Deform[1] is the Quirk used by The Gifted.
Description#
Deform allows its user to deform and manipulate whatever they touch. They can reshape and control their surroundings at will, as well as mold pre-existing materials into new objects entirely.[2]
Weaknesses#
While this Quirk has a large usage capacity, big enough that The Gifted had previously never reached it, Deform has a limit in how much it can be used in a short time. Once this limit is reached, the Quirk temporarily goes out of control, rapidly and wildly deforming everything around the user, then becomes entirely unusable for an unknown amount of time.[3]
Usage#
The Gifted demonstrates both large-scale and fine control over his Quirk. He uses it primarily to create robotic minions to do his bidding, such as carrying out assaults on former Villains, as well as drones so he can monitor their actions from a safe distance. He can even create robots that can freely multiply themselves, giving him an army of servants that can fight on his behalf.
The Gifted's hideout is an abandoned industrial factory, giving Deform an abudance of material to reshape and control at will. This Quirk's power allowed The Gifted to overwhelm Izuku Midoriya, Katsuki Bakugo, and Shoto Todoroki, three of U.A. High School's most powerful Heroes in training, to the point where they required backup from the rest of Class 1-A and multiple Pro Heroes to finally defeat him.
Deform was responsible for The Gifted's overinflated ego, believing that because of his ability, he had no need to rely on human allies to the point where he had never asked someone for help. Although very powerful, he overestimated his Quirk's abilities and pushing it past its limit caused his very creations to turn on him.
Trivia#
- This Quirk is similar to Alchemy, which also allows its user to manipulate and reconstruct objects with high complexity through direct contact. However, Alchemy doesn't have a time limit for how long it can be used, and it breaks down its catalyst into raw energy before modifying it.
- Alchemy was put into a similar out-of-control state by another rogue Quirk, Overmodification, making it resemble Deform when affected by its drawbacks.
