Bloodcurdle was the Quirk used by Chizome Akaguro, until it was stolen from him by All For One.[1]
Description#
Bloodcurdle allows the user to temporarily paralyze an opponent by ingesting their blood samples.[2] The Quirk also grants the user an extraordinarily long tongue tainted with numerous small papillae.[3]
The user only requires their tongue to make contact with a small amount of a person's blood, regardless of where and how it's found (for example, bloodstains left on a blade after stabbing the target or coagulated bloodstains on a curative). Once the user gains access to their target's blood, they can activate Bloodcurdle and immobilize their target for a limited period, leaving them vulnerable to a finishing move.
Weaknesses#
The time a victim remains paralyzed depends on their blood type. In Chizome's case, blood type B represents the longest time, then decreases to AB, A, and O for the shortest time. Enemy blood types can vary widely, and Chizome cannot identify them, meaning the timing of each paralysis can become unpredictable. Regardless, the maximum amount of time anyone can stay paralyzed is 8 minutes.[4]
Quirks that can expel blood or change a person's blood type, such as All For One's Bloodlet and Antigen Swap, can free someone from Bloodcurdle's paralyzing effects.[1]
Usage#
Chizome Akaguro#
The Hero Killer made a name for himself by infamously paralyzing Pro Heroes by collecting their blood from the weapons he skewered them with. Stain targeted Heroes one-on-one, ambushing them in dark and narrow alleys to score first blood without attracting attention, allowing him to activate his power unimpeded.
His arsenal includes swords and knives, stained with blood after slicing through their target. Stain then activates his Quirk by licking the blood directly from the blade. As a competent Villain, Stain's battle prowess allows him to overwhelm his targets in armed combat and compensate for his Quirk's restrictive activation cost.
Back in his Vigilante days, Stendhal would collect blood samples, used curatives discarded by criminals to acquire their sanguine, and used those as an easy way to instantly paralyze said criminals through Bloodcurdle.
All For One#
During the Final War, All For One killed Stain and stole his Bloodcurdle Quirk. He used this to immobilize All Might after the former Symbol of Peace had exhausted all of his last tricks with the Armored All Might to defeat him. With him paralyzed and vulnerable, All For One used this opportunity to try and execute him in front of everyone, though he was saved by the timely arrival of Dynamight.[3]
