Dai is a middle school student who desires to become a Pro Hero.
Appearance#
Dai is a boy with soft features, and squarish, dark gray eyes. His black and gray-spotted hair is styled into a bowl cut.
In the eight years following the Final War, Dai's hair becomes teal grey and the spots have become white and larger. They now form a distinct ring of eight instead of several haphazard ones of different sizes. His middle school uniform consists of beige slacks and an orange-brown blazer, with a white dress shirt and a green tie. He also wears white loafers (gray in the anime).
Personality#
Dai greatly admires Heroes, such as All Might, Endeavor, Best Jeanist, Deku, Dynamight, and Shoto, and aspires to be like them, despite his weak Quirk. He appears to be quite timid, similar to Izuku while he was in middle school. Like Izuku, he is caring and ready to help others, acting first without thinking when he sees someone in trouble.
Synopsis#
Paranormal Liberation War Arc#
As a young child, Dai was walking with his mother on his way to his first day of first grade. As his mother asked if he was ready to his best, the two of them passed by All Might's statue in Kamino. Looking up at the statue and clenching onto his Endeavor doll, the boy smiles and says yes. [1]
Epilogue Arc#
Eight years later, Dai would enter his third year of middle school as his teacher asks him and the other students to fill out and turn in their career goal forms by next week. As the other students talk about the various different paths they each want to take, one student that sits right next to Dai is talking about wanting to apply to U.A.'s Hero Course. That same student peers over to see Dai has written the same thing, much to his embarrassment. His desk neighbor teases that it would be really hard for someone with a Quirk like his, and with villain emergencies on the decline and the number of Pros getting cut back, only those with strong Quirks will be able to become a Hero.
After class, Dai takes a walk and thinks about how so much has changed since he was a kid. Back then, everyone talked about how they wanted to be a Hero just like All Might, Endeavor, Best Jeanist, Deku, Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight and Shoto, but now it seems like he's the only one who hasn't grown up. Feeling anxious, he walks up to the All Might statue as he worries about what he should do.
As he's looking at the statue, two boys are running past him to play and one of them trips and nearly falls. Without thinking, Dai runs to catch the child with his Saucer Quirk, but trips himself before he can help. Thankfully, a man in a suit is also able to run and catch the child as the two boys rush off to continue playing. The man walks up to Dai and asks if he's okay, to which the middle schooler immediately recognizes him as Deku, and starts geeking out at meeting one of his idols.
As the day fades into the afternoon, he tells Izuku how he's getting ready for high school, and with how fast times are changing he can't keep up anymore with his unimpressive Quirk. That's why he's here at the All Might statue, to ask if he can become a Hero too. Being reminded of that fateful day where he first met All Might, Izuku begins muttering about the potential uses of his Quirk, noting that he could probably use his saucers in a similar way to Minoru. Seeing this freaks Dai out, yet he also finds it encouraging as well.
Putting his hand on Dai's shoulder, Izuku assures the young man that it will be okay, as he just made the effort to reach out and save someone else. He tells him that he can be a Hero, and tells him to do his best, which leaves the young man delighted and thankful.[2]
Abilities#
Quirk#
Unnamed Saucer Quirk: Dai's Quirk allows him to throw white saucer-like objects from his hair. It's possible for him to change their size, combine them, and stack them for boosted strength. The Quirk seems to be considered weak, as Dai's classmate said it would be hard to get into the hero course with his Quirk.[2]
