Eddie Soul was the father of Rody Soul and was an unwilling researcher for Humarise in My Hero Academia: World Heroes' Mission.
Appearance#
Eddie was a tall, adult man with short dark brown hair and gray eyes. He was seen wearing a white buttoned-up shirt underneath a dull blue overcoat.
Personality#
From what was seen and mentioned of him, Eddie was a loving father towards his children and was grateful towards his eldest son, Rody, for looking after his younger siblings, Roro and Lala. Despite having to be absent because of his work, he still cared for his children, cooking and providing for them. Eddie joined Humarise and helped create the Trigger Bombs, but only to protect his children from them after their lives were threatened.
However, Eddie was unwilling to allow Humarise to succeed with their plans on eradicating Quirk users worldwide, and secretly created a deactivation key for the Trigger Bombs. This proved that he was an extremely brave person, acting against his captors to save millions of innocent people, including his children, something that would unfortunately cost him his life.
In the end, Eddie Soul was a true hero who gave his life to save the world from Humarise, and would end up being painted as a criminal disgrace for his (unwilling) affiliation with the cult. However, his son Rody would eventually learn the truth about his father, bringing light to Eddie's story while also succeeding in his place and putting an end to Humarise's genocidal plans.
Synopsis#
Eddie Soul was a famous engineer who resided in Otheon and he would go on to marry and have three children: Rody, Roro and Lala. His wife died shortly after Lala's birth and due to being absent a lot of the time because of his job, Rody would look after his younger siblings. Regardless, Eddie was a loving father who was there to provide and care for his children.
One day, Eddie gave Rody a puzzle to solve. At first Rody had some difficulty, so Eddie gave him a small hand and did a bit of it for him, leading Rody to soon figure it out. Inside of the puzzle box was a necklace and Eddie revealed that it was a present for Rody to thank him for looking after Roro and Lala.
At some point however, Eddie was kidnapped by Humarise, a terrorist cult who saw Quirks as a disease and were devoted to eradicating all Quirk users. Under the threat that they would kill his children, Eddie reluctantly joined Humarise and pledged his allegiance to their leader, Flect Turn. Once word got out regarding Eddie's affiliation with Humarise, his children would go on to carry the resulting stigma. Rody, Roro and Lala were banished from school, parents forbade their children from playing with them in fear that they picked up bad things from their father, and one day, they returned home to find their house vandalized and smeared with insults directed at Eddie. With no choice, the Soul children were forced to move to the Shanty Town of Otheon and live in a dilapidated caravan, while Rody was forced to resort to illegal small jobs to provide for him and his siblings. This all caused Rody to develop an extreme resentment towards his father, even breaking the necklace he gave him, but he eventually stopped caring about Eddie and became devoted to looking after Roro and Lala.
Eddie and a number of other scientists that Humarise had kidnapped were then forced to develop and create the Trigger Bombs, explosive devices that would release deadly amounts of Ideo Trigger, forcing the Quirks of people to go berserk and cause major damage before eventually dying from the extreme drawbacks. Humarise planned to use these bombs as a part of their operation to eliminate all Quirk users. Knowing their plans of global genocide however, Eddie decided to plot against his captors and secretly created a deactivation key containing a kill code for all the Trigger Bombs.
Unfortunately, Eddie's treachery was eventually discovered and he was promptly executed as punishment. The deactivation key fell into the hands of his colleague, Alan Kay, who would go on to escape the cult in an effort to deliver the key to the right people and save the world from Humarise's plot. Flect Turn became aware of this however and sent members of his cult to kill Alan and retrieve the briefcase containing the key.
After a mix-up, the briefcase eventually fell into possession of Rody, accompanied by a hero student from Japan, Izuku Midoriya. They would later meet up with Izuku's classmates, Katsuki Bakugo and Shoto Todoroki. They found a hidden compartment in the briefcase and it contained a puzzle similar to the one Eddie made for Rody when he was a child. Because of this, Rody was able to crack it easily and inside they found the deactivation key and a microSD. After listening to the voice message left by Alan Kay, the four learned the truth about the only deactivation key for the Trigger Bombs and that Eddie created it at the cost of his life. Rody kept his emotions buried, but his Quirk and companion Pino fell into tears and revealed Rody's true feelings; he found out that his father never abandoned his children and that he never stopped caring about them.
Following Humarise's announcement that they would detonate the Trigger Bombs in 2 hours, Rody, Izuku, Katsuki and Shoto infiltrated Humarise's headquarters. Katsuki and Shoto get caught up, fending off the Serpenters twins and Leviathan respectively. Rody ends up getting captured, and Humarise propose the deal that if he turns over the deactivation key, they will not activate the Trigger Bomb in Otheon, sparing the lives of Roro and Lala. Rody seemingly accepts the deal and goes ahead to surrender the key to Flect Turn. During this, Flect states that Eddie did the same thing as he is: giving up to protect those he cared for, though Rody rightly points out that it was him who threatened to kill him and his siblings had Eddie refused.
This turned out to be a bluff however, as revealed by Pino, getting Flect to drop his guard and giving Izuku the chance to strike. While Rody crawls down to the deactivation center after being shot through the chest by a laser turret, he eventually passes out from blood loss. Through sheer strength and determination, Izuku ends up defeating Flect and arrives to see that Pino had entered the deactivation key and stopped the bombs from going off, with less than a second to spare, saving the world in the process.
After this, the kids were all taken to be treated for their injuries as the Humarise members were promptly arrested and imprisoned. As a result of all this, the Soul children were no longer outcasted from society and Roro and Lala were allowed to return to school, while Rody got a job as a bartender to provide for his siblings. Overall, Rody had succeeded in his father's place and helped save the world from Humarise.[1]
