Buster Union & Purple Revolution vs. Garvey was a battle between Buster Union and Team Purple Revolution against the Villain Garvey.
Prologue#
After spending a few days at U.A. High School, to show what they have learned during the first stage of the Hero Work-Studies, the students return with the Heroes with whom they are interning at: Shota Aizawa, Oboro Shirakumo, and Nemuri Kayama return along with the hero His Purple Highness to Team Purple Revolution, while Hizashi Yamada and Sensoji returns with the hero team Buster Union.
A week later, on a cloudy day, the Team Purple Revolution is patrolling the streets of Tasomiya Ward in two groups: one formed by Shota and Oboro, and the other by Nemuri and His Purple Highness. During the patrol, Shota and Oboro are then spotted by a group of preschoolers and their teacher, and they take care of the kids for a while. Oboro compliments Shota's skill at dealing with kids, and tells him he would do well as a teacher, but he replies that what he says is nonsense.
Meanwhile, not far from there, a great threat had appeared in the city. Garvey, a giant toad-like villain began to wreak havoc in the streets and sowing panic in the Tasomiya district, causing extreme destruction in his wake. The Buster Union team, including Hizashi and Sensoji, are warned of Garvey's attack and quickly arrive in the city to stop him.[1]
What no one knows at this time is that this attack was organized by Kyudai Garaki and All For One, with the goal of taking over Shota's Erasure Quirk.[2]
Battle#
Riding on drones, the Buster Union team arrive to where Garvey is, and after seeing his large size and the destruction he caused, the leader of the Union, Bukkomi, orders the rest of the members to dispose of him by blasting him with their Quirks all at once, unleashing the full power of their Quirks.
To the heroes surprise, before their massive combined attacks impacted Garvey, the animal opens his mouth and swallows the projectiles, including Hizashi's shout, completely negating the attacks and causing to numerous lumps to grow on his back, crackling with energy. Before the Buster Union can process what's going on, Garvey detaches one of the bulges on his back and releases a powerful wave of energy that sweeps a large area of the neighborhood, defeating the entire hero team.
His Purple Highness and Nemuri witness the defeat of the Buster Union as they were nearby. The girl tells Shota to evacuate the area immediately, as Garvey is close and wreaking havoc near them. Nemuri also uses the Hero Network to obtain information about Garvey and reports her boss about the giant’s criminal record and how his Stock Quirk works, showing concern because the data does not indicate that Garvey has such destruction capacity as the one he is demonstrating at the time.
His Purple Highness deduces that Garvey absorbed the hyper offensive attacks fired off by the Buster Union, since they were the first group of Heroes to confront him. The man tells his trainee to call for backup and help evacuate the area while he faces the giant toad to buy time.
Nemuri calls Shota to warn him and Oboro about the threat Garvey poses. The two students quickly run back to the children and warn them and their teacher about the Villain. Oboro tells the woman to put all the children aboard his Cloud, but just as they're about to evacuate, Garvey arrives to their position much sooner than they would have expected. His Purple Highness appears and orders the boys to put the children safe while he covers them.
His Purple Highness hops up the buildings and prepares hit Garvey with a diving kick, but the villain detaches another of his warts and releases the stored attack within it, sending the hero in the direction of the others. His Purple Highness crashes into the top of an auditorium near Shota and Oboro, damaging the building. Shota is shocked to realize that the beast has used Hizashi's Voice attack to defeat the hero.
Without giving the hero a chance to recover, Garvey attacks him again, detaching two more warts and fires two beams of energy at the Pro Hero, that Shota quickly identifies as Sensoji's Blast Quirk. Garvey's attack destroys part of the building, leaving the hero out of action, and causing a large amount of rubble to fall on the preschool class who are still there, scared because of the massive villain. Oboro creates a huge Cloud cushion to shield the kids, protecting them from the falling building.
His quick action saves the kid’s lives, but in doing so, Oboro left himself defenseless and a rubble hits him in the head, strong enough to enough to cause blood splatter and knock his goggles off and shatter them. Before Shota can help him, Oboro ends up completely crushed by the rumble. Shota screams for Oboro with no response, causing the kids to cry.
Shota begins to despair over the situation: His Purple Highness is unconscious and injured over a pile of debris, and his friend has been completely buried under the rubble, leaving only him as the only person between Garvey and the frightened school kids, but he has just witnessed how dangerous and unpredictable this massive amphibian and his Quirk are. Shota knows that to save the children he has to defeat Garvey, but he is completely alone, and facing an enemy like that, any attempt to stop him would only mean being crushed by the villain.
As he tries to piece together how to save the preschool class, Oboro's gourd-speaker falls close to Shota, and from the device comes the voice of Oboro, cheering his classmate on and assuring him that he can do it. Thanks to these words, Shota regains his confidence and rushes towards Garvey to face him, remembering that his Quirk Erasure can force villains to fight on equal terms.[1]
Shota attracts the villain's attention by throwing a piece of debris at him with his capturing weapon. Garvey tries to catch him with one of his huge hands but Shota avoids him before lassoing one of the warts and hoisting himself on to the Villain's back. Garvey detaches another lump, however he can’t release the power it contains because Shota uses his Erasure to temporarily cancel his Stock Quirk and kicks the lump away from him to prevent Garvey from using it.
However, when the Erasure effect ceases, the bulge fires releases the powerful beam it contained, causing serious damage in the area and endangering the preschool class. Shota realizes that he is acting rashly, without thinking about the right strategies, and putting the children in danger.
Garvey uses another wart to fire another beam at Shota, who doesn't have time to cancel it with his erasure and dodges it by dropping on the villains back, seeing the beam damage another building. Shota realizes he can't just constantly delay their firing, as it would destroy the city more further, even if they miss. Shota quickly develops new stratagems to deal with Garvey and prevents him from causing more destruction, by forcing him to attack upward, into the sky.
The villain detaches three bumps, and unable to cancel the Quirk, Shota places himself on Garvey and dodges the three beams he releases. Then, the creature detaches another lump, and this time Shota has the opportunity to use his Quirk, He quickly jumps towards it and kicks the non-activated lump straight up so it detonate at safe height. Shota lassos another warts and swings to kick the Garvey in the right eye, but the monster retaliates and violently smacks him away and back towards the ground.
Recovering from the blow, Shota understands that although he has plans to deal with Garvey's lumps, he still doesn't have any plan to deal with the enormous difference in size and strength between them. Just as he's about to give up, he suddenly hears Oboro again cheering for him through the speaker, assuring him that he is stronger than he thinks and he will be able to defeat the foe. Reinforced by the encouragements of his friend, Shota stands up while screaming in rage, activating his Erasure on the villain once again.
Garvey tries to crush him with a swipe, but Shota dodges and starts running around the villain, dodging Garvey's attacks. Then he pounces on Garvey and deliver him a strong elbow on his left eye. In a reaction of pain, Garvey swats the student away from him with a swipe of his arm, but Shota, while still hearing Oboro’s cheers, stays focused and uses his Capturing Weapon to ensnare Garvey's arm and a giant piece of rubble, before smacking it directly on the Villain's head, disorienting him.
Wounded by Shota's blows, Garvey is completely out of his wits and decides to end the fight once and for all. He detaches all the lumps on his back, in a desperate attempt to kill Shota. However, what he get is to provide Shota the key to his defeat.
When the villain is about to release all the Quirks he had stored at once, Shota uses his Erasure on him again, canceling his Stock Quirk and preventing him from launching his attack. Then, Shota uses his Capture Weapon to binds the growths and gather them up, launching himself right on front of Garvey, who's roaring straight at him.
Without wasting time, Shota introduces all the bundles right in Garvey's mouth before shutting his eyes to deactivate his Erasure. With Shota's Quirk ceasing to take effect, the stored attacks go off inside the Villain's body, causing him serious damage and taking him down for good.
Shota also falls to the ground, completely exhausted but ecstatic at having beaten the seemingly unstoppable monster. He shouts to Oboro in the pouring rain that he did it, he defeated a villain by himself with his own abilities and his Quirk.[3]
Aftermath#
With Garvey defeated, the affected authorities to agree on the area and apprehended the toad villain, whose size is now much smaller than it was initially. The children and schoolteacher are unharmed, with the Heroes suffering from mostly minor injuries, though Bukkomi has a broken arm and His Purple Highness is being rushed to the hospital due to the severity of their injuries.
Bukkomi commends Shota for his work, especially considering he's still in training, though the boy says it was thanks to his friend Oboro cheered him on during the entire fight through his speaker. Shota asks Nemuri about Oboro's condition and figures it can't be that bad since his friend was talking to him throughout the fight with Garvey. Nemuri doesn't say a word and has her back turned to him while shivering, which makes Shota think that Oboro has been taken to the hospital.
Shota ask Hizashi to grab Loud Cloud's gourd speaker so they can give it to him in the hospital, but as he gets closer, he notices the distraught expression on his other friend's face, as he struggles to lift Loud Cloud's speaker. He then sees Nemuri crying quietly to herself, as Sensoji picks up the device and declares that the gourd is broken and unable to play any audio.
Shota assures he heard his friend's voice, but Sensoji explains him that’s not possible, and most likely, he was giving himself a pep talk and, due being in a desperate situation, he imagined it was Oboro who encouraged him, with his voice coming from the speaker. The large student says it's common for someone to do that in a life-or-death situation, but Shota brushes Sensoji comment off, refusing to believe his words and looks over the fallen rubble where Oboro was knocked out, only to find out the terrible truth.
He see two paramedics yell for a stretcher, as he spots his friend's body underneath a tarp, as the blood staining it pours out of his head. Oboro Shirakumo is dead.
While the grim fate of his friend begins to set in, the body is removed and the rain intensifies. Sensoji continues his speech but Hizashi asks him to ease up, but Sensoji tells Shota that he must be proud, because he has defeated a villain completely alone, without anyone's help. Hizashi ends up telling Sensoji that he envies his simple mind for not realizing the point, before turning his attention on Shota. The only thing his classmate could do is weakly assure himself that he did indeed hear Oboro's voice, as Hizashi tries to comfort him.
After several minutes Nemuri tells Shota and Hizashi to take shelter from the rain so they won't get sick. Hizashi thanks her for worrying about them but replies the rain fits the mood they're in. While contemplating the area where Oboro died, Shota remembers all the moments he spent with him as he grips the goggles his now-deceased peer loaned him, and with Hizashi by his side, they mourn the loss of their friend.[3]
Unbeknownst to his friends, Oboro's corpse would later be stolen by All For One before it is cremated, and with the help of Kyudai Garaki, remodels the corpse into a Nomu known as Kurogiri.[2]
