that Rody has died for nothing, just like his father. Enraged, Deku assures him that he believes in his friend and in the heroes, and that none of them are going to give up.
Deku attacks Flect Turn more furiously than before, and although he is still repelled by his Quirk, the villain begins to budge with each blow, realizing a fact he thought was impossible: his Quirk actually has limits. This is further pointed out by Deku, who tells him that his ideology, that the real reason why his life was full of sadness, is based on self-deception born of his giving up and failure to try to control his Quirk. This causes Flect Turn to have a breakdown that drives him into an unthinking rage.
Flect continues to confront Deku, but now they are evenly matched, taking their Quirks to their maximum power in order to defeat their opponent. Deku eventually realizes that Flect Deku reflecting Quirk cannot sustain too much damage, and every time it reflects an attack, it gets weaker. Pushing beyond his limitations, Deku unleashes the power of Full Cowl - 100%, constantly attacking to overload Reflect until the Quirk can take no more and collapses, giving Deku the opportunity to defeat Flect Turn for good with his Ultimate Move: United States of World Smash.
Once he takes down Flect, Deku rushes to the control room to help Rody as the detonation countdown is about to end. Before losing consciousness, Flect Turn, now with the blue of his Reflect that surrounded his body having vanished, thinks that it is already too late to stop the activation of the Trigger Bombs. Fortunately for everyone, with the last of his strength, Rody managed to get Pino to insert the deactivation key into the mainframe, managing to defuse all the Trigger Bombs in the world with less than a second left for them to explode.
With Flect Turn’s plot foiled and imminent destruction averted, it was a decisive victory for the heroes worldwide, defeating all members of Humarise and safely removing the bombs. A large police force comes to the Humarise headquarters to rescue Deku and his teammates, taking them to a hospital for medical attention, while Flect Turn and all of his subordinates are arrested and sent to prison.[2]
