Summary#

On a cloudy day, Present Mic and Mister Blaster, along with their Work-Study agency, the Buster Union, are on their way to deal with an emergency in the city. While flying atop drones, Mister Blaster boasts about the new pair of goggles he's wearing, with Present Mic once again calling his peer out for ripping him off again, especially since he couldn't stand seeing Shota wear them on his costume.

Mister Blaster brushes off his teammate's comment, and calls Shota a weakling that acts too cool to care about his shortcomings. Present Mic promptly defends his friend, saying that while it takes a while for Shota to show initiative, the student can dominate any obstacle he comes across when he eventually does. Mister Blaster asks why Shota doesn't go all out constantly, but the two are quickly cut off by the rest of the Buster Union reminding them to look alive and prepare for combat.

The group soon comes across their target wandering through the city, a giant toad-like Villain named Garvey. The leader of the Union, Bukkomi, tells everyone to unleash their Quirks at maximum output to attack Garvey, as they fire a flurry of powerful, long-ranged attacks. However, Garvey turns and opens his mouth in the direction of the onslaught. The Villain sucks in and swallows the projectiles, completely negating the attacks and causing the warts on his back to swell and crackle with electricity. Before they can process what's going on, Garvey's body explodes in a burst of energy, swallowing up the Buster Union in the process.

Elsewhere, Loud Cloud and Eraser Head are on patrol, with the former taking in the good weather and the latter noting that it will rain later. The pair are then spotted by a group of preschoolers and their teacher, with the children immediately rushing to Loud Cloud and asking if they could ride on his Cloud. One of the kids ends up slipping, though Eraser Head is there to catch her in time.

Once all the kids are properly seated, Loud Cloud begins to take off and fly them around on his Cloud, though his friend quickly stops him on account that they haven't checked for incoming traffic. Loud Cloud once again compliments Eraser Head for keeping an eye on the details, but the other boy says he has to be since his friend is so careless.

As they shuttle the kids around, Loud Cloud thinks Eraser Head would be great at a job where he has to look after kids, like childcare or teaching. The other student believes Loud Cloud is just projecting, as from firsthand experience he knows children aren't super fond of him.

Eventually, the two have to say goodbye to the children, and both receive plenty of compliments from them. Loud Cloud once again brings up his point to Eraser Head about him being fit for child rearing, with him thinking his teammate misses the big picture on issues such as these. The Hero-in-training says his friend constantly convinces himself about things that can or can't be done and believes that Eraser Head could do anything he sets his mind to.

Eventually, rain falls on the city, and before they can head back to the office to take shelter, Eraser Head receives a frantic call from Midnight. The girl tells him to evacuate the area immediately, as Garvey is close and wreaking havoc near them. After relaying a report on Garvey to His Purple Highness, Midnight reveals Garvey's Quirk: Stock, which allows him to absorb and store incoming attacks, and re-direct them by detaching and triggering the warts on his back.

Midnight wonders how the Villain is so powerful, with His Purple Highness deducing that Garvey absorbed the hyper offensive attacks fired off by the Buster Union, since they were the first group of Heroes to confront him. The man tells his trainee to call for help and evacuate the civilians, while he fights Garvey to stall for time.

Back on the ground, Loud Cloud and Eraser Head run back to the children and warn them and their teacher about the Villain. Oboro tells the woman to put all the children aboard his Cloud, and just as they're about to evacuate, Garvey appears right on top of them. His Purple Highness makes it just in time and tells the boys to get the group to safety while he covers them.

His Purple Highness then hops up the buildings and prepares hit Garvey with a diving kick, but the Villain quickly detaches one of his warts and fires a blast of Present Mic's Voice waves straight at the Hero. His Purple Highness is sent flying in the direction of the others, and crashes into the top of an auditorium. Eraser Head recognizes the Quirk, and not even a second after, Garvey detaches more of his warts and fires a barrage of Sensoji's Blasts at the Pro Hero. This sends him careening the ground and causes a large amount of rubble to fall on the preschool class, as Loud Cloud shields them with another Cloud.

Unfortunately, Loud Cloud is struck in the head and swallowed up by the rubble, and his goggles get flung to the ground, causing Eraser Head to panic and run for him. The boy then freezes, as he realizes that Garvey is once again right on top of them. With His Purple Highness and Loud Cloud out of commission, Eraser Head realizes he's the only one who can stop Garvey and save everyone.

After getting himself together, Eraser Head begins to formulate a plan to take down the humongous Villain. The student knows Garvey's attacks are too strong to deal with directly, as they're essentially one-hit knockouts based on the state of his teammates, and even a missed one can create large amounts of debris to inflict damage instead. On top of that, Eraser Head thinks the base strength of the attacks are being amplified during storage, meaning that Garvey might have some type of enhancement Quirk on top of Stock.

As he tries to piece together how to save the preschool class, Eraser Head hears Loud Cloud call out of him and spots his friend's gourd falling out of the rubble and on to the ground. From the object's speaker, Loud Cloud cheers his classmate on, as Eraser Head refocuses his attention on Garvey. Like his friend has always told him, Eraser Head reminds himself to not to stick to the fine details and focus on the big picture, and thanks to Erasure, he's able to level the playing field against any Villain he has to take on.

Quickly, Eraser Head maneuvers around Garvey and distracts the Villain with his Capturing Weapon, before lassoing one of the warts and hoisting himself on to the Villain's back. One of the warts then detaches, and Eraser Head uses hid Quirk on it before kicking the mass to the ground, though once Erasure cancels out, it fires a laser near the preschool class. The boy realizes he can't just constantly delay their firing, as they're causing way too much damage to the city even if they miss. Switching up his plan of attack, Eraser Head jumps into the air as the warts are targeting them, so the attacks can be directed into the air.

With Garvey's attention fully on Eraser Head, Eraser Head swings around and keeps stalling more warts with Erasure, before kicking them into an area where they can go off safely. The boy then gets in front of Garvey and kicks the large Villain in the eye, but his opponent smacks him away and back towards the ground. While he has a countermeasure for Garvey's attacks, Eraser Head is now left to level the field in terms of their drastic difference in size, though he struggles to come up with anything and begins to throw in the towel.

Just as he's about to give up, Loud Cloud's voice shouts once more that his friend can beat Garvey and reiterates that Eraser Head is the only one here who can protect everyone. The boy doesn't stop cheering for his friend, as Eraser Head is motivated to keep fighting and stands up. After using Erasure on Garvey, Eraser Head gets some distance from the Villain while drawing his attention away. The Quirk then deactivates as Garvey fires a bunch of lasers from his warts and tries to crush the boy with his body.

Thankfully, due to some quick planning and the ground breaking into chunks, Eraser Head manages to wrap up some of the rubble, which thanks to Garvey's attacks, was able to fly into the air and land a strong hit on the Villain's face. Garvey smacks Eraser Head away, but thanks to Loud Cloud's words, the boy stays focused and binds Garvey's arm and a giant piece of rubble, before smacking it directly on the Villain's head, disorienting him.

Not wanting to go down, Garvey bellows out and prepares to fire off all his orbs at once in an attempt to kill Eraser Head. The student swiftly uses Erasure on all of them and binds the growths together, and launches himself right on front of Garvey, who's roaring straight at him. Eraser Head then stuffs the bundle of warts right in Garvey's mouth before shutting his eyes, as the stored attacks go off inside the Villain's body, taking him down for good. Eraser Head then swings and slides back to the ground, as he yells to Oboro in the pouring rain that he actually beat the seemingly unstoppable Villain.

Eventually, emergency services arrive and tends to everyone while apprehending Garvey. The children and schoolteacher are unharmed, with the Heroes suffering from mostly minor injuries, though Bukkomi has a broken arm and His Purple Highness is being rushed to the hospital. The former commends Eraser Head for his work, especially considering he's still in training, though the boy says he couldn't have done it without his partner encouraging him through the entire ordeal.

Realizing he almost forgot about him, Eraser Head asks Midnight about Loud Cloud's condition and figures it can't be that bad since his friend was talking to him throughout the fight with Garvey. Midnight doesn't say a word and has her back turned to him while shivering, but this only makes Eraser Head assume the boy's injures required him to be sent to the hospital for treatment. After getting up, Eraser Head tells Present Mic to grab Loud Cloud's gourd speaker so they can give it to him in the hospital.

As he walks closer, Eraser Head notices the distraught expression on his other friend's face, who is struggling to lift Loud Cloud's speaker. He then sees Midnight crying quietly to herself, as Mister Blaster picks up the device and declares that the gourd is broken and unable to play any audio.

Eraser Head refuses to believe it considering he heard his friend talk to him, but Mister Blaster gives it to him straight: he believes his peer imagined the motivation Loud Cloud was giving him during the fight in order to push himself and unknowingly grafted his delusion to the speaker while doing so. The large student says it's common for someone to do that in a life-or-death situation, but Eraser Head still tries to deny it. He then turns to see some paramedics yell for a stretcher, as Eraser Head spots Loud Cloud's body underneath a tarp, as the blood staining it pours out of his head.

While the grim fate of his friend begins to set in, Mister Blaster commends the bewildered Eraser Head for solely taking on and beating a Villain that not even seasoned Pro Heroes could deal with and think he should find pride in that. Present Mic sadly envy's how to-the-point his Work-Study partner is, before turning his attention on Eraser Head. The only thing his classmate could do is weakly assure himself that he did indeed hear Loud Cloud's voice, as Present Mic tries to comfort him.

Midnight asks the two to take shelter from the rain so they won't get sick, but Present Mic declines, on the account that him and Eraser Head are feeling rainy today. As Eraser Head struggles to keep himself together, all of the memories he shared with Loud Cloud, as friends, classmates, and Work-Study partners, rush back to him as he grips the goggles his now-deceased peer loaned him.

Eventually, time passes on, as Shota, Hizashi, and the rest of their class moves into their third year at U.A. High School. Their homeroom teacher, the same as last year, asks about Shota to the rest of the staff. While his grades are still good, the other instructors notice he's phoning in his work if the young man knows he's passing, and he's even been found sleeping in class at times. While his combat training is also going well, the faculty is aware that something has changed greatly in him, and although he now has a proper goal in regard to how he wants to take his Hero career, they worry that going down that road might not be healthy for him.

Sometime later, Shota tells his teachers his after-graduation plans: he wants to start a solo independent agency. While the homeroom teacher thinks it's too soon since most students focus on getting experience with an established agency before going indie, Shota adamantly says he's going to make one to focus exclusively on fighting Villains and working in the underground, and feels he'll keep himself afloat on his own due to how much his close combat skills has improved. While he believes approaching his Hero career like this makes things simple and rational, his instructor questions if he really went to U.A. just to become a bounty hunter and feels like he should reconsider his path despite all he's been through last year. Shota doubles down and says his choice is the Hero he wants to be, even its the one his teacher doesn't recommend.

Soon, graduation comes, and as Hizashi tries to flag down Shota to take a celebratory picture with his classmates, his friend uses Erasure on him and shuts down his voice. Without saying a word, the fresh graduate takes off to the streets. For the next several years, Shota officially begins his career as the Erasure Hero: Eraser Head by training, working, and resting by his lonesome, a far cry of the trajectory that seemed to be set for him back during his second year.

Back in the present, in Naruhata, the rain finally clears up, which The Crawler notifies him off. With the weather normal again, Eraser Head heads out to check on the Hotta Brothers, with the Vigilante tagging along to see if any of their customers would want to adopt the kitten they rescued.

The men make it to Recycle Shop: Hoppers, and The Crawler is greeted by Octoid at the door, with Jiro close behind, which causes him to freak out. The once Next-Level Villain, now the soft-spoken Ikajiro Takobe, properly introduces himself to The Crawler, and apologizes for the all the trouble he caused him when they first met. The Crawler accepts his remorse but nervously asks what he's doing at Hoppers and why he is wearing normal clothes.

Ichiro, while dragging out a table with his brother, tells The Crawler that Ikajiro has been staying with them since the incident, and both he and Kirihito have been living out of a tent in the location of their destroyed warehouse. Kirihito then walks out and asks the brothers when their new shop is opening up, with Ichiro explaining to The Crawler that the former Next-Level Villains got an idea to open a cafe with the space left by the brothers' old warehouse, both as a business venture and to give the two a permanent, accessible home.

As The Crawler gets thrilled by the idea, Ikajiro nervously asks the Vigilante about the kitten, wanting to hold them. While he gushes at the animal, after The Crawler tells him he's a stray, Ikajiro immediately adopts him, through the brothers ask the large man if he's going to bring a wild animal into a cafe. Kirihito chimes in and says they could enhance their idea and make a cat cafe, as they can attract plenty of money and girls by doing so. As the group continues their pitch, Eraser Head looks at the five men silently, as he once again thinks back to his second year of high school.

On a late evening atop the roof of the school, Shota, Hizashi, Oboro, and Nemuri were discussing what they want for their agency building. Oboro wants an open roof to eat their lunch on, and Hizashi wants a soundproof studio. Oboro then asks Shota what he wishes for, and the student simply says a cat tower. The other boys instantly figure out its for Sushi, with Shota clarifying they need a space for the cat to live since Nemuri said she can't take care of the animal permanently.

Shota runs it by the girl, who begins blushing while thinking about Sushi playing with the cat tower. As he watches Oboro and Hizashi laugh at Nemuri's outburst, Shota remembers that he, Oboro, and Hizashi will always cover for each other, and that the three of them together can do anything and save everyone. Though for now, Shota wants to start with saving with a single cat once they go off to be Heroes.

Ichiro then snaps Eraser Head out of his daydreaming and asks the Hero to give his opinions on the cafe layout. The brothers say they're planning a special spot for him to drink his coffee in the back and jokingly say that someone scary like him can't be visible to the rest of the customers. Kirihito thinks making Eraser Head's presence known might be a good for security, as Ikajiro asks the Hero to visit his new pet whenever he drops by.

Eraser Head then looks up at the clear sky, openly saying that he hasn't noticed the sun coming back out. The brothers wonder if the Hero is doing okay, but Eraser Head begins to leave after getting a notification on his phone, being another picture of Sushi sent by Midnight. Before he takes off, Eraser Head smiles at the group, telling them that the cat cafe is a good plan and promising to see the kitten whenever he gets a chance.

Anime & Manga Differences#

  • In the Buster Union's first scene, the dialogue from the official members explicitly comes from Bukkomi in the anime, implying that he was the team's captain at the time.
  • In the anime, the Buster Union approaches Garvey from the side, while they do so from above in the manga.
  • The anime shows Garvey exploding after absorbing the attacks from the Buster Union.
  • Garvey's re-directed attacks are shown to be much more destructive in the anime, such as during his assault on His Purple Highness, and some of the lasers he fires being strong enough to slice buildings in two.
  • The anime significantly extends Eraser Head's fight with Garvey.
  • When Shota recalls moments spent with Oboro while mourning his death, the scenes are taken from Chapters 254 and 255 from the main series instead of scenes from Vigilantes.
  • The anime cuts some of the scenes showing Shota throughout his third year in high school, which include another fight with Sensoji, and taking a nap when his classmates are discussing the Sports Festival.
  • The anime cuts the scene of Shota asking the teachers to use the gym for solo training.
  • In the anime, all the graduating students are in their uniforms instead of their Hero costumes.
  • In the manga, the other students suggest taking a class photo before Hizashi tries to flag down Shota to join them.
  • Shota also isn't initially seen at the graduation before he uses Erasure on Hizashi in the manga. In the anime, he's seen silently walking through the crowd before Hizashi calls to him, and the only part of his costume on him is the goggles.
  • In the manga, the Hotta Brothers and Kirihito greet Eraser Head when he reaches the shop.
  • When Ichiro brings up the cafe, the anime cuts the dialogue of him explaining where the funding for it came from, and Ikajiro bringing up that he has earned a chef's license. It also excludes him talking about the bathroom doors with Kirihito.
  • Due to the story arc now taking place before the Sky Egg Arc in the anime, Eraser Head doesn't tell the group not to factor him into their plans and that he will be leaving town soon, which implied he would be becoming a teacher at U.A.
